11:05: The President delivers remarks and signs the Every Student Succeeds Act, South Court Auditorium
Good morning Ms. Chips, Danny and TOD family, I hope all is well with everyone this lovely Thursday morning. Congrats Allison, on being first this morning.
To all, I hope you experience a spirit of humbleness and kindheartedness today. <3<3<3
Thank God that President Obama is still the President of The United States of America. ⭐🏆 ⭐🏆 ⭐🏆
Morning all. I love the way President Obama always takes delight in dancing with Michelle and devotes his full attention to her. Back in the real world, I have managed, in the last half hour, to smash my favorite coffee mug, stub my toe and spend 15 frustrating minutes trying to start my computer. I guess things can only get better.
I like the idea of going back to bed, but who knows what I’ll do the next time I get up. My theory is a day that starts badly, ends well, so I’m hoping for good things to happen by the end of the day. Hope you’re feeling better, Chips.
The coughs seem to go on forever this year. I’ve had a cough for months, as have a lot of people I know. Doctors around here have been saying that it’s the new normal.
They’re true heroes, meta. These guys could be going into hostile situations, so it’s not only the free moving, it’s the sense of security they provide that three strong men are on your side.
FLOTUS is too much; down for anything that can make a difference in the lives of young people. I love how she cracked up at herself at the end. The role and expectations of First ladies has been blown up and out. By simply being herself, she has freed future first ladies from being caged into what others expect of them. We will have no more desperate housewives who are dulling their pain with alcohol and drugs in the White House. The Obamas have brought so much change, and light and a new path for the country to follow. We have been so blessed in so many ways with their service. I pray that we will follow this light into a brighter world for our country in which intelligence, grace, selflessness and skill are valued. We can be so much more than what we are.
Here’s what we don’t see, Bob. We don’t see these heroic women been publicized around the world. We don’t hear of young women being inspired by them and rushing to help. All we hear about is the inadequacy of the response to ISIL and about the young people who are rushing off to join the terrorists. I would love to see a first rate producer make a documentary on these brave women. I would like to see their story told on college campuses and in magazines and blogs. I would like to have had these women become the Person of the Year at TIME and I would like people to become as excited about them as they did the US women’s soccer team.
Thanks, Bob. This news will never get in the media and so people will continue to be ignorant of what’s actually happening in the effort to contain and eliminate ISIL. What people will continue to hear are strident, ill-informed bloviators demanding a ground war.
GOP timid in condemning Trump anti-Muslim plan

So, Rikyra, read another way: 52 percent of NC Republicans do NOT endorse the idea of a national database of Muslims; 56 percent of NC Republicans do NOT believe NJ Muslims cheered on 9/11; 65 percent of NC Republics do NOT support shutting down mosques; and 68 percent of NC Republicans, do NOT believe that practicing Islam in the US should be illegal. So the majority of Republicans in a red state that has been a breeding ground for bigotry do NOT support Donald Trump’s poison spewing. And that doesn’t begin to assess Independents and Dems. Yes, it’s disgusting that so many Republicans reject the constitution and embrace bigotry, but this kind of bile has been aimed at them for decades. The gullible, the miserable and the ignorant embrace the hate speech because it gives them a handy scapegoat for all their fears and inadequacies.
Df, I think Nancy’s conclusion is very important. The fear mongering is not just from the Loudmouth, it’s coming from every Republican candidate. It’s what that party has chosen to become and I DO NOT believe it represents the majority of Americans.
Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family.
We have fog so bad that LAX planes have been grounded and they don’t expect the fog to lift till 10am. Yikes!

