I think a lot of Thanksgiving tables are going to be fraught with tension this year as right wing family members play up the fear of foreigners and their love of “Tell it Like it Is” Trump. Our choices will be to fight it head on, ignore it, or leave the table. I love every member of my family, but there are some I literally can’t stand to be with because I have to play an elaborate and stressful game of dancing around controversial subjects.
Well jackie, I’m glad I don’t have that problem. Everyone at my table have one thing in common, we can’t stand the racists right wing Republicans B.S. We will disagree on the football team to root for, but we see Trump, the right wingers for the racists bigots they are.
I AM ON THE FLOOR..THE WOMAN OF THE HOUSE IN THAT SKIT IS MY EX-PASTOR’S NASTY WIFE…EVEN LOOKS LIKE HER…I HAVE NO FAMILY HERE SO I NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT A GATHERING AROUND THE TABLE. THAT LEFT A VERY LONG TIME AGO..AND BTW…CHRISTMAS IS NOT CORRECT…JESUS CHRIST WAS BORN IN SEPT….THE CATHOLICS CAME UP WITH THE DEC. 25TH DATE AND ALL LEFT IT THAT WAY. I FEEL VERY SORRY FOR CHRIST BECAUSE WE CAN’T EVEN CELEBRATE HIS BIRTHDAY ON THE TRUE DATE…THE AFOREMENTIONED INFORMATION IS FROM THE ARAMAIC NEW TESTAMENT I OWN. ALOT OF THINGS ARE MISLEADING IN SO CALLED CHRISTIANITY…THEY WROTE THEIR OWN BIBLE AND THEY WOULD RATHER HAVE THE GIFTS AND POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE THAN CELEBRATE THE LORD’S GENUINE BIRTH!
Africa, it amazes me the way the media acts as if they live in another country and are just visiting here. They don’t seem to have the slightest concern for what Trump would do the country and how utterly destructive he would be to all the liberties they take for granted, including freedom of the press. Right now, Trump provides a source of endless entertainment for them and they’re determined to pump him up and keep his candidacy going for as long as possible. It really is hard to have anything but contempt for the media as a whole, although there are some local and regional people who seem to do an honest and professional job.
If Sen. Obama had said half the things Trump have said, there would have never been a President Obama. Donald Trump is a racists and so are his supporters, but the media will never say one word about that. It’s no big deal that Trump want to take Muslim Americans rights away.
It is shameful. But what I’ve come to believe is that in addition to the fact they are all trying to get rich themselves, they answer to their corporate managers. They have no principles, no integrity. It is all self-preservation. They are not the Walter Cronkites of this world. We have since lost that and with the rise of a person like Trump, we sorely need a Cronkite to stop him in his tracks.
MSM now have agents to negotiate their salaries like actors, etc. They seek the limelight themselves. Witness how they behave at PBO press conferences. You have a person who calls himself a journalist, asking about getting the “bastards.” Or the story after the Dem debates. Journalists crowing that the winner was the moderator. And most importantly, many are totally uninformed about the topics they cover. There is no original thought. They parrot each other and just spit out the same things.
They develop a narrative and that’s it. They normalized a lot of the hate speech directed at president Obama. Every journalist knew and knows full well that President Obama was born in this country. But time and again, they invited Trump on TV to discuss his birth certificate as if it was legitimate news.
Then when the GOP collectively decided to obstruct everything the president did, including ushering in some of their own policies, the media covered it as legitimate news, often using false equivalence to justify their coverage.
What we have is a media that has contributed wholly to the disintegration of civil discourse in the country.
Stories about president Obama are covered largely from a negative point of view. When he is up in the polls, they are quiet. When his polls are perceived to be bad, it is amplified.
Look no further than today. Last night a Democrat won in a red state. There is little to no coverage on it. Compare that to the ferocity with which the Kentucky race was covered. In their eyes, it was a referendum on President Obama, who is not even running.
Sometimes, I believe, lots of people in the MSM feel toward PBO, the same way many of the GOP do. That he has no place in the White House. Despite the fact that he bests every single one of them in every facet of his being, his values, his intelligence and his common humanity.
OK. I am rambling. Let me stop.
But one thing I am convinced about is that the Media is complicit in the ugly discourse in this country. Thank you for putting up with my mini rant here.
