TY Chips (and NW) for all the threads yesterday evening!! Was able to view them quite late last night. Just wanted to say hi and, as noted hours ago ….
As respectful, factual & compassionate as the #DemDebate was it also convinced me that You need to be 45th US Pres, @VP.
cc @DrBiden @POTUS
Could not have said it any better Chips. :) Listening to the progressive talk shows this morning, and hearing callers, most seem very pleased and proud to be a Democrat.
Yes, seriously! When we turned 16, we got real jobs - babysitting. My dad worked with a guy who’s daughter was married to a Motown songwriter. I began babysitting for them, then they referred me to Smokey, then on to Duke. I made BIG money in those days :D:D
Happy Wednesday! Glad to see that gun violence prevention came up in a sane way at the Democratic Debate. There is a cultural shift on this topic which should result in a few more gun sense measures being considered in Congress. Thanks to President Obama for his leadership!
Did anyone hear a caller on Stephanie Miller’s show? He was part of CNN’s focus group last night. 20 of them. He said he is a Bernie supporter and 94% of them voted that Bernie “won” the debate. Next question was, regardless of who you support, who do you think will win the primary and 100% of them said Hillary…….no doubt at all. Just passing along…………..gotta go grocery shopping.
I must say Hillary said all the right things last night, I could see myself voting for her. I liked the way she gave President Obama the respect he deserved and earned.
Got an email from Marty Nesbitt about the Obama Foundation plans. Fascinating!
We’re just starting to explore the possibilities for how the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago will take shape, and I’m very excited.
Take a look at the guiding principles we’ve developed to help shape our vision for the Center.
Environmental stewardship is a big part of that vision. Our team has been exploring innovative ways to build sustainably, and one of them is biomimicry: the practice of imitating nature in man-made objects.
An outstanding example is the Bullitt Center in Seattle. It was intentionally designed to mimic the Douglas fir forest that previously occupied the land upon which it stands. Like the forest, it uses no more water than it can collect from natural rainfall, and no more energy than it can harvest from the sun and wind.
Above: the Bullitt Center mimics natural processes to minimize its environmental impact.
We have a rare opportunity to create something completely new. Our vision is for the Obama Center to be a change agent, and encourage others to live harmoniously with the natural world and one another — in the South Side of Chicago, our beloved nation and the entire world.
Rehashing this from previous thread: Webb mentioned it during the debate, but it made him look whiny.
We counted so you didn't have to: #DemDebate by the numbers http://t.co/CQhHVmqIFo pic.twitter.com/uEfvAcTkYb
— CNN (@CNN) October 14, 2025
I noticed the disparity too (and the fact that more questions were directly posed to Sec Clinton Sen and Sanders but,
1) A skilled debater has to figure how to figure how to get in the conversation even when the cards are stacked for the opposition
2) Whenever Webb and Chafee spoke, they both proved why they should NOT be in the conversation. Both were so out of their league and clearly not Presidential material.
Hello TOD.
Congrats Dudette on your solid Gold and congrats to all the Au :star: winners since yesterday. I can’t begin to catch up.
Thanks Chips, NW, the rest of the bts, TOD Twitter Brigade, Commentators and Lurkers.
I enjoyed the Dem Debates for different reasons.
Funny, the ONLY life time Dem was O’Malley….all the other 4 Candidates were a GOPer earlier in their lives…..proving, it is not where, how, when, why one became a Dem. It is Policy that matters ;)
I thought it would be a good night for Democrats and I believe it was. The pundits thought there was no interest in the Democratic race but that proved not to be true last night.
Thank you, Chips.
Danny OK, better now?
I hope so.
The Neena Gmail Account was established when I was unable to log in here for a week due to Chrome mishap. I still use it occasionally ;)
Thanks again for freeing Moi
He’s good today Nena, thank you! When his leg (or shoulder, as I know now) gets sore it’s usually in the evening after all his adventures, so I’ll be monitoring closely.
So glad to hear Dany is doing better. Last night, Kasper’s knee came out of the socket and he was holding the leg straight out. He has terrible knees and will need surgery eventually. I didn’t know if I could give him a pain pill, because of the stone-dissolving food. We held him and kept him quiet and he got it back in the socket today. If it isn’t one thing, it’s another. I took advantage of his being quiet and trimmed and brushed the hell out of him. He looks so pretty!
Aw, Chips, if you could have seen his eyes. If he had yelped even once, damn the special stone-dissolving food, he would have gotten a painkiller. You have no idea what a brave guy he is. How we worked together when his back half was ripped off by the pit bull. He is an amazing spirit. And he doesn’t need additional difficulties right now.
