Happy New Year from Lurkerland (aka Iowa). A day of massive emotions here – early this morning, my dad passed away after a lengthy illness. :-( Yet today is my last day at work, as I am retiring after 31 years. :-) The timing didn’t quite work out on that one. My dad was a pretty liberal 87.5 year old Democrat, I definitely will miss discussing politics with him!

Oh wow {{{{muscatinegal}}}}, I bet you do have a tidal wave of emotions rolling inside you today. Take it slow and remember your dad is no longer in any pain or discomfort. You will always have him with you in your heart and your memories.

Then may you enjoy retirement and all it has to offer.

So sorry muscatinegal. Hope you were able to spend a lot of quality time with your dad this year. I imagine you were hoping that once you retired you could spend even more time with him, I am so sorry. He is at peace but always with you…..

Wow, muscatinegal, you’re going it through some major life changes all at once. I’m happy for you in your retirement. 31 years is a very long time. I hope you found it rewarding and will be able to pursue new passions and live happily in the months and years to come.

I’m very sorry to hear about your Dad. May the love of your family and close friends surround you with warm and loving memories.

Remember to take very good care of yourself - mind, body, and spirit. Be at peace. Be well.

Thanks all for your kind wishes. A strange thing happened - I woke up at 1:53AM, which is very out of the ordinary for me. Later found out that’s about when my dad passed away. Perhaps he was thinking of me then. :-)

Oh, muscatinegal, I can’t imagine what a difficult time this is for you. No matter how much you may think you’re prepared for the loss of a parent, it’s still a terrible blow. And changing the pattern of a lifetime is a serious adjustment. Please allow yourself time to grieve and to find your way in this time of transition. And please, please, let us know how you are.

The Queen’s New Year Honors list has been announced, and once again, several leading British actors have been awarded for their services to drama.
    http://www.people.com/article/idris-elba-recieves-obe-award

Golden Globe nominees Idris Elba and David Oyelowo are both to be awarded an OBE. Elba, 43, known for his role in the hit BBC crime drama Luther, has described the honor as “beyond special,” while Oyelowo, who played Martin Luther King Jr. in 2014’s Selma, explained why the award has particular sentimental meaning.

With 1,196 people on this year’s list, which recognizes the achievements and services of extraordinary people across the United Kingdom, more than three-quarters of recipients have undertaken outstanding work in their communities.

NOTE: I think we should bring Chipsticks’ outstanding work in her community to the Queen’s attention. Chips deserves to receive this award too!

Don’t read the comments. I swear sometimes I wish there was a way where, one day of the year, you could take one good shot at either bopping stupid, mean people on the head with a nerf bat or making bird poop drop on their heads from the comfort of your computer screen.
