They were chomping at the bit to tear him to shreds: Hillary, Bernie and the GOP. They were combing over every vote, every utterance. He is, hands down, the best man in America to be the next POTUS. We would have loved Jill as First Lady.

It is now up to us to hammer Sanders and Clinton on running on PBO’s legacy. Let’s get to work.

His voice will carry a lot of weight. While the preference is Joe Biden running for President, I respect his and his family’s decision. At least he won’t be restricted by many of the shackles of candidacy. He hadn’t even said he was running and his words and actions were being scrutinized and picked apart. Can you imagine how much worse it would be if he *were* running?!?!?!

Given the silence of leadership in the DNC, his voice will fill a void and hopefully influence Democrats during the 2016 election season in ways that DWS, et al are not.

I’m sure the media is disappointed that they will not be able to dramatize the “battle” between VP Biden and HRC that they had been anticipating.

Well, amk & TOD community, I’ll be looking around the country for local folk - US & State Legislature, Governors, etc., whom I might be compelled to provide time & $$. As to 8 Nov 2016, whomever the D is they’ll get my vote, but that’s it.

I meant what I stated above. It’s back to banker buddy, chicken hawks in the White House cuz the choice is gonna be two totally narcissistic folk with bad hair, a propensity to bully and lie no matter the topic, at the top of the ticket next year.

When VP Biden stated the ‘timetable’ parameter he indicted the US political process in the most profoundly negative way.

It was a ‘timetable’ that SCOTUS leveraged as a distraction to install ILLEGALY!! GWB. And, moments ago I experienced the same sense of horror for Americans & humanity that I felt the day of their decision.

btw, it’s the very same sense of horror I felt the day RFK was assassinated - the instant I heard that news on my car radio I knew America was going to suffer enormously because Nixon would inevitably become President months later.

I don’t believe in miracles, but if I did I’d know that it’s gonna take one to keep America & humanity from suffering gravely after 20 Jan 2017.

For now, I’ll do whatever I can to support President Obama and VP Biden until they leave office …………………..

Beautiful statement from VP Joe. Joe has had a serious impact on the primary already with his standing with the President and I believe in the year ahead he will have an impact on the presidential race, especially on the Democrats in keeping them honest in support of the Obama legacy. He will no doubt endorse, with President Obama, the Democratic nominee and work hard for their election, as will I. It is vital for the preservation of the great accomplishments of President Obama and the good of our country and the world, especially the cause of social justice and world peace. In his statement Joe gave us a preview of the coming year and his energized work for causes like curing cancer and other issues.

While I am sad for the country, I respect his decision and wish him and his family happiness, healing, and peace. Our Joey has been a warrior in the good fight for a long time and we are so blessed to be a witness to possibly his most shining years as partner and VP for PBO. I will try not to feat for our country’s future and to live in faith that the work of the Obama administration will not be in vain, but will be expanded upon to the betterment of the U S and the world.
For the dems that are in the race, I will only say that I hope one will prevail (anyone, except for maybe Webb) is better than any repug (ugh!) running. On the more personal front, the almost painful hope, fear and anxiety that I had when PBO was running in 2008;2012 that had my stomach in knots and my beating faster is a thing of the past. It is now objectivity, practicality and back to the way things have always been in American politics (sigh).

  58. 119 Lovepolitics2008

Except for the beginning, this looked like it was written as a speech for a campaign launch.

This is heartbreaking. It’s not about he and his family being ready. It’s because he doesn’t have, realistically, the time to organize a serious run.

What a speech. He would have won the nomination.

What I hope is that every person who has laughed at Biden in the past just shut the F*** up and FINALLY GIVES HIM THE RESPECT HE DESERVES. He has it all; knowledge, empathy, pragmatism, charisma, gravitas.

good for joe, bad for the country. i was hopeful he’d run but my rational side kept telling me he won’t.

hillary will not win the general national election. she’s a horrific campaigner. barring some miracle candidate still or major clinton implosion/dropout, we’ll have a republican president next. come to think of it, even the 5% chance she can pull it off, we’ll still have a republican president based upon her voting record and everything she and her husband have done over the years. then of course, when in office (not going to happen though) there will be all kinds of scandals with her team and bill that democrats will get further decimated nationally, just as what happened last time the clintons controlled the party and brought us dumbya bush.

when she announced she was running again, i knew it was over. cannot believe we’re still having to deal with the clintons and bushes after all these years. might have to stop at the liquor store on the way home today.

I’m saddened and disappointed by VP Biden’s announcement. But it was ultimately his decision to make, and he has served this country better than anyone could ask of a Vice President. He will leave office on a high note - with his decency and integrity intact. I hope his words today resonated with the current crop of Dem candidates, their campaign strategists, funders and supporters. I will re-iterate in my own words the summary of his wise advice:

“Don’t you dare run a campaign that attempts to erase PBO’s legacy; don’t you dare try to “distance” yourself from him, and pretend that the last 8 years didn’t happen or were inadequate or a failure; Don’t you dare think that you can win an election by trying to court the bigotry or anti-Obama emprog vote and throwing our current POTUS under the bus in the process.”

