The great BIG negative to the SOTU this year is having to see Paul Ryan’s face behind the president. I always thought Boehner was in an alcoholic stupor and ignored him, but that smarmy Ryan face with the ugly smirk will be a challenge. I wish I had the ability to smudge out a face like they do when they try to hide body parts on TV. No body part is as offensive as Ryan’s face.

A group of Chinese investors have bought one of Germany’s largest machinery suppliers, KraussMaffei, for €925m ($1bn; £694m).
The investors include state-owned firm China National Chemical Corp (ChemChina) and investment firms AGIC Capital and Guoxin International.
KraussMaffei, which makes machinery for processing plastic and rubber, was owned by Canadian firm Onex Group.
The deal is the biggest acquisition by Chinese investors in a German company.
Chinese investors have recently been buying European firms, along with their technology and distribution networks.
Last year, ChemChina bought Italian tyre maker Pirelli in a deal valued at €7.1bn (£5.1bn).

My theory is that every single one of them has had their own little “oops” moment that would be mighty embarrassing if found out….so if they slam her for Bill’s issue…well, that would be awkward.
I’m bringing this over from the last thread because according to the NYT this morning, aid to the starving people in Madaya is being blocked. This is a humanitarian crisis of huge proportions and it’s horrific that the international community is unable to intervene. These people-especially the children-have no time left.

Niece unit’s wedding reception cake.

What an exquisite cake, AMK. Were you able to make the reception and actually get a taste of it? One of my all time favorite movies is “Monsoon Wedding.” Indian weddings make other weddings seem bland by comparison.
It was a monsoon wedding alright in India. Literally critters were pouring down. But couldn’t make it to the reception in UK, thanks to pissed off rain goddess (has to be) who shut down the airport on the day we were scheduled to leave. Made sure it remained shut for 5 more days. w/smh.
Darn. Guess you’ll have your own children’s weddings to look forward to.
We did the wedding itself here. It was a 4 day event followed by a reception at our hometown. Amazingly rain goddess let us do it in peace on the reception day.
Next up - my daughter - fingers crossed.

So the Saudis have trusted their future to a 29 year old over- privileged rich “Prince” who has big ambitions, but little understanding of the consequences of his aggressive actions. Put an arrogant young man in charge of your future and your days might well be numbered.

Mexico has formally started the process of extradition to the US of drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.
The authorities said Interpol officers served him papers at the Altiplano prison, near Mexico City.
Guzman, 58, escaped from the maximum security jail in July and was recaptured on Friday.
Mexico is also considering whether to investigate Hollywood actor Sean Penn, who interviewed Guzman soon after his jail break.
Unnamed Mexican officials have said Penn’s secret meeting helped lead them to the fugitive.

Who knew white women had become so angry?
The anger animating the divide between the GOP establishment and the GOP grassroots is always presented in terms of angry white men.
It is impossible to ignore, as The Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin noted last week, that Republican media and political culture these days, both in Congress and on the campaign trail, is “perpetually angry.”
But a new poll shows that white women are the angriest of angry voters.
The NBC News/Esquire magazine poll, conducted with Survey Monkey, found 54 percent of white Americans have been getting angrier over current events during the past year.
That is far higher than the 43 percent of Latinos and 33 percent of black Americans who say the last year of political, economic and cultural events have left them feeling angry. In fact, 73 percent of whites (compared to 66 percent of Hispanics and 56 percent of blacks) say they get angry “at least once per day.”
And the angriest white people are white women.
Fifty-eight percent of white women say they are angrier right now than a year ago. Only 51 percent of white men say the same thing, as do just 44 percent of non-white women and 32 percent of non-white men.
The unanswered question for me is simple: ANGRY ABOUT WHAT?
I know that women may feel the economic pinch more so than men. But what are while women so angry about?
Well that depends how the question was asked. I’m angry at all of the republican’s policies and their total disrespect of our President. I’m angry that congress has done nothing to stop gun violence.

Motoring giant Ford says it has conducted successful tests of its driverless cars in snowy conditions.
The company said it had been running sensor tests for more than a year, but was now driving autonomous cars in a controlled, snowy environment.
Snow presents a challenge to driverless cars because the sensors they use to detect road markings and hazards do not work well in wintery weather.
Google has also been testing its autonomous vehicles in the snow.
