OMG, Chips - Just got chills looking at all of these memories in photos - thank you, thank you!

Just heard our duly elected two-term President Obama will speak at 11:45 Eastern about Keystone, and the word is that he’ll be declining their gracious offer to run their pipeline through the U.S. Since I just got here, I’m sure you already know this, but, hey. And Secretary Kerry will be by his side, another bonus.

Love the President! Love his Administration!

The us media is wired for republican party and capitalism. I laugh at the claim that ‘progressives’ like rachel maddow and her ilk are for dems. No one is. The fourth estate are truly the fifth columnists.

You can run, but you can’t hide! From the bottom of the last…

Been a busy and interesting week. Had a life comes full circle episode this week. To accommodate working the polls on Tuesday, I changed my infusion to Monday. The nurse noticed my Marine Corps jacket and mentioned her late Mom had been a Marine during the Korean War. Told her to sent me her Mom’s info and I’d see if I could locate any of her Mom’s platoon sisters. Later in the morning we were talking about Halloween; I mentioned living in a small town — turns out her Mom grew up in my very town. She gave the family name and while it sounded vaguely familiar, I didn’t know the family. When my Mom picked me up, I forgot to ask if she knew them. Thought about it at the polls on Tuesday and asked one of the older residents if she recalled the family. OMG, not only had she been friends with the kids in the family, she caused me to recall that I knew the nurse’s grandmother and great-grandmother! They lived down the street and around the corner, a few blocks from me.

The family was Indian (Native American); the big kids in the neighborhood told me not to go near their house because they would scalp me. Mind you, I was a rather precocious child, outspoken and fearless; my nickname was “Mouth Almighty” and my favorite question was “Why.” As I was curious and didn’t believe the big kids (I was like 4 or 5), one day while they were in school I marched my little self over to the house, knocked on the door told the lady the scalping rumor and that I didn’t believe it and that if they were “real” Indians I wanted to know them. They invited me in for milk and cookies. I don’t remember the conversation, but afterwards they walked me home to my grandmother.

Looking forward to my next treatment, not only will I be able to put her in contact with a childhood friend of her Mom, I’ll be able to tell her of the great-grand and grandmother’s kindness to me. Full circle… :-)

    ……………….

Ben Carson Appeals to Black Voters, but His Campaign Doesn’t, Yet
    By JONATHAN MARTIN
    NOV. 5, 2015

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — Sam Hawkins Jr. said he came to a rally here last week for the Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson because he finds Mr. Carson’s social conservatism appealing, relishes his newness to politics and believes that President Obama “sold out for the vote” in supporting same-sex marriage.

    …………………

Mr. Carson, a retired doctor who recently surged to first place in some national polls, is trying to solidify his lead in the volatile race for the Republican presidential nomination. To do so, his campaign is eyeing a group of voters who are traditionally scarce in Republican primaries but who could give him added support the other candidates are unlikely to draw: African-Americans, such as Mr. Hawkins.

    …………..

He could do something for the country that has not been done for a long time: give American blacks an option in the primary,” said Armstrong Williams, Mr. Carson’s closest adviser, referring to black voters’ habit of largely participating only in Democratic politics.

Yet if Mr. Carson’s potential for bringing black voters into the Republican primary illustrates a unique possibility, his efforts to win them over highlight his limitations as a candidate. Though he raised over $20 million during the third quarter of this year and primary votes will be cast in less than three months, his campaign operation has not caught up to his standing in the race. He has, for example, yet to hire a staff member dedicated to turning out black voters.

You want to know why President Obama will always have a place in the hearts of African Americans. It’s because on many occasions in his life he has been the only African American in the room and he has never forgotten that fact or shied away from it. He has always cared about issues that have specifically affected African Americans. You don’t walk up into a Federal Prison and sit with inmates if you didn’t give a fuck about their rehabilitation. Your first two Attorney Generals aren’t African Americans if you don’t give a fuck about African Americans. President Obama isn’t the type of black man that goes along just to get along; everything he has ever done has been for the black and the brown. I say this not to alienate those that are not black or brown, but more so to say that President Obama has been what we have been waiting for.

Old white lady here, and I endorse every word you wrote!

He’s chosen the harder road, but he is not a man to step back from challenges- that’s his integrity and wisdom in action. He’s who African Americans have been waiting for, yes- I trust and believe you completely in this.

And he’s also who all who love justice and progress have been waiting for, not just in America, but all over the world. There will never be another like him, but I’m so glad he’s set the high bar for all those who follow.

meta - The only reasons I’m slowly “getting over it” are first that Joe Biden will not be the TARGET of the RWNJ candidate and the media and the bozos in the country who would have gone after that fine man, were he to run … and the fact I have convinced myself that Joe talked the whole thing over with the President, many times, and possibly even the President said “if you don’t run, I’d be the first one to understand.” I think the latter’s counsel was invaluable and heartfelt.

