    Still first? I can’t imagine the horror the refugees have been through and are confining to suffer through.

    HuffPo posts tweets from major U.S. and international politicos . All very appropriate and generous.

    Until this one from Marco Rubio “Praying for victims of attacks in Paris and for those reportedly held hostage.”

    Reportedly. Because the media, ya know, might be saying there are hostages, but that doesn’t mean ol’ Rubio is going to believe it, and neither should you.

    In my mind none of this would have happened if GWB had kicked Cheney’s ass and listen to the CIA plus kept his ass ouy of Iraq. Just sayin’! :evil:

    don’t know how many others here feel to overwhelmed by the emotions that you begin to feel physical pain in the heart - although in reality nothing is really medically wrong with your heart;

    this is where I am now - simply devastating !!!!

        a short while back, I could have swore to anyone that I was having a heart attack - nothing like that in reality but just a throbbing pain that is still there under my rib cage;

        we have to hold each other up and stand in solidarity with the French people and other nationalities who were in Paris as events unfolded

      I’m not sure what is meant by this tweet, but it’s certainly worth considering that ISIS attacks in Beirut yesterday may be related to the ones in Paris. This article talks about ‘sleeper cells’ activating in response to other attacks. Not so much a set of coordinated events, but spontaneous reactions. http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2015/11/lebanon-isis-problem-is-out-of-control.html

    I can’t help but agree that this is the foreign policy equivalent of Bush’s Katrina. The result of Katrina was death, displacement and economic chaos.Fortunately the people there were American citizens and were able to finally get some help from other Americans, and there was no power vaccuum. The Iraqis/Syrians and others weren’t so lucky. There were no more homes and not much help either.

    As bad as Saddam was, he kept the peace and dealt with fanatics like the ones in Paris-often quite forcefully. They were enemies of his state, and he kept them repressed. The result was that Iraqis could lead a normal life for the most part. Same thing that we are finding out about Assad. Again, Assad kept the peace and enough Syrians were able to lead a normal life. Again, no ISIS/ISIL possible.

    Also know nothing about the tweeter; his twitter bio:

      This idjit must think that all the western leaders are idjits. If it were so easy, it would have been done already.

    I had turned my tv on earlier today. MSNBC came on with Brian Wms reporting about the Paris attacks. When I noticed they were just repeating the same things over and over I turned the station to CBS finding they were reporting it also. In those reports I heard that Donald Trump had tweeted something that mentioned France’s strict gun control and where it got them. It also said that France’s ambassador in the US was insulted and responded. I have listened to hear it again, but have not heard it since then. Anyone here heard anything about this?

    • 69 Liberal Librarian
      November 13, 2025 at 9:44 pm

      No, Trump’s tweet and the ambassador’s reaction were from the Charlie Hebdo attack in January.

      • 70 maryl1
        November 13, 2025 at 10:17 pm

        But Newt Gingrich was carrying the torch.
        “Newt Gingrich tweeted that concealed carry permits could have prevented the hostage crisis at Paris’s Bataclan theater.

        Gingrich also tied the attack to Syrian refugees, though there is no evidence they have anything to do with it.

        Gingrich isn’t the first to to link terrorism and gun control. During January’s attacks on Charlie Hebdo and the kosher supermarket, Donald Trump also tweeted about France’s gun control policies.”

        Guess that is why I did not hear anything further about Donald’s tweet. I must have just changed the station not hearing anything about the tweet being in January. Thanks for filling in the blanks.

    What’s different about this attack? A security expert on France24 just laid it out: the attack on soft targets. You can’t protect soft targets. People were warning that this was where AQ / ISIL would head. And it’s where we are.

    • 77 jackiegrumbacher
      November 13, 2025 at 10:17 pm

      Soft targets are meant to generate maximum terror, cause people to live in fear. To hell with that.

        November 13, 2025 at 10:20 pm

        Of course, same security expert went on to say that the communities from which these people arise need to “stand up” and cooperate with security services. So. Blame the Mooslims.

          When will the people stand up FOR this community? When Charlie Hebrow dissed their religion no one stood up and called it wrong. The people stood with CH.

    Thank you all for a sane place to get the news. I have been at work, thank goodness it’s a sports bar so no news was on, but I was lurking at TOD. I am so heart sick I don’t know what to say. Except my prayers are with France and all the victims.
