Thank you NerdyWonka for the day’s tweet roundup. It’s been a stunningly full day, with the President as usual leading our attention toward the real work of government, and away from the silly/sinister shenanigans of the opposition.
Like many of you here, I’ve had a hard time seeing our dear Vice President turning away from a run for the Presidency. My feeling is, in order to campaign successfully, and govern well, you have to reeeeeally want it. Fired Up! Ready to Go! Joe’s prolonged decision-making process prepared me for his opting out. Maybe that’s what it was for. To let us all down easy.
What’s extra sad is that we’re not entirely comfortable with the remaining candidates. Yes, HRC did a splendid job in the debate, and in the Benghazi grilling today. And Bernie has burned his last bridge by declaring he’s not planning to defend PBO’s accomplishments. So no contest. But still, no great feeling of yippee.
I know I’m spoiled, having loved every minute of the Obama years. That’s something new in my long life, and I shouldn’t expect it to ever happen again. But I want it, and I find myself stuck in the bargaining/anger stages of grief over it’s passing.
For now, I’m letting everyone who so desires carry on with the primary races. It’s important, and I appreciate that they can do that work. I’m just going to be present with the remaining time of the Obama Presidency, so I don’t miss out on any of the goodies. And there are goodies every day! When he’s moved on to his next gig, I’ll continue to follow him, and Michelle, and the first daughters too- these are my touchstone people. I know they won’t disappoint.
And when the Democratic nominee is chosen, I’ll work and fight for the election of whoever that may be. But I’ll keep coming here to share in the essential focus on the Obama Presidency, because that’s what he deserves.
Judith reminded me of signing up to the Obama Foundation the other day. One reason I had for not doing this yet is that my emails are back-logged.
The other major reason was that I didn’t know what issue I thought the Obamas should concentrate. Hey, I’m a Taurus, it takes me awhile to make decisions. I decided #BlackLivesMatter The Obamas have a unique qualification to move America #FORWARD
If we overcome the problems of not respecting #BlackLivesMatter other issues will sort themselves out much faster. It is Americas, USA, original sin. WhitePeople should atone for not doing Reconstruction the Right way after the Civil War.
This doesn’t mean other issues should not be addressed also. We at TOD know the Obamas are qualified in many areas.
This is a gem! Thanks, CarolMaeWY, for sharing it. I am so glad that the President chose Chicago, where he began his political involvement as a young community organizer/activist. Chicago’s South-side occupies a very special place in African American history.
Thank you very much Nathkatun7. Agreed on Chicago. NYC didn’t have the same History for POTUS. Are you from Chicago? It would be nice for the State of Hawaii, but it is not as accessible to most people.
Pres. Obama will still visit Hawaii.
No, I am not from Chicago. But i know that Chicago was a major magnet for African American migrants from the South who were escaping from Jim Crow and lynching. Oscar De Priest, the first African American elected to Congress from the Northern states, was from South-side Chicago. Black chicagoans created independent Black businesses, independent Black churches, nationally circulated Black newspapers like the “Chicago Defender,” and was home to many important Black music pioneers in Gospel, Blues and Jazz. Please don’t get me wrong, NY’s Harlem also occupies a special place in our African American history. Although the President went to Columbia University in NY, It was in Chicago where he got immersed in the community and eventually planted his family roots.
I’m with you, susanne, on all of that. I’m also “present” with the remaining time of the Obama-Biden years. There’s nothing much more we can do, if we feel the hurt, as many of us do. I’m not going to slam HRC or any of them - there’s just nothing to say about them, from my personal point of view. I’ll vote for the 2016 nominee, and support some favorite down-ticket Democrats, directly, with a little cash.
We’ll never see the likes of Barack Obama and Joe Biden on “the top of the ticket” again, which takes some getting used to, but I am so very grateful to have been given the pleasure of watching them in action, these many years. And no doubt the two of them have more to give our country.
I would only comment about this next part, late night on my favorite blog. Took a siesta this afternoon and, while I don’t normally remember any dreams from a nap, I did today. There were people in the dream I recognized from my personal life. Then - I swear to God - Joe Biden walked in the room. He walked around saying hello to the others. Then he walked up to me and planted a kiss on my lips. And he was a horrible kisser! Woke me right up, and I remember thinking I felt like I needed mouthwash or something.
I think it was my mind’s way of telling me, “You’ll get over him. Here’s why: He can’t kiss.” Ha!!!!! Goodnight, TOD. Sweet dreams, baby.
“We’ll never see the likes of Barack Obama and Joe Biden on “the top of the ticket” again, which takes some getting used to, but I am so very grateful to have been given the pleasure of watching them in action, these many years. And no doubt the two of them have more to give our country.”
I feel the same way as you JO’B! I certainly feel blessed to have been around to witness the presidency of Barack Obama and the vice-presidency of Joe Biden.
oh my f-ing gawd. i cannot stand her! that’s so phoney and contrived. copying president obama. ugh, i think i’m going to have to become an alcoholic or live off the grid foe the next year to handle this time.

