Bob, this is a horrific situation. Why has it been given so little international attention? And what’s to be gained by allowing people to die in
the basement of a building? This level of sadistic barbarism is so hard to understand.
“This level of sadistic barbarism is so hard to understand.”
Yes, JackieG. It’s impossible to understand. Unfortunately, as we witness in Flint and in many aspects of past and current American history, the combination of hate, greed & lust for unrestrained power is the most toxic brew humans have ever concocted.
GOING TO MISS THE ENERGIZER ALOT NEXT WEEK…LOOKS LIKE HE’S GOING TO BE SPENDING LOTS OF TIME IN THE BUBBLE….:(…I NEED TO BE A MOUSE IN THE PEOPLE’S HOUSE……………………………….OFF TO CHURCH TODAY…TIME TO PRAISE THE LORD WITH SOME AWESOME RAP-PRAISE….EVERY DAY IS A TIME TO PRAISE THE LORD…EVERYTHING BELONGS TO HIM…GOD BLESS OUR PRESIDENT ON THIS FINE SUNDAY!…YOU ARE LOVED PBO!
Morning, Chips and early birds. I feel sympathy for anyone in Iowa today. They will know no peace until tomorrow night and then, as usual, Iowans will be forgotten for another four years. There’s got to be a better way.
Hi Jackie - pardon my ignorance - but do they grow lots of corn in Iowa? The main thing I ever learned about the US when at school was in geography & it related to “the corn belt of the USA”. Seems the weirdest thing to have learned - although at the time primary industries were very big in Australia (dairy, sheep & wheat) so maybe that was why. I have a vague memory we learned about Iowa - but it could be wrong??
99ts, we all learned what you did in school-the textbooks must have been universal. Iowa is a big farm state with some decent sized cities. Muscatel is the Iowa TODer, so we’ll have to ask her if she drops by today.
99, corn is important because corn oil is used in just about every kind of processed food product. The American diet is heavily corn based, which has been a health concern for some time.
In Australia, ethanol is made from waste products as sugar cane, the waste from starch production, and red sorghum. Guess every country uses what it has readily available.
I was pleased to watch Murray get defeated by Djokovic in the tennis this evening. The former did his usual ranting and a couple of arguments with the ref. The commentators reminded me of the US political pundits - kept raving about Murray “breaking through, doing well”. Murray lost in straight sets. Djokovic had a few wayward moments - but he deserved the win.
Meanwhile India keep winning the cricket. amk will no doubt be more insufferable than usual. sigh.
17 off last over wasn’t expected at all. If you look at the overall picture, it’s 4-4 tie, really. half full cup and all that.
yes, we are better at t-20 (which is not cricket at all, just some clowns show). Our winning margins were much better than what the mons… aussies could eek out in 50 overs format.
The little girl looks so content in PBO’s arms. I imagine she did not want to let go. :-) I love that he is so comfortable around children…and they are so comfortable around him. It says so much about his spirit. PBO’s spirit is part of what has made him a good, successful POTUS.

Bloomberg threw a lavish party here Saturday night to reveal the results of the final Bloomberg Politics/Des Moines Register Iowa Poll, which included some disappointing results for the company’s founder, Michael Bloomberg.
As servers at the makeshift Bloomberg TV studio inside the Marriott hotel passed trays of canapes and flutes of champagne to journalists and political operatives, the results were revealed: The man footing the bill for the event had a higher unfavorability rating compared with every other candidate, Democrat and Republican, with two exceptions: Jeb Bush and Sarah Palin.
The survey found that 41 percent of likely Republican caucus-goers and 57 percent of likely Democratic caucus-goers do not know Bloomberg well enough to share an opinion. For those who do know him, 50 percent of Republican caucus-goers have an unfavorable view of the former New York Mayor, versus just 9 percent who hold a favorable opinion. Among those likely to attend the Democratic caucuses, 26 percent had an unfavorable view and 17 percent had a favorable view. Bush had a 53 percent unfavorability rating while Palin had a 50 percent unfavorability.
Cultured State I love this…….Imagine if progressives loved black people as much as they love black votes. I am trying to figure out how President Obama let them down so much.
President Obama is also brilliant and one of the best strategic minds ever to grace the presidency. He defied all expectations and refused to fit into the pigeonholes people created for him. For some, the cognitive dissonance has been overwhelming. So rather than reexamine their own racist assumptions, they blamed their bigotry on him.
Apparently some in the progressive movement wanted to be saved by someone that looks like them. That’s why their arguments as it relates to President Obama are so asinine. The fact that a President can bring about healthcare, and can end marriage inequality, and can end two wars, and can open up Cuba and Iran, with Iran giving up its nuclear ambitions and materials without firing a single shot. And can restore the stature of the United States of American, and still some in the progressive party still complain. The only thing left to examine is the root cause for their almost palpable disdain for this President.
It has seemed like many progressives are for Sanders because finally they can stop pretending they like the black guy and can be ‘saved’ by a white guy instead.
Seventy-four year old white guys that have benefited from every law ever written, and are part of the establishment, and that have enjoyed the luxury of sitting on their ass in Washington for thirty plus years and doing absolutely nothing do not have the right to use the word “Revolution” as a means of getting elected to undo the accomplishments of President Obama that has put this country on a path to a more perfect union.
“Bill Press speaks truth to power: on radio, on television, and in this book. And the truth is, while President Obama has done a lot of good, his administration has let many progressives down.”

