Am I alone? I had a back and forth with my nephew last night and of course his first thing was the fake tears from our President. I just about went off the wall. I had to calm down before I answered. He voted for him and now he hates him with a passion and he can’t even explain why. Of course, it’s all going to be “he’s coming for your Guns” I am still upset this morning. BBL.
Thank God for this place.
Morning, Roberta. There will be people-even family members-that you can’t reach because they’ve been corrupted by the media and can no longer think clearly. Step away from it, if you can and spread the truth to those who will listen.
Thanks Jackieg. you are right, sometimes it isn’t so easy. He is on my power of attorney and the rest of my medical crap. We have been friends since he was born, sometimes I am closer to him than my own children. This too will pass, especially when this President is no more.
Hi Roberta, take heart! Sometimes time is the best teacher, and people learn the lessons that they are supposed to. Your nephew’s behavior is immature, and hopefully at some point after PBO has left the oval office, he will realize how good he had it…
I am truly beginning to love The Daily News. They’ve been hitting a lot of balls out of the park lately and I wish more media outlets had half their courage.
Yup. They have been unafraid of rwnj’s unlike the boneless msm. Even bbc was all about how the thugs feelings were hurt and they were calling ugly names instead of actually explaining how this gun control is plain old common sense and proper enforcement of existing laws.
Mort Zuckerman, the owner, is a Social Liberal as well as a Republican. He is the old-style “Rockefeller Republicans” that I grew up with.
Decent men. Jack Javits, Mayor Lindsay. A breed that has pretty much died out leaving the GOP as a party of dunces and evil.
Mort is buddies with Mike Bloomberg and on the gun issue they are united with PBO.
Perfect.

In an emotional and, at times, tear-filled address, President Obama on Tuesday vowed to do something about the plague of gun violence and flexed his muscle via executive powers in an effort to slow the flood of firearms sales and help keep weapons out of the hands of potential gunmen. “People are dying and the constant excuses for inaction no longer do, no longer suffice,” he said. Morning Chips and TODers. One recurring theme we’ve heard in the President’s statements lately is that the great mass of decent Americans who are appalled by gun violence and the continued bad judgment of the US Congress have to speak with louder voices. He keeps telling us that the other side has “loud voices,” but they are not necessarily greater in number or more powerful. I think many of us feel overwhelmed by the stridency of the right wing and their willingness to say any vile thing and tend to draw back to avoid ugly confrontations. PBO is asking us to fight back, not just with our vote, but also with our voices and yesterday he showed us that we can do this with passion, without descending to level of rudeness and in your face aggressiveness that defines the political tactics on the right. His message is that persistent, passionate voices and organizing the vote are tools are more powerful than vileness and insults.
I bet these guys never thought about being arrested and charged with a Federal felony. When convicted they will all have to surrender their stockpiles of guns. teehee.
The latest private payroll report from ADP showed a larger-than-expected increase in jobs during the month of December.
Private payrolls jumped by 257,000, way more than the 198,000 that was expected by economists.
Job gains were evenly spread across small, medium, and large businesses in December.
By industry, the largest number of jobs were added in the professional/business services sector and trade/transportation/utilities work.
Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody’s Analytics, said, “Strong job growth shows no signs of abating. The only industry shedding jobs is energy. If this pace of job growth is sustained, which seems likely, the economy will be back to full employment by mid-year. This is a significant achievement, given that the last time the economy was at full employment was nearly a decade ago.”
SoCal TODers, it is really just POURING rain in SF right now. Lots and lots of lightning from Santa Cruz to Big Sur.
Are you getting any of this? If not now, soon, I’m sure!
This is a wild storm. I live at the top of a hill and the water is just streaming down like a river. It’s a thrill for now but I hope there isn’t any a lot of damage from serious flooding and consequences of people driving crazy.
Stay safe. It NEVER rains much here, as you know, so when it rains for a WEEK STRAIGHT….everything floods and people get batshit crazy with patience, driving (driving in the rain in the desert is like other people driving in the snow:) It’s bonkers!