A coworker of mine jokingly called me an oreo the other day. Now before I say anything, let me first say that I am a 25 year old Black male who walks with confidence. And that confidence was earned. It wasn’t given to me. I very much know who I am, where I come from, where I’ve been, and where I’m going. And that isn’t an accident. Second, I am BLACK, the city I’m from is BLACK, the continent I’m from is BLACK, and my experience in America has been wholly and unequivocally BLACK. And the experience in America for Black boys is one where you’re shamed for speaking Black American vernacular and then shamed for speaking “proper” English.
The experience in America for Black boys is one where your Blackness is a costume. It is a thing you do or say or dress as. A costume that can be given to you or taken away from you is not who you ARE. I know who I am and my confidence is no accident. And it’s a shame that the term “oreo” came from a person of color’s mouth. And it’s a shame that it came out in the workplace. Where I’m just going about my business trying to provide for myself not expecting my identity to be called into question before I have the time to digest it. I also have to wonder what it is I should have done or said that in his mind would’ve validated my Blackness. But that’s none of my concern and I’m not here to prove myself to anyone. Because the experience in America for Black boys is one where you can be legally murdered no matter where in the Black Diaspora you fall; no matter how you speak or what your education level is. I can provide a list of names of dead Black boys of all backgrounds longer than this post, if need be.
I walk with confidence and that confidence was earned. The way I speak is a roadmap of where I’ve been in the world and I love that about myself. I’m just as likely to say “Breh last night was hella lit” as I am to reference Plato’s cave being lit. If in your world that’s juxtaposition. I speak the way I speak because I write and I love language. That’s me. But anyway, joke or not, I felt I needed to say the fact that I’m glad that I know myself. Because that wasn’t always the case, given the nature of the Black experience in America. I know myself. I own myself. And anyone who isn’t on that same page and is regurgitating things and following rules created by people who hated us, can miss me. Simple and plain.
OK, I’m so going to miss PBO come 2017. Going to enjoy the next few months & year. So glad to have been alive in the years of PBO. Snippets of his fab rebuttals, so many out there:
With VP Biden deciding not to run. I think the Benghazi witch hunt just convince me to support Hillary Clinton 100%. This country can not afford a Republican in the White House.
Imprimis offers $1 alternative to Turing’s $750 pill
A specialty drugmaker said it would sell for less than $1 a version of Daraprim, an anti-infective drug at the heart of allegations of “price gouging” involving Turing Pharmaceuticals after it hiked the price by over 5,000 percent to $750 a pill.
The 62-year-old Daraprim is sold in the United States by the tiny Turing, whose controversial CEO Martin Shkreli has become the face of industry profiteering after bumping up the drug’s price to $750 from $13.50 a pill after buying it in August
Iowa Poll: Carson surges to 9-point lead; Trump slides
Donald Trump is the biggest loser in the new Iowa Poll.
The pious Ben Carson has plowed past the braggadocious New York businessman to take the front-runner crown, unseating Trump as the most popular choice for president among likely GOP caucusgoers, the new Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics poll shows.
Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, is the favorite choice for 28 percent — 9 percentage points ahead of Trump’s 19 percent.
Even Carson’s most controversial comments — about Muslims, Hitler and slavery — are attractive to likely Republican caucusgoers. The poll shows just two perceived weaknesses: his lack of foreign policy experience and his research using fetal tissue during his medical career.
Carson, who now leads the GOP field in Iowa according to the latest Quinnipiac Poll, would eliminate the program that provides health care to 49 million senior citizens, as well as Medicaid, and replace it with a system of cradle-to-grave savings accounts which would be funded with $2,000 a year in government contributions. While rivals have been pummeled for proposing less radical changes, Carson hasn’t faced the same scrutiny — and his continued traction in polls has left GOP strategists and conservative health care wonks scratching their heads.
