I keep hoping there is a % of republicans that still have a brain - sane people could not vote for most of their candidates. I think this is where the BernieBots are hoping to get votes - but, especially given the weather, maybe they will just stay home.

This was a new perspective for me. If the President accomplishes it it must be easy peasy. Very very bigoted. Maybe that is why the Sanders followers don’t get how hard this all is. I do know Hillary Clinton knows how hard this is so there’s that.

The Iowa Caucus Explained - With Legos

Every four years, New Hampshire proudly touts its first-in-the-nation status. But technically, while our presidential contest is the first primary in the nation, it isn’t the first time voters get to weigh in. That honor, of course, belongs to Iowa’s Caucus.

But what exactly is a caucus? How does it work? Who gets to participate?

Where we sit, the whole process seems pretty mysterious. Lucky for us, we aren’t the only ones who feel that way.

Our friends at Vermont Public Radio also had plenty of questions about Iowa’s caucus, and they set out to answer them. With Legos. Take a look:

You can read VPR’s original story right here.

    Hi TODers,

I just had an email conversation with someone who I’ve known casually since 2007. She indicated that she supports Bernie because but thinks Hillary will be the nominee. Here’s what blew me away about this: During the 2008 primaries she and her spouse were both Hillary supporters big time.

At the time, I assumed their enthusiastic support of Clinton was because they were white boomer gay women and wanted to see a woman president. In fact, we had long conversations in which I reminded them of how Senator Obama spoke about gay rights while addressing a Black congregation and what a big deal that was (back then). They reluctantly came around to supporting PBO once it was clear he was winning the primaries and were definite supporters once he was the nominee.

Fully expected them to be HRC supporters this time around as well. So why on earth would Bernie be their first choice for this election? She said she believes “we need Bernie but will probably get Hillary”

Back in ’08, Senator Obama represented a challenge to the status quo but she didn’t support him then, she supported Hillary. So what’s different now? How do I see this any other way than they were only skeptical of Obama because of his color?

I am already over this bull shit election cycle. If Bill doesn’t fuck it up for Hillary (he her biggest deficit), she will probably get the Dem. nomination. The general, after the usual dirty tricks, will fall along predictable lines and the end will be close one. While Hills is not an inspirational figure nor a nuanced campaigner, she is a tough, smart lady who has been through so much that nothing the repub thugs and their surrogates will do will surprise or catch her off guard. I think that she will be able to get the country further up the hump and what the party will need to be doing i the meantime is seeking out and developing younger, non-traditional, 21st century leaders so that we can have a deeper field in the future. I refuse to get all upset about every little bump (we have seen all of this before) and will spend my time soaking up the final days of the historic and successful Obama administration and GOTVing. We had eight years of the dream, now we need to find a way to help to sustain and to improve on the gains that have been made as a result of the work of the Obama Dream Team. I have released my fears that we will have a repeat of the horror of the century; that followed the first Reconstruction in this country; we will not turn back and we are not afraid.

      February 1, 2025 at 5:34 pm

Nicely put, CEB. I reminded my friend the other day that, although HRC is not a good campaigner, once she is the nominee she will have PBO, FLOTUS and VP Biden all out stumping and firing up for her. Also, as much as I give Bill the side eye at times, he is a great campaigner as well. PBO joked he could be appointed “Secretary of Explaining Stuff” and I do remember he was a big help in 2012.

I too will be soaking up these final months of the greatest President and First Lady this country has ever seen.

Look how humble our PBO is as evidenced about where he is sitting. He does not have to be the center of attention or sitting in the front on an elevated chair (as LBJ did) to prove he is in charge. He has that natural confidence and power that is quietly evident in the way that he comports himself. His position also says that he has Joe’s back. Our guys are all kinds of wonderful.

CEB, I feel that your spirit of goodness in sharing your feelings in this comment and the one above hit the nail on the head. The first thing that caught my eye was where our POTUS is sitting and the look on his face. Knowing someone so dear and close to me who knows PBO always give PBO very high marks and spoken word as to his humbleness, and loving respect for those who are hurting. He has always worked for the long term in caring for mankind.
Thanks for your comment, CEB.((((((((((Thank you))))))))))HZ

      This is a BFD :-)

I’m so excited PBO has put VPB in charge of this. Knowing this administration and PBO, they would not set these ambitious goals if they didn’t think reaching them was possible. As VP said, “Listen, I’m not Bernie Sanders…..I’m not a populist. But I’m a realist.”

I lost my Dad and other family to cancer and quite a few of my friends are fighting or have recovered from it. I’m so grateful for the Cancer Moonshot.

So, when “curing cancer” gets added to saving the economy and auto industry, bringing justice to Bin Laden, providing affordable healthcare to millions and combating climate change, how will they spin “disappointment” then?

I have begun using the term “disappointeds” but what it really means is bigoted. Either what was accomplished was easy because President Obama did it (couldn’t get health care through for 60 years before that but its easy, right) or its something like President Obama was the house boy and didn’t shine the shoes well enough, or they scuffed the shoes just so they could rail that they were disappointed.

This is such a tremendous undertaking…when i think of a cure for cancer…i have always thought of that as an impossibility…that if it was possible…it would have happened…..but now ….just suppose …just suppose we were able to find a cure…it would be soooooooooooo Monumental,,,,that words would not be enough ….i lost my sister to breast cancer and my dad to lung cancer…i hope pray for success….

Well, the big day is finally here. We’re off in the next half hour to the elementary school behind our house, to sit in the gym with our neighbors and form into preference groups (aka, the Iowa Caucuses). We foolishly thought today would be the calm before the storm, but during the 5:30 news it was wall-to-wall campaign ads, one after the other after the other. Hillary, Marco, Bernie, Donald – arg, make it stop. Here’s hoping they stop having Iowa be the first in the nation before the next presidential campaign! I’ll share my impressions when we get back home. :-)

Add that to the ridiculously long list of slights against him for doing the same thing any other president had the “allowance” to do, such as welcoming in a new school year to children. I will never, ever forgive this backwards ass nation for that, among other things.
