Maybe in the next 5 or 10 years we will point to this moment when Cancer cures will be as common as cold cures. Thanks to PBO our loved ones will never have to die from Cancer.
Here is my report on our trip to the Iowa caucuses - I thought a timeline would be the best layout:
6:20 - We got to the Kirkwood Elementary School gym (Coralville Precinct #5) it was already pretty crowded at the check-in.
6:23 - Went into the gym – HRC table along the west wall, BS table along the east wall, and MoM table on the north side. The HRC table had water, munchies, and bumperstickers. The BS table had water and a few t-shirts.
6:40 - Standing room only, large number standing on BS side, lesser so on HRC side
7:00 – Still not started, must be processing stragglers - impatience starting to be noted
7:15 – Finally get started with the reading of a letter from state chair, passing envelopes to collect money for local and state party, electing a permanent chair/secretary for the precinct
7:25 – Manually counted everyone in the room – 321 total, excluding observers and kids
7:40 – First viability grouping – have to have 15% or at least 48 in the group – only 2 MoM supporters and 4 undecideds
7:45 – First totals HRC 141 and BS 180 – first realignment to change groups, persuade MoM supporters and undecided
8:05 – Still 3 undecideds, so have hold 2nd alignment for 15 minutes – many rude comments from the back row about what kind of idiot could possibly still be undecided??
8:15 – Manual recount done, HRC ended at 146 (46%) and BS at 174 (54%) – this was expected, due to all the University students in the community - not sure what happened to the original count of 321
8:20 – The next step is to nominate state delegates, so everyone started leaving
8:35 – We got home again, not a bad evening’s work! Mr. Muscatinegal was well-fed at the caucus, having a donut, a bag of trailmix, and some fruit snacks from the HRC booth.
Here’s seriously hoping that Iowa either goes to a primary system or that someone else gets the first status next time! :-)
Thank you for the post - was this a large turnout for your group? I’m reading the GOP turnout was way up on 2012 - no-one seems to be mentioning the dems
Today’s Google doodle is an image of Frederick Douglass, the escaped slave who became one of the most eloquent and influential abolitionists in American history. The doodle signals the start of Black History Month, which grew out of earlier traditions such as “Negro History Week” and offers a period of intensive reflection on the contributions of blacks to the history of the United States while also reminding the country of the historical realities of slavery and other unspeakable ills pushed on African Americans due to de facto and de jure racism.
Douglass, who was believed to have been born in February, 1818 is of special interest to libertarians for many reasons. As Damon Root has written for Reason, Douglass was a true classical liberal who believed in individualism, strong property rights, and voluntary philanthropy as the best way to create a free, prosperous, and inclusive society.
Trump deserves a whole lot of humiliation!!! Now he knows how it feels. He was counting on all of the attention from the media to get him over the finish line in Iowa tonight. Oh well!!!
Hillary’s campaign is declaring victory. Outstanding precincts are pro-Clinton, and doubtless they already know the results before they are officially reported.
So all those people who don’t believe in government spent millions of $$$ to lead what they don’t believe in & at the end of the day, the top 3 got very close to equal delegates.
I like that the dems believe that government can do good things, and that is why they want to lead it.
watching PBS and the consensus is that it is still too close to call. They are also saying that either way, HRC has a heck of a lot work to do. Gwen Ifill acknowledged that the Obama Coalition is no longer reflected in the map.
Not much of a O coalition in lily white iowa. So clueless pundtwit strikes again. Having said that, it is an impressive show by BS. Any margin under 3% is a big win for him and his supporters. And yes, hillz has to up her game.
Also a little tacky. Usually the campaign waits for the official broadcast and then comes humbly out to acknowledge victory, saying “Me? Oh gracious!” Of course, “old rules” don’t count, this election - Ha!
NCLB, Cruz will never be President. According to the folks on PBS, the Republicans in leadership are already looking to support Rubio as their only hope because he seems to be the only one left that the rest of the nation may actually consider as electable on the GOP side.
Cruz started with “To God be the glory,” so I actually went looking for a response from “TheTweetOfGod” on twitter. Cracking myself up, over here! These RWNJs mess with yer mind! :)
After I muted him, looked like Cruz was reading from a book - maybe Green Eggs and Ham, again, I thought.
But, no, went back and checked and he was reading from the Bible. And he just mentioned the Judeo-Christian values that formed our nation. Which is fine, if we didn’t have the separation of …
Oh, never mind. He just said “Yes we can.” I’m done.
Thanks Nerdy.
I would like to do the same to stop PBO.
COS, you did it again!
Congrats.
Thx No Child. I guess it is just my day. :)
:)
Striking differences.
Maybe in the next 5 or 10 years we will point to this moment when Cancer cures will be as common as cold cures. Thanks to PBO our loved ones will never have to die from Cancer.
Thanks, NW! That made me chuckle, giggle & agree all at the same time. :)
P.S. Referring to the pic at top of post, w/ that tweet!
:)
NW, thanks for the post and that picture. Love it!
:)

