The President visits with wounded military personnel at Walter Reed
Perfect, AMK. Echoes of Vietnam plus the obscene amount of cash “lost” in Iraq. I’m sorry we won’t be seeing his hapless stumbles during the general election, though. It would have been fun.
GM all. Superb ‘toon, amk. We met with our Life Group last night and for just 3-4 minutes we got ‘off topic’ and onto the election and the candidates, mainly Trump. Cruz, Huckabee, Santorium and Palin were also mentioned. My husband made one of the comments (that he has previously said to me.) That is that he can’t believe we have ended up with the candidates we have this year…….the choices we are likely to have to choose from. So far, I haven’t pointed out the following, but at some point when I get the opportunity, I WILL.
Will point out that the Party “built this.” Then give some specific examples, mainly that NOT ONE Repub said ONE word when Trump was on a roll about the birther issue. Also plan to point out that 50 million people-and I am guessing some of you this room-voted for SP to be VPOTUS………to represent us on the world stage and to be one heartbeat away from the presidency. As long as millions of people show more loyalty to a party than to the country (or state or locale), this gridlock, this partisanship, this ineffectiveness, etc. will never end.
Okay rant over…….preaching to the choir. :) HAPPY, HAPPY Birthday to our Judith! :):)
TN, if you ever get to say this, I hope you record it. We will all stand up and cheer for you!! All this ‘astonishment’ at the utter baseness of the GOP candidates is horse manure. Republican voters condoned the grossest possible treatment of PBO and FLOTUS and their viciousness reaches back to Gore, Clinton and Carter. They decided long ago that money and power was more important than democracy, decency and good governance. They sowed this ugliness and now they’re reaping the bitter harvest. And, by the way, they do have a choice. They can vote for a Democrat.
EXACTLY, jackie. EXACTLY! **Wish I could record it. :) At some point, the next few months, I know I’ll get another opportunity. Need to time it though……….even if only end up pointing this out to my husband here at home. Of the 10 people in our LG, I am 99.9% sure that 5 of them voted for McCain-Palin. Of course, my husband being one of the five.
:) Morning, df. I hope so too. I’m just not sure he can bring himself to vote for Hillary though. Seriously, don’t think he can. I do believe had VPBiden been the candidate, he would have in a heartbeat.
Morning, 99. Yesterday everybody in the neighborhood was digging out with whole families shoveling like mad. We can now exit all doors and have even cleaned the driveway. My back, however, is screaming in protest. This was a record snowfall for our area. Nothing like it ever happened before.
I was reading about everyone having to “dig out” before the snow turned to ice - I’m having nightmares about houses having their doors “iced up” and we will probably never have to face any snow - let alone ice.
My back has difficulty with a vacuum cleaner - let alone a shovel. Have to admit a positive with the new apartment - someone else does the maintenance - we watch!
So nice to hear it has passed. Climate change is giving us all such extremes of climate. We seem to be having a cooler summer than usual - probably because the weird climate is currently in the northern hemisphere. South of us seems to be mainly floods or bush fires!
rw shockjocks at each other’s throat over dreck & crud. see the whiny gop complaining about how these radio and blog nutters aren’t allowing them ‘to govern’.
Morning all. A gigantic Happy Birthday to Judith who actually got to see our President this year and bask in his goodness. That makes her a star in my book.
To answer your ? in a previous post - My only hope is that VP Biden is saying something entirely different, privately, to that despotic piece of trash Erdogan ….
I will never understand why the media has to trash dem candidates - yet none seem capable of telling the truth about Trump. They acted in a similar way with Palin.
Simple answer, 99. The media fear Republican candidates because they’re vicious at retaliation. They can criticize Democrats all they like and the consequences are benign. Democrats believe in a free press and don’t condone suppression; Republicans insist the press do their bidding and will do everything in their power to destroy them if they don’t. Its’ the difference between democracy and tyranny.
To be fair, 99, it was the Globe that used the word “failures,” not Clinton. A newspaper should at least try to be factual, but in this case, the Globe has chosen not to. It was the Republican led congress that refused to act on immigration and rebelled against even the slightest effort to enact sensible gun legislation. But, the Globe gives our horrible, obstructionist Congress a pass and blames it all on the President.
I understand it was the media jackie - probably didn’t make that clear in my response. The media has done more than the GOP in attempting to bring down President Obama. None of the media has been factual about the problems PBO has with congress. I am truly confused as to what the media has to gain by arming the population and hating on immigrants - although the later is not limited to the US. The guns however are a US problem that most other countries do not have.
The media is literally owned by corporations, thanks to deregulation and the 1996 Telecommunications Act. Corporations want the GOP in power to protect their $$ billions, so the MSM is directed by their owners to stand down (IMO - no one would ever come out and admit it) on GOP malfeasance and incompetency.
