Thank you, Chips, for posting this link on International Holocaust Remembrance Day. I’m so glad the President is at the Israeli Embassy, to help commemorate both the occasion and the awards.

I went looking for the Onion label - if this is true - Trump seriously wants to lose. Everything he has done in the past week seems to be done to prove that there is a % of the US that is RW racist lunatic. It seems he is desperately trying to lose - and the dimwits scream with joy.

Df, it’s as if Trump is on some kind of drunken binge, turning over furniture, breaking glass, destroying everything in sight.. He just doesn’t care anymore and has decided to make a colossal joke of himself. Plus he’s blowing bigger and bigger raspberries at the Republican Party, telling them he’s already their nominee and can name his VP, even if that person is a psychotic criminal. The man is out of control and I hope his implosion comes very, very soon.

    GE TODville.

These stories of bravery and endurance are simply amazing.

I’m sure PBO is getting so much from these personal experiences.

Hope TNmtngirl is watching (or will watch replay), basking in the bravery of the serviceman from Knoxville TN (his son is accepting award now).

P.S. Agree with the moderator — the survivors in their 90s look 30 years younger. Amazing.

    To honor

They speak of being my brother’s keeper
Among men of ancient days, passed down in the great book
They speak of the spiritual dignity and grace
Of the righteous among the nations, honored by descendants
They speak of rescuing the living children
Of finding them homes, to be raised up from the sureness of death
They speak of the courageous among the war prisoners
Of those who made it to our American shores
Before we were born, many of us
Before we ever knew any of it had occurred
Although we cannot join them tonight
We sent our best, to speak with them
Our President who is bathed in dignity and grace
Who honors the courage of the forefathers and mothers
Who is a righteous man among men and nations, himself.

JO’B, I surely hope you are compiling your “Obama presidency” poems in a booklet, printed and bound, with the occasion* of each one’s creation clearly noted, so that you can donate the finished product to the Obama Foundation. Off the top of my head I’d guess you’ve easily done more than/close to a dozen over the course of PBO’s presidency. I bet you could self-publish, with our support if needed. Even though we do not do fundraising in our TOD village, I suspect that there is a core of die-hards here who would willingly help to get something like this that honours PBO off the ground. What say you? I seem to remember you worked for the military in an area that had something to do with manuals????

When all Americans hear about are the weeks of fear mongering and agonizing about how “the world is on fire” after a successful attack, but nothing about those that failed due to law enforcement intervention, the whole issue is ripe for politicians to demagogue. We saw the entire field of Republican presidential candidates do just that last December. That’s why I thought it was important to write about this story today. Let’s spread the word to balance the scales just a bit, shall we?

Earlier today, Donna dem4Obama asked how we in Iowa compared the campaign intensity this year to 2008. Just my observations, but I’d have to say it’s much worse. I don’t remember the campaigns contacting us at all back then – this time, it’s the pollsters, the Hillary folks and the DNC that contact us almost daily. I’ve definitely heard others say they get a ton of calls. BTW - the Iowa Caucus is not a “winner-take-all? contest – the delegates are assigned proportionately, so I can’t see that it really matters who “wins?. In 2008 when BO won – he got 16 delegates, John Edwards got 15 delegates and HRC got 14 delegates. All that effort for such little reward! Only 119 hours until…

Up to 50,000 homes in Philadelphia are connected to city water mains by lead pipes, according to city officials.

Though lead service lines were banned in 1986, they remain in older homes whose owners can’t afford to pay for improvements. Water flowing through lead pipes can pick up measurable amounts of the toxic metal.

Anger in Michigan Over Appointing Emergency Managers

This is an example of what we think of as happening in a third world country. If I were not seeing /hearing it , I would simply not believe the magnitude of this crisis and realize that the governor seemingly doesn’t care all that much. Trying to put blame on others and do everything he can to NOT fix this.

The Flint disaster is Rick Snyder’s fault

      https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-flint-disaster-is-rick-snyders-fault/2016/01/25/9c77e036-c3b1-11e5-a4aa-f25866ba0dc6_story.html

“You cannot separate what happened in Flint from the state’s extreme emergency-management law,? said Curt Guyette, who, working for the ACLU of Michigan, uncovered much of the scandal in Flint. “The bottom line is making sure the banks and bond holders get paid at all costs, even if the kids are poisoned with foul river water.?

The emergency-manager law, Guyette argued, “is about the taking away of democracy and the imposition of austerity-fueled autocracy on cities that are poor and majority African American.?

Snyder’s blaming of local authorities is disingenuous: Because of the emergency-management law, municipal officials can’t do anything without the blessing of Snyder’s viceroys.

    President Obama addresses Oscar controversy

President Obama on Wednesday said movies will be better if they represent everyone’s stories, for the first time weighing in on the lack of black nominees at the Oscars.

“I think that California is an example of the incredible diversity of this country,” Obama said during a series of interviews with local news stations. “That’s a strength. I think that when everyone’s story is told then that makes for better art.

“It makes for better entertainment it makes everybody feel part of one American family, so I think as a whole the industry should do what every other industry should do which is to look for talent, provide opportunity to everybody. And I think the Oscar debate is really just an expression of this broader issue. Are we making sure that everybody is getting a fair shot?”

My gut has been with O’Malley from the beginning because of his superior support of PBO during his time in office also because he has actually put many progressive ideals into practice while serving. Another words like when I researched Senator Obama in reaching my conclusion to support him I saw the numerous bills he authored and coauthored that were aligned with progressive ideals. He walked his talk. I see that O’Malley also walked his talk. I feel O’Malley would best preserve Obama’s accomplishments. So maybe I should not give up on him yet.