@lawalazu Its funny how they are all shocked today when they looked the other way when Trump was going full birther on PBO
KSK(africa) @lawalazu
LEST WE FORGET nothing Trump is saying is different from any of the other GOP candidates or Ryan and others in DC. They all feel the same.
KSK(africa) @lawalazu
So, don’t let the media try to paint any of them better than Trump, not that I give a whit about Trump. You hear one GOP, you here all.
Trump’s sin was that he said aloud what they say in private, insinuate, encourage their base to spew. All he did was expose all of them.
KSK(africa) @lawalazu
So, if you believe that suddenly Ryan or any of those publicly disagreeing with Trump is being anything but disingenuous, bite me.
KSK(africa) @lawalazu
What I reject is the media trying to manipulate us to think that GOP is not in lockstep in their hate.
KSK(africa) @lawalazu
You will recall that it is the same MSM & GOP that showed no outrage when Trump went on a campaign to sully PBO. MSM gave him a platform.
KSK(africa) @lawalazu
So, color me unimpressed when Brokaw came out to condemn Trump recently. Where was he when Trump began testing the waters w/lies abt PBO?
KSK(africa) @lawalazu
My thought is that without MSM, Trump would not be spewing his bile. But because of GOP, he is able to. They all think the same way.
KSK(africa) @lawalazu
MSM has been a full partner in GOP ugliness, not to mention Trump’s rise. Watch how they cover domestic terrorism.
“So, color me unimpressed when Brokaw came out to condemn Trump recently. Where was he when Trump began testing the waters w/lies abt PBO?”
Damn right, I remember Brokaw sitting up on Morning Joe early into President Obama’s first term and talking all kinds of shit about President Obama, fuck Brokaw.
Scalia makes racially charged argument in affirmative-action case
12/09/15 03:45 PM—UPDATED 12/09/15 05:05 PM
By Steve Benen
About a month ago, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia spoke to first-year law students at Georgetown, where he drew a parallel between gay people, pedophiles, and child abusers. What would he do for an encore?
This morning, the high court heard oral arguments in a Texas case on affirmative action and the use of race in college admissions, and NBC News reported that Scalia “questioned whether some minority students are harmed by the policy because it helped them gain admittance to schools where they might not be able to academically compete.”
At first blush, that sounds pretty racist, so let’s check the official transcript:
“There are – there are those who contend that it does not benefit African Americans to to get them into the University of Texas where they do not do well, as opposed to having them go to a less-advanced school, a less – a slower-track school where they do well.
“One of – one of the briefs pointed out that – that most of the – most of the black scientists in this country don’t come from schools like the University of Texas. They come from lesser schools where they do not feel that they’re – that they’re being pushed ahead in – in classes that are too too fast for them.”
If we were to go out of our way to be charitable, I suppose we could emphasize the fact that Scalia prefaced these comments by saying “there are those who contend.” In other words, maybe the far-right justice himself isn’t making such an ugly argument, so much as the justice is referencing an offensive argument from unnamed others?
It is, to be sure, a stretch. At no point did Scalia say he disagrees with “those who contend” that African-American students who struggle at good universities and are better off at “a slower-track school.”
David Plouffe, a former aide to President Obama, highlighted Scalia’s quote this afternoon and asked a pertinent question: “Motivation lacking for 2016?”
Rkyrah, if Democrats don’t see the Supreme Court as a justification for racing to the polls in 2016, then they’re living in Lala land and will end up destroying us all.
I wonder what rock Scalia has been living under for the past 30yrs….I guess the Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson and Neil deGrasse Tyson went to one of those “slow track” schools like Yale and Harvard, respectively.
And, the wonderful humanity that Jesse L. Martin brings to the show cannot be beat. He roots the show with a sincerity that cannot be faked. I admit..I got a lump in my throat in that final scene with Barry this week.
Sadly, I’ve not gotten into the show beyond the first 4 or 5 episodes. I really must plan a binge catchup sometime, cuz people are always talking about it. But I am indeed a fan of Jesse L. Martin. [swoon!]
I will not link to Fox, but here’s their latest poll results.
And, I will continue to say this…

The problem is NOT Donald Trump. The problem for the GOP is that even if he is a Manchurian Candidate for Hillary…..
He is speaking the language of NOT a ‘sliver’ of the GOP..

Fox News has released the results of a new survey of Republican primary voters in South Carolina, which shows Trump with 35% support, far ahead of Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio, who are each about 20 points behind the frontrunner.
…………………………………………..
The poll, released Wednesday, was conducted Saturday through Tuesday evenings. Trump made provocative remarks Monday about barring Muslims from entering the United States.
It looks like his comments help him in South Carolina. Support for Trump increased eight points after his statement — from 30 percent the first two nights vs. 38 percent the last two nights.
It’s early yet. Give him time. Aside from a few grunts, grumbles and menacing glances, it takes a little more work for the evil juice to bubble up to the vocal chords.
The petition went on Parliament’s e-petition website on Tuesday.
It was posted in response to Mr Trump’s call for a temporary halt on Muslims entering the United States.
Chancellor George Osborne criticised Mr Trump’s comments but rejected calls for him to be banned from the UK.
A counter-petition, set up on Wednesday, saying Mr Trump should not be banned as it would be “totally illogical” has attracted more than 9,000 signatures.
Any petition with more than 100,000 signatures is automatically considered for debate in Parliament.
Lots of overnight news, thanks Meta, Bobfr for bringing here.

I like your positive thinking, Jackie! Feeling much better, thank you, just can’t get rid of this blasted cough. Grr.

This was inspired by gcLinda’s kind comment in the previous thread ….
Yes WE Can
You betcha ‘it can happen here’ unless we have the most massive voter turnout, on 8 Nov 2016, in the history of US elections ….
And, the US media is obviously ‘all in’ with the bigoted fascists attempting to take control of America ….
more updates in the sidebar …. wishing all of you a most excellent Thursday …. bbl if I can …. oh, and amk, hope your ‘very short’ presentation received a standing ovation! :)
Reminder!
because this is who they are:
Public Policy Polling published results yesterday on GOP voters’ attitudes in North Carolina. Among the findings:
* 48% of North Carolina Republicans endorse the idea of a national database of Muslims.
* 42% of North Carolina Republicans believed thousands of Middle Easterners cheered in New Jersey on 9/11.
* 35% of North Carolina Republicans support shutting down American mosques.
* 32% of North Carolina Republicans believe practicing Islam in the United States should be illegal.
