As we welcome February into this New Year I want to update you all who are interested in the TOD meetup this June.
Tentatively we are doing a White House visit on June 17, 2016. I am working with my contact to try and get all of us on the tour at the same time. I hope to have confirmation this week. Also, I plan to coordinate visits to some of our world renowned museums and monuments and possibly a show and dinner while you are here in DC that weekend.
Needless to say I am not a travel agent but I can assist you with the best areas for your hotel stay while here.
We’ve been discussing this for some time so those of you who are seriously contemplating this trip I need you to contact me via my TOD email address to let me know that you will be attending. I need to give my contact an estimate of how many people will be attending.
My contact is a former Secret Service agent and I can vouch for him. You will have to submit personal/private information to the White House for clearance in order to attend. I will NOT be privy to this information. I will have NO involvement in your clearance.

p.s. Now that the primary season is here you will see less of me because I am volunteering on Anthony Brown’s congressional campaign so catch me when you can. ;)

I’ve just been in a conversation on twitter with a Sanders supporter (Male). He was talking about Hillary being ‘establishment’, i pointed out that she’s running for a position that no female has ever held and that Sanders is an older white man running for a position that older white men have always held, so who’s the establishment? (I tried to keep my tone civil). The reply was ‘Gender doesn’t matter”. I pointed out the gender does matter if you’re a female running for president. I got “You’re naive if you think gender matters” and I told him he was naive if he thought that it doesn’t. He riposted “Identity politics don’t matter in presidential elections; the issue matter”. I said, “You’re naive if you think they don’t”. I don’t know why I kept going; he just got under my skin. So, my identity doesn’t matter and I’m not allowed to make my decision based on what matters to me as a woman (or person of color, or whatever), because, I was told, All those issues are really “ECONOMIC ISSUES”. Soooooo fed up. But I don’t think this is just these berniebros going off on their own. I think this is Sanders whole attitude. It doesn’t matter what YOU think your issues are because he KNOWS it’s all about income inequality.
Good observation, Maryl1, the denial that gender or color affect elections or justice or economics represents such tunnel vision. Sanders has this same viewpoint of the world and it really is confined to a very limited life experience. Sanders attracts people who see the world in this limited way because he sees the world this way.

I have thought about this many times. It seems as if Hillary Clinton’s campaign has had the discipline and the quiet strength of the OFA model. Sanders said something about OFA should not have been disbanded by the President and I thought once again, Obama volunteers, staff and appointees work their tail off in unassuming ways making headway even through obstruction all these years and people like Sanders don’t even know about it. I can’t say how many times I’ve commented over the years that all this work is going on only to be dismissed by the cynical left.
That’s because I think Clinton has a lot of people that were involved in Obama’s campaign running thing. I know that two of my OFA Team leaders are involved in her South Jersey campaign.

That’s it. I won’t say there’s no difference between the two, because whatever my beefs with Sanders, I’d take him over Trump in a heartbeat, but they are both appealing to angry people and promising them unicorns and rainbows.
What occurred to me first was the angry white guy thing. To me, that would be the only common denominator between Trump and Sander’s appeal.
They’re both talking about economic issues. A lot of the young people for Sanders are mad about student debt and the slightly older ones about the income they lost through not getting good jobs straight out of school.

Where is the black ‘Revenant’? Or the Latino ‘The Kids Are All Right’? Or the Asian ‘Black Swan’? THR’s Marc Bernardin wonders why those movies don’t get made.
The fact that, for the second year in a row, there are no actors of color nominated for Oscars in the acting categories has triggered a tanker-full of Internet think pieces because that’s what the Internet does. There have been calls for a boycott. There have been suggestions that Chris Rock should recuse himself from hosting the ceremony Feb. 28, although he doesn’t plan to do so. And it has led to changes at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences designed to diversify its membership, which is 93 percent white and 76 percent male.
But those responses address the symptoms and not the disease — it’s like prescribing skin cream for red blotches instead of dealing with the underlying condition. The real root cause behind the all-white acting nominations is that no one is making black Oscar bait.
Yep, we always have to be about the “struggle,” we never get a chance to make movies about dumb shit or movies about casual everyday shit that doesn’t have a meaning. We are never shown in different shades or degrees, we’re either militant or we’re trying to help someone reach their higher self at our own expense. From “Bagger Vance” to some movie about some black maid helping some young minor (usual white female) overcome obstacles. All the years I’ve watched Law&Order I’ve never saw an episode that had a black teenager that didn’t talk slang, its always “yo” or “moms” or some other street wise shit that black kids only seem to know. Our complexity is never examined, it is as though we are two dimensional lacking any sort of depth.

My son casually mentioned last night at Sunday dinner that when the lottery jackpot was at 800 million (before it got to 1 billion) that he and 25 of his co-workers had won $50,000.00. They apparently had 4 of the numbers and the powerball. I was like, you’re just telling me this now? He say, well after taxes and splitting their winnings they each ONLY got about $1500.00. I was like I’ll take $1500.00 on a $10.00 bet any day!!!
