On This Day: On a tour of the State Floor of the White House, President Barack Obama looks at a portrait of John F. Kennedy by Aaron Shikler, Jan. 24, 2009. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)
Every president and every First Lady gets an official portrait. Don’t know whether the president gets to choose his artist, but I think they have a say in how they want to be portrayed.
Ms Chips…as the President’s time in office draws to a close …have you given thought to how you will preserve this diary…i think that the ObamaFoundation will have a use for your diary…i hope that they have a digital library..if they do, your diary will be a valuable memento to the President’s time in office…
Morning Prettyfoot. Haven’t really thought about all that, kinda blanking next year out of my mind, but I’m sure the Obama Foundation will have a brilliant digital collection, so so so so much great material to choose from!
I understand about blanking out next year…sigh…but i look forward to the President rallying people to get out to vote…exciting the electorate…..
i also look forward to what the President will do after he leaves office…he will NOT go quietly into the night….like ObiWan Kenobi told Darth Vader…I will be more powerful than you can imagine….
Ah, gorgeous tweet! That’s a great link arapaho - http://act.barackobamafoundation.org/page/s/submit-an-artifact - over time we could all work on some ideas on things to send them. Thank you!!!
Good Morning all. The gorgeous, beautiful, wonderful, fantabulous sun is shining this morning and even though it’s shining on over 30″ of snow, I’m ready to to a sun dance to thank it for coming up this morning.
It was all fun and games for a while and looked lovely and then it really got almost menacing because when every door is blocked by snow, there is NO WAY OUT and it actually starts to get freaky. I cleaned out NINE draws in the bedroom to distract myself.
Seems like an instance where either doors swinging inward or some sliding doors would be useful. My front door swings inward. Of course keeping your snow shovel in your house during a snowstorm helps. Guess having lived in Alaska for ten years gives me experience in that area.
GOOD MORNING TOD FAMILY…HOPE AND PRAY EVERYONE IS OK…AM OFF TO MY WONDERFUL MULTICULTURAL CHURCH TODAY…FEEL SO AT HOME THERE…YESTERDAY’S SERVICE FOR THE PASTOR’S MOTHER WAS A SAD YET JOYFUL EVENT. HOPE BO AND SUNNY ARE ENJOYING CREATING SOME YELLOW SNOW. I EXPECT TO SEE PBO OUT WITH THE girls creating a snowman and the first lady carving a giant replica of a broccoli stalk…………..MY PUTER AS YOU CAN SEE IS DOUBLY WIERD THIS MORNING!..I LOVE MY ENERGIZER PRESIDENT AND BOUGHT HIM SOME MENS’ FIRED UP SOX YESTERDAY. THEY ARE SUCH A HOOT! CAN’T WAIT TO SEND THEM NEX WEEK. JUST HOPE NOONE INTERFERES AT THE POST OFFICE…MAIL THEFT IS A FELONY!..BBL…………….
THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PIX OF PBO…BROTHERS IN CAUSE…GIVING HISTORY A PAUSE….UNITING A NATION…THE WORK IS NEVER DONE….BROTHERS IN CAUSE UNTIL WE ARE ‘ONE!’
I hope Demirtas stays safe and actually succeeds in giving Turkey a chance to one day become a thriving democracy. Wouldn’t trust that maniac Erdogan not to silence him, though.
Very good article….thanks for posting this…
from the article:
These last victories will soon become legacies of an American leader who chose peace over war. President Rouhani, however, is just getting started. This victory was his major election promise in 2013, and it was just fulfilled. Now that the nuclear dispute is resolved and sanctions are lifted, he still has a long way to repair a destroyed economy, create millions of jobs for a very young society and lift a large country out of years of political, economic and social isolation. President Rouhani also needs to attend to domestic, social and political reforms, protect civil and human rights in the country and release dozens of political prisoners. Iranians have long been waiting for this day, patiently.
Interesting how Iran keeps twisting the knife into the Saudis. They’re going to use any means necessary-commerce, their new relationships with great powers like China, and endless digs-to turn SA into a pariah.
