    “Bill Maher: Republicans have gone way beyond ‘zombie lies’ to ‘just making sh*t up’”

    http://www.rawstory.com/2016/01/bill-maher-republicans-have-gone-way-beyond-zombie-lies-to-just-making-sht-up/

    ======

    “In a very short time, Republicans have gone beyond even the ‘zombie lie’ to just making sh*t up,” he marveled.

    He singled out presidential candidate Carly Fiorina’s insistence that she watched video showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing how to harvest the brain of a “fully-formed fetus on [a] table,” a charge she has defended despite all evidence to the contrary proving her wrong.

    “That video doesn’t exist, unless you subscribe to Nutflix,” Maher ranted.

    Morning everyone! So sad about Serena losing, thought she looked exhausted in that final set, really weary. But she was so, so gracious in defeat, love her.

      G’morning Chips - yes I’m bummed but I agree that Serena really didn’t play her best - she was at 50, likely from a combination of fatigue and immense pressure/nerves.

      Meanwhile, Kerber deserved to win - she was the better player of the two. She really upped her game today, and if anyone had to beat Serena on this tour, I would have wanted it to be her. There seemed to have been as much buzz around Serena’s excellent display of professional sportsmanship and grace in defeat as there was on Kerber’s victory.

      All in all I say congratulations to the winner, and well-done to both ladies in the final match!! :) :)

      good morning Mr. Bob;

      I, too, suspect this to be the case. I hope we are right …. this NK represents one more “nuclear-armed nut” to crack. I wonder if NK’s young leader sees the trend and also understands that if he hopes to get a reasonable offer from the international community, it would be best if PBO is still in charge.

      I have sent PBO messages encouraging him to keep working on this …. not that I hold any sway but a person can always encourage those working on things that benefit humanity & the world as a whole

        It matters, Linda, that you write encouraging letters to President Obama. He needs to know that he has our support as he pursues one of his highest priorities - reducing nuclear weapons proliferation. Thank you!

    The main Syrian opposition group has said it will join peace talks that have opened in Geneva.

    The Saudi-backed High Negotiations Committee (HNC) earlier said it would only join if Syrian government forces ended their air strikes and blockades.

    UN envoy Staffan de Mistura has already met the Syrian government’s delegation in the Swiss city.

    More than 250,000 people have died and 11 million have fled their homes in almost five years of war in Syria.

    The Syrian civil war has also been the biggest driver behind Europe’s migration crisis.

    Morning. Had a great time yesterday at MIL’s 96th birthday party and got to play for hours with our three-year old granddaughter. What a treat!!
    Today we’ll see the “Live from the Met” broadcast of Turandot at a local theater and I never fail to get caught up in Puccini’s lyric genius. It’s amazing how freeing it is to step away from politics for a few hours. Three-year-olds only care about games, stories and affection and they are 100 percent genuine and without guile. It’s good to find that simple, happy, uncluttered place in ourselves whenever we can.

    GM TOD! Up at this god awful hour of the weekend b/c I had to take someone to the airport :( To make things worse I had recorded the Australian final at 3:30 a.m. and it ran out 3-2 in the third….only to find out Serena lost. She is always so kind & gracious in defeat…..except Sharapova, who I hate & Azarenka who stole her hitting partner of a decade to try to learn how to beat her. Anyways gonna pull for Djokovic or Murray (whines too much) ……Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

        Well I get a weekend off from football so as long as Auburn wins tonight in Basketball & Djoker will in the morning I’ll be ok. I’m truly going to be beside myself for the week leading up to the Super Bowl (really hoping Cam Newton and Carolina crush the Broncos) on the plus side since CBS is broadcasting the game no Bill O or Matt Lauer interview….instead Gayle King will interview PBO & FLOTUS an hour before the game and probably party with them during the game :)

        I can’t help it. I’m a gambler. Even the dumbest matches/games impact me. I’m trying to make it to Santa Clara for the Super Bowl, but cheapest ticket right now is ~3500 for nose bleed seats (though down fro 5600 a week ago) I’m probably going to just go to Vegas for the weekend b/c I have two exams next week and won’t have to worry about classes for another month test wise….

      I really do not get why a British band from a country that does not even have the sport is the headline entertainment at the 50th Super Bowl, this most North American, USA event. Added to this, Chris Martin has a weak-ass voice, such poor enunciation that I have no idea what he is singing about and the overall band does not have the kick-ass quality that so many other American groups and individuals have, nor has he the storied career of someone like Paul McCartney (I liked his show and he has long been a friend of the USA and some of his children had an American mother). There will be many who have no idea who Cold Play is. Will be skipping the half-time show (the only thing I watch anyway) this year.

        After the Janet Jackson Justin Timberlake episode the NFL tried to go super conservative in their half time acts….last year Katy Perry Being the exception. But they have had Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, and the Who as English acts in the past few years.

    At his town hall meeting in Iowa City on Friday, the Republican presidential candidate insulted people with low IQs and lamented that they were allowed to vote. He said it was “disturbing” that many people are unable to pass the written test to get into the military…

    …a graduate student …asked Carson: If you’re so passionate about being educated, then why don’t you accept the science of human-caused climate change? “You’ve spoken a lot about using common sense and using your brain, and I really appreciate that,” … “And in some of the questions in the debates, you responded that you really seek the input of experts.”… “The experts in the scientific community overwhelmingly agree that climate change is a problem. Can you explain that discrepancy, and why you’re not willing to listen to the experts?”

    [Carson] responded by saying that the climate science is “politicized.” ,,,But the most notable portion of Carson’s response was what he didn’t say — and that’s anything about the actual science of human-caused climate change. Carson said the EPA had become politicized and that the Clean Power Plan wouldn’t work, but he didn’t say anything surrounding the actual question, which was why, scientifically, he doesn’t accept that climate change is a problem.

    [Graduate student said that] he just didn’t understand how someone could preach the importance of education while denying mainstream science.

    “If he’s going to stand up there and say we need to listen to the experts, and we need to use our brains — 97 percent of the scientific community agrees on this one,” he said. “It’s not just politicizing the issue. It’s a little more than that.”

      Despite the innuendoes to the contrary, Serena and Venus have always been gracious in defeat. Though I never want to see either of them lose to anyone, I like Angelique and enjoy her play and there is obviously great affection between she and Serena. You’ll never see their “darling” Sharapova being that gracious to anyone. Serena will beat Steffi Graf’s record and will probably do it this year.
