May it adds color and make your life more bright.

And gives you the strength to face every strife.

May it further enrich you with lots of peace and wealth.
Happy Durga Puja

amk, as is the custom of human beings, there are two sides to everything…
http://scroll.in/article/763457/i-am-a-bengali-and-heres-why-i-dont-like-durga-puja
“As a Bengali, you are expected to be fond of Pujo. Well, I’m not, and there are many others like me who’re afraid to speak up. I remember visiting different puja committees, the Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation, the municipal corporation and others to investigate the costs involved, and of course they were absurdly high. Neighbourhoods vied with one another to win the best pandal competitions, by being more extravagant than the other. Some of them resembled famous monuments. Their interiors were adorned with chandeliers and brocade. Sure, they looked grand and creative and many came from outside Calcutta to gape open-mouthed at their opulence. But in a country where poverty ran so deep, it all seemed a humongous waste. Certainly, the light displays were breathtaking in their splendour. Street after street was strung with lights that assumed the shape of peacocks, elephants, national monuments and international celebrities. But in a land where millions lived without electricity, it was yet another irony.”
This is originally intended to be celebrated with the family in your home. Now everything is commercialized and gone gaudy and gauche. Also. Too. North and South celebrate it totally differently. Northies are uncouth.
Oh, okay, thanks for the clarification :-)
😎 My Futures so bright, I’ve got to wear shades.
Gooooooooood Morning…TOD…
There is a lot of HYPE and Drama …out there re: the VP…i think i will not play….
just await an announcement….That is all…
It’s the same for me. 😏
Good Morning, Everyone :)
Good morning TOD.
I see attendance has dropped here. My guess is that we are holding our breath awaiting an announcement from VP Biden.
President Obama is not waiting around twiddling his thumbs. I am glad to see POTUS focusing on prison populations. The 6,000 prisoner release is about a week away!!! Another BFD for the American people.
Reports: Iran’s supreme leader endorses landmark nuclear deal
Kim Hjelmgaard, USA TODAY 7:38 a.m. EDT October 21, 2025
Iran’s supreme leader on Wednesday endorsed the landmark nuclear deal with world powers, according to his official website.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei endorsed the deal in a letter to moderate President Hassan Rouhani that was also read on state TV, the Associated Press and Reuters said.
Iran’s parliament and the country’s top clerics previously approved the deal, but Khamenei has the final say on major policies.
In the United States, congressional Democrats previously blocked a Republican resolution to scupper the agreement.

Donald Trump Leads in Expectations, Shows Strength on Attributes (POLL)
By JULIE PHELAN Oct 21, 2015, 7:00 AM ET
Donald Trump leads the Republican presidential field in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, not only in vote preferences but in expectations as well -– a remarkable feat for the non-politician who’s surprised the GOP establishment with his staying power as well as his support.
Trump has leveled off with backing from 32 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents who are registered to vote, easily enough to retain his frontrunner status. Fellow outsider Ben Carson follows with 22 percent, also flat this month after sharp summertime gains.
Notably, even more leaned Republicans — 42 percent — say they expect Trump to win the GOP nomination for president. And given a list of six potential nominees, 43 percent pick Trump as having the best chance to win the general election just more than a year from now.