I’ll admit, I’m one hell of a doggie nurse. If you ever would have told me I’d be able to do the things I’ve done, I would have said you were batshit crazy. They have taught me more about myself than I ever imagined.
Soooooooo glad to hear that Danny is doing better. Kisses from Auntie 57.
The Modern Struggle for Voting Rights in America
By Ari Berman
————————————
In this groundbreaking narrative history, Ari Berman charts both the transformation of American democracy under the VRA and the counterrevolution that has sought to limit voting rights, from 1965 to the present day. The act enfranchised millions of Americans and is widely regarded as the crowning achievement of the civil rights movement. And yet, fifty years later, we are still fighting heated battles over race, representation, and political power, with lawmakers devising new strategies to keep minorities out of the voting booth and with the Supreme Court declaring a key part of the Voting Rights Act unconstitutional.
Berman brings the struggle over voting rights to life through meticulous archival research, in-depth interviews with major figures in the debate, and incisive on-the-ground reporting. In vivid prose, he takes the reader from the demonstrations of the civil rights era to the halls of Congress to the chambers of the Supreme Court. At this important moment in history, Give Us the Ballot provides new insight into one of the most vital political and civil rights issues of our time.
The best thing I liked about the debate (whatever small portion I watched) was that none of the dems allowed cooper to push his corporate media bs (the emails!!!! and sanders angry retort was the bullet that tore though the guts of bw media and the rethugs conspiracy) and went on the offensive. That is the kind of fightback they need to do at every turn, not just at debates. Browbeat these corrupt fuckers in every interview.
Final numbers are in.
CNN Dem debates registered at 16.3M with nearly 1M live streaming.
The most in Dem Primary Debates by any Network.
Smart. Issues.
Now DNC can Dems have a few more debates?
Let Freedom RING!
I agree with you wholeheartedly.
I will prefer that they didn’t spread the debates.
They should have events, symposiums, forums, etc to help stamp out the GOPer News Media 24/7 talking points propaganda.
I’m of the same vain. I watched all those debates 7/8 years ago and it got to be ridiculous. Eventually they are asking the same questions and getting the same answers over and over again. Now I do think that they should have allowed at least a couple of outside groups to have debates and 6 is probably too few but I sure don’t want to see 20 of these things again.
another thing I liked about sanders, other than shutting down the but teh emails!!! bs, was how he was sticking it to the corporate media. Hillary could learn a thing or two about it instead of constantly trying to avoid them or go defensive.
To be honest, his truly horrible Twitter supporters had me loathing the fella before last night, but apart from his shouty beginning, when he appeared not to know he had a microphone and came over as the angriest man on planet earth, I thought he wasn’t bad. Great answer on the emails, and he came over as genuine, but all that revolution talk sounded like me when I was 16 (seven years ago). And hopelessly weak on guns, he really has to do better than ‘well, I represent a rural state so I have to do what the gun folk there want me to do’.
Oh, I am sure he wouldn’t survive a new yawk minute outside of small NE blue states but at least he brings some variety into the debate. He reminds of that lil feller whasshisname who used to jump up and down about revolution in 2008.
That he wasn’t ready for the gun question was troubling. He still doesn’t seem to understand that he must appeal to a wider electorate. He believes he’s right, and assumes everyone will follow. He didn’t seem to be prepared for the debate, or that he should have spent time preparing. I see no humility in him. I didn’t like or dislike him any more than I did yesterday morning.
I believe in 95% of his ideas. He is a truly great progressive. But I do not think he has the right temperament to run a diverse nation. And his avoidance of the CiC question was downright terrifying.
There were things that PBO could overcome because of his expansiveness and his heart. Bernie has no patience for those who do not see things his way.
Couldn’t believe how poor he was answering the gun question, astonishing - he surely knew it would be a major issue? And he was awful on Putin and foreign policy generally, like he had never given it a thought. I saw some people commenting last night about him preferring to talk off the cuff, rather than actually preparing remarks, and it showed - he was all over the place at times, and looked seriously flustered. He calmed down a little later, I think the emails exchange with Hillary actually helped relax him, but he really did strike me as a one trick pony: economic equality and nothing else. Not that economic equality isn’t a hugely important issue, but crikey Bernie, you have to broaden your horizons if you want to be President.
That said, I did warm to him a little bit, I do think his heart is in the right place, but he’s not remotely presidential material - certainly not with that temperament.
