Posted on last thread - sigh

GM Toders – almost bedtime down under.

I just tested how I should be voting in Canada – seems I have great correlation with the following parties
    New Democratic
Communist (my gosh – lucky I don’t live in the US)
    Green
    Liberal

I have a massive 5% correlation with the Conservative Party – not a surprise

      Good evening 99ts!! Chuckle - I’m 94% Communist!!!

        October 17, 2025 at 9:46 am

My exact number - we must have agreed on the same policies :)

        • October 17, 2025 at 9:51 am

I wasn’t keen on letting first degree murderers out after 15 years, so I’m guessing that’s where I lost my 6% of Communist-ish-ness. :-)

            October 17, 2025 at 9:57 am

I voted yes for that one - although I do not believe “one size fits all” I just cannot believe in “life without parole”.
Don’t know where my 6% went - perhaps in child care - I’ve never been a great fan of government paid child care - mainly because as introduced in Oz - the price went sky high - private childcare centres love being paid by the government.

            • October 17, 2025 at 10:04 am

Actually, the more I think about it, the more of a RWNJ I am on sentencing - would support life without parole for some crimes, among them telling jokes like Amk.

Adding to my RWNJ-ish-ness - I never really understood why government should subsidize child care at all. People need to stop and think before they get a dog to figure out whether they can afford it, but they never seem to apply the same thought to having babies.

Damn it, I sound like Michele Bachmann. :???:

I don’t know much about their political system - other than vc is working for it today :)
Does anyone know if they form coalition governments? eg New democratic/Liberal?

Oh, I’m not working today. I log my time on Monday. Today I’m lazing around trying to work up some interest in going through my large envelope of voting materials &/ instructions. Feeling the way I do, it probably won’t get done until tomorrow.

        Greetings, TS…..and Greetings TODobots all! :) :) :)

Well I’m confused - I thought Canada was sane like we down under & voted on a Saturday - when is this election? Aren’t you working on same - or as I used to say when I worked on a booth “selling the votes”.

          • 36 vcprezofan2
            October 17, 2025 at 5:09 pm

Hi TS. This election will be on Monday (in the past we’ve had Tuesday elections - i.e. no set day, to my knowledge). Also, too, we can’t ‘sell the vote’ while working. We’ve even been cautioned against wearing any of the colours which take out quite a few (blue, red, green, orange for starters in my area).

            • 37 99ts
              October 17, 2025 at 5:16 pm

We can’t “sell the vote” either vc - I used to upset folks by saying “I’m off to sell votes” when I worked on the elections. There are the usual rules about no advertising within whatever distance from the poll - but we were never told what colors we could wear - that’s a new one.

I must be reading upside down (blame the downsizing) - thought I read the elections were Saturday - sigh.

:D :D These are the colours for the main parties so they don’t want us to give any appearance of favoritism.

Our team colors are red & blue (opposite to the US in that left is red, right is blue). Spent my life voting red & wearing blue. :)

                    October 17, 2025 at 5:30 pm

That’s like us - Liberal is red, Conservative is blue. Then we have NDP as orange and Green party is green ;). There are other small regional parties and they have a colour too, but don’t ask me what they are. Because I’m who I am, as soon as I realized that I cannot wear any of the 4 main colours all I can think of to wear happens to have one of the colours. :D :D

{{{{GGail}}}} Hey, did you have any damage from the storms that came through your neck of the woods? The friend that I went to visit in LA a few weeks ago, had a huge tree fall in her backyard! Beautiful shade tree that I would sit under…now gone. Sad.

            • 75 GGail
              October 17, 2025 at 11:04 am

{{{DF}}}, fortunately no damage - thanks for asking. I couldn’t believe the amount of mud that came off the mountains and stranded/buried so many cars and big rigs! As big as the tires are on a big rig, the mud came up over the top of their tires - in a very short amount of time. And my son had just hours before, left here driving back to Salt Lake City and he was driving this little rental car. I was happy when he text me that he was home. I asked if he ran into rain and he just said yes. Then when I saw the news - I was shocked! I’m so grateful that he was ahead of all of that.

Now, this tree situation is as a result of us trying to conserve and the leaders forgot that our trees still need water for their roots. Some of the cities have gotten wise tho. Out here in my area, Monrovia/Arcadia/San Marino, they are watering the area’s around the trees.

No leader, no agenda, no work, fighting among themselves, a non politician is their leading candidate for the top office. How can the GOP be a viable party? I am at a loss. Isn’t this the place in a movie where a hero flies in to save the day?

Good choice for The President as I think the country is paying more attention than usual to this issue.
6,000 will be released from federal prisons on Oct.30 thru Nov.2. Yuuuuge
167 drug offenders with overly long sentences were released recently.
And Vice did that extraordinary documentary on PBO visiting a federal Prison.

ACA enrollment period opens on Nov. 1, so I’m looking forward to what PBO will do this year. The first open enrollment period gave us “Between Two Ferns,” remember?

Meanwhile the background noise will be the GOP meltdown and the raising of the debt ceiling which Boehner has said he will do.

      Busy Fall Season under way.