Good morning TOD FAMILY. We got tons of rain and snow in SoCal yesterday and more expected later today. We had mudslides in some areas. Be safe meta and my SoCal friends.
Last night i saw local news and one was in the hills around Monrovia and in the burn areas not sure where. There was a lot of flooding on the streets in certain areas that always floods in SoCal.
We are expected to get your weather by around noon today through Thursday. We had lots of rain yesterday. Today is round 2 or 3, and then Saturday is the final day of rain expected in So Cal of these series of storms. I love it!
I thought that CEB wrote a beautiful thought on the previous thread…if someone wants to bring it over, that would be great…it’s lovely and well worth sharing….I would do it, but I keep trying and my computer isn’t cooperating with me this morning…must be the rain:) It’s at the end of the last post….thanks:)
It is 6:25 am EST and I am probably writing this for myself only, but I am still so affected by the president’s heart-wrenching speech yesterday and I wanted to get out somethings that i have been meditating on from the time PBO came to national attention to this present day.
Everything that I have learned about being a true Christian I have learned from the example set by Barack Hussein Obama:
1. How and husband and father should love his family with intention and attention and to show that this is the most important thing in his life.
2. To see and to respond with active love to “the least among us.” He really sees people in a way that recognizes their unique humanity whether they are the very young, the old and infirm, the prisoner, the low wage worker, the homeless veteran, the abused, those with disabilities, the forgotten, the marginalized and so many more.
3. With great joy he more than “suffers the little children to come unto him”: he seeks them out, loves being around them and sees each for the soul with great possibilities.
4.He does not deal in vengeance, be it personal or political even though he has been lied on, threatened and treated with such ugly disrespect. He treats those who “despitefully use him” with courtesy and respect; still willing to work with them to try to bring about the good that will benefit so many. PBO is to busy and spiritual to spend time and energy trying to get back at people and because he knows and understands that: “Vengeance is mine, says the Lord: I will repay.”
5. He has shown us what hope really is: the faith in things not seen, but worked for with patience and courage. Hope is not some nebulous, airy-fairy thing; it is gritty and determined; it is surety in the face of extreme adversity and heartbreak; it is love.
6. Even though we may grow weary in doing the right thing, we do not faint. We hold on to the uplifting faith, kind thoughts and prayers of others to carry us on through the fight until the goal is reached.
7.Courage is quiet and steadfast: .”Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.”
8. Laughter, a strong mind and body, and the company of loyal friends and colleagues can help us get through the difficult times. No one is meant to go through life without these things and they are always there for us if we reach out for them.
9 Talent and ability are nice, but without hard work, focus, and faith, they will only get you so far.
10. Love is the core for everything that we do.
There is so much more running through my mind, but writing this has helped me to settle down a bit. So thankful to have this safe place to come to to share my rambling ruminations. have a wonderful day, TOD ohana.
Qaddafi spoke as much in a Gathering of Arab Nations many years ago. He firmly called out the King of Saudi Arabia while he was in attendance and accused the King as the main catalyst and instigator in the Arab world with Terrorism, Conflicts and the inability to solve problems instead of escalating problems. This was before the Iraq war. It must have been in 2002 or in 2003.
Good morning Ms. Chips, Danny and TOD family, I hope all is well with everyone this lovely Wednesday morning. Congrats Roberta, on being first this morning.
The greatest start of the day is when you wake-up in the morning and have all your faculties and mobility. If you don’t think so, try not waking up.
To all, I hope you have an exquisite, heavenly, and satisfying day today. <3<3<3
Thank God that President Obama is still the President of The United States of America. ⭐🏆 ⭐🏆 ⭐🏆
Marco Rubio said Obama’s approach “undermines” the Second Amendment, but he didn’t (and couldn’t) say how. Carly Fiorina said the president’s incremental changes to implementing current law are “lawless,” but she offered nothing in the way of substantiation.
This isn’t just about pointing and laughing at the inanity of criticisms so painfully foolish that Republican voters ought to feel insulted. It’s not even about the degree to which yesterday helped prove why policy debates are effectively impossible in D.C. right now.