Thank you muscatinegal, for going to caucus and for giving us such a detailed play by play of the experience!
Thank you for the post - was this a large turnout for your group? I’m reading the GOP turnout was way up on 2012 - no-one seems to be mentioning the dems
Someone should tweet that to PBO, but don’t tweet it to FLOTUS. She won’t agree with us 😊
For sure!
:D :D
Best tweet of the night so far. Hope it stays that way.
Jeb! can run for Rubio’s seat as Rubio and Cruz will run an immigration law firm to deport all immigrants.
Wrong tweet! Sorry.
Correct tweet below.
The media CW has already decided the winner of Iowa is Marco Rubio, and Hillary lost because delegates.
Nope….It’s Cruz for the win. Split decision on the Dems. except O’Malley.
To clarify (Rubio coming in 3rd) is the actual winner tonight is what I was trying to get at.
Yeah. He’s talking like he is.
Huh??
I posted about my experiences at the Iowa Caucuses -but it must have been too long, b/c I don’t see it here?
freed you.
Sit down if you were standing up.
Good grief. I may need to take a very deep breath here.
My parting contribution for today.

How nice if both future immigration lawyers could crush Il Douche!
my take of the day.
sanders and rubio won the expectations game.
hillz has to up her game.
Oh, this is priceless. It’s YUUUUUUGGGE!
Trump deserves a whole lot of humiliation!!! Now he knows how it feels. He was counting on all of the attention from the media to get him over the finish line in Iowa tonight. Oh well!!!
Just felt like it has to be said.
interesting that it took Sarah Palin’s full throated support of Donald Trump to move the needle for Cruz. lol
I don’t understand why everyone keep talking about moving Clinton to the left. Left of what??
LOL. Trying to disappear in the middle of the night when all light is on the Canadian! Ha!
Did Huckabee ever have a campaign?
:)
:) :)
oh SNAP!
Il Douche has begun the long list of critics.
LOL. what the fuck happened to making murka great again?
So Trump are complaining already.
Did he realize this was only Iowa?
2012
yup. I too caught it only now.
This cap is hilarious!!!!
Okay who won between Hillary and Bernie?
Very close bella - click here

Thanks Nerdy - a glorious tweet - surely there are millions who agree with the sentiment.
:)
Tuned in just as Marco started yapping…
and this bitch has the nerve to try to crib PBO…
Loved your tweets. And I’m glad you and I are on the same side - Ha!
Hillary’s campaign is declaring victory. Outstanding precincts are pro-Clinton, and doubtless they already know the results before they are officially reported.
This is good news. I just hope it sticks.
I get the point Jeremy is trying to make but POTUS never had a bad speech.
Nobody remembers how much a person won by. Only who won.
And Rubio is spouting off like he won something. - smh.
that was funny :-)
Oooooouch

I like that the dems believe that government can do good things, and that is why they want to lead it.
Now it’s Trump’s turn…..gag!
I forced myself to listen. He’ll go back to the plane and kick the dog now. And I laugh.
Il Douche will say that it’s a YUUUUUGGGE loss for this country not to elect him.
MOM is out. huckster is out. dr ben is out?
Ben is out of clothes - see NCLB tweet above - #45
Your Huck Finn cover tweet was hysterical! Glad he’s gone. Of course, Trump praised him, so maybe he’ll try to raise him from the dead.
:D :D :D
I love your “tweets”!
I think they will be happy to. By finishing within a coupla points of donald dreck with not much hoopla surrounding him is a bfd for them.
Trump lost. Can’t stop laughing at him.
When will they call the Dem race?
MSNBC says it’s still too close to call … only 90% in. Shouldn’t be long, I think.
Thx Jacqueline.
You are quite welcome, sugar.
OMG, wouldn’t it be grand to see him flame out hard and fast?
Yes, please.
So will the Cruz birthers be out in force for the rest of the campaign?
by a rough count, the goppers turn-out was over 150k which the pundtwits predicted will be a landslide for donald dreck. WRONG. AGAIN.
any idea about the dems turnout?
watching PBS and the consensus is that it is still too close to call. They are also saying that either way, HRC has a heck of a lot work to do. Gwen Ifill acknowledged that the Obama Coalition is no longer reflected in the map.

and no amk - they didn’t give any idea of numbers on the dem side.
I’m catching up, obviously. Chuckie Todd just said Hillary already declared a win, even though it hasn’t been called?
I wonder if the HRC gang are privy to internal information which we are not aware of? I hope so, because this could be quite embarrassing
Also a little tacky. Usually the campaign waits for the official broadcast and then comes humbly out to acknowledge victory, saying “Me? Oh gracious!” Of course, “old rules” don’t count, this election - Ha!
I know you are not surprised by that at all jacqueineoboomer :-)
she won the delegates counts fersure. so, yeah technically she is correct.
It was just a protocol thing to me.
Here comes creepy Cruz and the other creeps who are accompanying him.
I saw that and thought, those are some creepy as*ed men.
Of the two, Cruz is the most dangerous. Il Douche is simply a demagogue.
NCLB, Cruz will never be President. According to the folks on PBS, the Republicans in leadership are already looking to support Rubio as their only hope because he seems to be the only one left that the rest of the nation may actually consider as electable on the GOP side.
New post.

Some of these Trump fans are really psycho.
