TY, Dakota :) I will finally have some time to catch up with the TOD family over the next few weeks!
Thanks again for asking … he’s got his next evaluation with a new surgeon in Chicago, in early January, and then we’ll know when they’ll be doing what we hope is the final post-up surgery (due to post-op complications from the first surgery in June). He’s so glad he’s going to be able to - more or less - put the next step out of his mind until after the holidays!
That is great to hear and I’m so happy that he will get to spend time with family over the holidays…not the hospital!

The Afghan Taliban say they have unleashed “special forces” in an increasingly bloody battle with fighters from the rival, so-called Islamic State (IS) group. The Taliban’s dominance and monopoly on insurgency in a region home to numerous local and foreign militant groups is being challenged by IS, which has been gaining some support. Who’s winning the war of the militants?
How many Taliban special forces are fighting Islamic State?
According to Taliban sources, the special task force, part of the Taliban’s special forces command, was set up in early October and has more than 1,000 fighters - better equipped and trained than regular Taliban and with the sole aim of crushing IS.
Special ops teams are handpicked for their fighting skills and experience and are active in all provinces where IS has a current or potential presence - including Nangarhar, Farah, Helmand and Zabul. But Taliban special forces will deploy anywhere against IS, leaving other Taliban to fight Afghan and foreign troops.

Bear: Would ever encourage your girls to go into politics?
PBO: No. But they came to me and said they wanted go into elected office I would be completely supportive, because I think it can be noble work, if done for the reasons the right way. What I try to teach my daughters is be useful and be kind… and if you do those two things, wherever your passions take you, you’ll turn out okay…
Bear: Kind is such a big one. It’s not complicated is it? Sometimes we have a journey in life to come around to realizing actually that is it.
PBO: Try to be useful to somebody and try to kind.

“….Q: Can you talk a little bit about your impression of him and what kinds of things did you guys do together?
Bear Grylls: Well, my overriding impression was just he’s a really humble, family-centered, lovely guy. I mean, of course, the times along the route I have to kind of pinch myself and think actually, this is the president of America. And I think there’s a connection when you’re out in the wild with someone. I always say it’s the ultimate learning. One of the big reasons he wanted to do this, that he wanted to see some of the effects of climate change close up. He’s a dad and he wants to preserve the planet for his children’s future and I feel exactly the same way. I spend all of my life charging around the world and all of these wildernesses and I see the harsh reality of climate change close up. We want to make sure our children get to enjoy these wonderful wildernesses. So there is a great connection there. But also my overriding thing was actually what a really lovely guy. And he was excited to be there and it was fun to be able to kind of pull each other’s leg a little bit. In a way that if you just sort of meet someone in the White House with an interview situation, it’s difficult to do. But you’re out there and you kind of light fire together and climb up trees and, you know, half eaten salmons and talking about flatulence and the berries and all of that gets out. So huge privilege but definitely a fair side of the president you never see before….continued”

I just finished watching PBO & Bear and it was wonderful. PBo’s words for all to live by which i know from reading the book about his mom she instilled in him, “be useful and be kind”. The show ending in a prayer was the best. How people can continue to hate PBO is beyond rational thinking.

Just finished watching this program on the West coast. I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of why and how much I truly love this man, this President Obama. And Bear Gryllis helped to bring out both the public policy of care for the earth and the total wisdom of this great man who is our President.
