Geez, the east coast snow is dominating our news casts out here - what???!!!!!! I need to hear our weather so I will know what dress I should wear to Church in the morning - short sleeves or a light suit jacket

Wow, you actually check the weather report *before* ironing your church outfit for the next day? I’m impressed. Never knew anyone approached that so logically. I thought people just ironed more than one outfit the night before - like I used to - then choose the most appropriate one come Sunday/work day morning.

Ha! no, I have to figure out what mood I’m in, whether a sunshiny dress or a more subdued outfit :-)

          January 23, 2025 at 9:28 pm

How can you know what mood you’ll be in tomorrow? I dress by mood too - that’s why I iron more than one outfit, and have even been known to change my mind and iron something different on the morning of….if none of the prepared ones fit the mood.

I do my ironing in the morning. I mentally choose the outfits the night before based on weather forecast. Not complicated 😊

              :D Not complicated at all.
I started my method in an effort to minimize the number of things that play around in my head when I ought to be sleeping. Honestly, a lot of my decisions are made in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep.

I don’t iron - wrinkled is fashionable - and I put the head out the window to check the weather.

*chuckle-chuckle* TS, you sound just like a girlfriend I have here who doesn’t understand what there is to iron. In fact, she doesn’t even own an iron. My grandma would have had a word or two to say to her, I tell you. :D As for the weather check, I do *that* when I open the door to leave home.

I own one - I iron tea towels (else they don’t dry anything) and handkerchiefs - else they don’t sit right.

My dear mother used to iron everything - including the underwear. Took me awhile to convince her of the error of her ways.

I guess we all have our areas - no ironed tea towels for me, and since I haven’t used my handkerchiefs in forever they haven’t been ironed either! :D :D

:D :D Part of the reason I do my offspring’s ironing (when he’s home) is that he makes me feel like a failure! He actually sees nothing wrong with stepping out of the house in wrinkled jeans!!!

      GE GGail.

Did a search on weather.com for Monrovia CA and the forecast there is almost identical to the one for my zip code:

47F at 6am, up to 61F by noon, high of 64F at 3pm.

I’d opt for both (light suit jacket over short sleeves :) ).

These comments of the GOP candidates…are just too much…the hate of the OTHER…so strong that the callousness of these statements do not seep in….i suppose when someone mentions Income Equality they think that it is the OTHER seeking “free stuff”…they do not see themselves in that mix…a pity….the hatred of the Other is what keeps the GOP in power…this is why they continue to stoke that fire…so that it burns hotter and hotter..

I am thrilled, thrilled, thrilled to report that the snow has finally STOPPED after what has seemed like umpteen million hours of relentless white stuff. Travel on roads will be banned through tomorrow as local governments try to clear the streets and the few plowed paths are so slick I saw one woman literally flip over on her back when she tried to step out the door. (She’s ok.) The idea of a winter ‘wonderland’ lost it’s charm about 20 hours ago and I am so ready for Spring!!

Just saw a pic on Facebook from a friend in Poolesville, MD. At 8:30 they has almost 4 feet. She wasn’t going out to measure, but knows her mailbox is at 42 inches off the ground and it was almost to that point. This is unbelievable.

      GE VC.

One of things I miss from Windows XP are the Solitaire (my fav was Free Cell) and Hearts card games.

They’re not available on Windows 8 (which is what I have now) — amk gave me instructions on how to download card games on Windows 10, but GGail saying it took HOURS to download Windows 10 has made me reluctant to install that OS version.

Where did you get your Solitaire game?

I think I’m still on Windows 7, working up some courage to download Windows 10. I’m all for - ‘if it’s working, leave it alone’! ;) However rumour has it that I should switch while W 10 is still free. We’ll see.

Have to admit that I’m loving some of the tweets from #Snowzilla from those who have the smarts and/or luxury to stay put until it’s over — those trapped in their cars for hours, not so much.

Think there’s a typo in this tweet (ANC, not PANC):

I just arrived back to TOD and was going to post “Great minds think alike!” to you. Lived in NJ/PA for the first 47 years of my life, then spent 17 in FL, and have been in IL during these last 5 winters, so I’m not that much of a fan of the snow experience at this point! But it looks good on video. :)

          January 24, 2025 at 1:26 am

          Thanks for the clarification.

Could have sworn that you had roots in PA (no doubt contributing to my addled state earlier today  ) — mentioned before that I’ve spent some time there (middle PA, around Williamsport and have been to State College, Pittsburgh area, toured Frank Lloyd Wright’s spectacular Falling Water, and attended a [Catholic] wedding in Philadelphia). Such a wonderful state, thoroughly enjoyed every minute there. Of course the couple of times I was there it was summer, so I got to see fireflies (my favorite — I’m like the baby panda when I see them, LOL).

Are you thinking of moving to FL, since you’ve got kinfolk there? (Too flat and humid for me, and I’m terrified of all the lakes that I’m convinced are teeming with gators, LOL. Also didn’t see any fireflies, but it was probably due to where I was).

            January 24, 2025 at 3:05 pm

Hi, there. I do have roots in PA (both sets of parents, grandparents - the great grandparents “came across” from Ireland and Germany!), and have family members in Western PA, but I only personally lived near the NJ/PA line for a few years in my life. Love Philadelphia! I’m more a city girl, but it’s a lovely state for those who like green vistas!

I do want to move back to FL (lived there from ’94 to ’10), but will remain in IL until my son’s fully back at it (and I’m hoping some day he moves back there, too, since it’s our adopted state!).

Unlike GGail, I can’t get enough of the #Snowzilla tweets.

Probably because I’ve lived in SoCal all my life, can count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen snow falling, still don’t understand when people talk about snowflake shapes — are different shapes visible as they fall, or only under a microscope?

Regardless, this is a cool time lapse:

      My comment there…

She is, in many ways, the source of President Obama’s growing assertiveness in the use of executive orders.
      *********************
I agree with most of this essay…but it can be irritating that every action the President takes is attributed to Hillary Clinton…as if the President is just chopped liver…that being said…from the choices that i have …i will have to vote for Hillary Clinton….my first choice is for the President to have a 3rd term…but as he has said…that is unconstitutional..