‘most importantly, many [in MSM] are totally uninformed about the topics they cover. There is no original thought. …

Co-sign! you’ve eloquently put into words without using the profanity that suddenly laces spews forth from my mouth when I rant on this very subject. Seems every one of my rants starts with “these MFr’s…”
ALL of THIS!! You have beautifully summed up the last 7 years. I am co-signing with an especially heavy heart because my first training was in journalism during the time when it was drilled into us to be objective, to avoid opinion unless it was clearly labeled as such and to stringently fact check. It was also the time in which we felt that we had a constitutional duty to search out the truth no matter where it led and to keep the public informed on issues that affected them without bias. Here’s a good analogy (from Stephen King’s “The Dead Zone,” the politician who the clairvoyant protagonist decided he needed to assassinate to spare the world from WWIII nuclear holocaust):
The more I watch @realDonaldTrump rallies and speeches, the more similarities I see with Greg Stillson. (Google name & share the conclusion)
What have the media said about this win for the Democrats? When that idiot in Kentucky won, that is all they talk about. And they blame Obama for losing the Governor seat in red neck Kentucky.
Laugh out loud funny ~ thanks for the video Chips and a happy Sunday to all :) Yay to Louisiana for electing a dem finally to lead their state… I really hope they see the light and keep a democrat gov for many years to come.
Hi everybody! I’m alive and well, but actually took an entire day+ off from being online and read a couple of books; that is after they worked me to bits for the entire week! ;)
Here you go with a brief look at what all Secretary Jewell has been up to! :)
Greetings folks! There a lot in this past week's @Interior recap. Check it out!
https://t.co/N7BAEWAKX5
Good W/E coast morning VC :-)
Thanks for the Interior update, especially good news about the money for travel for 4th graders to visit our National Parks. This video is indeed full of great information. Let’s try to tweet it around and post on FB so many teachers and people with school age children will receive this valuable information. Thanks again vc :-)
Oh goodness yes! Now gearing up for Thanksgiving.
How’s your weather? I was shocked to see the snow falling and accumulating in Chicago yesterday, especially since it was in the 80s F here yesterday and again today. They say we will get the El Nino weather, but it might not arrive till mid December.
From my perspective our weather has been fine. There was only one day last week when I had to put on my coat going from the car and in to work! ;) Of course, I’m well aware that I’ll have to put on my snow tires soon. Presumably you are ready for El Nino (with supplies etc) in case it makes a grand entrance, right?
Feds not pushing back on Bundy ranch snipers insured that we will see more of these demonstrations.
If you are white you may assemble maliciously while fully armed and “your rights’ apparently keep you safe.
The rest of the population, everything, and sometimes absolutely nothing, is a reason to arrest or shoot you.
I noticed on my local news last night that they mentioned Trump rally - including the fact that he had a heckler removed, but the story never mentioned that the heckler was beaten or that he was a black man who was chanting “Black Lives Matter”.
Selective News Reporting
I’m also so very happy Louisiana made the choice to go blue! I hope the new governor does a spectacular job, so other southern states follow suit. Could be the “new normal.”
Caught the President’s press conference last night. If it weren’t in the early morning hours when it concluded, I would have contacted some people close to him via social media, right then and there, to urge him to repeat that in a prime time Presidential Address to the American People. He outlined everything anybody needs to know as many begin trying to understand our relationships with other countries outside our own, and his leadership around the world, over this next year. He was SUPERB. We are so lucky.
And I say “begin trying,” after hearing that dumb Kate Snow on MSNBC say the other day that “where is Mali” was one of the highest search terms on Google, after the recent attack, acting as though she was probably one of the searchers.
GM J’OB, I am also happy that Louisiana made the choice to go blue! And I would love to see the President’s press conference from last night. I hope it gets posted here sometime today.
jb, regarding what you said about the press conference, perhaps we and others should start tweeting and writing the White House and advisers asking that the President give such an informative speech to the country in Prime Time! I know it is now hard for them to get this access, but under the “equal time” rule he should have it…..counteract all the time Rump is getting for one thing.
I’m glad he’s on the way home…….Welcome home, Mr. President, and you have one more Democratic governor, and one more state that will be expanding Medicaid. We love you!
I love it also and have been playing it since it was released in October. I almost wish that I was still teaching so that I could share it with my students. I often used non-traditional ways (did you know that it is possible to apply a rap beat to the the Prologue to The Canterbury Tales in Middle English?) to teach Literature and history that my high school students first dismissed as uninteresting.
