Gâmorning Chips, TOD, even amk, lurkers, and congrats Sir Don on #1! :) Happy Monday everyone. :)
Is our President going to make a major announcement on criminal justice reform this afternoon at Rutgers?
Morning Chips and TODers. Last nightâs ‘Salsa the Voteâ was larger, more lively and more successful than last yearâs. We had a good crowd, lots of people danced, the food was great and plentiful and, most of all, there seemed to be real enthusiasm for our candidates. At one point, someone asked those who intended to vote on Tuesday to stand and everyone in the room rose and clapped. My poor husband, recovering from the flu and looking ashen, said to me that if people didnât see this as the future they were blind. At this point the Hispanic Initiative that Mr. G and I started together in 2012 has taken on a life of its own and is really ready to be passed on to a completely Latino leadership. I suspect that both the Salsa the Vote and the summer Fiesta Latina are going to become recognized events that people will anticipate and other counties will copy. Weâve worked very, very hard in these last years, but it has been so worth it to see the connection grow between Latinos and Democrats. Many Latinos in our county who could once not even tell the difference between the parties, now see the Dems as the good guys who really reach out and care about them. Iâm exhausted, but really happy with whatâs happening here.
Such great news! SO glad that this was even better than last year and that people seem to be engaged and paying more attention…they BETTER VOTE EVERY TIME! The exhaustion is worth everything if this becomes an annual event that educates and engages. Proud of both of you:) ALL of you! You did good:)
Thanks, Df. I think what weâve shown is that anyone who cares enough can do this in their county. If you wait for an “institution” like the local Democratic party to do this, it wonât happen. The energy for change has to come from individual people who really want to to get something started and arenât scared of the work involved.
I understand…and agree:) You want something done, do it yourself or you could be waiting forever….been there! SO proud of you for noticing this issue needed to be addressed and just getting it done. You are a true example for organizing in your community to make it a better place.
Woot! You can say that again jg! So glad to hear how well your event and especially about the enthusiasm of everyone there
A couple if things struck me as odd about the Hillary event in Atlanta the other day: Georgia state rep Stacey Abrams very powerfully spoke about there being 700,000 people in Georgia who are eligible bur unregistered to vote - 500,000 of them people of color. Here we were at a rally for the person mostly likely (at least for now) to win the Dem nomination and there was no conspicuous presence of the State Democratic Party - no table of people signing folks up to volunteer or to register to vote, not even any Dem Party signs.
I saw a few flyers being passed out about voter registration but not among the lines where mostly students were standing or to anyone sitting in the gym. Youâd think at the very least theyâd have signs plastered all over with the URL for online registration and/or lists of places you can go to do it in person. Why arenât there PSAs about this blasted all over radio and TV?
Agreed and made a comment to that effect when you posted from the venue…ALL of these town halls and speaking engagements should have tables for VOTER REGISTRATION TO HAPPEN! This isnât hard to do. I have registered voters countless times! This is really a no brainer…wtf is the disconnect here??!! Perfect time to do this….and those candidates need to ALWAYS speak about the responsibility of voting and what happens when you donât!~
The disconnect is between the local party and the campaign. If the local party fails to get its act together, the campaign has been to be organized enough to step in, meaning it has to get the appropriate state registration forms, learn the deadlines and have enough knowledge to answer basic questions about state voting requirements. Hillary needs to start making this SOP, especially in states with early primaries.
This is how it was with the President …here in Philadelphia…there was a big disconnect….he had to create his own structure….the DEM party structure is afraid of the grass roots…they want to keep power in their own hands…
GM Dudette, good question to email to DWS
Dudette, that is the very reason why the Obama campaign bypassed the Democratic Party and set up their own registration tables at every event. In every county, the campaign came in and created a registration and GOTV structure that was separate from the party structure. If a local party worked with the campaign, everyone won, but some people resented the intrusion on their turf and wouldnât cooperate. The O campaign succeeded by not letting the Dem party structure impede it and Hillary is going to have to replicate this pattern if she wants to succeed. I believe the reason why mid term elections arenât successful for Dems is because they must rely on state and local parties to do the work, since itâs only the big national, well funded campaigns that can afford the enormous cost of a multi-tiered ground staff.
This!!!!
Great explanation! TYđ
thissssssssssssssssssssssssss a million times
thank you for your work on this.
Thank you for your great work!
Amazing! What a great report, and what tremendous work youâve done! Thank you so much for all this!
Seriously:) Going to be a lot of THAT going on today!! Good!! Iâm not surprised by any one of them (that we know so far) and their relationship to the KKK.
Me neither df! Thing is the way given the current climate I wonder if the exposure would really hurt them enough to get them thrown out of office.
who knows if it would hurt/help them. Flipping scary. It SHOULD disqualify them!!
jeb?
If the DNC had any spine at all they would put an actual ad for TV viewing out that said this. Iâve been saying for over a year now that we have to educate the public in a P.S.A type of way. This would be the perfect 30 second ad.

