Merry Christmas to you Chips and the wonderful inhabitants of TOD community! May joy, peace and goodwill continue to dispel sorrow and sadness from our hearts.
School opened here in September with one of our most beloved early childhood teachers. I went to her school that first day and spoke with her; she was her usual effervescent and smiling self – a quality that endeared her to everyone, especially her little students. By the middle of the second week, however, she passed away in England. She was only 36 years old. It was reported that she suddenly started to feel unwell, and was thereafter diagnosed with liver cancer. She was immediately sent to England for medical care, but it was too late.
I went to our Christmas service this morning and saw her mother. Her face was so sad as I greeted her; it was obvious that grief still held her in its cold palms. I came home feeling somewhat down because apart from missing my own mother who died over 50 years ago, I knew someone whose Christmas was not going to be as cheerful as it should be; a mother who was hurting because her first born was no longer around.
Then I read your post, and it filled me with hope; hope that time will dim the sorrow in our hearts, and that the pleasant memories of those who have left us will certainly endure. Thank you, and God bless you.
Prayer warrior, I’m so sorry for the loss of this wonderful teacher at such an early age. My heart goes out to her mother and to all those who are dealing with loss on this special day. And thank you for the message of hope. Bless you,

Happy Christmas Jackie!!!! I was saying yesterday that my family had threatened to give me for Christmas behavioral classes for Danny - I will find out in a couple of hours if they carried this threat through. If they have, then TOD will be my only family from thereon in.
And we will welcome you with open arms, after that good Christmas morning chuckle you gave us, Chips! Good Christmas morning to you and Danny!

We’re still nursing Kasper and I need to call the surgical center with a few questions this morning. Hopefully the scary symptoms are normal. He’s eating and has some energy, thank god.
{{57}} The main thing is that Kasper is eating, I’d be reassured by that, but for peace of mind that call will do the trick. Give him double hugs for me!

[Sigh] I remember how strange it felt the first time when, instead of me being awaken at 4 and 5 AM to open presents, *I* had to wait for child to awaken. Today, I am the only one up right now, so I’m sitting back and relaxing to Christmas music.

Dudette, have you ever seen these guys? Not Christmas related, but pretty fantastic! My daughter was in marching band from 7th grade through her last year in college. Brass and percussion are my favorites! (She played trumpet).
Merry Christmas to all in whatever time zone you live. Today is our ‘quiet Christmas’ with a few friends stopping by. Tomorrow the riotous Christmas begins as our little one and her parents arrive. Then it’s nonstop energy for three days. I hope everybody’s day is filled with love and the sense of peace as everyone pauses to savor the magic of this special time.

Chips, I missed your post about your father yesterday and when I read it this am, it opened so many memories of my very brief years with my own father (I was five years old when he died) and of my mother, who died in January 1999. My father was the most joyous, generous, loving man I’ve ever known and he would literally open the house on holidays and invite every one he knew. He loved people and I never remember a time when he wasn’t hopeful and cheerful. When he died Christmases were bleak because my mother couldn’t cope and it wasn’t until I had my own family that I was able to recreate some of the joy my father spread around him. The point is fathers make such a profound difference on our lives, imprinting our souls and making us who we are. I’m glad your father gave you the imprint he did.

It is not just TOD who are wowed by President Obama singing “Amazing Grace” during his eulogy in SC. The New York Times editorial this morning calls it a highlight of the year!!!
Today is not about family for me (I”m Jewish) but about friends. I will be having Christmas dinner with my friends who usually do a Christmas Eve Feast of the 7 Fishes menu. This year they decided to do a Christmas Dinner instead.
The main course will be ham. So I’m a little nervous because while not keeping kosher, still some notions of “traife” persist and I don’t eat pig . Since this is something I never mention because I think folks who are always telling you what they eat and can’t eat for whatever reason are rude and boring, my longtime friends aren’t aware of this. My plan is to eat enough ham so that I call no attention to myself and fill up on all the trimmings.

Today’s entry in my Series called “Good News in the News” is NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio’s using an executive action to provide 20,000 City Workers with 12 weeks paid parental leave.
The leave will be paid for by these workers yielding 2 of their 27 paid vacation days and by the managers amongst them forfeiting a .47 cent raise that would be due.
The Mayor hopes to extend this humane and sensible policy to All City workers in the near future.
