This what it looked like in Portland for our #Orange Walk. We had the Governor, Mayor, Head of Moms Demand Action Shannon Watts, and parent survivors Andy and Barbara Parker and about 2-300 hardy souls attend.

Just listened to Lindsay Graham on C-Span, a replay of his remarks before a town hall in Iowa, last Thursday. When Lindsay Graham starts sounding reasonable (in connection with Trump, but not much else), we know the Republican political process has gone mad. Collectively. He tells Trump the bully to stop the threats and go ahead and leave the party, if he can’t take it, and not to let the door hit him in the butt.

So glad we are not any of THEM.

Graham: Trump winning because GOP voters think Obama is Kenyan-born Muslim http://hill.cm/WMqwcVR

No who on earth has been spreading the story for 7 years that PBO is a Kenyan-born Muslim - Sen Graham sure would know them all very well.

Had this conversation last night with someone I never thought would be unable to see the President as transformational. This man seems very mixed up to me, and so much like Bernie Sanders. One thing I noticed was that he had supposedly firm positions on “foreign policy” which he thinks don’t agree with the President. He reminded me he traveled to DC to protest the Vietnam war. There was so much to think about in the exchange but one thing I noticed for sure was that whatever factual information didn’t mesh with his position (cynicism) he was just too busy to follow. Whatever label should be placed on these folks, they are just as challenged by self awareness as the Tea Party types. This guy somehow made it seem as if keeping up on the issues, even the ones he purportedly cares about, is not worth his effort. I have decided its self centeredness versus other centeredness that is the divide whether its coming from the left, right or center. This guy was giving himself kudos for being an original peace nik but didn’t care about the climate summit, didn’t care about the Libya conference, didn’t care about the Iran deal. I call bs.

Thank God for our President and the people who so generously work for us at his side. I hope in some small way that I can have his back whenever the opportunity presents itself. That’s all I ask for. Also thank God for this site.

The rate at which Americans commit suicide with guns has been increasing for several years, even as the rate of gun homicides has declined. Research shows that the increase is correlated with higher gun ownership. Public health experts say ready access to firearms makes it easier for people to act on suicidal thoughts. And about 85 percent of suicide attempts that involve guns are successful, compared with less than 3 percent of those involving drug overdoses. Over all, guns were used in about half of the 41,000 suicides in 2013, the latest year for which there is data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

These numbers are all the more tragic because suicide is a leading cause of death among young people. And contrary to the conventional wisdom that people who are determined to end their lives will find a way to do so, 90 percent of people who survive suicide attempts do not eventually die by suicide.