Rather, the broader point here is that Republicans have abandoned the pretense of seriousness. The dirty little secret, which went largely unmentioned yesterday, is that GOP officials simply couldn’t find any specific problems with the White House’s plan, so they screamed bloody murder just for the sake of doing so.
The lobbying arm of the National Rifle Association, for crying out loud, was willing to say on the record in reference to Obama and his team, “They’re not really doing anything.” Republicans understood this, but they had to break with the NRA, go through the motions, and throw a tantrum anyway, because in their minds, that’s what the political circumstances require.
It was a rather pathetic spectacle, even by contemporary standards, on an issue of great national significance. Republicans didn’t spend the day outraged; they spent the day lying. The difference matters.
Points to ponder…they “spent the day lying” Just like they ALWAYS DO. I hope most people are figuring this out…
“Lying” is actually the chief political tactic on the right and because they’re never called on it, they continue to lie with impunity. The difference in a presidential election year is that more people are paying attention. Republican presidential candidates have decided that appealing to the narrowest possible base of paranoid, ignorant, racist, misogynist white men is a winning strategy for them and it seems to work very well in the primaries. But the rest of us are listening now and what we’re hearing is not going to help any of them in a general election.
Another thing that PBO showed us yesterday is that crying is NOT weakness, it’s strength when it demonstrates the depth of your compassion. Our president is absolutely fearless in the face of enemies as he’s shown time and time again in national politics and with dictators and terrorists around the world, but he’s never interpreted masculinity as lack of feeling for others. He allows himself to fully empathize with those who are in pain or grieving. Republican politicians, being less evolved think in-your-face aggression and macho posturing make them seem like powerful men (or women in the case of Fiorina). We have to take back civil discourse in this country by spurning (and mocking) macho swagger and showing that we’re neither impressed nor intimidated.
They depend on the Lazy, Lame, Corrupt Mainstream News Media and their well oiled Media Echo Chamber to do their dastardly misinformation for them….24/7 non-stop.
Hi rikyrah. If Trump can undermine Cruz with his (Trump’s) followers, then that destroys Cruz’s path forward. He’s hoping that Trump will collapse and his supporters will turn to him-the next crazy in line. If the Trump crowd has been taught to laugh at and suspect Cruz as being unAmerican, Cruz is going to be in a world of hurt.
Oregon militia leader Ammon Bundy battles big government, but perfectly OK with taking $530,000 in federal loan
The leader of the armed anti-government group occupying a remote
national wildlife preserve in Oregon wants the feds to mind their own
business — except when it comes to loaning him money.
Public records show Ammon Bundy took a $530,000 loan from the Small Business Administration in 2010 for his Arizona-based truck maintenance company, Valet Fleet Services.
The big-budget borrow cost taxpayers $22,419, according to federal
records. While Bundy sees green when it comes to the government’s loan program, he sees red regarding most federal laws.
Bundy, 40, said Tuesday he and the self-proclaimed patriots camping out at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge will go home when a plan is in place to turn over management of federal lands to locals.
Rep. John Lewis to have Navy ship named after him
Jan 5, 2025 By Terry Shropshire, Managing Editor and Web Editor
Unlike many of his contemporaries from a bygone era, where the likes of Martin Luther King and the Kennedy brothers were given posthumous honors of varying kinds, legendary Congressman John Lewis (D-Ga.) will have a Navy ship named in his honor.
On Wednesday, the Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus will announce that the first ship of the next generation of fleet replenishment oilers (T-AO 205) will be named USNS John Lewis after the civil rights movement hero and current U.S. representative of Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District.
The naming ceremony will take place at 2pm in the Cannon House Office Building, Room 121.
This is incredible. So many dreams that our A-A forefathers barely dared to dream have come true in my lifetime. We still have many miles to go, but there has been tremendous progress.
So South Carolina Governor has been chosen to give the Republican response to the President State of the Union. You would think that with the sorry job the others have done lately they would give it up.
Congress ought to be ashame of it’s self. Republicans claim to be so pro-life, but they don’t give a dam about trying to prevent little kids from being blown to pieces. As POTUS said it won’t prevent every shooting, but what if it can prevent some of the shootings.
