The fact that you were not disillusioned by your many defeats is a testament to you. The average person would have been crushed at the thought of coming up short as many times as you have. No doubt you’re “loads of fun” at a party, Don, giving the toast. Like if the party’s for one person who got the job, surrounded by those who didn’t, and you toasted “the defeated.” Maybe you should write a toastmaster’s book! Ha!

If I were Marilynne Robinson I would have said it was because we all fell in love with you and haven’t stopped loving you since. Some of us “knew” the moment we saw him at the 2004 convention and every thing he did afterward confirmed that first impression. The question isn’t “why we would vote for him?” The question is ‘how could we not?”

Good morning, TOD. here we are, at the start of what may be an especially momentous week in the USA. (Go, Joe!)
I thought I’d depart a bit from our usual topics this morning and share a thought about what is different now in the thousand years struggle for ownership of the land of Israel/Palestine.
In the first 2 intifadas (uprisings) there were bus bombings and bombs in public gathering places. Israeli civilians told themselves they were safe as long as they stayed out of heavily populated spots.
Now, there are people with knives striking anywhere and everywhere.
This is what terror looks and feels like.
There is no safe place.
Israelis have used terror tactics in Gaza and the West bank and East Jerusalem all along. Bulldozing homes for little apparent reason, for example.
What is different now is that all citizens everywhere have had their illusions of safety removed.
Everyone everywhere is at risk. Anyone you see on the street may have a knife and the intention to use it. All the Israeli guns and new walls they are building, can do little to stop this.
How does this ever end in some sort of humane way? It just keeps escalating and it doesn’t seem like there are any long-term solutions about how to actually stop it.
a desperate people acts in desperate ways…if you are a people without HOPE you have Nothing to lose….
the solution has always been there…Negotiate a 2 state solution…stop the settler development….etc…we all know what the should be done…
what will be America’s role
Yes, we all do know this is the best course at this juncture but it has gone nowhere.
When Israel bomb the Gaza strip and killed over a 1000 Palestinian men women and children….when they bombed UN safe Houses and schools…when they destroyed what lil life a people under occupation had…….was there any accountability??

There will not be a peaceful solution to this conflict. There will not be a 2 state solution. Those are hopeful daydreams not based in reality.
This conflict will escalate. Israelis will build more and more walls, fences, checkpoints and none of it will protect them. The amount of high walls inside of Israel already is mindboggling. It is a giant prison.
This morning there is talk in Israel of expelling Israeli Arabs from Israel. These are Arab citizens with voting rights. How can this end in anything but bloodshed and despair?
The lone perpetrator knife attacks are the beginning of what I think will be a swift descent into madness.
The Israelis are trying to blame this on the USA. Not surprising because they are in a fight for survival and don’t want to be blamed for the horrors.
Until the US stops backing Israel unconditionally…nothing can happen…the people of Israel had a chance to change direction…they chose to stand with Netanyahu

Now I’m seeing reports that he’ll make up in mind in 48 hours. Do I believe the press? I don’t know. But I have a hunch on Wednesday.

For what it’s worth, meta, I agree that we will be hearing from VP Biden very soon. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow, maybe Wednesday.
Before HRC has to testify at the Benghazi hearings and in time for the Jackson dinner this weekend.
I believe VPB will be joining the 2016 race.

My family & I are planning to spend Christmas in Disneyland. We’re leaving on Dec. 23rd and coming home on the 30th.
I’m fine! Hope all is well with you. The other day I was sitting at the Ferry Bldg having brunch in the morning sun and I thought of you!
Christmas in Disneyland will be great fun for you and your family. It will be warm and you’ll have a week to get to explore Los Angeles - a real adventure.
Thank you! I’m doing okay now, But on Sunday I had a Panic attack. Went to my family doctor on Monday. I used to be on Zoloft, and if necessary Klonopin, I haven’t used it in years. I was doing very well for a long time. I stopped taking my zoloft a year ago, and I had no problems. He prescribed me both, and I have appt. with a counselor next week.
Last Sunday, not yesterday.
Oh, I’m sorry you went through that. I hope your doctor is able to provide good help with this in a way that makes sense for you. I will keep you in my thoughts, sjterrid. XOXO
