There once was a candidate named Benjamin
Who lost his cool, every now and thenjamin
Blamed the liberal media, as it stands
Slapped its faces with his Gifted Hands
Give up the run, stick with medicine, Benjamin.

You sure you want Carson sticking with medicine - pediatric medicine? I say it’s time he ALSO retires from the public sphere to take care of himself.

It’s blissful to have this year’s elections behind us with no tasks to perform, or calls to make. Yet my inbox is filling up with urgent pleas from the DCCC and the infamous Dick Schumer to try to get me worked up and fretful about 2016. The problem in the US is that election anxiety is ginned up to be constant and at a fever pitch and it’s one of the reasons why so many people burn out or get sick of politics. It isn’t just money that corrupts US politics its the fact that it never ends. It’s the same spirit that says I need to worry about Christmas before it’s Halloween. When did Americans stop learning to enjoy the moment?

jackie, Thanks a million for all you do! Glad you can “take a breath.” I agree 1000% with your comments about our politics/elections and love the comment about living in the moment.

Good and blessed day wished to all. We are off to church, then a busy afternoon as we host our Life Group (small group) tonight. Have most of the work done, but last minute things tend to take over.

I join in thanking you for all your election-year(s) efforts, jackieG!

“Enjoy the moment.” What a concept!

And what great advice for all of us. Thank you, again!

^5 ^5 - as soon as big dark money recognized exactly how to burn people out, that is when. They do not want the electorate to remain interested and involved, so they can do as they please and blame it on us.

Ben Carson and the Tale of Redemption

    By Kevin Drun

    —————————————————

Are these embellishments unnecessary? Sure. But Carson knows his audience. Serious evangelicals really, really want to hear a story about sin and redemption. That requires two things. First, Carson needs to have been a bad kid. Second, redemption needs to have truly turned his life around. He was already a student smart enough to get into Yale, so he needs more.

That’s where these stories come in. He needs to exaggerate how violent he was when he was young. And after he finds God, he needs to exaggerate how great everything turned out. This culminates in the absurd story about his psychology class. No one who’s not an evangelical Christian would believe it for a second. But evangelicals hear testimonies like this all the time. They expect testimonies like this, and the more improbable the better. So Carson gives them one. It’s clumsy because he’s not very good at inventing this kind of thing, but that doesn’t matter much.

    Good morning, TOD

A few random thoughts. As Don reported yesterday and TheHill is concern trolling, it looks like a Guantanamo announcement from PBO is imminent. I plan to enjoy the spectacle of the GOP flailing and failing against POTUS. No, they never learn.

VP Biden, when getting sustained applause this weekend, told the audience to “stop or I might change my mind.”
Yes, I know it was a joke.

And last, When Bibi arrives on our shores, instead of a WH meeting I wish he’d be handed over to The Hague and asked about whether imprisoning 1.8 million people endlessly is a war crime.
How about bulldozing their factories that provide food?
Or the destruction of 6,000 housing units and then forbidding building materials to enter Gaza?
Instead, the media is focused on “forgiving.”
I hope President Obama can show the world how small and ugly Bibi is.

      November 8, 2025 at 11:47 am

from what you know of PM Modi, is he capable of learning the correct lessons from these results?

can he and his team focus their work on things that matter most in the lives of ordinary people?

do you expect the whipping up of religious differences to tamper down after this?

or is this wishful thinking on my part?

The prime ministership needs a statesman, not a politician, and 18 months into the job Modi is yet to learn the difference between the two.

            /

Modi can thus do with taking more than a leaf from his friend Barack’s book on how a national leader lends an assuring voice to a troubled populace.

What happens when one unintentionally wakes up at oh-dark-thirty, feeling rested as though she’d slept until noon, and she slowly starts paying attention to the world like a prairie dog’s head poppin’ out of the desert floor.

I saw a quote, an old adage, something like “All things are difficult before they are easy,” attributed to the writer Thomas Fuller. Went to wiki, and confirmed it. While there, I found this introduction he wrote … still laughing because this is from the 18th c., and here in the 21st c., we just call it “SpellCheck.”

“Good Reader, I suspect I may have written some Things twice ; if not the same in Words, yet in Sense, which I desire you to pass by favourably ; forasmuch as you may well think, it was as difficult and dull a Thing for me, in so great a Number of independent Sentences, to find out the Repetitions, as it would be in a vast Heap of different Coins and Medals, confusedly thrown together, to pick out here and there one that bore the same and like Inscription, with some other among them. Besides the Pains, such a Search would cost me more Time, than I can afford it ; for my Glass of Life running now low, I must not suffer one Sand to fall in waste, nor spend one Minute in picking of Straws. And moreover, my aged Eyes being grown weak and dim, I fear they will become quite dark, by much perusing and poring ; or at least so far, so as to render me unable to perfect several Papers now lying by me, which I would willingly make a Present of to you.”

Okay, I’ll stop. :) See ya later!

Here I am again, and with a little less guilt. I deserve a medal I think. :D Why? Remember earlier I wasn’t planning on doing any chores because I didn’t feel like it? Well I actually washed my tiny kitchen floor, and since I was ‘on a roll’ washed the hallway floor too, and put away one load of laundry! Now I can really chill out with an almost guilt-free mind. :D :D Yea, Sunday!
