I must spend a good part of the day in the kitchen, even though I promised myself that I was through with cooking, but family insisted (my wonderful non-cooking sister) that I do a little something like cook the turkey, stuffing, gravy and bake a cake to bring to the dinner. I’ll cook the turkey in the morning and do everything else today. Oh yeah, it can’t be just plain old stuffing. It’s got to have everything in it including the kitchen sink :-)

Morning. I suspect the Obama daughters are going to feel ‘teenage’ discomfort with the turkey ceremony. Anyone who’s ever raised a teenager knows that ‘this is not cool’ attitude that makes them shun events that seem dorky (is that term still used?). One sad bit of news-my oldest sister suffered two strokes this year and when I called her she said she had forgotten how to get to her daughter’s house, a route she had driven literally countless times. I wanted to sit down and cry after hearing that. Getting old really stinks.
Damn it, that’s so sad Jackie, it’s such an awful affliction - especially when the person is fully aware that their memory is slipping. Life can be too cruel sometimes.
Yeah, she’s very aware and so has to fight feeling depressed as well as struggling to regain her memory. Still she has a good spirit and a lot of people who love her. Thanks for caring.
It’s funny, I know elderly people who are blissfully unaware of their memory difficulties, they genuinely seem to have no idea they are struggling, while others are conscious of it from the start. The brain truly is a mystery.

Df, that comes home to me every day since my sister is only eight years older. The time we have is so precious that I’m trying to train myself to live each day fully and not fret about things I can’t control. And, believe me, that’s not an easy thing to do.
Jackie, you’re right, getting old stinks! Self-awareness, a good spirit and loving family will certainly help her navigate the challenges ahead. My prayers for your sis and family.
JackieG, if she has a current phone, then the phone can give her turn by turn directions. I have empathy for her plight. I have a friend who’s sliding into dementia.
GGail, my sister’s ability to handle current technology is laughably nil. She asked her daughter to e-mail her directions and will try to follow them. That’s as advanced as she gets

Any truly Good idea on how to solve this problem has been implemented/and/or considered already. It isn’t helpful to say or imply that you could do better.

Vicki what people refuse to understand is that defeating ISIS is not all that have to be done, because if American troops go over there and defeat ISIS, and there is no Government for the people, people are suffering, people don’t work to get along, then ISIS or some other group would pop back up. And American troops can’t go over there and stay forever. It is time for the people over there, the countries who say they do not support terrorism to step up to the plate and fight. The people here who are talking about the President coming up with another plan cause this isn’t working. The researchers examined a large database that tracks cancer cases in the United States. They compared the cancer diagnoses among women between the ages of 21 to 25 to the diagnoses among women between the ages of 26 to 34 — both before and after the Affordable Care Act’s coverage expansion took effect.
An Obamacare provision that allows young adults to remain insured through their parents’ plans until the age of 26 appears to have affected the rates of cervical cancer diagnosis among that demographic. After the ACA, the diagnosis rates significantly rose for the women in their early twenties and remained fairly constant for older women.
“It’s a very remarkable finding, actually,” researcher Dr. Ahmedin Jemal told the New York Times. “You see the effect of the ACA on the cancer outcomes.”
