Early Bird Rise and Shine

On This Day - Pete Souza: “The President plays peek-a-boo with the daughter of White House staffer Emmett Beliveau in the Outer Oval Office. It’s interesting to note that this photograph was taken not long after the conclusion of his Afghanistan meeting in the Situation Room. So he went from this very substantive meeting to being able to lighten up for a minute with this young girl.” Oct. 30, 2009

Today

The President and the First Lady welcome local children and children of military families to trick-or-treat at the South Portico of the White House.

This is a good read, Africa. Thank you. Israel’s future as a respected democratic society depends on Netanyahu leaving the scene. He’s a relic of a barbaric past and seems to become more like Assad everyday in his ruthless disregard of life.

Morning TODers. Last night was “trick or treat” time in our town, so it seems today as if Halloween is over. As the little ones were flowing to our door, the guy next door positioned himself as a glowing eyed zombie which produced lots of screams from every kid under six and uncontrollable tears in a two-year old. I have lots of candy left over-wish I could share it with you.

    • October 30, 2025 at 9:08 am

      :-) I hope it’s healthy candy, Jackie!

Carrot sticks!!! If I handed out carrot sticks or raisins, I’d be stuck with them all because the trick or treaters would bypass my house the minute the word got out. If your kid has allergies, have the healthy snacks at home.

A couple of years ago, I handed out bags of pretzels (pre-packaged, of course!) that I thought were really great. Next day, found several of them in my bushes. :-) Back to chocolate the next year.

You might think that such revelations would be politically devastating. But the targets of such schemes know, just know, that the liberal mainstream media can’t be trusted, that when it reports negative stories about conservative heroes it’s just out to suppress people who are telling the real truth. It’s a closed information loop, and can’t be broken…

Keep Central Texas - example: Austin, San Marcos, Bastrop, etc. in your thoughts, TOD. We’re being hit with another major storm this year. We’ve had tornadoes this morning, major highways are flooded, streets are flooded, and they’ve begun evacuating people in some cities and small towns and shutting down roads.

It’s a frightening mess today because we’re right in the middle of everything.

At least 22 migrants - many of them children - have drowned trying to reach Kalymnos and Rhodes from Turkey, in the second major boat tragedy off Greek islands this week.

Greek officials said 19 people died and 138 were rescued near Kalymnos.

Three others died off Rhodes and three were missing. Six were rescued there.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said he felt “shame” over “the inability of Europe to deal effectively with this human drama”.

Speaking in parliament, the left-wing Syriza leader condemned the “level of debate at a senior level, where one is passing the buck to the other” in the EU.

    http://www.politicususa.com/2015/10/30/floridians-lawsuit-jeb-bush-rick-scott-kochs-scotus.html

It is nearly impossible to keep up with the dirty tricks and corruption being committed by Republicans on behalf of their masters the Koch brothers. This is particularly true in Republican states where it is not unusual for legislators, and often governors, work to assist the Kochs avoid environmental regulations and laws in exchange for campaign donations and electoral support. It is possible that even with America’s population mired in apathy and ignorance, exposing Republicans’ illegal activities, corruption, and collusion might better inform the error of supporting Republicans.

Fortunately, there is one specific instance of scandal, corruption, and subterfuge that allows the Kochs free rein to dump tons of toxic waste into a Florida river that is finally getting the exposure it warrants. After three years of legal battles, the legal battle is going to the Supreme Court to weigh in on a bona fide scandal in Florida that is likely typical in Republican states working hand-in-hand with the Kochs to sidestep environmental regulations.

After years of effort, there are finally results in an uphill battle to expose the environmental, and political, corruption which has been occurring in Tallahassee and Putnam County, Florida involving the Koch brothers, presidential candidate and former governor Jeb Bush, and current Governor Rick Scott. There are more players involved in the scandalous affair, but part of the corruption is Governor Rick Scott’s refusal to investigate the malfeasance involving his predecessor, his own administration, and his masters the Koch brothers.

It would be most likely that the only reason the GOP has funded the govt through to 2017 is that the few remaining same members don’t want to face an election with the public knowing that they closed down the government bringing grief to millions. If a democrat is elected President - watch them start the b.s. all over again.

BREAKING: More than 450 hospitals pay $250 million in cardiac-device investigation
    By Lisa Schencker | October 30, 2025
More than 450 hospitals have settled with the government for $250 million as part of a years-long, nationwide investigation into the suspected overuse of implantable cardiac devices, the U.S. Justice Department announced Friday.

The hospital systems involved include many of the country’s largest, such as Adventist, Ascension Health, Banner Health, Catholic Health Initiatives, Community Health Systems, HCA, Tenet Healthcare and Universal Health Services among others.

My uncle - aged 88 - had a doctor wanting to implant one of these because he said his heart had an irregular beat. He was all keen to do it instantly. Not my decision, but as I was with the uncle, I suggested he think about it & discuss it with other family members.

Uncle was still keen - went back 2 months later to sign up & the surgeon discovered the irregular had disappeared (probably related to a cold/flu during the first test).

Handling such a device at 88 years just seems a bridge too far for me. Guess it was good that the surgeon admitted the mis-diagnosis but one of the not so good things about universal health care for older folks seems to be way too much intervention/overuse of services.

VP Biden has a few words with Bernie and now read how ole Bern speaks about the Obama Administration…

Mr. Sanders, in a statement after the meeting, said, “Under the leadership of President Obama and Vice President Biden, this country has come a long way economically since President Bush left office and we were losing 800,000 jobs every month and the world economy was on the brink of financial collapse.”

“Nevertheless, we still have a long way to go to create the kind of economy that works for all Americans and not just the top 1 percent,” Mr. Sanders added. “I look forward to working with President Obama and Vice President Biden to tackle some to the major issues facing our country.”