That’s how I’m working through the pain of it! And I’ll be seeking to support both of them, after January 2017, in any way I can, as well.

I think Joe is a very tough guy and could handle whatever gets thrown his way. But he needed to gear up his campaign about a year and a half ago, right about the time Beau was diagnosed. So although I know in my heart that fate is the thing that worked against him, and that he tried in a valiant way to grapple honestly and deliberately with the decision in recent months, I held out hope for a sort of miracle because I believe in him and his ability to be POTUS more than any of the other candidates, by a MILE. But I am doing my best to reconcile myself to the truth and the reality of what is happening to the Democratic Party. And hoping for a way to be of service to him and PBO as we bid them farewell from the White House.

The lovely and talented Jude Schimmel on the left is revered in Oregon for her storied basketball career in high school and college and for being such a great role model.

As we all could have predicted:
In the face of Sensational Economic News the RW Propaganda Press is whining about “participation rate” which is a go-to metric they use when the measuring systems we all understand make fools and liars of them.

Bravo Dems and Obama Administration. More of us working and bringing home higher paychecks.

Thank you for the dearest memories in life as a proud Democrat.

Stay strong in light of the prospect of a THE DONALD nominee. We’ll get through that and emerge victor on the other side.

          One more…

This is the opposite of surprising. MSM leaped at opportunity to accuse PBO of handwringing, hard choice when TransCanada announced they wanted approval (hah!) delayed last week.

But the obvious action by President #BucketList Obama would be to end this notion altogether. Let GOP campaign on losing platform of no medical coverage for pre-existing conditions (etc.) and building a pipeline that US assumes virtually all environmental risk with microscopic benefit.

We will never forget how hard we worked together to re-elect Obama-Biden. These photos bring back such joyful/exhausting memories of running a GOTV staging area out of our house for the last 5 days of Oregon’s vote-by-mail system. Sweet sweet victory!

Good morning y’all. Please accept this lengthy contribution and I’m done.

Nostalgia! The real theme of the Republican Party

    All over again

Well, the first thing I want to say is…”Mandate my ass!”
Because it seems as though we’ve been convinced that 26% of the registered voters, not even 26% of the American people, but 26% of the registered voters form a mandate ? or a landslide. 21% voted for Skippy and 3, 4% voted for somebody else who might have been running.

But, oh yeah, I remember. In this year that we have now declared the year from Shogun to Reagan, I remember what I said about Reagan…meant it. Acted like an actor…Hollyweird. Acted like a liberal. Acted like General Franco when he acted like governor of California, then he acted like a republican. Then he acted like somebody was going to vote for him for president. And now we act like 26% of the registered voters is actually a mandate. We’re all actors in this I suppose.

What has happened is that in the last 20 years, America has changed from a producer to a consumer. And all consumers know that when the producer names the tune…the consumer has got to dance. That’s the way it is. We used to be a producer ? very inflexible at that, and now we are consumers and, finding it difficult to understand. Natural resources and minerals will change your world. The Arabs used to be in the 3rd World. They have bought the 2nd World and put a firm down payment on the 1st one. Controlling your resources will control your world. This country has been surprised by the way the world looks now. They don’t know if they want to be Matt Dillon or Bob Dylan. They don’t know if they want to be diplomats or continue the same policy - of nuclear nightmare diplomacy. John Foster Dulles ain’t nothing but the name of an airport now.

The idea concerns the fact that this country wants nostalgia. They want to go back as far as they can ? even if it’s only as far as last week. Not to face now or tomorrow, but to face backwards. And yesterday was the day of our cinema heroes riding to the rescue at the last possible moment. The day of the man in the white hat or the man on the white horse - or the man who always came to save America at the last moment ? someone always came to save America at the last moment ? especially in “B” movies. And when America found itself having a hard time facing the future, they looked for people like John Wayne. But since John Wayne was no longer available, they settled for Ronald Reagan ? and it has placed us in a situation that we can only look at ? like a “B” movie.

Come with us back to those inglorious days when heroes weren’t zeros. Before fair was square. When the cavalry came straight away and all-American men were like Hemingway to the days of the wondrous “B” movie. The producer underwritten by all the millionaires necessary will be Casper “The Defensive” Weinberger ? no more animated choice is available. The director will be Attila the Haig, running around frantically declaring himself in control and in charge. The ultimate realization of the inmates taking over at the asylum. The screenplay will be adapted from the book called “Voodoo Economics” by George “Papa Doc” Bush. Music by the “Village People” the very military “Macho Man.”

