Thank you, Nerdy, for the change of pace. It’s been a tense day with the idiot terrorists in Oregon and the escalating tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran. I’ll bet our President would like to turn around and go back to Hawaii for a while longer. I know I would.

They’d have had to drag me kicking and screaming back onto the plane. Not a good look for a world leader, which is why I’m not one.

That would work if 5 of the 50 States had Open Carry laws.
There are now, 45……TX brought that number to 45 of the 50 States. USA is going backwards on Gun Sense Laws.

The NRAs strategy for open carry in every state is near fruition…i did not realize that we were 5 states away from the whole country being open carry…wow…have we been asleep ….mercy

I’m betting that in some of those states, there is a large proportion of people who do not like open carry. We have to do it by boycotting, business by business Maybe in each state there will be enough people to make an impact that way even though they don’t have enough votes to change their legislature.

yes i agree with that…business by business…the President has said that if we need to be a single issue voter…than so be it…

The quickest way to start reversing these dastardly Open Carry and Conceal and Carry Laws is to have Brown and Black people Unite and do what the Black Panthers did in the 1960s in California. Carry their own Guns in an organized fashion to the Capitol of all these States. Then followed by law suits should they be treated differently……challenging the “Privileged” treatment of the Majority Vs the harsh treatment of the Black and Brown Communities.

The police would annihilate us…just as they did the Black Panther Party…

i understand the irony of what you propose but as we have seen…open carry only applies to white folks…

Saudi Arabia’s oil revenues are way way way down due to falling price for oil.
That fact probably goes a good way towards explaining their current panicky War efforts.
The Kingdom has escalated its attacks against the Houthis in Yemen. Yemen is one of the poorest countries on the planet—-no resources and running out of water. What can this conflict possibly be about? Proxy war? Sunni(SA)versus Shia(Iran?)

Now the Saudis are inciting Iran. That is more understandable. Iran is a modern country with a vast well-educated middle class. Natural allies of America just as we were before the USA sabotaged the rightfully elected President Mosadegh replacing his democratic government with the Shah. Yes, that’s right. We were on the WRONG side. Your RW GOP was in charge, I think. I’m going to google that history and if I’ve misled TOD I’ll correct.

The specter of a USA/Iranian alliance terrifies both Israel and Saudi Arabia. RW Totalitarian Warlike states. Which will be a description of us if the GOP wins the WH. Or a Corporate Democrat, maybe. Let’s hope not.

So far, SA has succeeded in sabotaging Syrian peace talks. No telling where this will lead.

Make no mistake about it. There is one big question here.
It is about Who controls the oil and the world?

The Kingdom and Israel and Egypt(maybe?) have one idea.
Iran and Russia have a different idea.
    ISIS a third idea.

I trust President Obama to have already sorted this out in his own mind and formulated a plan for us.

the gathering of countries in France to address climate change…and the move away from fossil fuels is their greatest threat….as the world move towards re-newables there will be some countries who will leap frog over fossil fuels altogether….

We are in agreement prettyfoot, as we are so often.

        Not always, tho.
I didn’t agree that anybody here lacks respect for our beloved President and our comments on his appearance are an agreement reached early on TOD about openly admiring every inch of POTUS without having to feel embarrassed.. His hands. His feet. How his Malysian shirt fits him—on and on.

    From Jim Wright..
a lil long but worth the read…

In reality, the smartest thing the government can do is simply wait the Bundy Militia types out.
    - Do nothing unless it appears lives are in imminent danger.
    - Establish a perimeter outside of rifle range, do nothing to escalate the situation, do not allow law enforcement to be provoked. Wait them out.
    - Unless lives are in imminent danger, do not use deadly force. No Ruby Ridge, no Waco, no martyrs.
    - Do NOTHING to damage public property or endanger the protected wildlife which is the entire purpose of the sanctuary in the first place.
    - Cordon off the area and wait. They’ll get hungry by and by. When they do, allow them to walk to the perimeter control point, lay down their weapons in full view of the cameras, and surrender individually to law enforcement. Treat them humanely. Charge them with making terroristic threats under the Patriot Act, and/or with trespass, illegal occupation, littering, damage to public property, violation of the Endangered Species Act, and so on. Do NOT charge them with Sedition or Treason or any other thing that legitimizes their action, i.e. don’t make them into a cause célèbre. Treat them as common criminals not freedom fighters.
    - Bill them for any damage to the property, including any damage to habitat or wildlife.

There is a precedent for this.

From November 1969 to June 1971, members of a radical group who called themselves Indians of All Tribes (IOAT) occupied Alcatraz Island. The IOAT believed they had a right to the land, just as the Bundy militia believes they have a right to federal land. The occupation of Alcatraz was very high profile and was initially supported by a number of prominent politicians and celebrities. The federal government waited them out despite the fact that several members of the occupying IOAT were killed in an accident and federal property was EXTENSIVELY damaged. Eventually the occupiers got sick and hungry and tired and disillusioned and they surrendered one by one until the government cut off power and sent in federal officers to forcibly arrest the remaining 15 or so protesters.

The two situations are not strictly analogous. And there are certainly lessons to be learned from how Alcatraz was handled and the aftermath. But, the primary lesson here is that the situation CAN be resolved without driving tanks through the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge or turning these drooling dipshits into martyrs.

If the government kills even one of these idiots, the militia will have won the day. That’s exactly what they want.
    ..

January 3, 2025 about 11:00 PM I saw the Electoral Results that shook the world. I was jumping up and down crying and screaming. Unforgettable. Joy beyond describing.

I doubt any election night will ever be as sweet as the primaries and caucuses of 2008 and the general election of 2012 were for me. This year I vote. Period.

On 1/3/2025 I didn’t understand the US primaries, let alone what the Iowa caucus was - It was also the first time I heard of a guy called Barack Obama & like millions, I thought the US will never vote for the black guy.

So I’ve learned so much in the past 8 years - and was I wrong with that first point of view :)

      Obama’s Historic Victory
I suspect he was thinking bigger, back to Martin Luther King — and King’s dream that someday his children would not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

That day has now come, at the highest level of American politics. A black man with a dangerous-sounding foreign name trounced his opponents in the nearly all-white state of Iowa. And he did so because, after spending months getting to know him, the people of Iowa stopped seeing his color and began to admire his character.

      ————————————————

And I do cry - when I realise that a small number of GOPers - aided 100% by the US media, decided people should see the color of his skin, and forget the content of his character