I have ask the question, with all the shooting in the inner city, with the gangs shootings I have one question where are these gangs getting the guns from, they are not buying those guns legally.
I would think, no proof, these guns are stolen from family members with no record or from neighbors. Many of these guns are unregistered or serial numbers removed. There must be a black market in which gangs get guns. I remember my boss who had all kinds of rifles and guns stolen.
I give up! Have tried twice to bring over CEB’s comment on the last thread. As df said, it is wonderful. If anyone (??????) can make it work, please do. Thanks!
Thanks Tnmtgirl and amk for your kind words and for the effort to bring my comments over. I am just glad that they did not get completely eaten up in some Word Press otherworld as I thought earlier.
Tensions in the region have been rising for several days, since Saudi authorities executed prominent Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr. Iran’s leaders condemned it; then the Saudi embassy in Tehran and its consulate in north-eastern city of Mashhad were stormed; then, Saudi Arabia and other states suspended diplomatic ties with Iran.
Online, the Iranian public have responded to numerous political and social upheavals in the country by expressing their sense of humour - a way of venting anger and in some cases distancing themselves from official actions.
So here are some of the top jokes currently doing the rounds among Iranians on social networks and mobile messaging apps like Telegram.
…
One popular joke shared on Telegram was: “A new option has been added to the Foreign Ministry’s telephone number [when you dial for queries]… to cut diplomatic ties please press 9”.
“Is there anyone to cut ties in support of Iran?!… what a foreign policy we have?!” another user wondered.
“I slept for few hours and when I woke a few countries cut ties with us. I don’t even dare to take a nap now!”, a Twitter user said after Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Sudan and Djibouti severed ties with Iran.
When Djibouti cut ties with Iran, many Iranians joked that they didn’t know much about the country.
“One good thing that the snapping of ties with Saudi Arabia taught me is geography. At least now I know where Djibouti is”, a joke on Telegram reads.
“Americans learn geography by attacking countries, Iranians learn geography by cutting relations with countries”, says a Twitter user.

Morning Roberta!
Congrats Roberta! Good Morning to you, Ms. Chips and all TODers!
I cannot fathom the mental hardship that President Obama must endure dealing with 30,000 gun deaths each year.
Am I alone? I had a back and forth with my nephew last night and of course his first thing was the fake tears from our President. I just about went off the wall. I had to calm down before I answered.
Well said, Jackie!
So they lied about it…
They depend on the Lazy, Lame, Corrupt Mainstream News Media and their well oiled Media Echo Chamber to do their dastardly misinformation for them….24/7 non-stop.

Good Morning, Everyone :)
So Trump is Birtherizing Cruz, who actually WAS NOT BORN IN THE UNITED STATES.
BWA HA HA HA AH HA HA
Bundy, 40, said Tuesday he and the self-proclaimed patriots camping out at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge will go home when a plan is in place to turn over management of federal lands to locals.

amazing how the rethugs lie 24×7 and the corrupt media just propagates their lies.
President Obama rewrites the rules…again
THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 0ne million times, rikyrah
Mr. Harwood has a lot of admiration for PBO and I’ve noticed in the last year or so that he dares not hiding it anymore…
I never trust any of these ‘journos’. They all will turn on a dime.

Ammon Bundy I have two words for what you said…..Bull Sh!t.
Good Morning TODVille!
The Daily News is awesome.
The job report is great.
Our POTUS is the best!
So South Carolina Governor has been chosen to give the Republican response to the President State of the Union. You would think that with the sorry job the others have done lately they would give it up.
GRATEFUL today.
Two of the most beautiful people inside and out. I am so glad to have lived to see PBO and FLOTUS in the white house.
As I said, the NRA has Congress in it’s hip pocket.
I remember my boss who had all kinds of rifles and guns stolen.
know for a fact that some of these guns come from police departments… $$s for your local cop
I give up! Have tried twice to bring over CEB’s comment on the last thread. As df said, it is wonderful. If anyone (??????) can make it work, please do. Thanks!
I tried and it didn’t stick. fywp.
Thanks for trying.