I think Iran is starting to flex its political power, and political power is more stronger than any bomb. President Obama has proven that throughout his Presidency.
Bob, my reply to you evaporated into cyberspace. Wanted to say that I think it’s interesting how Iran (Iranis) like to twist the dagger in the Saudi’s back whenever they can. They’re doing anything they can to turn SA into a pariah.
Indeed, Jackie. And, of course, the Saudis are making it as easy as possible for everyone to view them as a pariah state. And, it’s no wonder Bibi and the King are buddies ….
G’morning Chips & TOD! Congrats 99ts on #1! :) Congrats and safety to all those on the East Coast who have survived one of the biggest blizzards of all time! What a storm it was! :):)
I’m telling you Iran is like a giant virgin, waiting to get tapped. China and France knows this that’s why there’re negotiating deals with Iran left and right. I bet you a million dollars Iran gets high speed trains before America does. You best believe Boeing is trying to get in on the gangbang of the century.
US business are probably flying to Tehran every day to negotiate deals. The more Iranis talk reasonably and praise diplomacy, the higher the number of American companies who will want a share of the profits.
AMK, Republicans will look like they’re raising hurdles if they think it will hurt the President. But that party is owned and operated by big business and that greedy group isn’t going to sit back and let China get all the takings. All they have to do is buy a few congressmen or senators and they get want they want. Buying members of Congress is really cheap and corporations get a lot of bang for their buck.
The present congress is held to ransom by that tiny minority of teabaggers. Neither the drunk nor the granny starver had/has the guts to caucus with dems on such matters. It’s been two weeks since the sanctions were lifted and I don’t see any news of US big business doing any deals. They have already lost the early bird advantage. The big corps have bitched about how all their ‘efforts’ have come to naught in the last seven years.
Unfortunately for the Republicans the bible thumpers, the creationist, the climate deniers, and the anti-abortionist outnumber those Republicans that are more in tuned with big business. This is where the Chamber of Commerce and the Corporations might have to step in and do the heavy lifting.
Not really, I have seen their numbers varied from 40 to 60 based on the collective pet peeves. boner was a gutless failure in not even trying to squelch these roaches ruthlessly. So many votes, including immigration reforms, would have passed with dems support.
Whoa, Don! I love you, but that “virgin” thing is wildly sexist. And I do agree that Iran is going to become one of the most modern countries in the Middle East in a very short time.
Inorite? I was very shocked but VERY encouraged by this. Can it be we’ve reached peak disgust of some sort? Guns are not now and never have been a tradition in my family so I’m not part of the gun culture and this news really makes me want to work harder to wake people up.
It’s hugely encouraging Meta, I suppose the key to this battle was always to persuade ‘moderate’ thinking gun owners to support even basic friggin’ stuff like background checks, so maybe the NRA’s extremism on that is finally hurting them. We can but pray!
I just finish watching that, Tina is great in playing that idiot. I had to laugh, then I found myself asking is Sarah Palin for real. OMG!!!!!!!!! John McCain this is part of your legacy, all yours and not in a good way.
I always knew that if I missed Il Douche’s major insane endorsement on TV, SNL would have the replay. As in the words of the Great Keith Olbermann, this woman (Palin) is an idiot!
gm Ms Chips & TOD
Gooooooood evening 99ts!
And I’m so interested to know about the portrait that PBO will have in the White House - has this ever been discussed?
Ah, I hadn’t thought about that - is there an official portrait of every President in the White House, and who chooses it?
Every president and every First Lady gets an official portrait. Don’t know whether the president gets to choose his artist, but I think they have a say in how they want to be portrayed.
Thanks Jackie, wasn’t sure how it worked, will be fascinating to see PBO’s portrait.
yes it will…