“This isn’t a borderline issue. The politics of this are horrific,” said Doug Holtz-Eakin, head of the American Action Forum and health care adviser to Sen. John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign.
Carson’s stance on the third-rail issue of Medicare is especially risky given his strength among elderly voters. In Iowa, Carson draws a quarter of the senior vote — more than double any other candidate except Donald Trump, with whom he’s statistically tied among seniors. Carson’s support is even higher among voters between the ages of 55 and 64, who are on the verge of Medicare eligibility. He draws 34 percent of that age group, double Trump’s level of support, according to the Quinnipiac poll.
Df, Carson is a symptom of insanity among Republican primary voters. He does not stand a chance of getting the nomination and would be creamed into paste in a general election. The only good news about this is that chief clown Trump may be losing his shine.
Given how they speak about the President, why would they vote for Carson. I think the polling is way off base. Will be interesting to see the first result & how it compares to the polls.
Oh please, I’d empty out my 401k right one and hand it over to you if you can produce one single person that said “Lincoln Chafee would make a great President.”
I had one of Trump’s Iowa Monsanto corn-brain issues this morning - forgot I was getting a ride to work and got in the other car. Well, all of us Iowans have these Monsanto brain issues, comes with the territory! OTOH, it makes us real touchy about being insulted. :-) Especially those GOP farmers out there…
All these f’ing excuses folks are making for Clinton……
Ignore the fact that if she would’ve followed the Black guy’s instructions, this shit would’ve never happened in the first place!
The same folks that couldn’t defend Obama on bogus charges of sexism in 2013 now expect folks like me to give a full hearted defense of Hillary’s incompetence?!
#FUCK YOU!
If the roles were reversed, Black academics would be screaming for Barack to drop out the race now to prevent any further embarrassment.
And speaking of the farce known as the 2016 election, to top all of this off, I’d be willing to bet that Bernie is likely to be Hillary’s VP choice….
The subliminal message that sends to Obama & Black people in general. Like I said before, count me out. I’m done.
This isn’t about Dem vs Repub anymore, it’s about keeping Black people in check. I can’t & will not under any circumstance support that shit. Point, blank, period.
Yesterday was the perfect example of someone masturbating for eleven hours and hoping for a big climax, every time it appeared that a climax was near the sensation quickly disappeared. At the end of those eleven hours when it became clear that a climax was not to be had. Zippers all across the Republican landscape were pulled up and once again they were left limp and embarrassed.
Rikyrah, small point about this rant, which everyone is entitled to. I think there is no chance in hell that HRC would ask Sanders to be her VP. She does not trust him and would not want him knifing her in the back and going his own independent way. There are a lot of things to be upset about, but this isn’t one of them.
Rikyrah, you are so right, President Obama told her from the giddy-up to stay away from Blumenthal. But since Blumenthal is a Clintonista she went all in with him. I’m thinking that there is some fucked up shit said about President Obama is those emails.
I don’t think there’s a snowballs chance in hell that she would bring Bernie aboard. The Clintons want people that will take a bullet for them, Bernie enjoys the smell of his own farts to show any sort of deference to the Clintons.
while i agree with the sentiments in that rant, i will vote for her if it’s between her and any modern republican for the supreme court alone. not sure i’d say this if the republican party was run by “old school” republicans, but given how off the rails they are now, i don’t think the “great american experiment” could survive a modern republican president today. king bush the 2nd almost did it in with the crash of 2008.
in the meantime, i’m still holding hope for some major change in the race for the democratic nomination and do anything i can to make sure she’s not the nominee. i also don’t think she can win a national race, since she’s so terrible on the campaign trail and her team she HAS DECIDED to surround herself with is truly atrocious.
Morning all. Have lots to do this am, so will miss the Early Bird group. We’ve got a little over a week til the 2015 elections (which are still going on) and there is a lot to do. Hope everyone has a great day!!!!

