    Thank goodness for Amazon Prime Music.

    Been listening to this soundtrack all week….

    Been playing this soundtrack over and over

      I bought the soundtrack CD when it came out and loaded it onto my Itunes account so that I could hear it on all of my devices. I became so intrigued after listening to it that I purchased and have been reading the main source that Lin Manuel Miranda used, Ron Chernow’s biography of Alexander Hamilton. I am also planning to read The Federalist Papers. There is some talk of filming the stage production and making it available on DVD; I really hope this happens so that more people, especially students, will get a chance to see it.

    Thank you so much, Nerdy Wonka! Congrats to Rikyrah for gold and silver on this post. Our daughter arrived home at midnight from her public health service trip to Lesvos, Greece. She’s exhausted but far more knowledgeable about the plight of the Syrian and other refugees trying to find new homes. NGOs need to coordinate better to really meet the needs.

      Judith, I’m so very happy that your daughter arrived safe and sound. Please, please share some of her insights with us when you can. Hope she gets lots of rest now and recovers her strength. I know you’ll rest easier now that she’s home.

    I know people who came to this country as refugees;

    I have lived in a war-torn country at peak of a devastating war in which hundred of thousands were murdered;

    I have travelled, lived,and worked in areas were whole villages were slaughtered and mass graves abound (yes, with the skulls and other bones of the deceased not yet buried up to this time) ;

    the ugliness of the talk against refugees bring back memories I would rather not deal with and makes me really, really, really, ….., really angry;

    MSNBC has been showing some new poll, NBC News poll which shows that 65% wants boots on the ground to fight ISIS and 35% is against boots on the ground. Well to that 65% put on the uniforms, get your sons and daughters ready, mom and dad too and go fight ISIS.

    All this fear mongering about low-tech, small terrorist cells, but as far as I can tell NO MENTION of how that’s likely MUCH RISKIER in a society awash in millions of guns and virtually no controls on access to and trafficking of guns in many states. (Yes, typically the states most hysterical about the threat of terrorism.)

    I’m not a great foreign policy expert like Ben Carson, or Trump or Rubio but here are a few things I do know:

    Oil is selling at $40 per barrel and threatening to fall even further.
    There is a glut. Too much oil floating in tankers around the world and little demand for that oil.
    Big bets on the oil they own in those tankers has been placed by banks hedge funds, etc.
    They NEED the demand for oil and then the prices to rise.

    Now, let me think. What would increase the demand for oil and therefore raise the price per barrel?
    Just a guess. Lots of fighter planes, tanks, and other vehicles on the go. Peace isn’t profitable for the 1%.
    War might be really good for business.

      Yes, they are. I keep seeing my two little great grandsons, almost 5 and 2 years old, in the faces of these little refugee children - and thank God they are safe in their beds tonight. But it could be them, and I have a grateful heart it isn’t. God bless all the little children who are victims of this cruelty … this insanity.

        I’m just feeling crushed. It’s quite something to realize you live in a country where half the people are horrifically heartless, willing to turn their backs on children who are suffering without any mercy in their lives.

          Hugs to you, and I am with you a thousand percent. The video of the father in Paris shown comforting his son, by saying the flowers and candles will protect them, is where I’m directing my attention. And heart. I’ve watched it five times already.

    Ladies and Gentlemen…Barney Frank’s wise words.

    The more Americans tell themselves the problem lies with the politicians in office, and the less they admit it’s the responsibility of the voters who elect people unwilling to govern, the worse things will become. Blaming elected officials just deepens the degree of public unhappiness with the political system; this misplaced anger then depresses voter turnout and distorts voters’ choices when they get to the booth.

    http://www.juancole.com/2015/11/reasons-governors-refugees.html

    . The US owes these refugees. Without the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, there would have been no al-Qaeda in that part of the world, and no al-Qaeda offshoots like Daesh/ ISIL. Why do the governors (most of whom supported the invasion of Iraq) think the US can go around the world sowing instability and being responsible for creating the conditions that lead to millions of refugees but then can avoid the responsibility of ameliorating those broken lives?

    I am livid about this exclusion and drummed up hysteria. I really am ashamed to be American sometimes…this all makes me cringe and feels so, so wrong..( because it is!)

      And this:

      10. Cruz’s call for Christian refugees to be given special privileges reminds us of the the racist Chinese Exclusion Act, which derived in part from Christian American dislike of those they called “heathens.” Religion is often an element in the construction of ethnicity, so the privileging of Christianity has a long history of being a stealth form of racism.