If we had an objective media, more people would know how dangerous, obstructionist and treasonous the GOP has been.
Morning everyone…glad to hear the snowbound people are finally working their way out….I must say that people got creative in hilarious ways during this storm:) Made me happy to see that they took it in stride and could still laugh….
On a serious note, I mentioned the other night (Saturday) that Sadie had gotten into my bag that I drag my tutoring things in…one of the mom’s of one of my kids gave me a chocolate candy bar that was sweetened with zylitol. ZYLITOL IS TOXIC TO DOGS! They are putting this nasty junk in everything now. BEWARE ANIMAL OWNERS! She pretty much had eaten the entire bar, plus some wrapper thrown in for good measure. I called animal poison control, ( they were AMAZING!) and they did the calculations and they wanted me to go to the emergency vets. Sadie is a 140 lb dog…anything less than that may have died. This is nasty and serious. Liver failure. Crashing blood sugar. Coma. Death.
Did I mention that my dog is TERRIFIED of the car? Let’s say, it’s VERY difficult to get her in. My daughter and I got very creative. Off to the emergency vet we went.. she got the treatment she needed and has to follow up with a blood panel today to check her liver function…The mobile vet will be coming over today:) No getting the dog in the car on my lunch break today!
Just wanted to give all of you animal owners out there a head’s up on this nasty ingredient, that the vet said is going into EVERYTHING now, from that chocolate bar, to toothpaste, to peanut butter….scary. What if they got into that and you didn’t know?? Luckily, I saw the wrapper on the floor after Sadie was done eating the candy…someone else may not be so lucky…
So, hundreds of $$$$$$$$ later, I think that she’ll be fine. Have to spend more time and $$$$$ to get her seen by the vet today, too. It was frightening. Just want you all to be aware so you can take precautions and make sure that this stuff doesn’t get near your animals. Cats, too.
Hopefully, the rest of my week will get better:) Hope this helps others.
So you sent me to google to read about zylitol - seemed to me anything that is this toxic to a dog could maybe be a problem to people. Some interesting reading. Think I’ll stay away from it & read the labels on my peanut butter.
So sorry that you and Sadie had to endure this horrible experience and am glad that she will be okay. The silver lining is that I can share this info with friends and family that have pets. Your terrifying experience just may have saved someone else’s pets life. May your week continue to get better.
Df, what a horrible ordeal. Thank God you’re a caring dog owner and saw the problem before it was too late. I know money doesn’t matter when someone you love is in danger, but I know it’s a bummer to drop so many $$ unexpectedly. We are all going to have to monitor everything we buy and eat to be sure we’re not all being slowly poisoned. Hope Sadie passes the blood test with flying colors.
A blanket THANK YOU to all of you that responded to Sadie’s ordeal:) I told you this so that you can educate others about this awful, toxic ingredient and help others avoid this…Yes, 99ts, I agree with you…something THAT toxic to dogs, has to be bad for humans too… Bad stuff. Thanks for all the well wishes for my girl…will give you a final update after I see the vet this afternoon. Hugs and love to all of you.
Oh df I am so sorry, thank goodness Sadie survived this! Hugs to you both.. and as cat and dog person, I didn’t know about this ingredient so thank you so much for the info.
Oh my God DF, I’ve only just seen this. How utterly terrifying, you must have freaked out. Wishing Sadie the speediest of recoveries. I really need to check this out, I know the foods you can’t give dogs but it seems like they put this crap in anything. {{{DF}}}
Judith Happy Birthday. Thank you so much for your posts and your work to make this country better. I appreciate you and see your life as an example of what a courageous committed woman can accomplish.
This voter suppression is obscene. If a state is going to require “photo id” they need to make the process as simple as possible and phase it in over a minimum of five years. I hope there is some judicial review going on in North Carolina. That’s what saved PA from a similar fate.
He loved Hillary Clinton; now he thinks she’s the worst. He was very much in favor of abortion rights before he opposed them. And he might be running as a Republican today, but he was once a registered Democrat who called for legalizing drugs, a massive one-time 14.25 percent tax on the wealthy and staying out of wars that didn’t present a “direct threat” to the U.S. In many ways, he’s been to the left of Clinton and even Bernie Sanders on some issues.
But in Trump’s world, there is no truth but now. Here are some of his most glaring flips (or convenient evolutions):
He appears to have suddenly started going to church - will the media investigate all his prior activities and who might be his family preacher? I should laugh but having this guy close to the red button is no laughing matter
The Federal and DC offices are closed because public transportation has not been fully restored yet. Buses are running only from 12 noon until 5pm today and the metro trains are only running underground. Hopefully they will get everything restored by tomorrow and we can all get back to our normal lives. Meanwhile, I’m gonna stay right in my house and chill out. ;)