:-) Too perfect Prettyfoot, “I will be more powerful than you can imagine” should be his motto for life after 2016.
Yeahhhhh
I’ve had that same thought about him! :) The evil Empire is in for more.
GM Chips, just replied to PF58 about @ObamaFoundation actively seeking contributions.
Here’s the photo from @3ChicsPolitico that they responded to: :)

GM PF58, Chips.
The Obama Foundation is pro-actively seeking contributions!
We at TODville should collaborate to make sure TheObamaDiary.com has a vital and permanent place in the archives and for curious visitors as well.
Good Morning all. The gorgeous, beautiful, wonderful, fantabulous sun is shining this morning and even though it’s shining on over 30″ of snow, I’m ready to to a sun dance to thank it for coming up this morning.
Good sunshiney morning to you Jackie - holy smokes, 30″?!
It was all fun and games for a while and looked lovely and then it really got almost menacing because when every door is blocked by snow, there is NO WAY OUT and it actually starts to get freaky. I cleaned out NINE draws in the bedroom to distract myself.
Blimey, I could do with that much snow to force me to tidy up :???:
It’s not worth it, believe me. Better to have messy drawers and be able to walk outside than the alternative.
Ha, okay, I’ll take your word for it :-)
Seems like an instance where either doors swinging inward or some sliding doors would be useful. My front door swings inward. Of course keeping your snow shovel in your house during a snowstorm helps. Guess having lived in Alaska for ten years gives me experience in that area.
Right there with you Jackie. Love the Sun, so pleased to see it today.

Good Sunday morning TOD :)
Good for Queen Noor!!
For real!!
I hope Demirtas stays safe and actually succeeds in giving Turkey a chance to one day become a thriving democracy. Wouldn’t trust that maniac Erdogan not to silence him, though.
Glorious photo, Bob, but is there any way up or down that cliff, shorting of killing yourself?

Iran is looking to be a leader in the 21rst century. The Saudis are looking backward, hoping to restore their time of glory in the last century.
i had a response…tried posting it twice….no go…. :(
Found and freed!
yayyyyy
Morning Sir Bob!!
Good morning dear Chips!!!
Hope you and Danny are having fun in the snow :)
I one swoop Iran is about to remake its country economically, socially, and politically, and they will be better for it.
Interesting how Iran keeps twisting the knife into the Saudis. They’re going to use any means necessary-commerce, their new relationships with great powers like China, and endless digs-to turn SA into a pariah.

Busy day - past my bedtime - night all - do hope the big snow is about over.
Night 99ts, don’t have snowy nightmares!
This is the kind of information they need to keep sending out. You really do have to step down to “Politics / Science for Dummies” to explain things.
:D :D :D
Someone in Turkey has a clue ….
More updates in the sidebar and I’ll add even more later today if I have time.
Take care everyone; stay warm!!

Bob have you read the post on the people’s view…i thought about you when i read it…

Thank you pf58. I had not seen it. Will try to read it later today.
G’morning Chips & TOD! Congrats 99ts on #1! :) Congrats and safety to all those on the East Coast who have survived one of the biggest blizzards of all time! What a storm it was! :) :)
Goooooooooooood snowy morning to ya, Hopefruit!!
Iran is considering buying planes from US manufacturer Boeing as it moves to upgrade its fleet following the removal of UN sanctions.
Iran’s deputy transport minister Asghar Fakhrieh Kashan told Reuters that Iran is interested in buying 100 aircraft.
UN sanctions were lifted a week ago, allowing Airbus to negotiate a deal to sell 114 aircraft to Iran.
US trade sanctions on Iran remain in place, but Boeing could apply for a special waiver.
However, last week Boeing said there are “many steps” before it decides to sell aircraft to Iran.
The Airbus deal will have an official signing when Iranian President Hassan Rouhani visits Paris on Wednesday, according to Iranian media.
http://www.bbc.com/news/business-35394835
so the french and chinese are signing deals worth billions, while bomb, bomb, iran murkans are losing out. keep voting for the thugs.
I’m telling you Iran is like a giant virgin, waiting to get tapped. China and France knows this that’s why there’re negotiating deals with Iran left and right. I don’t think so. The thugs have set up so many hurdles in the path and if they win in 2016, there will be many more.
AMK, Republicans will look like they’re raising hurdles if they think it will hurt the President. But that party is owned and operated by big business and that greedy group isn’t going to sit back and let China get all the takings. Morning Meta! Wow, $47 million? I’m amazed, I honestly thought they’d be doing even better because of the ‘Obammer’s comin’ to get yer guns’ crap.

Inorite? I was very shocked but VERY encouraged by this. Can it be we’ve reached peak disgust of some sort? Guns are not now and never have been a tradition in my family so I’m not part of the gun culture and this news really makes me want to work harder to wake people up.
