What struck me about the establishment put down of Hillary from Bernie, is this: Its not like Sanders just showed up to DC last week as some outsider. He is a career politician. It doesn’t get much more establishment than a craky old white guy who has been in politics his whole life. Kettle meet pot.
57&F, this article put into words a general feeling I have been having lately regarding the attitude and behavior of many of Bernie Sander’s supporters and the candidate himself. The sheer vitriol I have read in the online comments made by Sanders supporters is reminiscent of “Gamergate” and it occurred to me that the Hillary hate was particularly hateful because she is a woman seeking the most powerful position in the world, just as the hatred against PBO went far and beyond the usual right wing bs because his color and the color of his family and their presence in the White House scares the sh*t out of those who see a threat to the status quo as a personal one.
I was not a big fan of Hillary Clinton and have still not forgotten her and Bill’s encouragement of the racist/birther elements on the left in order to undermine then Senator Obama in ’08. However, two wrongs do not make a right and, just because the victim of these tactics is now Clinton and the tool is now misogyny, it is just as disgusting to me.
Sanders’ own angry dismissal of Planned Parenthood (women), the Human Rights Campaign (LGBT) and the fierce Nancy Pelosi as “Establishment”, as well as his historical and current dismissal of PBO as ineffective, not pure enough and another tool of said “Establishment”, strikes me as the rantings of an angry online commenter; he’s just making those comments from behind a podium.
This line from the article was deep; even though I am a woman, this hadn’t yet occurred to me:
“There is a person in this Democratic primary who can be visibly angry, who can shout, who can use any tone and show any emotion, who can show up to campaign events looking like they just rolled out of bed after a bender. Who can coast by on the double-standard defined and enforced by the establishment.
It is not Hillary Clinton.”
You vocalized exactly how I feel. Of course I still feel the pain that the Clintons unleashed on PBO. However, I have seen Hillary “evolve”, if I can use that shopworn word. She’s just not that good an actress to look as sincere as she does concerning PBO. I wish the whiny left on the radio would start actually looking at Hillary in the debates and on the campaign trail. This is a very different candidate. I will never love the Clintons like I naively did in the 90’s, but I am comfortable with her as POTUS. Bernie would be a disaster.

I was so disappointed that he decided not to run, but I am very excited he is heading the moonshot! Knowing this administration, I don’t think they would have made this a goal if they didn’t think major progress was attainable. VP Biden will passionately and personally see this realized.
Speaking of our beloved Joe - he is what, we call in Yiddish, a mensch. If he couldn’t do and be what’s best for the country, he wasn’t going to do it out of ego.

O.k. 57, I have a Yiddish question for you. My mom used to refer to a toe cramp (when one of your toes straightens uncontrollably and painfully and sticks out) as an “ishkabibble”. I think this is a nickname she and her sisters and possibly my grandma gave to toe cramps and I always thought that they had made the word up themselves. I was surprised to find out later that ishkabibble is some sort of Yiddish word, although I am confused as to the meaning. Here is the odd thing: we are not Jewish :-) My Aunt’s first husband was Jewish, so maybe that’s where the family’s use of it came from, but I can’t figure out how they came to refer to a toe cramp with that term :-) Any theories?
This has some information. Maybe the phrase was commonly known because of the comedian Merwyn Bogue whose stage name was Ish kabibble and your family picked it up to use in that situation, or maybe it was a reference from the show.

Good morning TOD, I just want to bring a progress report. You all have been with me through the journey of my husband’s deteriorating health, to his passing, through my adjustment to being alone. I have now passed the six month mark, which is a milestone for me. I am learning to cope, and thanks to my friends and support and love, I am making progress, I think.
However, today is an important anniversary for me. Fifty years ago today, my darling and I met on a blind date. It was like a bolt of lightning for both of us. After meeting, we never looked away or back. I have had the privilege of loving him for fifty years. I have learned that love, doesn’t stop, it expands. We always celebrated January 29th, it was our special day. So, I called a very good friend and invited her to go to lunch with me in honor of Darwin. It won’t be the same, but she is a marvelous friend and counselor.
Two weeks ago my son and family came. (This was the first time they had been emotionally to come since the funeral). As we sat around the fireplace,something clicked inside me that said You will have a life. Also, the house felt like a home again for the first time in six months. We visited his grave Sunday morning. Emily had brought special dressup clothes for the visit!
So, again, thanks to all of you. I am reading every day, thought not commenting.

When he speaks like this and uses our language, he isn’t talking to the gaggle of white reporters who now fawn over the man whose ability many doubted. He is speaking directly to his people—to us. And for Newton, it’s always been about us.

I thought the same thing while reading an article about Trump’s “third party candidacy”. (It was about why there was no room for a Bloomberg third party run). Sander is doing the same thing, and although he seemed to play nicely for a while, more and more he is criticizing and tearing down the party that allowed him to use their name.

How does a candidate who wasn’t there come out on top? By my count, there were five relevant angles to this.
1. Trump won because his principal foe lost.
In Iowa, among other places, the Republican frontrunner’s principal foe is Ted Cruz. And while the Texas senator may have the best raw debating skills of any GOP candidate in many years, last night’s event in Des Moines was rough for the Republican lawmaker. With Trump out, the remaining candidates (and the moderators) largely directed their fire at the candidate whom they (a) are trailing in Iowa; and (b) dislike personally anyway.
Cruz turned in his worst debate performance of the cycle, appearing unsteady in the face of repeated criticisms, on the night he needed to shine. The result: Trump saw his closest competitor stumble, and he didn’t have to lift a finger to make it happen.
First of all Trump won because he knows how to play the stupid ass media. Instead of ignoring Trump, the media gave him all the attention he wanted.The media want to talk about how Trump supporters doesn’t turn away from him regardless what he says or how he acts, well neither does the media.
Trump is sending a messes to the media, unless you treat me like the “Great White Hope” that I am, I will not give you any of my time. If Senator Barack H. Obama went around saying the things Trump says he would never have been elected. And the right wing haters would trash him even more then they have. Look at how some are treating the Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, all because Cam have confidence in his self, and he shows it. I am willing to bet that the ones who have problem with Cam Newton are white people. Not all white people. I hope Cam wipes the floor with Peyton.

President Barack Obama will return to his old stomping grounds Feb. 10 and deliver an address to the Illinois General Assembly.
Obama will talk about “what we can do, together, to build a better politics — one that reflects our better selves,” according to a travel advisory from the White House.
The visit will come nine years after Obama announced his candidacy for president, and amid a historic budget impasse between Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner and Democrats who control the General Assembly. Rauner name-checked the president during his annual State of the State address this week, citing his support for term limits and changing how legislative districts are drawn — ideas that ruling Democrats have resisted.

Bernie on Twitter crowing about Medicare. I’m reminding him that we pay premiums, co-pays, deductibles, 20% of care given, supplemental insurance, & health care is rationed. Plus the donut hole that only PBO was able to at least reduce.
Bernie’s single payer “plan” says none of those problems will exist. So STFU about how great Medicare is, when there are out-of-pocket expenses in Medicare that you magically think will disappear.
I’m afraid of this guy. I really, really am.
I was talking to a woman at PT the other day. She had knee replacement surgery with complications. She needs additional PT but Medicare will only cover 19 visits/yr. It’s January. If she uses up her 19 visits, then she has to wait a year for surgery on the other knee.
Where does Bernie think the 44% of “cost savings” are going to come from?
These are the realities. Taxes cannot cover absolutely every expense, and all procedures, like Bernie implies will happen in the Magical Health Care Plan.
