      Congrats COS….FURST!

Great Tweets as usual Nerdy. John Wayne was a well known racist pig. I think those comments were made then six years later he was dead. Good riddance. His daughter is right he would endorse Trump but then he would have endorsed any of those GOP buffoons.

Good evening TOD community! Great tweets. As always NW you are the best. You keep us so informed.

I don’t listen to Thom Hartmann anymore but I did today for just a little bit. I heard him say one of his concerns about Hillary is her getting indicted for something next year. I turned it then but I haven’t heard of anything new come up, have you? Still not excited about her but the longer I hear Bernie my disdain for him grows.

The thing is neither Palin or Trump know what they’re saying because neither one of them thinks clearly. They just open their mouths and let words flow out hoping that it will all have some vague general meaning to somebody. I honestly think Trump is too lazy to bother making sense and Palin wouldn’t know what sense was if it it hit her in the face.

She has grifted for 8 years on her 5 minutes of fame - and the media has assisted her money making endeavours - every step of the way. She raises money for political purposes and spends most of it raising it. Others have ended up in jail for less yet republications are too scared to attack her - I have no idea what hold she has on them - but John McCain well might know.

Ironically, If I am not mistaken, she finally received a B.A. In Journalism from some College/University in Idaho. Mary, Wayne played so-called tough guy, patriotic roles in the movies and some people confused the role with the actor. In reality, he never served his country and found ways to stay out of WWII when a lot of other A level stars put their careers on hold to sign up-Jimmy Stuart, Clark Gable, Tyrone Power, to name a few. I never got the Wayne mystic and I certainly never realized the depth of his racism.

incredible any white “progressive” would still be saying this after all these years. as if massive investment in ORGANIZING FOR AMERICA, the democratic party, and barnstorming across the country for all kinds of candidates wasn’t “enough” for these clowns:

            January 20, 2025 at 7:32 am

Well, actually, it did us no good when we did vote. There was a referendum on the emergency financial manager law- whether we should have such a law or not- and the voters overwhelmingly voted against having an EFM law. So Snyder and his Republican legislature tweaked the law and passed it again in such a way that it can no longer be changed by referendum. Now, electing Snyder in the first place was a big mistake. But the Democratic challenger was a very weak candidate. Virtually no one knew anything about him. His reelection, well, I can’t explain that. But we did try and do something about EFMs and it got us exactly nowhere. (It is the EFM appointed by Snyder to control Flint that switched the water source).

              GM Maryl1.

Thanks for the Michigan perspective — still don’t understand how blue Michigan elected Snyder twice (!), and why they don’t have inspiring Dem leaders, especially after having seen the debacle of having local control shifted to the corrupt emergency managers who care nothing about restoring solvency and leadership to the local community (saw most of Rachel Maddow’s reports a couple of years ago on this subject).

Here’s hoping an inspiring Dem will make him/herself known now, one who can lead your wonderful state out of the abyss it’s in now.

                January 20, 2025 at 6:59 pm

Michigan is sometimes blue and sometimes purple. We are pretty reliably blue nationally, but the ‘blueness’ resides in Wayne County (Detroit) and areas around Benton Harbor and Flint. The outlying areas of the state are pretty red. Detroit has lost so much in population that it’s influence is declining. I don’t know why they couldn’t have found another, more inspiring, candidate but there it is. I have no idea why Snyder was reelected. :P

I am sorry maryl1 that Flint & all of MI has been subjected to bad political leaders both DEM and GOP. You are like IL, in a damned if you do and damned if you don’t vote. However any DEM would have been better than a GOP Gov. I hope California learned it’s lesson from voting for any GOP Gov. ever….

Our previous Dem governor was pretty good. The Repub before her basically bankrupted the state. We have excellent Senators and some strong Representatives. There just didn’t seem to be anyone ‘groomed’ to follow Granholm. Lots of people blamed her for declining economic conditions, when the reality was the previous Republican governor, Engler, pretty much bankrupted the state and then we began to feel the downturn well before the rest of the country. Granholm did the best she could with a bad hand, but it would have taken a Democratic star to win. Snyder came off so mild and commonplace a lot of people were fooled. I wasn’t.

The Rude Pundit can go pound sand. The intense training that OFA brought to local Democratic parties in 2008 and 2012 transformed the way that those groups carried out elections. I saw first hand the difference between 2004 and 2008, in terms of the level of skill in voter outreach and GOTV. And that skill has been honed in every year since then in local elections. Do we always win? No. Can we overcome voter apathy? Not always. But we are all more professional because of the skills the Obama campaigns taught us.

          January 20, 2025 at 12:14 am

100% of the 2010 apathy and 2012 losses is due to Dems running away from PBO for no GD reason. I was with OFA at the local Dem voting to get OFA elected and the DEM establishment was too heavily represented. OFA people didn’t have a chance because the students and first timers had no time to be bothered about their futures.

But the damage Sanders does wouldn’t stop there. He isn’t content to stop at just putting the bulk of the cost on the back of the middle class and gambling with Medicare, Medicaid and Obamacare, it turns out that he is also gunning for women’s health care. His plan would end insurance access to abortions, and possibly even jeopardize access to birth control.