You nailed it, Chips. And even though he talks incessantly about income inequality, what exactly is he going to do about it? There is a difference between saying we need one trillion dollars in infrastructure spending, it’s another to address how to get such a package into reality. What scares me is that he really thinks if he bellows loud enough (or if PBO had bellowed loud enough) he’ll get his way. I have said from Day One that doing the opposite doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get an opposite result. If PBO had bellowed in 2009, would it have gotten us a public option and a trillion-dollar stimulus package? When Bernie says PBO is naive, methinks it’s Bernie who is naive.
To not prepare for debates because you like to talk off-the-cuff: the height of arrogance. It means he has surrounded himself with sycophants and does not listen to hard, experienced advice.
Well said, PF! Since the 1960s, Blacks have been the most loyal voters for the Democratic Party. Beginning with JFK, the black vote for Democratic presidential candidates (both the winners and losers) has ranged from 80 to 95 percent. No other group in the so called Democratic coalition can match this loyalty. Yet the most important issue in the black community, which concerns life and death, is demeaned and relegated to a “gotcha question.”

LIVE and Already in Progress…….the WH Presser with the Hon Josh “The Voice” Earnest
Josh watched the debates…….Keen reminder that a presidential debate can be about the future, not hate,insecurities…..but about building upon what the Pres has done in the last 7 yrs. POTUS will participate in the IL primary. He doubts that POTUS will say publicly for whom to support until a nominee is chosen.
Josh had not talked to POTUS yet, but he is sure POTUS must either had seen a little of the debate yesterday or he had seen clips today.
Yep. Mom was centimeters away from bullet whizzing by her on walk to school when she was only 12. She’s almost 76 and remembers it in slo mo like it was yesterday.
I remember any incident regarding a “gun” like it was yesterday and it never directly happened to me. My mom’s friend was shot where he worked and survived, it changed him and all of us close to him. My neighbors were held up in my building, twice. She explained how the gun man held the gun in her face and that was all she could remember. I was in terror living her alone and coming home at dark. We arranged to have escorts for all the single ladies who came home late at night.
Good day TOD! Went to bed last night being proud to be a Dem. Such a contrast with the R agenda. And just perhaps, holding off for this debate this late in the primary season ended up working for the Dems based on the numbers. I was totally surprised. I would take ANY of those candidates (other than possibly Webb) over any of the R candidates and anyone with half a brain that has not been brainwashed by FOX had to see the difference. Although I feel much better about HRC than I did before the debate, trust will always be an issue for me. I have pretty much decided if Joe doesn’t run MOM will get my primary vote.
Had the TV on and off today listening to the reactions. The funniest thing I heard was that Bernie blew his line on HRC’s emails by his refusal to practice. That was the reason his folks in the spin room said it was “unscripted”. Rather, he had intended it to be an attack by saying “Your decision to use a private email server has created this huge distraction for all the Dem candidates and our issues.” Subtle change but totally changes the meaning and ended up bailing her out instead of attacking her decision-making. I find it hilarious. He overestimated his ability to do this on the big stage without practicing based on his rallies where he faces no pressure or opposition. Big mistake.
The bottom line for me is none of the candidates on that stage have the potential we have become used to with PBO. He indeed set the gold standard for the presidency. But I was thankful that none of them went after him and his policies. And I really liked O’Malley’s line that we elected a president not a magician. A nice reminder of the obstacles he has faced.
Okay but… 😀
Duuuuuuuuuuuuudette!! :-)
My Queeeeeeeeeeeen!
 That is one freaky hug!!!!!
Just happy to see ya! 😆
she would get more points if she cut out of loud laughter.
Meh! I like a good hearty laugh. It was a sincere one. She’s got a sense of humor and not afraid to show it.
I would give her more points if she keeps Bill hidden until the GE.
Yes. I was glad he stayed out of it.
to be honest, I was half-expecting bill to be in the crowd heckling sanders. thank god for small mercies.
Hearty congratulations, Dudette!
Well thank you, Judith! :-D
Did she promise him a cabinet post because that was the very definition of running interference.
Ha! She sure ought to if she wins the nom.
That crowd imo wasn’t so much cheering Bernie as they were Hillary and her reaction tells me she knew it.
Would be unwise for her to presume too much too soon. Lots of time left on the clock. Plus all the players may not even be on the field yet. ;-)
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/10/dems.campaign/index.html
Not so much in general just in regards to that particular issue. Bernie did her a huge favor and she knew it.
Yep. True.
furst.
Good Morning Chips and TOD.
The Count is probably counting the lambchops.
:-) Moooooooooooorning BFF!!