    “Company!!!”
    “Macho, macho man!”
    “Two-three-four.”
“He likes to be ? well, you get the point.”
“Huuut! Your left! Your left! Your left…right, left, right, left, right…!”

A theme song for saber-rallying and selling wars door-to-door. Remember, we’re looking for the closest thing we can find to John Wayne. Cliches abound like kangaroos ? courtesy of some spaced out Marlin Perkins, a Reagan contemporary. Cliches like, “itchy trigger finger” and “tall in the saddle” and “riding off or on into the sunset.” Cliches like, “Get off of my planet by sundown!” More so than cliches like, “he died with his boots on.” Marine tough the man is. Bogart tough the man is. Cagney tough the man is. Hollywood tough the man is. Cheap steak tough. And Bonzo’s substantial. The ultimate in synthetic selling: A Madison Avenue masterpiece ? a miracle ? a cotton-candy politician…Presto! Macho!

    “Macho, macho man!”

Put your orders in America. And quick as Kodak your leaders duplicate with the accent being on the dupe - cause all of a sudden we have fallen prey to selective amnesia - remembering what we want to remember and forgetting what we choose to forget. All of a sudden, the man who called for a blood bath on our college campuses is supposed to be Dudley “God-damn” Do-Right?

“You go give them liberals hell Ronnie.” That was the mandate. To the new “Captain Bly” on the new ship of fools. It was doubtlessly based on his chameleon performance of the past - as a liberal democrat ? as the head of the Studio Actor’s Guild. When other celluloid saviors were cringing in terror from McCarthy ? Ron stood tall. It goes all the way back from Hollywood to hillbilly. From liberal to libelous, from “Bonzo” to Birch idol…born again. Civil rights, women’s rights, gay rights…it’s all wrong. Call in the cavalry to disrupt this perception of freedom gone wild. God damn it…first one wants freedom, then the whole damn world wants freedom.

Nostalgia, that’s what we want…the good ol’ days…when we gave’em hell. When the buck stopped somewhere and you could still buy something with it. To a time when movies were in black and white ? and so was everything else. Even if we go back to the campaign trail, before six-gun Ron shot off his face and developed hoof-in-mouth. Before the free press went down before full-court press. And were reluctant to review the menu because they knew the only thing available was ? Crow.

Lon Chaney, our man of a thousand faces - no match for Ron. Doug Henning does the make-up - special effects from Grecian Formula 16 and Crazy Glue. Transportation furnished by the David Rockefeller of Remote Control Company. Their slogan is, “Why wait for 1984? You can panic now…and avoid the rush.”

So much for the good news…

As Wall Street goes, so goes the nation. And here’s a look at the closing numbers ? racism’s up, human rights are down, peace is shaky, war items are hot - the House claims all ties. Jobs are down, money is scarce ? and common sense is at an all-time low with heavy trading. Movies were looking better than ever and now no one is looking because, we’re starring in a “B” movie. And we would rather have John Wayne…we would rather have John Wayne.

“You don’t need to be in no hurry.
You ain’t never really got to worry.
And you don’t need to check on how you feel.
Just keep repeating that none of this is real.
And if you’re sensing, that something’s wrong,
Well just remember, that it won’t be too long
Before the director cuts the scene…yea.”

    “This ain’t really your life,
    Ain’t really ain’t nothing but a movie.”

The Obama effect: An education in hope and change
    November 6 at 10:00 AM

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Barack Obama started out as homework at Ludlum Elementary, an idea by teachers in 2008 to turn the upcoming election into a year-long lesson plan. But the school’s mostly black and Hispanic students quickly came to see themselves in Obama. His message of change became a rallying cry for their own lives in this town plagued by drugs, gangs and violence.

So after the election — before he could even be sworn in — the children persuaded officials here to make theirs the first school in America to be named after Obama.

“It was the best moment of my life. It was like we became linked,” said Teonte Jackson, who was then in the fifth grade. “Just as Obama was making history as the first black president, we were making history by becoming the first school named after him.”

To the nation, Obama’s election was a historic and cultural milestone, an electrifying moment when the seemingly impossible became real. Over time, however, the intensity and promise of that moment has faded, giving way to a more nuanced reality.

For students at Barack Obama Elementary, the election cut especially deep. Obama reoriented their sense of race and mobility in complicated, and at times confusing, ways. He is the only president most of them have ever known. Growing up under the shadow of Obama’s name, some have worried whether they have adequately lived up to it. Others have puzzled over what it represents.

But its most lasting effect has been their struggle to reconcile the hope they once felt as children with the reality they now see around them as teenagers.