Wow CEB, I’d love to hear your Canterbury Tales prologue! Bet your classes were fun! I saw the movie 1776 at 12 yrs old and was never bored in History class after that. Love what Kenneth Branagh has did with Shakespeare in his films — Denzel and Keanu in Much Ado About Nothing [squeeeeee!]
Anyway, if you miss teaching, go
back to it. If traditional classroom is too much, find a way to do what you love in a different form. Tutor, do a seminar/lecture or two through a local community college or public library. Heck, create a YouTube channel and upload videos of your teaching your favorite goodies! You can do it!
The teachers who had the biggest impact on me were the ones who always took the time to show how the topic could relate to our lives and culture. You sparked a flame in more students than even realize. My hat’s off to you!
I was too young to remember, but I remember when we lost MLK and Bobby vividly. Soulless thugs took away our dreamers back then. I’m so grateful this generation has PBO to show the world the best of America’s promise.
I too remember it so plainly. I was a junior in HS and home for lunch. We had the TV on and they broke in. Nobody would believe me when I went back to school. It was a very sad day.
I was in high school and our principal came over the p.a. system, crying, to let us know … and then the whole school was crying. And we cried for many days to follow. And then we had to go through the awful events of ’68. It was a very sad decade.
I too remember crying all the time. Watching all on TV. I truly believe for those of us our age, those 2 deaths solidified my political beliefs. Couldn’t let the haters win. Now here we are going thru so much the same thing. When will we ever learn. It is so hard for me to understand such hatred. I thank God everyday for PBO and the First Family.
In many ways, for those like me who lived in a happy little bubble before that, our experiences at such young ages helped us understand what was going on in the world around us, a lot quicker … and how utterly awful such hatred of our fellow human beings is. I would rather have learned that in other ways, but at least I saw it as a lesson - as did many others.
I remember well. I was 8 yrs old; in the hospital with pneumonia. Nurses were pissed that not only was this little chocolate child in a semi-private room rather than the children’s ward, my family also ensured that I had a tv (back in those days, you rented a tv from a company that collected daily). There were times when I pressed the bell for the nurse and it would take forever for them to answer. All of that changed after the assassination; my room became the nurses favorite hangout…
What a negative experience for you, but for the fact you had the TV and the nasty nurses didn’t! I see it didn’t “hold you back” in later years, and probably didn’t then, either.
I was 9 years old and I remember the day well. It was a cold, blustery day (In those days we actually had winter in NE Fla.). My 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Floyd, who had been out of the room for a while, came in with tears on her face and told us that the president had been killed. I remember feeling confused, afraid, and numb all at the same time. Some of the awful racists in the area were happy, and I even remember something, that I will not repeat here, that one woman said that shocked me. All of the adults were huddled around the television sets for days and not really paying attention to the children as they tried to process the awful news. That day and the next few years afterward when Martin and Bobby were assassinated in April and June of 1968 were the ending days of my childhood. No one and nothing was safe from evil. I usually avoid media on the anniversary of these deaths because it takes me back to those feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, and loss.
NYC unemployment is now at 4.8%. The lowest it has been in memory. 100,000 new jobs added in the past year.
Wages in the City and NY State are on track to rise to $15.00.
Keep this is mind when you hear the venom directed against Mayor de Blasio.
The big accusation now is that The Mayor hasn’t done enough to help the homeless. Even one homeless family is one too many.
But keep in mind that Mike Bloomberg’s parting gift to his successor was the cancellation of Housing Advantage Vouchers that threw thousands of working families out into the streets.
Thanks Vicki. You are exactly right about this. I think people’s memories are short when it comes to the way Bloomie treated the homeless. He did nothing for them and when pressed about his dismal record in that area, his excuse was that the homeless of NYC LOVED the existing shelters and weren’t in a hurry to move out because they were “nice.”
Also, I’m just providing a link with the data to support the stats you’ve just posted.
http://labor.ny.gov/stats/pressreleases/pruistat.shtm
Nowadays, what a Successful Dem does is looked at Too Easy……Nothing Much……Weak…..etc.
Why?
To Praise their successes would mean the end of GOPers as a political party.
Prejudice and discrimination is in the soul of Trump supporters, the KKK, is no different then ISIS. What have change is they can’t get away with the bombing, the hanging, the killings like they used too.