from the article:
The book is The American Health Care Paradox: Why Spending More is Getting us Less, by Elizabeth H. Bradley and Lauren A. Taylor. Their answer: we spend more because we’re sicker, and we’re sicker because we spend less than peer countries on social services that have a bigger impact on health than medical care does: housing, nutrition, education, the environment and unemployment support.
yeah, have a lot to say about the so-called progressives criticizing PBO while using his very name and image to try and make loads of money.
since i saw the title yesterday, I have been trying to remain calm and put my responses into coherent sentences …. but i still need someone to hold me back …. well if not, then hold my earrings & wig ….. this is one of those times i need a more cool head/soul to restrain me from doing damage to some lackey
I am so sick of this whole thing. I use to listen to Bill Press but since PBO I have listened less, then I happen to turn him on the day he announced his book. I was so sick I almost thru up. Then now to see the picture and the words by Sanders. There is so much white privilege there. My calm is gone. I have such a deep anger for these people.
these people can try the patient of a saint …. and I ain’t no saint.
i can imagine what I would be thinking if I was PBO who has worked so hard for changes to the lives of ordinary people while being attacked from all sides.
It is amazing how he manages to go only everyday with so much joy, dignity, determination and seeming to hold no grudges for the low lives out there
So…the usual suspects are profiting off a President. Color me shocked. How long have Ellison and Sanders been in respective jobs? For Ellison, since 2006. Sanders, since 1990. Gee…I didn’t hear all this purified teeth gnashing going on before now…. Eyes on the North Star people. In the end, it doesn’t matter what they say. We see them. How many people even know who Bill Press is? When so many Americans think Judge Judy is on the Supreme Ct…..Let’s put this in perspective:)
Yes, I want the family that got healthcare passed and got marriage equality passed, and saved the economy and the auto industry, and ended DADT. Yes, bring them back, but then again they are already in the White House.
Don if I was near you I would give you a high five. The greatest Democratic family in modern day history is already in the White House. You better believe it.
Good morning tod
Good morning to ya, 57!!! How are the doggies doing?
Morning Chips and Danny. Pups are good. Time to spend all Sunday morning cooking for Kasper, who eats better than we do.
:-) When you’re finished cooking for Kasper, cook for me!
Good morning Chips and 57f :)
The combination of GWBush + Dick Cheney + Assad + lots of Saudi/Salafi $$$ is proving to be mighty disastrous ….
And, let’s not forget the handiwork of another Salafi despot ….
These are all volunteers who know they are risking their lives and the lives of their families ….
Seriously ….
Erdogan needs to be more than condemned; he needs to be removed.
Agree …. by his own people!!!
There are monsters in the world.
PRAYERS FOR ALL OF THESE BRAVE SOULS…BECAUSE…GOD CAN!
What incredibly brave people. I hope and pray that they get out of this safely.

Hope you and Danny are enjoying your Sunday morning, Chips :)
We certainly are Bob, thank you - happy Sunday to you!

Ah - thanks jackie - so my memory isn’t completely gone :) I never did work out why corn was so important - will look for Muscatel to explain.
99, corn is important because corn oil is used in just about every kind of processed food product. The American diet is heavily corn based, which has been a health concern for some time.
I don’t think it is used so much in Oz - but would have to double check.
Corn is also used in biofuel and is used heavily for livestock feed
In Australia, ethanol is made from waste products as sugar cane, the waste from starch production, and red sorghum. Guess every country uses what it has readily available.
Once again, brave women at the forefront. Thank you, Bob.

Damn, I thought he’d reached peak insufferable :-(
I fear not - but we can always hope (now who was it talked about hope?) :)
No hope of change, 99ts - none.
So I’ve just seen below
As we feared, no hope at all.
whatever happened to da petal?
Oh, you’re here, hello petal.
petal… rrriiight.
99ts you don’t like Murray. :)
That about covers it bella - I don’t like on court histronics - many of today’s players have given that up - so it’s enjoyable to watch a game.
I was rooting for Djoker to win, and I’m glad he is once again the champ. :)
3-0 brown wash, baybee. 8-) 8-) 8-)
Oh gawd, poor 99ts.
I was jus’ gonna say, we won 3-0 against their B team, yay, but then …. #instigation
Last over was impressive - but still got to get to 4:1
Your guys must run out of puff - can’t win better than 20 over game (says she running away)
17 off last over wasn’t expected at all. If you look at the overall picture, it’s 4-4 tie, really. half full cup and all that.

As usual, the editorial cartoonists are able to say how things are in a nutshell.

Morning, AMK. I guess Bloomberg isn’t as famous or as well liked as he thought he was. I’m somehow finding it hard to shed a tear.
the hubris of these billionaire clowns is stunning.

bbc has turned into a barbara walters column
the famous
dmramk poll on poll eve (the real one) - Hillz by six points. The question is: Should HRC secure the Dem nomination, who will she select as her VP?
why is that even a q? of course, amk.. I bring the entire O coalition to the ticket. the real q is how much it is worth to her?
.
That much money? I am in.

It has seemed like many progressives are for Sanders because finally they can stop pretending they like the black guy and can be ‘saved’ by a white guy instead.
G’morning Chips, TOD, lurkers, and congrats 57 on #1! Happy Sunday everyone :)
Is he backpedaling or what?!?!? That is a mighty contradiction right there, Mr. Sanders… We. Are. Not.Fooled.
his inetrnal poll must be showing a blowout for hillary tomorrow?
WE ARE NOT FOOLED…..