I am trying hard not to sink into despair over VPBiden’s announcement. It’s a blow to the heart and a punch to the gut. But I will follow the model set by President Obama in the year ahead. He will want us to support the Democratic candidates for Senate and the Democratic nominee because he knows how much is at stake with the Supreme Court, the economy, climate change, gun violence, racial justice and other issues critical to our future as a country. He knows there will be hope with a Democrat and nothing but disaster with a Republican and he will leave no stone unturned, no donor untapped, no voter unreached to help the D nominee. President Obama will need our help and because I love and support him, I will do no less than give my full, unqualified support to the nominee.

Anyway I have nothing but respect for VP Biden. I agree with what someone up above said. It would have made a heck of a campaign speech, and god I wish he was running it.
I have so many issues with other dems-top to bottom-trust, trust, trust, belief in their ability to stand up for the little American people, and to stand up for what is right.
It’s just real hard right now to have any kind of hope in what 2016 will bring. I wanted to participate in this election cycle with passion, and optimism, and now…I try not to shudder.
How do we fight for the agenda that we want- against our own party. I know I have to try. I wish I could be stronger now, cause WE must prevail in this people!

    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/22/world/middleeast/iran-nuclear-deal-ayatollah-ali-khamenei.html

TEHRAN — Iran’s supreme leader on Wednesday publicly endorsed for the first time the July nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers, state news agencies reported. But the provisional endorsement was accompanied by a warning that Tehran expected all sanctions to be lifted or it would walk away from the deal.
The support of the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is the final step in an approval process involving the Supreme National Security Council, the Iranian Parliament and the Guardian Council. Iran can now begin carrying out the measures outlined in the agreement, including dismantling thousands of centrifuges used for enrichment and downsizing a heavy water plant so that it can no longer produce plutonium.
The endorsement was included in a letter addressed to President Hassan Rouhani that included accusations against the United States, Iran’s longtime enemy, and pointed out several flaws in the deal, state television reported.

So very sad at this news. I send big hugs of condolence to all TODers. What a huge hole I feel in the world at this moment. So I will sulk and pout and stomp my feet and take to my bed and sob for the rest of today. And then I must get back on my feet and get to work, as President Obama, and Vice President Biden, would want me to do.

Like several of you have mentioned, I will turn my energies to the local and state races. I believe on Monday that 30-40 Democratic candidates went to D.C. to meet with Democratic legislators and others about gearing up their campaigns against Republican incumbents in the House and Senate. We should check into who these Democrats were and support their runs for office.

For instance, New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan (D) is running against Senator Kelly Ayotte (R), one of McConnell’s right hand people. And Ohio Governor Ted Strickland (D) is running against Senator Rob Portman (R), another of McConnell’s henchmen. Let’s work to win these two seats, and more, for Democrats, and undercut the power of the Republicans in both houses.

And I’m sure there are other races for Governor of various states, that could swing things in our favor if we got the Democratic candidates elected. Anything we can do at the state levels to get in people, at all levels, who would work to restore voting rights to all those who have been disenfranchised during the last decade.

Much to do along these lines, but for a few hours here I need to have a full blown pity party. bbfn

He has no warmth at all, does he?

And damn, I got mad: the BernieBots saying that Biden stole Bernie’s ideas!

I shot back: Bernie is not the only one with progressive ideas. If he’d supported PBO’s long list of progressive policies, maybe we’d be a whole lot farther along.

I’m having a whole lot of trouble with Bernie.

From Josh Marshall at TPM (http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/biden-won-t-run):

Absent a catastrophic collapse of the Clinton campaign, it was hard for me to see where a Biden campaign wasn’t a high teens, low twenties run, running respectably but never able to move into a dominant position. And rather than collapsing, Hillary appears to be rebounding.

That’s a ‘what the hell’ run. At his age, with his recent family losses and with the respect and admiration he’s built in seven years of the vice presidency, as the President’s most loyal and sage advisor, a ‘what the hell’ run does not make sense. I’m bummed not to see him run. And I’m bummed Joe Biden will never be President. But this was the right decision.

THAT’s how you make a statement. I tweeted O’Malley’s statement to Bernie - maybe he’ll learn something about looking human.

VPBiden was and will always be the greatest VP in my lifetime. He is a decent man, and I am so grateful that he has always had President Obama’s back as president and wonderful friendship as a true friend. The best to VP Biden and his beautiful family.HZ

I’m saddened and sorry that VP Biden decided not to run, but I’m not really that surprised. Thank you for your service. You are a great Vice President, the best we ever had. Thank you also for putting the other Dems on notice, that they better run on the President’s record.

The last two days were terrible with all the speculation from the media. I don’t think Joe Biden would want his family to see him torn apart by the media.
