Good Afternoon Everyone! Happy Friday!!
It’s insane. The road leading out of my apartment has been closed for now. Barton Springs is completely flooded. Cars and trucks have been submerged Cops have come around and told us to stay inside. Some people tried driving out and the cops told all of us to stay indoors because all the access roads and main highways that connect you to a lot of places are flooded.
I-35 is flooded. They’ve shut down a huge section of the north and south parts of I-35. ABIA - Austin airport; all planes are grounded, things are shut down, no planes are coming in. 183, parts of Mopac, parts of Bee Caves are shut down. Highway 71 is shut down, Slaughter Lane is flooded.
They’re telling everyone in Onion Creek to seek higher ground within the next hour because they’re going to be trapped. San Marcos is a mess. Buda is a mess.
Damn.
Nerdy Wonka, you’re right down the street from me. Bastrop is flooding as we speak, and Austin is shut down.
I work in Bastrop and highway 95 might be flooded, and 290 might be as well. I might have to shelter in place.

GAWD I remember all those places when I lived in TX. Son used to live off Slaughter Lane. My lord, you stay safe Nerdy. Wished there was something I could do, even from MN. (((hugs))) to you and your neighbors. Son says no problems in Killeen area just drizzle.

First we had the fires in Bastrop a couple of weeks ago and now we have the floods.
Don our thoughts are with you, Nerdy and everyone else coming into contact with this flooding. Be safe and hope you have your food, supplies and are otherwise prepared for this. Thanks for keeping us posted!

Sec Kerry has been unrelenting in his insistence that no way Assad stays. I think he’ll prevail no matter how much Putin & the Iranians disagree because he has no reason to back down. Assad will take himself out of the scene as soon as he has adequate guarantees he and his family can party lavishly someplace (and not be assassinated) - several venues provide that type of refuge.

I heard a speaker once talk eloquently about how important a good leader is to an organization. When I say good I mean good. Thru and thru. The idea was that the entire organization would begin to reflect that great character, diligence and compassion. I think that is what is happening to the Democrats. I am not sure the Democrats understand that as a whole but we do.
Take that in reverse and I think I know what is happening to the GOP. They have embraced corrupt leaders for a long while now, perhaps starting with Nixon. Their entire organization has now become a shadow of what it once was. I think they are reaping what they have sown. Its not good for a group to have no accountability or weeding out of the grifters and dunces. It creates a very bad eco system in their group.

Hi Donna, thank you so much. I still have to call the gov’s office- frankly I did nothing today, called no one. Kind of just wanted to break from it today. My son is doing quite well, he has surprised me. So resilient our kids. However, I’m not done- will get back on the horse and call folks again Monday.

Hi Everyone! Mom, Dad, Roomie and I are at an organizing event for Hillary at Clark Atlanta University. Waiting for Kelly Price to sing, Grant Hill, Mayor Reed, some other folks to speak, then at some point Hillary will show up. Already a long frustrating waiting in line.
Mom and Dad got in early by tagging along when a busload of senior citizens rolled up. The CAU and Atlanta cops didn’t bother planning for any type of line control or organization. Several lines formed. One minute the cops split up students and general public into separate lines then they moved people who had been waiting for the longest to the back of the line. Really jacked up. Roomie, Sis and I stood in line for almost an hour before they shooed us to the opposite end of the same damned line. People who walked up 5 minutes before the gate opened got in before we did. A least Mom and Dad got in and seated comfortably.
The other 3 of finally got to the metal detectors when the cops announced there “standing room” only is left. My sis, a disabled vet who can’t stand for long periods of time just gave up and walked away. Roomie and I came in anyway and found Mom and Dad seated. Now we wait more.

I waited from 7am till the doors opened around 7pm for the 9pm rally for Senator Barack Obama in 2008. I was second in line and would have been incensed if I were moved to the back of the line after waiting there for hours. It may have been enough to become uninvolved with the campaign.

Just a thought, but every single rally, town hall, speaking engagement these candidates do, should include voter registration. They should also ALWAYS make it a point to talk about the importance of voting and what happens when you give up your voice in a democracy! Should happen each and every time until people get a clue.
The people wait in line FOR HOURS!! How many voter registrations could be completed in that time?????? Such a no brainer.

I agree with you, Prettyfoot! Black leaders kissed her husband’s ring, but Bill Clinton’s crime/ drug policies ended up incarcerating a record number of black people-especially young black males. A great many of these young people-millions of them- are now disfranchised for ever in many states. Moreover, Bill Clinton’s trade policies were a disaster to the Caribbean countries. I will NOT vote for Hillary Clinton in our CA primary election. But I will cover my nose and voter for her if she is the presidential nominee of the Democratic party.
