Okay, Hopef, I’m signing off - those were the exact words I was going to type, then decided to give him a break. [Makes me think of ‘old’ couples echoing each other. *chuckle-chuckle*]
THIS IS WHAT RIGHT WING EXTREMISM ALL THE YEARS PBO HAS BEEN IN OFFCE HAS CALLED. I WARNED THE FOOLS IN MY EX-CHURCH SEVERAL TIMES AND FOUGHT OFTEN…THAT’S WHY THEY ARE MY EX-CHURCH! I CAN’T WAIT TO MOVE TO MY AFRICAN AMERICAN NEIGHBORHOOD AND CHURCH…HOME!
I knew some of the guys who cycled thru Montford Point. As a matter of fact they have a “Social Club”-VFW on the Southside of Chicago………….most of the guys are gone now but we shared plenty of ‘war stories’.
Sate travels, dear Mr. President. Prayers and positive thoughts for the safety of everyone at, in, and around the Climate Summit in Paris. May the leaders come up with concrete actions that will soon come to fruition to preserve the one home that we all share.
I’m sure FLOTUS wrapped him a piece of leftover thanksgiving pie to take with him on AF1. Also, reading material to relax his mind as he preps for this important Climate Change talks..and lovely memories of spending time with his girls the past couple days. :)
There was once a young man who, in his youth, professed his desire to become a great writer.
When asked to define “great” he said, “I want to write stuff that the whole world will read, stuff that people will react to on a truly emotional level, stuff that will make them scream, cry, howl in pain and anger!”
He now works for Microsoft, writing error messages.
Origins: Sometimes a great-sounding idea proves to be far less of a brainstorm once considered from all angles. That is indeed the case with this perennial open-hearted entreaty to add “A Recovering American Soldier” to your Christmas card list. While no one can fault the sentiment behind the suggestion (not only to remember the less fortunate during the holiday season but to make a special effort to reach out to those who have been wounded in the service of their country), the plan falters on one cruel yet
central reality: in these times of heightened security, mail from strangers to unnamed soldiers must be discarded unopened for everyone’s safety.
The U.S. Postal Service will not accept mail addressed to “Any Soldier,” “Any Wounded Soldier,” or the like because if it did, it could be providing a conduit for those who might do harm to armed services members. Such offerings are either returned to sender (if a return address has been provided or if one is found within the package) or donated to charities (if no address for the sender is found). Similarly, military hospitals will not accept letters, cards, or packages addressed in such manner for the same reason. Such beneficences, no matter how kindly meant, are not permitted to reach the soldiers they were intended for.
Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) officials echoed this information in a statement regarding the proposed plan to send cards to unnamed soldiers in its care:
Mail to Wounded and Recovering Soldiers
Walter Reed Army Medical Center officials want to remind those individuals who want to show their appreciation through mail to include packages and letters, addressed to “Any Wounded Soldier” that Walter Reed will not be accepting these packages in support of the decision by then Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Transportation Policy in 2001. This decision was made to ensure the safety and well being of patients and staff at medical centers throughout the Department of Defense.
In addition, the U.S. Postal Service is no longer accepting “Any Service Member” or “Any Wounded Service Member” letters or packages. Mail to “Any Service Member” that is deposited into a collection box will not be delivered.
Instead of sending an “Any Wounded Soldier” letter or package to Walter Reed, please consider making a donation to one of the more than 300 nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping our troops and their families listed on the “America Supports You” website, http://www.americasupportsyou.mil
The former Walter Reed Army Medical Center closed in August 2011 and merged with the National Naval Medical Center to form the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, Maryland. WRNMMC’s Facebook page instructs readers that holiday mail for service members should be sent through the “Holiday Mail for Heroes” program.