Although in that last pic the cat looks like it’s beginning to give a shit.

Speaking of sweet things, I highly recommend the Russell Stover GREAT PUMPKIN caramel in milk chocolate little slice of heaven.
You’ll thank me.
I love ya, Ms. J’OB but chocolate should NEVER be corrupted with nuts, caramel, fruit, etc. :)
Normally, I would agree totally with you - and “without” is my first choice. For this little delight, however, I shall bend my own rules.
Ha.
There is no such thing as corrupt chocolate.
I knew there was a reason you were ok in my book.

Sir Bob, I always appreciate your fighting words. They give me hope that the world can always be a better place. Bless!
Thank you very much, Gazelle.

Ok, rant over.
Be very proud of your kid Gazelle and may he reach whatever heights he aims to reach. A rant that well describes what many never see.
Thanks so much, 99ts! I keep wishing our kids don’t have to hear that old, divisive nonsense, but we’re not there yet. Uggh!
Thanks Gazelle.
:) :)
Oh what a lovely rant, Gazelle, what a proud mama you must be :) :)
Sherijr, yes indeed! :)
feeling you.
totally feeling you.
Thank you, Bobfr :) I’m going to keep hoping that this nonsense is rendered into ugly history & not our present.
Yes, rikyrah! :)
Your son is a force and an eloquent writer, Gazelle. Thank you for sharing a little bit of him with all of us.
Oops, Bobfr, my response to you ended up above. :)

GM Gazelle, Thank you for the videos. They brought back such good memories.
Yes, and thanks for sharing your son’s rant. Be proud, Momma.
So far I have just listen to part 1, but let me thank you Gazelle. It was fun watching. I have to watch the other two.
After all these years I still love watching were POTUS took the crying baby from FLOTUS and the baby stop crying, and looking at FLOTUS response. :).
thanks for posting! love the president, the dunces never seem to learn.
How about that John Harwood, and the President did it with “NO HELP” from the right wing do nothing tea Republicans.
He did with it constant kneecapping from the thugs as well as his own party.
With VP Biden deciding not to run. I think the Benghazi witch hunt just convince me to support Hillary Clinton 100%. This country can not afford a Republican in the White House.
Ditto. Not with the excitement and inspiration I felt for PBO, but with gritty determination.
Free market and all…no better for him.

If there is, the thugs are withholding until the General Election; aim would be to depress the Black vote…
You, too!!
Good Morning BFF and TOD.
Here is something… This might be why he’s been married so many times.
Three racially offensive place names in New Zealand could be replaced under proposals put to the New Zealand Geographic Board (NZGB).
NZGB said a member of the public suggested changing the “discriminatory and derogatory” names of the places, all of which feature a racist term.
All three are in North Canterbury, in the Southern Alps on South Island.
The public will have three months to give their views on changing the titles of the remote areas.
