Oh, drat, the photos didn’t show up…

Newspaper articles and pics of my Grandmother, Alice Virginia Robinson Nelson, who was the first Black woman on the east coast, and the second in the US, to launch a ship when she christened the SS Vincennes at the Sun Ship Dry Dock and Shipyard in Chester, Pennsylvania, on December 7, 1942.
The first Black woman in the US, was singer Marian Anderson, who christened the SS Booker T. Washington, the first Liberty ship named for an African American, at the California Shipbuilding Corporation shipyard in Wilmington, California, on September 29, 1942.

You’re welcome. I’m a history buff also. Unfortunately, I’m having to reconstruct most of my maternal family history as documents, pictures, and the family Bible were destroyed in a 1959 house fire… I’m determined to gather as much as I can for the younger generations…

Being a family history buff, that is a massive loss. Only have 1 family Bible - it took that branch of our family back to the 1790s with one group coming from a parish where the church records were lost in a fire - so our only source.

Wonderful story about your grandmother - I read about our forebear’s lives and do give thanks for what they achieved for their descendants.

Wow — 1790’s! I’ve only been able to go back to the 1880’s… I’m going to keep digging…

Many good family records from England & Scotland (census and church info) - you should be able to use the US Census records to get back to 1790s if your folks were in the US at that time. I’ve found the different states in the US have maintained quite different records - some are much easier to research than others. My England/Scotland forebears are relatively easy to trace, Irish a disaster (my Irish forebears changed their stories every other month) & I have had very few finds in Europe or Africa.

So far, nothing prior to the 1880 census. Prior to 1863, I’ve no idea whether my ancestors were enslaved or free…

I am so sorry the family Bible was lost. I am so fortunate that the family on my father’s mother’s side is well documented. We have had family reunions in Kansas-Oklahoma for over 50 years, now we also have one in Oregon every 3 years. This last year I did a family history on my mother’s immediate family with all names and addresses of all current cousins. It was fun but alot of work. I don’t know if I could do more yet. Good luck with your project.

Thanks for wishing me luck. This is a labor of love; the unfortunate thing is my Mom is the last of her generation, and as she was significantly younger than her siblings, she not only never knew her grandparents, she wasn’t curious when her parents & siblings were alive… Fortunately, during the last few years of my Aunt’s life, I started asking her lots of questions; this has greatly assisted my research.

Oh, Jer, how I loved this man. If he were alive today, he and PBO would be close friends and confidants. RFK was such a visionary and had a deep understanding of our history and the divisive forces that try to keep this country from achieving its true potential.

So Trump wants to block all Muslims from entering the U.S. Does that include diplomats, U.S. citizens, visitors from all Muslim countries? How long will the media and GOP be silent about this Hitler wannabe?

    // …………………………

All the chest-thumping coming from Republicans is based on an elevated assumption of the real threat posed by ISIS. But that’s what happens when the only card you have to play is fear. Behind all the bravado, their message makes America look weak and easily intimidated. President Obama isn’t buying into that for a minute.

    GE TOD.
Wow! There is No End to Trump’s Racist Behavior?
No GOP RNC Apparatus would stand up to denounce such Xenophobic Ugly and Dangerous Divisive Rhetoric.

Where would the DNC be without PBO? Even with POTUS’ tireless fundraising there are reports that the DNC is very low on funds.

Now?!?!, GOP is starting to rebuke Trump. Way too little. Way too late for me to believe them.
It is getting more difficult for me to see a good ending for our country.

I wonder what the content of a 90 minute chat between PBO and HRC was. That’s a lot of time for even the biggest “ask.”

Oil is less than $38 a barrel today. Anything under $70 per barrel threatens the traditional oil based economy. The oil glut keeps growing. It is amazing to me that this is not mentioned on the campaign trail.

This is how the media enables people like Trump. The LIBERAL media. Note how quick they are to characterize his cowardly and inciteful behavior in positive terms…”like a boss.” As if it’s a damn game.

And notice how the same LIBERAL media would NEVER use those words to describe ANYTHING that PBO does - even things he has been doing “like a boss” for the past seven years.

      Too late, Arianna
MSNBC is still carrying Trump’s speech.
The Donald has pre-empted Tweety’s entire show. Nope—now here is Chris Matthews with 6 minutes left for his show.

This, from a channel that refused to carry POTUS announcing the ACA enrollment numbers.

This from one of Trump’s apologists?
    His tweet sounds apologetic.
This guy is a total joke so are Chuck Todd, JoScar, Fox and the US News Media.