GM TOD
Today is our Judith’s Birthday!!!
Ah, you’re so thoughtful Donna - happpppppppppy birthday Judith!!
Thanks, Chips! I still think of myself as 27, but oddly, 40 more years have accumulated.
Happy Birthday, Judith!
Thanks for letting us know, Donna. That’s an eye popping greeting. Have you dug out of the deluge yet?
GM Jackie. I can see pavement at last! It’s cold but clear. Spring can’t come soon enough for me!!!
Donna, all I want is NO more snow!!! Warmer temperatures would be nice, too, and no ice. In fact, Spring arriving in February would be just great.
Donna, thanks for remembering! have been up to all kinds of birthday shenanigans with our daughter this weekend. Hugs right back to all of you!
Goooood morning and many happy returns of the day Judith!
Thanks, Maryl1.

That’s hurtful.
Jeeeeeeeeeebsus! Is that a goat? And why is it in a sink?

Chocolate covered goat for breakfast. Now that sounds like one of Chef Chips’ recipes! 😀
THAT’S A HORRIFIC PICTURE…SACRIFICE YOURSELF…LEAVE THE GOAT ALONE!…DISGUSTING!

I thought that too - having long memories
your new bf raonic wowed wawrinka.
He did & I watched - hope he plays Fedex in the ffinal - or are they on the same side of the draw?
Watched Murray & Tomic - not sure which one I most wanted to lose the most.
Great match!
Makes me think of the Bush disaster during Hurricane Katrina also.

Morning all. A gigantic Happy Birthday to Judith who actually got to see our President this year and bask in his goodness. That makes her a star in my book.
Hear, hear! Judith is a TOD Superstar! 😄
Can’t top that for a birthday gift! :)
Good morning amk and TOD

me not likey. at all.
Love me some Monfils! He makes watching tennis so much fun! I sure hope that wrist holds up for his next match!
Hmmmmm ….. getting mighty close to his backyard …..
And if she has a GOP congress how will she fix the so-called failures. The GOP has failed the people of the US, not the President.
The article is just more #WhiteSupremacy drivel, 99 … I only posted it because of how far they went to trash the bern in the process ….
I will never understand why the media has to trash dem candidates - yet none seem capable of telling the truth about Trump. They acted in a similar way with Palin.
