These terrorists are evil incarnate. Unfathomable. And even more unfathomable: the people who come from Europe, the U.S. and other countries to join them.
Thank you for saying what we’re all thinking. I’d settle for even an hour of empathy and graciousness from Americans. What do we always have to show our ugliest side to the world. Thank God for our President.
HuffPo posts tweets from major U.S. and international politicos . All very appropriate and generous.
Until this one from Marco Rubio “Praying for victims of attacks in Paris and for those reportedly held hostage.”
Reportedly. Because the media, ya know, might be saying there are hostages, but that doesn’t mean ol’ Rubio is going to believe it, and neither should you.
In my mind none of this would have happened if GWB had kicked Cheney’s ass and listen to the CIA plus kept his ass ouy of Iraq. Just sayin’! :evil:
Discussing with my daughter sailor - exactly what you said - when GWB went into Iraq - the middle east fell apart - what mindless dumb a..hole recommended this has caused massive repercussions throughout the world.
Thus said - the govt of my country is treating refugees in a manner no-one should ever be treated - tis no wonder it is a breeding ground for hate.
I wonder how the rwnj nut jobs are gonna “Take their country back” from this?….I know….All y’all migrate to KY, MS, AL & TX and build some fences with alligator filled moats.
don’t know how many others here feel to overwhelmed by the emotions that you begin to feel physical pain in the heart - although in reality nothing is really medically wrong with your heart;
a short while back, I could have swore to anyone that I was having a heart attack - nothing like that in reality but just a throbbing pain that is still there under my rib cage;
we have to hold each other up and stand in solidarity with the French people and other nationalities who were in Paris as events unfolded
I’m not sure what is meant by this tweet, but it’s certainly worth considering that ISIS attacks in Beirut yesterday may be related to the ones in Paris. This article talks about ‘sleeper cells’ activating in response to other attacks. Not so much a set of coordinated events, but spontaneous reactions. http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2015/11/lebanon-isis-problem-is-out-of-control.html
I can’t help but agree that this is the foreign policy equivalent of Bush’s Katrina. The result of Katrina was death, displacement and economic chaos.Fortunately the people there were American citizens and were able to finally get some help from other Americans, and there was no power vaccuum. The Iraqis/Syrians and others weren’t so lucky. There were no more homes and not much help either.
As bad as Saddam was, he kept the peace and dealt with fanatics like the ones in Paris-often quite forcefully. They were enemies of his state, and he kept them repressed. The result was that Iraqis could lead a normal life for the most part. Same thing that we are finding out about Assad. Again, Assad kept the peace and enough Syrians were able to lead a normal life. Again, no ISIS/ISIL possible.
My SoCal TODers: If you have Time Warner Cable, you have access to BBC World, France 24 English, and Al Jazeera America. Recommend those over the usual suspects.
Didn’t think the Wilson Institute was full-on neocon, but…
Scrap Vienna Syria meeting; focus shldn't be on diplomacy; G-20 shld coordinate international military response. Focus not Assad but ISIS