That’s a damn shame…..I got this from a veterans association……BTW, Snopes is not always correct. It’s been busted a few times but in this case there is a modicum of reason. Tks I’ll pass it on.
In this one, they are correct. BTW, Walter Reed is no longer on Georgia Ave; it closed a few years ago and they renamed Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, MD, “Walter Reed.”
Who knew? Thanks Alycee

central reality: in these times of heightened security, mail from strangers to unnamed soldiers must be discarded unopened for everyone’s safety.
Even before these times of “heightened security,” I was sceptical of this type of mail. In 1987, when I was stationed in Okinawa, my Marines chided me for turning them into “Liars.” When the “Overseas Service member” mail was distributed, I wouldn’t let them eat the goodies sent by individuals; I did allow them to have prepackaged goodies sent by service organization (VFW, AmVets, etc). The “liar” bit was in regard to the thank you notes I had them write — i.e, “thank you so much for the delicious Chocolate Chip cookies — they were my favorite…”
Isn’t that weird? As a person who grew up with four channels (ABC, NBC, CBS,CBC), I thought cable would be nonstop amazement. And for a while it was. But so soon it became “a thousand channels and nothing to watch”. I gave it up quite a few years ago and rarely miss it.
The first one even looks like a pimp. Who/what are these self-styled bishops? Maybe they need to look up what this really means and what a bishop does.
Of course the Republican head of the House Committee on Homeland Security says the CO Springs Planned Parenthood shooting wasn’t terrorism. No Muslims or brown people doing the shooting.
Hello TOD on a Sunday Cloudy, Nippy Afternoon.
Congrats to all the Gold :star: winners, starting with this post and the last post.
Safe Journey, Mr. President.
So the mantra since the Friday Terrorist attack in CO is Caution. Don’t jump to any conclusion. Mental issue. Etc. OK. I agree……but to ONLY if that is the New way to approach every Terrorist attack from this day forward.
Exactly Nena, Saying a person has a mental health problem doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t responsible for their actions. Anyone who goes around slaughtering people has a mental problem, in my view. Doesn’t mean they aren’t a terrorist.
The Patriotic Millionaires are a group of more than 200 Americans with annual incomes over $1 million and/or assets of more than $5 million who believe that the country’s current level of economic inequality is both dangerous and immoral. They recognize that while there are many causes of inequality, the current level of economic disparity is largely the result of a multi-decade effort by wealthy elites to enact legislation designed to enhance their personal wealth and their political power. This is done with little or no regard for the negative consequences such policies have on the vast majority of Americans. The Patriotic Millionaires are dedicated to reversing these policies and to ensuring that the legislative capture that led to their adoption comes to an end. To realize that goal, the Patriotic Millionaires focus on a set of issues that best illustrate the difference between legislation that serves the interests of the majority of citizens and that which enriches the few. These issues are taxes, wages and the democratic process. Members expressly support legislation that directly yields:
A fairer tax system that includes greater tax obligations for millionaires and major corporations who have benefitted the most from the nation’s resources;
Higher incomes, beginning with a minimum wage of at least $15 an hour, for wage earners, who are the foundation of our nation’s economy; and
Less political influence for those whose sole credential is the ability to pay for it.
The Patriotic Millionaires’ strategy relies primarily on public education. They seek to use their unique position to expose the ways privileged self-interests influence the country’s legislative process. They also highlight specific policies that best serve the interests of the majority and that can promptly reverse growing levels of economic disparity.

not trying to neutralize; just trying to save everyone a few buck — cards, expensive; postage $0.49…
Suggestion, connect with a VSO (veterans service organization), the USO, or your local VA Hospital or outreach center…

Good afternoon, TOD! Moving slow this am. Going to find coffee, then get my butt in gear to tackle this mountain of work in front of me. BBL.
A thousand channels on tv and there’s nothing to watch.
Good West Coast Morning my Chips and TOD family. A beautiful and safe trip for our wonderful POTUS. We love you, Mr. President.HZ
Well, good west coast morning to you HZ! It’s good to see you this lovely sunshiny Sunday morning. <3
Dudette, I’m disappointed to see Hezekiah Walker’s name listed there too.
Me too! Looks like he opened his eyes though.
