What seems to me to be happening is that the bias many people knew was there is now showing itself so clearly that everyone has to see it.
Vicky, I only hope enough people begin to see it that they start to do something about it. Americans have to wrest control of the US Congress from the NRA and gun industry. Right now 300 million people are held hostage to the cowardice of their representatives at the state and federal level. This has to stop. And the violence against clinics that serve largely female patients needs to be seen for what it is-the deep-seated misogyny of white males who are threatened by a world in which women can control their own destinies. This isn’t about abortion or so-called ‘Christian’ value for life, it’s about the threat to patriarchy.

You may have noted, Yardarm, that MSNBC has gone back to its regular cheerful programming for the night - Lock-up, where you can see what happens to their reality show suspects, after they’re captured. CNN will be taking the CO Springs story forward all evening, though, because now they’re reporting on the shooter’s car. Ugh.
Of course, JO’B. This shooting doesn’t fit the Republican ‘promote fear of terrorists’ messaging and it comes too close to the gun control issue, so the media has been told to stand down and, like dutiful soldiers, they do what they are told.

I have a huge favor to seek from my family….A dear friend of mine has .MS Both she and her husband have changed jobs, neither has health insurance thru current employers- therefore she went to the ACA web site, created a password, etc. this started in late summer. trying to get insurance for husband, herself and 2 children under 4. to date still uninsured..State of WA says the problem is Federal, and guess what Federal says” its a state problem”. My friend is in dire need of a current MRI, and they have been paying all med/drug out of pocket. scary at best. I know we have some here who have been active in aiding registration of people for ACA. At this time she’s unable to even access the account she created. AND the most unbelievable part of the story is that she actually got a insurance card -her 1st name and last name were correct as well as the address, BUT, middle initial was incorrect as was the SS number Told her I would ask the only smart people alive in U.S. if anyone had any idea of where to go or a way to contact someone who would care even a bit…Love all you wonderful people. and hope you thanksgiving was great, and full of joy. Sounds like a Tally or Bill R. question, Inga. Hope they check in…I would keep checking in here to see if you see them around…and ask again. Seems like she should be able to contact the insurance commissioner in WA and they can handle it or point her in the right direction….OR, how about her reps in congress…or her senator…..
Tally is a better resource than I am because it’s private insurance they need and not Medicaid. Washington has its own exchange and website. It’s not clear to me that whether they registered at the state or federal exchange. They might be well served to work with an agent in Washington state that works with ACA insurance. Otherwise the WA state site should list local navigators to assist with this.
Do they have insurance agents in WA that can help them navigate through this? I have one that just helps me with my Medicare/Drug stuff every year. Tally & Bill would be great choices.

I volunteer with my state to register people for ObamaCare for private and Medicaid policies;
your friends need to look up an organization called GetCoveredAmerica (formerly EnrollAmerica) on the web;
this organization is the grassroots outreach for ObamaCare registration and it works directly with the Department of Health and Human (HHS) Services through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (which administers ObamaCare within HHS);
the volunteers and paid staff of GetCovered are trained and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to help people register face-to-face in their local office;
the service for helping people register is free to the potential enrollee and is provided at a physical office with specialization to the state in question;
the staff help you sort your application and complete it with you face-to-face and let you know if there is any documents you are missing or mistakes you are making;
look up the street address and phone for your branch in WA state (specific their city and zipcode) office for this organization (from the main website);
once they have found the physical address the either your friends walk into the office directly but preferably call to set up a appointment;
there is also a tool on line (on this GetCoveredAmerica’s website) through which you can look up open slots of appointment time and select one which works for you;
I volunteer with the Ohio GetCoveredAmerica and I have helped people register - so if your friends still have a problem, please leave a note on TOD and I can see how to help.
I will be on the look out for other questions you may have.

Seriously some Democrats act a lot like Republicans. I just saw on my facebook feed that Alan Grayson says he’s going to file a lawsuit challenging Ted Cruz’s standing as a candidate for president because he was born in Canada. A Ted Cruz birther. I posted a comment saying it was nasty when the Republicans did it and it’s still nasty when we do it. I got quite a bit of rabid pushback. I don’t like it when we do things we condemn when the Republicans do them. In 2008 Candidates Obama and Clinton co-sponsored a Senate resolution saying the John McCain was eligible to run for president and it passed unanimously. That’s the way i want us to behave.
Actually Ted Cruz is a Canadian national, born in Canada and is in fact not eligible to run for President of the United States. This is not birtherism, which is about creating a false narrative about the AA President’s place of birth. In the case of Ted Cruz, he was actually born in Canada.
His mother was born in Delaware, making him a ‘natural born citizen’ like McCain, Goldwater, and Romney.
The difference between McCain & Cruz is that there was legislation passed conferring citizenship on kids born to US citizens stationed in the canal zone. The McCain was born prior to the effective date of the legislation; as he met all the other criteria and the date was considered arbitrary, Sens O & C, sponsored the legislation to clarify McC’s eligibility. Cruz’s situation is NOT comparable…
Yes, I think that bill was just to get past the issue for the election - a gracious gesture by candidates Obama and Clinton. Because Cruz’s mother was a U.S. citizen it seems that most legal experts agree that that would make him a natural born citizen. It’s not absolute because the Supreme Court hasn’t ruled on it, but it seems clear enough not to bother with a law suit. Also in the other article I read, it said that previous challenges to presidential candidates had failed mainly because the people bringing them had no standing. the suit would have to be brought by a state wishing to exclude a candidate from their ballot, or an opposing candidate. Since Grayson is neither, it just seems like a self aggrandizing stunt. It just feeds the idea that “both sides do it”. I also understand about ‘revealing the hypocrisy’, but frankly I think that you either get it or you don’t by this time and if you don’t get it, you are probably not the kind of person that’s going to pay attention to Grayson. However, either way it’s a side issue. :)
grayson has nothing to lose by pointing out the hypocrisy / lies of rethugs. high time dems played hardball on these issues and make the indies realize how they are falling for the con from the rethugs.
I’m not sure that talking about bring a suit that he probably has no standing to bring and is based on a false premise anyway is going to make anybody realize anything. If we hated it when they did it, why should we do it ourselves? Plus I think Grayson is just a self-aggrandizing gasbag who’s doing it for publicity.

I think Congressman Grayson is trying to expose the hypocrisy of right wingers who insesantly claimed that president Obsma, despite the fact that his mother was a U.S. born Citizen, was not a legitimate president, because, as they repeatedly alleged, he was born in Kenya and not the United States. The right wing challenge of President Obama’s legitimacy was never about the citizenship of his mother; the challenge about his legitimacy was all about where he was born! This was at the heart of the repeated calls, legitimized by people like Donald Trump, that demanded he produce his long-form birth certificate. Unlike you, the fact that President Obama’s mother was a born citizen of the United States was not good enough! President Onama had to prove that he was born in the United States. So, it is strange that people who vigorously challenged president Onama’s legitimacy because they erroneouslu claimed that he was not born in the U. S., are totally, and conveniently, silent about Ted Rafael Cruz who was actually born in a foreign country-Canada. Although I am not a big fan of Congressman Grayson, in this instance, I strongly applaud him in his effort to expose GOP right wing hypocrisy.
the last thing that Grayson is dong is to expose GOP hypocrisy re the President…i do not remember him raising his voice to defend the President against birtherism….this stance is to put his name in the press….i will never forget how the press’ preoccupation with birtherism forced the President to show his Birth certificate