Also know nothing about the tweeter; his twitter bio:
VP & Distinguished Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Fmr. Middle East negotiator under Republican & Democratic administrations.
I had turned my tv on earlier today. MSNBC came on with Brian Wms reporting about the Paris attacks. When I noticed they were just repeating the same things over and over I turned the station to CBS finding they were reporting it also. In those reports I heard that Donald Trump had tweeted something that mentioned France’s strict gun control and where it got them. It also said that France’s ambassador in the US was insulted and responded. I have listened to hear it again, but have not heard it since then. Anyone here heard anything about this?
But Newt Gingrich was carrying the torch.
“Newt Gingrich tweeted that concealed carry permits could have prevented the hostage crisis at Paris’s Bataclan theater.
Gingrich also tied the attack to Syrian refugees, though there is no evidence they have anything to do with it.
Gingrich isn’t the first to to link terrorism and gun control. During January’s attacks on Charlie Hebdo and the kosher supermarket, Donald Trump also tweeted about France’s gun control policies.”
Guess that is why I did not hear anything further about Donald’s tweet. I must have just changed the station not hearing anything about the tweet being in January. Thanks for filling in the blanks.
What’s different about this attack? A security expert on France24 just laid it out: the attack on soft targets. You can’t protect soft targets. People were warning that this was where AQ / ISIL would head. And it’s where we are.
Of course, same security expert went on to say that the communities from which these people arise need to “stand up” and cooperate with security services. So. Blame the Mooslims.
When will the people stand up FOR this community? When Charlie Hebrow dissed their religion no one stood up and called it wrong. The people stood with CH.
There is going to be 24×7 rw hysteria and their screaming ‘solutions’ propagated through out the emmessem for the entire week. Best to ignore them and not get sucked into that craziness.
I am so grateful that we have President Obama to guide us in these dangerous times. We have been blessed by his wisdom, courage and compassion. The stories about 9/11 are horrifying but not surprising.
Thank you all for a sane place to get the news. I have been at work, thank goodness it’s a sports bar so no news was on, but I was lurking at TOD. I am so heart sick I don’t know what to say. Except my prayers are with France and all the victims.
A Hello!
Hello!
I’ve only just got home to hear this devastating news. I really have no other words.
Maryl, it’s times like these when I’m bereft of words, so I wander in and out searching for moments of relief from the madness.
Jesus.
These terrorists are evil incarnate. Unfathomable. And even more unfathomable: the people who come from Europe, the U.S. and other countries to join them.
Excellent tweet, Chips. Where there are hate-filled racist hearts, there is no logic.
Still first? I can’t imagine the horror the refugees have been through and are confining to suffer through.
Congratulations Maryl1. Horrendous time for France.
Thank you, Judith. It’s hard to take in.
Hear hear!
Thank you for saying what we’re all thinking. I’d settle for even an hour of empathy and graciousness from Americans. What do we always have to show our ugliest side to the world. Thank God for our President.

You are correct. This is all the poisoned chalice of that evil act.
TOTALLY!
Unfortunately the residual effects will be with us a long time,”Hell of a job Brownie”!
Discussing with my daughter sailor - exactly what you said - when GWB went into Iraq - the middle east fell apart - what mindless dumb a..hole recommended this has caused massive repercussions throughout the world.

A lot of dominoes have yet to fall.

Yes. This is what I call ‘sheltering in place’. <3
OMG, this is terrible. My thoughts and prayers are with these families and France.
War mongering MSM does not disappoint while this massacre is happening.
Consider…..It’s sooooo easy to get weapons here…….Profit motive, how long? :-(

Freedom Tower in NYC displaying French Flag colors.
The Park Service should plant the French and American flags at the Statue of Liberty.
this is a great idea to send to the National Park Service and the US Department of the Interior
Prayers for Paris
don’t know how many others here feel to overwhelmed by the emotions that you begin to feel physical pain in the heart - although in reality nothing is really medically wrong with your heart;
this is where I am now - simply devastating !!!!
I know exactly what you mean, global. It comes from feeling helpless in the face of enormous tragedy.
a short while back, I could have swore to anyone that I was having a heart attack - nothing like that in reality but just a throbbing pain that is still there under my rib cage;
we have to hold each other up and stand in solidarity with the French people and other nationalities who were in Paris as events unfolded
{{{{Global}}}}}. Hold each other up and in our hearts.
In the face of enormous evil.

And this scene is making me choke up.

I’m going through the first few stages of grief over the events in France

LL, thanks, but I can’t handle it right now.
They just fixed it.
My thoughts and prayers to the people in France. It’s devastating what happened there today.
I agree sjterrid, it is just evil.

“Focus not Assad but ISIS”
This idjit must think that all the western leaders are idjits. If it were so easy, it would have been done already.

No, Trump’s tweet and the ambassador’s reaction were from the Charlie Hebdo attack in January.

I assume the US right is screaming for all civilians to be armed - the good man with the gun & all that
Howdidjaknow?
Didn’t need 2nd vision - sadly
if you are not able to control your reactions at a time like today, you are may end up saying things that you may live to regret;
What’s different about this attack? A security expert on France24 just laid it out: the attack on soft targets. You can’t protect soft targets. People were warning that this was where AQ / ISIL would head. And it’s where we are.
Soft targets are meant to generate maximum terror, cause people to live in fear. To hell with that.