The only one who want Trump to win are his racists supporters, and the media. Alot of Republicans don’t want to see him win. But the media will play that down.
Agree with you on that, bella. Trump is largely a media creation at this point, which is more than a FULL year away from anyone casting a presidential vote.
George Takai is also on Broadway in “Allegiance.” The leading characters are Japanese. Heart Mountain is in WY.
Good morning, TOD! Day three of a very busy week — med appointments/treatments M,T,Th; office hours plus having new HVAC installed today; Friday will find me baking for a charity function; Saturday, charity function in Baltimore during the day, and a banquet in Delaware that evening. I MUST BE Cra-cra… On the other hand — Thank God for outstanding medical care; Thank God for the resources to change to an HVAC system that is better for my respiratory system; Thank God that I can donate my time and talent to help someone else. 1st world “problems” — I won’t complain…
Morning, jazziz. Hope all your medical appointments go well. You really have a tremendously busy schedule.
Thus far, the med appts are going extremely well. My Dr is encouraged by my body’s reaction to the Xolair; hope to be off the steroids is a coupe of months. Had to turn on the heat(oil) the other day; resulted at least one asthma attack, Sunday - Tuesday. The one on Monday had me considering calling 911; instead, as I was trying to get out the door to the Dr, I tripled up on my nebulizer and took a mega dose of steroid; that did the trick and got my breathing under control and me to my appointment. My Dr asked “what would I have done if self treatment had NOT alleviated the problem?” My response “Had I not been breathing close to normal after finishing the neb, I’d have called 911.” He concurred in my emergency self treatment plan; glad that I am not one to panic in crisis, and that my emergency plan is sound…
As I type, HE Gas heater and central air are being installed. I’m Blessed…
Thanks!
Best wishes for continuing care. What is an HVAC? Is that a heat, ventilate and air conditioning unit?
You got it! Installing gas heat and central air. Have been using window air conditioners, however, as it has become difficult to do heavy lifting/carrying, I’m biting the bullet and going central…
Good for you. We didn’t have air conditioning until about fifteen years ago. We put in what is usually found on the top of mobile homes in Arizona, a heat pump. It takes hot air in and it does whatever and blows out cool. It does the opposite in cold weather when we turn on the heat. Very economical because only the fan uses electricity. Ours is on the ground in the back of house though, not on our slanted roof. Even if the electricity goes off it will heat the house enough to keep us from freezing. It has happened; Every few years we get a snowstorm that knocks out the electricity.
My grandparants purchased the house in 1917. Back then, there was a coal stove in the dining room, heat to the second floor was via a gravity vent in the dining room ceiling. At some point, forced air oil heat was installed on the first floor and in the second floor bathroom. After freezing my first winter back here, I had direct vents installed in the three bedrooms. Hated spending $$$, however, my health is more important than $$$…
It definitely is more important. Take care of you. ❤️
Sorry, got a little windy in Wyoming. 💨
Sending you hugs and best wishes Sweetie!
I’m sorry to hear that the young kid from Texas who was arrested for bringing the clock he made to school will be moving, he will be leaving this country. I’m so sorry he had to go through what he went through all because of racism in this country. I wish him the best. I’m glad he got the chance to meet our President, hopefully he saw that not all Americans are like those racists in Texas. And I know not all Texans are racists. Best of luck to the young kid and his family.
Good morning Annieb. Do you have a link or direct me to where you read that he’s leaving the US? I thought he was just transferring to a different school
GGail I don’t have a link, I heard it on the morning news this morning. They said he was moving to (Qatar, I think that is spell right) anyway he will be attending some top notch school.
As I said I am sorry his parents felt the need to have Ahmed leave this country. It is too darn bad those Texas racists isn’t the ones leaving this country.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/texas-clock-kid-ahmed-mohamed-to-move-to-qatar/
Thanks annieb for the information and thanks df for the link. It’s sad that the family is leaving.
Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family.
I went home yesterday at Noon and aggressively attacked my head cold and feel much better this morning 😎

Gail, so happy you are feeling better! Are you taking today off to fully recover?
No Alycee, I’m here at my desk :-(
I’m so happy to see that you are able to have central air/heat installed. It will do wonders for your breathing. {{{{hugs}}}