I often read Booman - like most of his posts. Good discussion on the VP here

    http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2015/10/16/143934/85

“I’m not going to tell you that Biden is head and shoulders above Clinton and Sanders or that he’d magically be able to get things done in DC just because he gets along better with the Republicans. I just think he has the best character, better foreign policy instincts than Clinton, and a better chance to avoid blowing a winnable election than the others. ”

Why do we no longer hear about “character” from the MSM - maybe because the GOPers don’t know what it means any more.

I don’t know WHY the Everton fans are booing - it’s half time. Oh, now I remember why… 2-0 ManU

  15. October 17, 2025 at 10:55 am

    My Fantasy team at half-time.

I stripped Raheem Sterling of the captaincy last night because he had failed me horribly - and then he scores a hat-trick in the first half. Which means I’d have 32 points if he was still captain. He’ll probably score 8 more in the second half. And he’ll be man of the match which gives you three more points - doubled for being captain.

I cannot tell you how much I hate life.

    http://radio.com/2015/10/16/usher-drops-new-track-chains-demands-viewers-dont-look-away/

Usher released a new single “Chains,” that asks something rather interesting of its viewers.

The collaboration with Nas and Bibi Bourelly is a Tidal exclusive that can only be seen on Google Chrome or Firefox while the viewer’s video camera is turned on. The technology will pause the video anytime the viewer looks away. The video, in other words, demands attention.

The message Usher wants to convey becomes immediately clear from the title card preceding the video’s start, which reads, “While racial injustice keeps killing, society keeps looking away.” To call attention to that problem, the video asks viewers to stare into the eyes of unarmed gun violence victims.

The video is explicit, but sends a powerful message to stop tuning out the violence occurring on a frighteningly regular basis.

I had a dream last night, or actually early this morning as the alarm clock and I were having a disagreement about when or whether I should get out of bed. I visiting a house (don’t know whose) and Reggie Love was there along with two other close associates of President Obama (never knew their names), one of whom was an elderly blind man in a wheelchair. I was so thrilled to meet them! Especially Reggie Love!!!! Twice during the dinner I received phone calls from a woman (who used to attend my church about 15 years ago) complaining that the art teacher at my school, (who was visiting the house Church Lady was staying at), had such bad dandruff that no one wanted to sit next to her and that it was actually like a cloud around her head and what was I going to do about it? Whaaaat???? Any dream interpreters out there??

  19. 142 Don
    October 17, 2025 at 11:30 am

    I’ll tackle it!

    1. The blind man means that you didn’t want any outsiders to see what was going on, you wanted privacy.

    2. When a church is present in a dream it means that you are wrestling with a moral issue, a battle between right and wrong.

    3. The woman that called you was actually telling you about a situation that you needed to be cleansed of, in fact you were the art teacher.

In summary, you are tying to figure out a situation that is weighing on you.

From the Booman link TS shared above.

    // ………………………………..

I don’t know if Clinton disingenuously came out against the Trans-Pacific Partnership to differentiate herself from Sanders or from Biden (as the BBC suggests), but everyone knows who was in charge of pushing that agreement in Obama’s first term, and it wasn’t the vice-president.

All I know is that it looks at least as likely that he will get in than that he will not, and the window is closing so we’ll hear soon enough.

Unfortunately, I still haven’t carved out enough time to thoroughly explain a rationale for Biden’s candidacy, but I will give you three things to research and discuss:

    1. Character matters- politicians accumulate voting records that reflect their unique constituencies. Sanders represents a state that is skeptical of gun control. Clinton represented Wall Street. Biden represented that corporate tax haven of Delaware. You want to hold these things against them, go ahead. But they don’t mean shit, really. No matter who wins they Democratic nomination, they will face implacable congressional opposition to anything they want to do legislatively. We choose parties by ideology, but we ought to pick presidents by character. I like Biden’s character and I have more trust in his heart than I do the hearts of his most likely opponents.

      October 17, 2025 at 11:46 am

Part of one ‘good’ response to the above post …

      // ………………………………………

      2. Foreign Policy matters

This is my biggest problem with Clinton, but I haven’t seen evidence that Biden is better. They both blew it on the Iraq vote. They both took pride in supporting the Patriot Act and voted to reauthorize it in 2006, long after it was known that the Bush administration was abusing it. Biden and Clinton don’t seem to have disagreed much at all on foreign policy or civil liberties.

      3. Electability matters

This is the weakest part of your argument. Joe Biden has run for president twice already and bombed at it. Hillary Clinton nearly won the nomination in 2008. She already polls much better than Biden, despite the fact that he hasn’t been subjected to the negatives that come with actually being a candidate. The Clintons also have much a stronger organization and ties to women and minority communities. Her election alone would be historic in a way that Biden’s wouldn’t. There is simply no contest in the electability question.

I find the discussion in that forum interesting because it was not one-sided. However, I hear you Pf, and I think *they* need a reason for VP Joe’s potential candidacy because, no matter what they say, they see it as threatening the preemptive crowning of the queen. Nevertheless, I have to add in all honesty that *we* also have a ‘reason’ for wanting VP Joe to be a candidate - we do not appreciate the preemptive crowning. It smacks the face of democracy.
