Yes Indeed, J’OB! VP Biden is my number one choice. I just can’t seem to get exited about the others. Ultimately, however, I will vote for any of the Democratic Candidates. The Republican candidates-and I mean the whole bunch-would take this country backward, especially if they have control of both houses of Congress.

Most importantly, J’OB, how is your son? I hope he is continuing to get better and better.

Oh, nath, thanks for asking. My son’s doing good now, but he did go back in the hospital for four days a couple of weeks ago due to an infection. He was sent home, thankfully, with long-term antibiotic IV therapy, and is doing much better. Unfortunately, though, he has differing muscle aches in his back on certain days … but is pushing through that, and hanging in there! Has to have his “shark bite” wound re-packed with gauze twice a day, while it’s healing and drying out, and has a home health nurse checking on that longer-term process.

The real healing part is that - but for moments here and there - he’s still able to keep his spirits up, kid around with his mother, walk to my house occasionally for coffee and invite me to his for the same, and stays in the game. Thanks again for asking.

I was born a couple of months after FDR passed away. My view of him is based on the historical records. He did many great things, but he also had many shortcomings. His internment of Japanese Americans was horrendous and so was his failure to support a federal anti-lynching law. While I understand the politics of why he had to compromise with the Dixie-crats in order to be able to pass his New Deal programs, the fact remains that many of those New Deal programs-including Social Security-discriminated against African Americans. Personally, my take on President Obama is based entirely on my experience with presidents in my life-time. Of all the Presidents I have been conscious of, President Obama is, undoubtedly, the best president in my lifetime.

OMG! This is the longest day!!! I’ve been working at the community college all this week and it’s been great…days moving along pretty smoothly and quickly. But today is dragging! The only good thing is that I’m holding down the fort by myself and it’s verwy quiet.

Been thinking a lot about Lamar Odom. What a struggle his life has been. Sending healing thoughts and prayers his way.

    http://ktar.com/story/699324/judge-rules-medication-abortion-law-unconstitutional/
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A Maricopa County Superior Court judge has ruled that a 2012 state law that severely restricts medication abortions is unconstitutional.

Highlights what I was reading - somewhere? - the GOP continues to pass/attempt to pass laws that will cheer up their base. That they all fail is irrelevant to the reasons for spending millions on such issues.

I did not get a chance to listen to the President’s statement on Afghanistan…what is TOD’s take on the change of plan…

      October 15, 2025 at 7:18 pm

My speculation is that PBO wants to take troop levels and that difficult issue off the table for the 2016 (D) candidates.
Not as a cynical political move, but
If Afghanistan—unpredictable as it is—-blows up during the next year, PBO might prefer that whoever the Dem running is, that he or she doesn’t get buried by GOP blowback. Keeping more troops there is a protective move for Afghanistan and our eventual candidate.

The next President will have to figure this mess out.

Hi, PF - the link is in the previous post, and as I understand it PBO doesn’t see the current decisions as a change of plans. It makes sense to me that he’d monitor the situation *closely* and make decisions as events unfold, or as the situation dictates, to achieve the goals he’s set forth. Here’s the vid positioned for your listening pleasure. :D

Hi DD, you know what, I haven’t and I have been remiss.  We talked briefly of an August lunch and because this was mentioned in the midst of an admittedly busy schedule, I let the matter slide. Will check in with her this weekend.

Phew! Just did a quick peek on twitter and notice that she has been online.

It’s the okay part that resonated as soon as you asked the question, Donna! Not hearing from her re the lunch date, I assumed she was too busy when she came to town, rather than wondering if all was well. I suppose something positive could be said at my not thinking of illness or whatever, but the truth was I was busy being peeved for a bit. Sigh. Not a pretty reflection.

Singing while black: Oakland choir threatened with ‘nuisance’ fines after tech workers enter neighborhood
    BETHANIA PALMA MARKUS
    15 OCT 2015 AT 17:00 ET

Members of a black church choir are blaming an influx of affluent tech workers for their group facing thousands of dollars in fines.

Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in West Oakland received a cease-and-desist letter from the city threatening them with $500 a day in fines plus a $3,500 nuisance fee, CBS San Francisco reports. Church members believe the sudden complaints about the choir are due to the fact the area is becoming gentrified.

“Kind of hard to believe because we’ve been here about 65 years in the community and all of a sudden we get some concerns about the noise,” Thomas A Harris III, the pastor at Pleasant Grove, told the local CBS station.

The church just happens to be in a neighborhood full of the Victorian homes that characterize the Bay Area, and they’re being snapped up by wealthy tech industry workers, church officials told CBS.

“Those persons who are just new arrivals should not come and try to change the culture that existed before they arrived here,” George Holland, president of the local NAACP branch, told CBS. “We cannot have people come attack churches about music.”

 Makes me think of chickens hatching and whatever was traditionally said about counting too early! IMO, a more prudent *potential* president would have said something like - ‘It’s too early for me to be speculating on a vice president. Right now my focus is on the primary campaign and sharing my vision for the nation as a whole.’

I knew this was coming but it hits me like a punch in the stomach.

A Cabinet member endorsing the former Secretary before the VP has made his intentions known. Nauseating. Disloyal to the President who appointed him.