Because his favorite dessert (pie) is the main feature and he can eat to his heart’s content and not have FLOTUS scold him for it! :):) Gotta love our President!
I heard that trump recently got US Secret Service protection;
this means that I am paying my taxes to guarantee the physical protection of a scumbag who is actively encouraging his supporters to be physically beat up other people at a rally - just because they don’t agree with him;
I think it is time we demand that this bigot’s USSS be rescinded - let the fellow hate mongers protect him
Back to work, see ya later!
Goodbye morning Chips. Don’t work too hard.
G da mined autocorrect. That skit was so funny. Have a great day. Off to baseba
Geez, Chips, don’t you ever get a day off? I’s inhumane to work on a Sunday, says a retiree who has all seven days of the week “off.”
Morning JG. Chips is the Hardest working person ever!
:-) I can’t complain Jackie, I usually have Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays off!!
Wow, that’s actually a nice benefit. Some people I know would kill for three days off a week.
Thanks for the funny this morning Chips! Needed it! 😄
Thanks, Adele! Thanks, Chips! Funny…
Thanks Chipsticks, I did smile. :)
Hahahahaha.
Thanks for the laughs, Chips!!
Thanks Chips - that was a nice, funny Thanksgiving Skit. Probably the funniest SNL has been in a long, long time! :)
Wishing you a productive Sunday Chips!
Very true. Dec 25 was chosen to capture solstice worshippers and pagans into the Catholic church.

Co-sign! you’ve eloquently put into words without using the profanity that suddenly laces spews forth from my mouth when I rant on this very subject.
When there are few independent voices left in a time when almost all media outlets are owed by a very few we get the disaster that we have today.
It’s quite simple.
What GOPers are screaming about, that is exactly what US News Media will drive 24/7.
GOPers have a well oiled echo chamber Media.
CBS, ABC and CNN will bend over backwards to accommodate GOPers in every way. WHY? They don’t want to be accused of Liberal Bias. They want access. They party together with these people. GM AT2.
Agree with JackieG that our media are shameful shills for a truly dangerous robber-baron wannbe.
Here’s a good analogy (from Stephen King’s “The Dead Zone,” the politician who the clairvoyant protagonist decided he needed to assassinate to spare the world from WWIII nuclear holocaust):
2016 *must be* the year that dangerous GOP voters no longer influence national politics and American’s security.
Look at that poll, do we need any more proof just how low the racists Republican voters has sunk? What a disgrace.
America has not been attack, I trust the President we have in office now to handle threats of terrorism. I want to let Jonathan Karl know that.
OMG! That video is hilarious! 😂😂😂
Thanks for posting this clip here. Was trying to see it last night but hubby wouldn’t stop talking. Very real and very funny.

Pretty much sick of the entire U.S. media, at this point. Thank God for TOD and social media!

Hi, carolyn - yes, let’s all try to do that! I’ll be working on it, a little later in the day.
Just getting to today’s news here - so thanks for letting me know the President is on his way home! Good trip, Mr. President!
He is the President - does he really have to beg the networks for time - cannot believe this RW media - complete decay of a system
Really awesome! I have got to go see it — someday!

Hugs to you, CEB. Thank God we survived to keep on pushing, in our own individual ways.
Sadly, yes, I remember it well.

Nowadays, what a Successful Dem does is looked at Too Easy……Nothing Much……Weak…..etc.
Why?
To Praise their successes would mean the end of GOPers as a political party.
California, anyone?
Seriously? Tom-freaking-Brokaw?
Prejudice and discrimination is in the soul of Trump supporters, the KKK, is no different then ISIS. What have change is they can’t get away with the bombing, the hanging, the killings like they used too.
Because his favorite dessert (pie) is the main feature and he can eat to his heart’s content and not have FLOTUS scold him for it! :) :) Gotta love our President!
never mess with PBO’s pie!
Will we be seeing Trump and wife three talking to Robin about Thanksgiving?
I heard that trump recently got US Secret Service protection;
this means that I am paying my taxes to guarantee the physical protection of a scumbag who is actively encouraging his supporters to be physically beat up other people at a rally - just because they don’t agree with him;
I think it is time we demand that this bigot’s USSS be rescinded - let the fellow hate mongers protect him
This (repeat?) fits better on the last post - but hey, how often do I land on the ‘right’ post in a timely manner? ;)
Something to keep in mind on your next shopping spree
Thanks for the reminder!