OBAMA BANS THE BOX
By Ari Melber
—————————-
On Monday, President Obama is announcing a new order to reduce potential discrimination against former convicts in the hiring process for federal government employees and contractors.
It is a step towards what many criminal justice reformers call âban the boxâ â the effort to eliminate requirements that job applicants check a box on their applications if they have a criminal record. While the rule was once seen as a common sense way for employers to screen for criminal backgrounds, it has been increasingly criticized as a hurdle that fosters employment discrimination against former inmates, regardless of the severity of their offense or how long ago it occurred. Banning the box delays when employers learn of an applicantâs record.
.
.
The President is announcing several other measures Monday, including public housing and money for re-entry programs, and he is speaking about prison reform in a speech and an exclusive interview with NBC Nightly News Anchor Lester Holt.

I got into a heated argument with a lawyer friend of mine, he does criminal law and constantly complains that President Obama hasnât done anything about mass incarceration or helping convicts get jobs, this bit of news should shut his pie hole for the foreseeable future.
I agree with Ban the Box
Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family.
Congrats Don on First!
YAY to JackieG on the successful turnout!!!
Is it a real denial about klan association? Who?
What a great Monday! Iâm off tomorrow and Wednesday, the Cowboys loss yesterday and the Miami Heat won. And to make my day even greater Anonymous is outing KKK members.
Thank you Bernie Sanders for making President Obama “Ban the Box.”
Yes, anything progressive that PBO does or Hillary proposes is because they are mimicking Bernie.
Good morning TOD.
Yesterday I wrote that CNN covered the story of the 6,000 prisoners getting early release today Without mentioning POTUS once!!! Itâs his initiative!
This morning the NY Times short article on page 10 needs 8 paragraphs before a passing mention of The President when they discuss todayâs historic releases..
The good work that President Obama continues to do is going to be kept out of the view of the American people as much as the media finds it possible it seems.
All that will get attention is the People Magazine and National Enquirer type of celbritynews/gossip/bullshit that fills the air and column inches.
Dumb America—-worse every day.
If my you see my name on the list of KKK members, Iâm sorry, I was young and naĂŻve and I thought it was a good way to get girls.
Ha!
Iâm constantly amazed that Bobby Jindal continues to do dumb shit like cut funding for Planned Parenthood. I only hope that this a part of some sort of grand plan heâs working on, because if not heâs just lost and confused.
I canât imagine any “grand plan” that includes defunding PP would do anything but causes anything but misery and death for a lot of poor and disadvantaged people. So in my book, plan or no plan, heâs definitely lost and confused.
Because, when the judge asked for the receipts for where these women would go for their healthcare, they gave him some bullshyt list, not thinking that the judge has a staff that would VERIFY that the people on the list could be legitimate providers……
the judge found chiropractors and dentists and all sorts of folks that didnât qualify.
The judge then pointed this out, and asked for a list of LEGITIMATE PROVIDERS that could be used as alternates to Planned Parenthood.
The list returned had less than 50 names on it.
thus…THIS!
IT LOOKS LIKE OUR ENERGIIZER PBO HAS A PRETYY FULL SCHEDULE TODAY…IâM OFF TO THE DENTIST AND OF COURSE TAKING LOTS OF SWEETS SO THEY GET CAVITIES FOR A CHANGE. MY DENTIST LOVE IT…JOB SECURITY…………..ADIOS EVERYONE!
john oliver on more important elections happening tomorrow
http://www.rawstory.com/2015/11/john-oliver-destroys-lying-hypocritical-gop-idiot-who-wants-to-gut-medicaid/
Iâve got to catch this guyâs show, all the reviews I hear about him are glowing. I just hope he doesnât fall into the John Stewart trap, where he sits behind a desk and sends out edicts on how shit should be done.
And speaking of Jon Stewart, I see heâs opening up an animal sanctuary. Hey, I like animals, and animals need protection. But this guy spent his entire career mocking politicians about their different positions. This guy walked around like he was the fucking grand poohbah and he had all the fucking answers when it came to politics. The way he was talking it gave the impression that once he left tv he has going to join the fight. But no, this guy runs to New Jersey and opens up an animal sanctuary. Once again, I love animals and they need protecting, but if youâre going to talk a good game at least get in the game when the chance arises.
Good link amk!
Voters in Kentucky should be aware of this candidate. As we all should do, really take time to read up on our candidates history, it will predict how they will operate in the future.
Damn! I thought for sure Bernie Sanders would tell them not to do it and they would have listened to him.
He certainly expected every college student in the country to fill the streets yelling “Revolution!” and the GOP would be scared into progressive submission.
If a politicians name ended up on the KKK list, no fears, theyâll probably find a black friend to parade around town touting their friendship.
No doubt
Need some cuteness
as someone here brilliantly suggested, dnc should publicly state that they are willing to take the debate dates the thugs have refused. show them for the cowardly bullies that they are.
Absolutely! Campaign ad bonanza!
ABSOLUTELY!! Another NO BRAINER
The Dems have to leap at this offer—the chance to reach the Telemundo audience in a bonus town hall is the equivalent of hitting the jackpot several times over. We have the advantage with Latinos on every single issue. We need to make that loud and clear now before the Republicans start touting Rubio as their Latino savior.
Oh, I thought Telemundo loved the GOP and that the GOP represented everything that Telemundo wanted in a party. Sorry, Telemundo, the GOP just isnât that into you, they just told you what you wanted to hear just to get your votes.
yup, the stench from both stinks.
for a perspective, one of our economically weaker states (fuck the corrupt pols from that state) is having polls for state govt in 5 phases spread over a month. after the 4th phase, average turnout was about 60%.
I have absolutely no problem with the way Trump and the GOP are treating the Networks. These are the same Networks that have disrespected President Obama in every interview he has ever granted them. I hope Trump and the GOP charges them a fee just to cover the debates
Fine with me too. The less national coverage the assholes get the quicker that partyâs demise.
yup, even now the cowards donât have the guts to call out the thugs.

