Mental health issues exist in every country in the world. Only one country has had 350+ mass shootings in 2015.
The difference? Gun access.

Just another day ….. powerful tweets Nerdy, thank you so much.
http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2015/12/02/3727709/lawmakers-offer-prayers-for-mass-shooting-victims-receive-large-checks-from-the-nra/
Following Wednesday afternoon’s mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, which left at least 14 people dead, numerous lawmakers tweeted their “thoughts and prayers” to the victims of the gruesome tragedy. But many of the same congresspeople who were quick to publicly register their feelings about the 352nd mass shooting this year, received thousands of dollars from the National Rifle Association and voted against sensible gun reforms like expanding background checks to more gun purchases.
Was posting on the wrong thread.
+ 1,000,000,000,000,000
What an incredible sad and scary day for so many. Can only pray that victims, families and community can support each other. Past time for doing something meaningful. People deserve more.
Nerdy, thanks for putting this together. I wish I knew what it was going to take to make people say ‘enough.’ What is the death toll that will finally turn it around and get decent people to act? Does the annual murder rate have to be in the millions before we act? Do we have to close all public places and hide out in our homes before we act? What’s it going to take to press those who are supposed to represent us to do something besides mouth platitudes? What’s it going to take to get those who make our laws fear we the people more than the NRA? I don’t know the answer because right now there’s no price that seems too high, no outrage too great for us to collectively demand change. As whole, we in the US haven’t acted as a united and concerned citizenry for so many decades our political muscles have atrophied. A few of us keep fighting, keep donating, keep calling for change, but it needs massive numbers of people who demand nothing less than a complete overhaul of way that guns are regulated, from the strictest possible background checks, to extensive licensing training, to gun insurance, and the right to sue gun manufacturers. It takes an America that’s willing to wake up from its passivity and actually demand that something be done. I wish I could see that happening, but I don’t.
My heart breaks for PBO. He can save the country from a recession, but guns…
I always read the NY Daily News and the Times growing up in NYC. I know the NYDN is hard to pin down politically, but it has been out front on guns.
To willfully and deliberately murder someone, especially someone incapable of defending him or herself, is so heinous it should send shivers down the spine of every decent human being. Every person’s life is connected to other human lives-mothers, fathers, siblings, partners, friends. To kill one person is to hurt the whole link of human beings related to them. So it’s always more than the ones who are are shot and killed. It’s the destruction of families, communities and the links that make us human. When individuals are cruelly murdered, society itself begins to die.

Twitter is pretty quiet about #SBshooting now, no doubt waiting for next press conference at 8:30 PST.
Local CBS radio affiliate @knx1070 is reporting that the tenants of the Redlands apartment being investigated/searched now just recently moved in (middle eastern — see NCLB and LL upthread) and that neighbors have been suspicious ever since because they seemed to be noisily assembling things in the middle of the night.
:(
Damn, if this is true, RWNJs (like Alex Jones) will relentlessly hammer the Middle-Eastern association.
There is no ME connection. This is about hate speech and promoters of violence by the Republican and their angry hateful paranoid violent constituents. They built this.
they can hammer it all they want.
The question will still remain: How did they legally acquire an arsenal?
It doesn’t matter. The GOP and the NRA have won the war on this and white guys will never be considered terrorists and everyone else will be. Logic, science, common sense and people murdered every day isn’t enough to change those who “cling to their guns and Bibles”. I am 100% convinced that nothing will change. The NRA and the gun manufacturers makes so much money off of these events with people stocking up on more guns. The carnage will continue to pile up and these events will become routine. I have already tuned them out more than I would ever think I would. I think if people were to be surveyed most would now consider themselves likely to be a victim of gun violence at some point in the future. I’m not cynical about anything else - even climate change - but I am about this. :(
their venom is expected
We need a laugh.
We need a laugh. Just think of Trump, Cruz, Carson, Bush, Rubio, Christie, and all the others clowns. :).
And now for some GOOD NEWS!
‘ KAILUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
The Coast Guard has begun preparing the security zone in Kailua for President Obama and his family’s annual holiday vacation.
People were given flyers today, warning them of the areas in Kailua that are off-limits during the first family’s visit.
While their arrival has not been announced, the security zone off Kailua Bay will be in effect from December 18 to January 3. ‘

Great to hear. I was wondering about the Obamas Christmas vacation..
Yes. Protect my President and First Family
so does that make three today? California, Texas, and Georgia?
I feel mentally and emotionally exhausted - someone, please stop this madness;
Goodnight, TODville.
finding it hard to sleep;
listened to the police presser and they are still sticking to the explanation that:
- male county employee (5 year employee, environmental health specialist) left the holiday party after dispute;
- returned to the IRC (agency serving the disabled) with another person (now believed to the woman) and started firing - 2 shooter, not three;
- in spite of masks the two were wearing, someone (ppl) at party recognized the male as potential suspect;
- left explosive devices on scene that have been deactivated and escaped in black SUV;
- tips from the public and speculation that male was “that employee” led them to address in Redland;
- male and female shooter died after a brief police chase and shoot out;
- each had two guns in their possession;
- not yet certain what the relationship was between the male (28 years) and female (27 years);
- identification of deceased victims is just beginning because the explosive devices left at IRC center had to be deactivated first;
Funny; NOT FUNNY…
Maybe if the ‘blah people’ were the ones carrying out the massacres we would already have gun control..on the other hand IF not Maybe
One of the best call out of the cowards.
Brilliant. This whole thing is just so mind-numbing wrong, sick and stupid. I can’t think about it without feeling angry, helpless and totally embarrassed for the stupidity of it being seen by the rest of the world.