The Great Unraveling: The GOP examines itself in free fall
Joe Biden got some excellent news yesterday. For the first time in more than two years of ABC/WaPo polling, President Obama topped the 50 percent approval mark in job performance. “That compares with 71 percent disapproval of the Republicans in Congress,” reports ABC News, “with six in 10 calling their struggle to select a new House speaker a sign of dysfunction within the GOP caucus.”
I don’t know which is more uplifting: that Obama is back in the black or Republicans are drenched in red. On the surer side of knowability, though, Obama will still be his solid self in 2016 — which is particularly good news for a legacy presidential candidate — while congressional Republicans will have further ulcerated into bleeding chaos. By winter, they will have hauled us to the edge of national catastrophe several times. Thus the happiest days will be here again, for the GOP’s current 24 percent approval rating will, by then, be cause for internal nostalgia.
The electorate is beginning to figure this out, and conservatives are freaking out. Their party is an incurable blight, a wasteland of fringy frivolity and crackpot extremism. The Republican House is a thunderdome of bloody imbecility, the Republican Senate is a hothouse of pornographic presidential hopefulness, and the party’s leading contenders for the republic’s highest office are two very implausible wombats.
The spawn of strategic Bill Buckley’s baby, National Review Online, wailed yesterday that “members of the Republican establishment are starting to give voice to an increasingly common belief that Donald Trump, once dismissed as joke, a carnival barker, and a circus freak, might very well win the nomination.” If so, the carnival-barking Trump will be embraced by much of the establishment, which the electorate will then dismiss as the real joke.

Good morning all. I haven’t been posting much lately, but I read every day. I find that during this time of grieving, just taking care of my daily needs and teaching and dealing with officialdom take all my energy. I am adapting…..well, sort of…..to living alone, and am very thankful for my darling poodle, Chanel, She is comforting company. My friends continue to be warm support and very caring. Thanks to all of you for your many words of support. You are a great community.
I remember that during the last week of his life, my husband said “President Obama is still president, isn’t he?” I answered “Yes, honey. He is.” A big smile covered his face. I am glad for him that he will never have to know any other one. He had been an FDR aficionado all his life, and placed PBO at that level, and by the end of his life, said PBO was the greatest president of his lifetime. I miss my darling man.
{{{carolyn}}} Good morning to you…one day at a time. He’s with you…just like my mom is with me. I really believe that. Hope that the thought of that puts a smile on your face and gives you peace and a sense of serenity. Hugs to you.
Morning, TOD…busy days, reading but not posting. Have a field trip today, should be fun.
Oh Carolyn, your love for your husband is such an inspiration. My heart goes out to you for this time of healing and grief.
gm Caroline - so many hugs to you - and keep remembering all the good times - your husband’s love is always there.
{{{{{ carolyn }}}}
Thinking of you Sweet Carolyn. Hoping warm, loving memories and hugs from family and friends
{{{{{carolyn}}}}}} Anything you accomplish in a day is a major feat. Give yourself credit. There are so many “firsts” after losing someone close; often simple, small things that wouldn’t make sense to anyone but you, and that sets you back. You are doing what you need to do, in the order that you need to do it. Be gentle with yourself, and know that you have a wellspring of love at TOD to help in any way we can.
There is nothing like the comfort of a dog. I’m so glad you have Chanel.
Thinking of you Carolyn. And wishing for you the day that all of the pain is replaced with sweet memories.
<3 _/|\_ <3
Big hugs Carolyn. I have missed your posts and am glad to hear from you. I’m so glad your friends are around you and you have a loving dog. Their love and body warmth is there when you need it. Everyone grieves at their own pace. The standard advice is not to make major decisions for about a year if you can avoid it. Of course sometimes you have no choice. Wishing and praying you find some comfort in your memories. It’s been twenty years and I still haven’t sorted through my Mothers family photos. She was a shutterbug.
If you need professional help, please get it. How is your health? Take care of you. ❤️
Thanks to all of you. I am going to a grief group every Wednesday. It helps. Actually, my health is better than it has been. I check my blood pressure every day, and it is on a good trajectory down. I think the relief of the stress of the past two years is easing my insides. I do feel his love. A friend gave me a book of daily readings called Healing After Loss…..short readings, all I can concentrate on. It has been a great help…some days more than others, of course. One day what stuck out to me was “We do know that love binds us to the dead and they to us - in stretchable, but NOT breakable bonds.” I loved that “Stretchable bonds” I think about that every day.
Take care Carolyn. ❤️
{{Carolyn}} it’s good to hear from you. I’m glad you are doing what you can.
{{{{carolyn}}}}

Ha! Only if I had a death wish! Get back to me when it’s got a seat, a control panel, protection from the elements and maybe a wet bar! 😃