More Krugman…with some facts:)
Good Morning BFF and TOD.
Good morning TOD folks! A smiling PBO…What a wonderful pic to start my day. Thanks Chips.

Hay Bo. I think Bo is not tired from the extra inning, he was just hoping it would be the Chicago Cubs hat he would be wearing.

Reading that story…woman was CONNED, and still, after all these years, wonât live up to that she was part of the CON.
President Obama doing his own Obama 3rd term:
I agree, meta, President Obama is setting the agenda for his 3rd term.
Heâs so way ahead of the pack, as always. The candidates are announcing big plans for this and that only to have PBO tick them off his own list. RESULTS, baby.
Good morning….I trust all you ladies have your naughty mats at the ready. :-)

Yes, there are givers and takers out there.
And we know whoâs who!
LOL. linus even forgot his blanket.
Twitter truth
They didnât have to pay because at that time the soul patrol to too busy calling Bill Clinton the first black President.
Preach
Hollah!
florida seems to be the worst cesspool of pols that numbnutz actually elect to rule over them.
amk, I was born and raised in Florida, Miami to be exact. You are correct, Florida is a cesspool of corruption and graft. I mean if youâre a politician that hasnât been caught taking a bribe you arenât trying. Sessions arenât so much as “sit-downs.”
the convicted felon of govnor got elected twice. ânuff said.
I thought he already saw “Hamilton?”

The Texas county where only 12 people signed up for Obamacare
Why the uninsured in Borden County may stay that way as the health lawâs third enrollment season begins.
11/02/15 05:11 AM EST
GAIL, Texas â In rural Borden County, 12 people signed up for Obamacare this year.
Livid over the government telling them they must buy something and loath to take anything that looks like a âhandout,â the uninsured here are likely to stay that way. As Obamacareâs third open enrollment season began Sunday, this rock-solid conservative community of about 650 people offers a window into the challenges health law advocates face to expand coverage around the country.
âHealth care is fine, if you can afford it,â said Brenda Copeland, a middle-aged woman who works at the Coyote Country Store and cafĂŠ, along with her two grown daughters, all of whom are uninsured. Copeland has had health insurance only once in her life, and opted to pay Obamacareâs tax penalty earlier this year rather than buy a plan.
âI hope Obamacare goes down the toilet,â she added.

Fuckâem!
reminds me the story of god and the moron who got marooned despite god trying to help him in many ways.
Until her or one of her daughters get breast cancer or something then they will want a “Gofundme” account begging for help. I guess going to the emergency room for healthcare suits these people just fine. When the businesses and their workerâs insurance and deductibles skyrockets it is because of these folks.
