It will end when we vote OUT every NRA supporter.
or, as Chips and Donna put it, never.

Very “exceptional” country, all right. Just not in any positive way.

Heh. Some helpful Tweeter barged into my mentions to call me a dickbag because I employ gallows humor to deal with horror. Kindly told her to go fuck off and blocked her.

Mass shootings? Please call it Terrorism!

How long till this is treated with the same urgency as Terrorists attacking Paris? Why does the US media continues to lower the threat these Terrorists represent? Business as usual….

There should be a massive outcry from the public right now! that the media reports this as what they are: Domestic Terrorism.

..then maybe, just maybe these lawmakers will feel the pressure and make changes in some of these laws.

Unreal…. May they all be safe.

Parliament in the UK is voting shortly (or now) on whether the UK will enter the air war in Syria. A big deal. Labour is strenuously voting “No” but we will see if David Cameron prevails.

    • December 2, 2025 at 4:50 pm

There’s a big split in Labour on this Vicki, anywhere between 40 and 90 are expected to rebel against Corbyn and vote with the government - Corbyn had no choice but to allow a free vote, the whip was unenforceable. Not sure his leadership will ever recover from this, a deeply split party.

      • 45 Vicki
        December 2, 2025 at 5:41 pm

Yes. Going to war is popular. Corbyn had no chance in this one.

        • December 2, 2025 at 5:50 pm

I find it amazing, though - after the Blair/Iraq debacle, Labour had become a seriously anti-war party, and here are 67 of them voting for another ‘intervention’. Very different, I know, to Iraq, but still didn’t think that many would vote for it. Looks like there are a whole heap of Blairites still in that party!

You don’t HAPPEN upon a place like this.

You PLAN to come to a place like this.

You PLAN to come with a DEATH WEAPON to kill people at a place like this.

Please explain to me….WHAT THESE PEOPLE COULD HAVE DONE TO YOU TO OFFEND YOU SO MUCH THAT YOU COME HERE TO MURDER.

The sad fact is that once Democrats stayed home in 2010 and 2014, there was never going to any rational gun legislation from the US Congress. “Staying home” also got us right wing governance in 30 states. Unless we all start speaking up loudly and in unison and unless those who want sensible gun legislation actually go out and vote, we are facing a bleak future. No venue is safe-not our schools, nor our shopping centers, or our places of entertainment, or our cars or our homes. Because too many people neglected their obligations as citizens, we now live and will continue to live in a country in which anyone with a grievance can kill us. As President Obama said, this is not normal and it occurs in no other country on earth. Democrats aren’t perfect, but they try to govern with a ear to the people. Republicans are accountable to no one but big money. This US is now held hostage to the greed and cowardice of those Republican extremists who were elected to Congress in two disastrous waves. They are literally killing this country and they could care less.

      GA JackieG.

Very scary situation indeed, with the killers on the loose — heard the news conference on the radio, and it sounds like it’s gonna take SBPD awhile to get a handle on the situation because of lack of resources (I know the Feds have been called in, but this can’t help):

CA has some of the strictest gun regulations in the US, so don’t know if lack of gun safety regulation is a factor in this shocking event.

Jackie - your statement is incisive. Everyone of us with a Democratic Representative and/or Senator(s) should email this to them and demand passage of gun sense legislation. The brouhaha over trumped-up threats from refugees is a big smokescreen to distract the easily spooked public away from domestic terrorism and to pump up gun sales. Hideous!

Mankind has shown several time over centuries how we’re capable of beauty …but also cruelty. Our political system is broken, the majority of the citizen demand better and stronger gun safety measures. and yet nothing gets done in Congress.

Had a dental appointment, got in the chair everything seemed to be okay. An hour and a half later I got out the chair and a mass shooting had taken place. At this point in time the best you can hope for is that you aren’t around when someone is trying to make a point.

Being in school all day, (and into the evening), I didn’t hear about this until I left at about 7:30. I was listening to a religious program and heard the host say something about the tragedy in San Bernadino. My first thought was - I hope it’s a mudslide or some other natural disaster. Not that a natural disaster would be better, exactly. I just didn’t want it to be another shooter. We have worn out the words people use on these occasions: horrible, tragic, terrible, horrific, we’ve used them so much they have no impact, no meaning any more. No shock, really, just a dull sense of inevitability.
