Checked my e-mail this morning, and first thing I noticed were some of the warm wishes from online shoppes — the subject lines of most carried some typically American message like:
“Giving Thanks - and 20% off!”
Ha. I do not shop on holidays, because I don’t want people having to work on holidays!
Ha! I’m with you job! No shopping on Thanksgiving for us either. Even my Mom who is the Queen of Shopping Fiends won’t shop until 4am tomorrow! 😄
Ha. I was thinking maybe after midnight, tonight. <3
I was just saying recently how I miss the days when businesses — stores especially — were closed on most holidays and people were able to spend time with and enjoy the time with their families.
Do stores really increase their sales *that much* just because they extend the time to go shopping? Not to mention I’ve been getting weekly emails “celebrating” cyber-Monday since Halloween.
What irks me most is that I’m not sure - as it used to be, thanks to unions - that these workers are getting paid time and a half, for the holiday. Argghhh.
Good Thanksgiving morning everyone:) So much to be thankful for! My family, my TOD family, friends, work that I love…My President. I don’t believe that thankful and grateful really cover that for me… I hope that everyone reading has a glorious day today…the simple things in this life are what matter most. If you have no family to share with, take a walk, hike, sit and watch the birds and the sky, the ocean, if you’re lucky:) Marvel in the world that we live in…in these times that we are experiencing now….historic times, and be thankful. Hugs and love.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, Chips, and all the wonderful TODers that enrich each day with caring hearts and curious minds. I think most of us would agree that this site has kept us sane during the magnificent presidency of Barack Obama. Imagine how hard it would be to endure all the sabotage, hatred, and malice toward our President if we didn’t have each other to rely on. Thank you, Chips, for creating this glorious haven, which reflects your personality and spirited view of the world. My heart is filled with love for my family- my beautiful granddaughter who has a whole full life ahead of her, my MIL and sisters who are suffering the aches and indignities of age, and my wonderful husband, who is the light and love of my life. I’m blessed by every single one of them and on this day, it’s good to stop and allow myself to fully feel the gratitude I have for them. Hope everyone here has a glorious day with much affection and with all the goodies that loving hands prepare.

I am thankful for my family, my health, and in general that things are as well as they are.
I’m thankful that this country had the common sense to elect President Obama/VP BIden…men of intellect and compassion; men who are level-headed and not prone to reckless behavior; men with a long-term vision. They have led us through trying times and I am thankful for them and their families that they were willing to put their lives on hold for the benefit of this country.
And I am thankful for my extended TOD family. Chipsticks, Nerdy, and all the BT’s, contributors and lurkers…you have helped to keep me sane throughout the outrageousness that has become American politics. You have helped to keep us informed, thus compensating for the negligence of what is lightly termed news media. But beyond that, the social, cultural, and educational contributions have helped to broaden my horizons. You are a family that rejoices in our individual successes and triumphs and provides support and consolation in times of need. My life has been enriched by being a part of this community.
I AM THANKFUL!

We in the Caribbean are very grateful to President Obama’s Administration who signed an accord yesterday with our governments (CARICOM), to provide over $180 million US over a five year period to cover a variety of beneficial programmes. We are so thankful for PBO’s leadership and compassion. We are thankful that he considers long term outcomes and not only the immediate. And we are thankful that you share him with us, the rest of the world.
May the God we serve continue to bless, prosper, guide and protect him, his immediate and extended families, and his true supporters, especially the TOD family.

That’s a trend that I hope continues because it means that the skills and talents that African immigrant professionals have will be used to grow their own countries and not England, France, or the US. PBO has repeatedly said that Africa is a growing economic powerhouse. How wonderful to see African countries best the very colonial powers that once suppressed them.

I am so grateful that I found first The Only Adult in the Room, and then The Obama Diary. This community has kept me sane, brought me humor, song and gorgeous pictures. You’v validated and fed my Obamamania. Nerdy, zizi, DonnaDem, Vicki and so many others have enriched my political understanding, Bobfr has kept me aware and informed about places and situations in the world I would otherwise have had little knowledge of.I am in awe of the immense amount of hard slog you gave toward electing and then re-electing the best president of my lifetime. I wish I could name you all, but I’m late with my dinner prep and I would be petrified of inadvertently leaving someone out. Chips, the queen of it all has added her wisdom and most importantly brought all of us together and given us a safe haven. Thank you doesn’t begin to cover it. I hope for a grace-filled, spirit-filled, fun-filled, Thanksgiving to each of you.

Over the years, I have been grateful for the intelligent and informative conversations and the support that members give to each other. In 2009 I nearly lost my husband in a car accident. His recovery was long and painful I spent months alone at home. This wonderful place, chronicling the new president, saved my sanity. Love all of you!