Dam those lambchops look good. :)
Haha! You just know his mouth is watering! :-)
[mine would be too!]
I wish I’d been exposed to lamb chops at that age. I might like them now.
Figures Markie would find the food!
Good day TOD
Congrats on 1st Dudette :)
TY Chips (and NW) for all the threads yesterday evening!! Was able to view them quite late last night. Just wanted to say hi and, as noted hours ago ….
So, my ‘bottom line’ remains …. #LetsRollJoe
Hope to visit again much later today ….
Amen, Bobfr. _/|\_
Thanks Bob!
I want Joe too Bobfr. He is genuine and then if I had to choose from last night’s group… O’Malley is my next pick.
Memorizing lines and the way you deliver them isn’t a qualifier for me. not feeling the Bern or HRC. not at all.
Bob, I am with you all the way! But I am pleased that debate didn’t descend into PBO bashing contest.
Right on!
Could not have said it any better Chips. :) Listening to the progressive talk shows this morning, and hearing callers, most seem very pleased and proud to be a Democrat.
Speaking of losers, I was just watching CNN and they had “breaking news” which consisted of a tweet from The Donald attacking the Dems. SMH
You’re not serious Debz? That was breaking news? Oh gawd.
I am quite serious! They actually called it “breaking news”
My head is sore from banging it against my desk!!!
LOL
Ugh!
This workshop is so interesting and sounds like fun! I want to be there to create something right on the spot in 15 minutes. I wouldn’t be shy!
FYI, I was a babysitter for Smokey’s children as well as Duke of the 4 Tops children. :-)
Really. You were.
“I was a babysitter for Smokey’s children as well as Duke of the 4 Tops children.”

Holy heck, that’s AMAZING GGail!! Did you meet them??
Of course I met them - I had to get paid by them!!! :D
Back in those days, (1960’s) they had some beautiful homes - OMG!
That’s ridiculously fantastic, you and your secret glam life!!!!!! :-)
What a fabulous story! :)
GGail - so cool!
Wow
What the hell?!!!!
OMG!
Happy Wednesday! Glad to see that gun violence prevention came up in a sane way at the Democratic Debate. There is a cultural shift on this topic which should result in a few more gun sense measures being considered in Congress. Thanks to President Obama for his leadership!
Still seem like summer here in SoCal prettyfoot. :)
It will be 34 degrees this weekend in DC. Brrrrrrrr
Why Bernie Sanders isn’t going to be president, in five words.
http://wpo.st/BCrg0
I can give it to you in two words…..Hillary Clinton
LOL. bella !!!!
I can give you five words: Joe Biden if he runs.
I heard the caller on the Bill Press show tmmtngirl.
I must say Hillary said all the right things last night, I could see myself voting for her. I liked the way she gave President Obama the respect he deserved and earned.
that’s the sole reason she won. even sanders didn’t bite that particular bs. fuck cooper and his ilk.
Exactly! Now lets see if she keeps it up when she is campaigning in Arkansas, Kentucky and West Virginia.
Got an email from Marty Nesbitt about the Obama Foundation plans. Fascinating!

your fucking fourth estate at work folks.
only homicides count, you losers.
Ugh!
These people are total jerks.
Death is Final, no matter how. Suicides conducted with guns are in_deed Deaths.
Idiot. She said gun violence. That’s a general statement.
egg.sack.lee
Oh, I see. 30 homicides a day is no big deal. And by that token, either are 60 suicides. Geez.
This is really cool, I hope the kids really enjoy themselves and appreciate this program put together by our FLOTUS.

Every time he opens his mouth I keep asking myself, “He’s the smart one?”
His last name is a major reason why he deserves to be losing.
Yep, that’s America in a nutshell.
What was missing from the debate is the issue of white supremacy…the mention of BlackLivesMatter was mentioned by the moderator as a GOTCHA question…
one of the most pivotal voting blocs of the DEM Party…and we only get mentioned as something in passing….
This is why BLM got in their faces…..
as Rep Lewis said…”You got to make some noise”…otherwise you will not be seen or heard

The main reason GOPers and mostly lawmakers who are Caucasians want guns everywhere.
I don’t care how old it is…… any person held up by a gunman will remember it unless dementia sets in.
that’s YOU LIE No. 2 on this issue from this fecker.
I was waiting for a bus once, and some huge, crazy dude cold cocked me. I still remember that, and no gun was involved.

Now, that makes me happy that her arse is charged.
Yes. She could have seriously hurt an innocent bystander. This wild west nonsense has got to stop.
