You can sit back and enjoy the Religious Right tearing itself apart over the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. The process is well under way and won’t be finished until the votes are in after Election Day.
There are Cruz evangelicals and Rubio evangelicals and even Trump evangelicals. This latter category stirs the most amazement in observers, not least among evangelical observers. They can’t seem to wrap their minds around why their fellow “believers” (like Jerry Falwell, Jr.) would prefer Trump to the self-appointed messiah, Ted Cruz, who is, after all, the Chosen One of many Religious Right leaders.
As has been pointed out here and elsewhere, the so-called Religious Right is not all that religious – they don’t practice what they preach, with their babies born out of wedlock, their high divorce rates, their addiction to porn, their worship of money, and their failure to read their own Bible.
What they do do well is hate. In fact, what unifies them is hate, not Jesus, whose message of love they avoid like the plague. And Trump has effectively tapped into that hate by skipping over the middle man.
He has proven you don’t need a Bible you’ve never read in order to hate effectively.
Sure, in Iowa, Cruz managed to out-hate Trump and get a win, but that’s bucking the trend. Iowa talk radio host Steve Deace, who supports Cruz, talked to the American Family Radio’s Sandy Rios after the Iowa caucus and despite his hero’s win, he is really having a hard time with Trump’s appeal.

I loved PBO’s speech today. It was a master class in interfaith dialogue-relating Christianity, Judaism and Islam to a common source-Abraham-and a common rule of loving one another. It was about respecting our common humanity, but also embracing the responsibility to speak out and condemn intolerance wherever it festers. The haters on the right seem like petulant two-year olds compared to this evolved adult man. This is what real leadership looks like.

What an utterly nonsensical Bernie tweet. Of course you can be progressive on some issues and moderate on others. All that means is that you have a thinking brain that understands nuance and appreciates what is possible and what is not. I don’t know how this man has functioned in the real world with that rigid level of inflexibility. No wonder he shouts so much.
For Bernie and his gang, it must be *all* or it’s nothing. There’s so much in between that they don’t even *want* to consider.
Bernie Sander’s tweet actually perfectly illustrates the stark difference between him and President Obama and why I think he would be a disastrous President. It’s this “all or nothing” purity test politics that he and his supporters believe in. I am both moderate and progressive. I would say that President Obama’s willingness to moderate on many issues is how he has been able to effect such profound progress and change for this country.

I say you can like some progressive views and some moderate views all at the same time. It is not essential to be put into one box with one title to vote Democratic.
But more than that, each candidate selling themselves as the “anti-establishment” candidate in 2016 has one thing in common: they have poor records of actually getting things done in public policy. Good one, meta. The entire opposition to TPP is based on supposition and fear-very few have ever taken the time to actually read it. They just reflexively say it’s NAFTA on steroids without understanding that it fixes all the ills of NAFTA and replaces it. And not one of them has a solution to the way that the US can remain competitive in a global economy without the safeguards of TPP. They think that stomping their feet and whining will solve everything. Bernie is encouraging ignorance here.
After so many years of careful work and deliberation on TPP by PBO and his admin, it totally infuriates me that these knee-jerk emoprog slogans gain any traction whatsoever.
Clearly Bernie’s progressives do not understand the idea that to make progress one has to *move*! Like others have said here Bernie has his out-dated spiel and it seems like he’ll hang on to it to his last breath. Definitely not a ‘leader’ who can read the signs and adjust his route!

Extremely unlikely that Sanders will get the nomination. New Hampshire and Iowa are so unrepresentative of the Democratic party since they are mostly white. If Hillary’s firewall holds in SC, NV and across the South he will be toast and it won’t take until the end of the primaries as in 2008. Support for President Obama is so strong and Bernie continues to disrespect and bash him. Not to mention that his policies are so unrealistic: how can you even talk about a revolution when half the country is in thrall of the GOP?

I don’t mind that people change their minds or stances on any matters over the years. We all do. That’s how we evolve and grow. But to attack one because s/he is not a die-hard progressive is disingenuous. In fact, those hardliners, whether progressive or conservative, are the reason that things can’t get done in Washington or in any government. It’s either my way or the highway; I am always right and you are definitely wrong (or evil).
We all know that POTUS could have done more had he had a Congress he could work with. POTUS compromised many times even as many of us screamed in horror. He knew that he had to deliver, even if what he got from the repugs was limited and will not affect every person as he wanted. Even during the first 2 years, he had to “make compromises” with members of his own party, those people that were too scared even of their own shadows (Blanche Lincoln, Burt Tupac, Mary Landrieu, etc), those famous Blue Dogs.
Unless Bernie believes that once elected, Congress will surrender to his ascension to power and let him enact all these promises that he is spreading around his campaign, he is honestly misleading the thousands people that “believe in a future” where he will on his own correct all the ills of society and politics.
I’ve seen the comments from his supporters. He’s the bookend to Trump. He’s got them whipped up in a frenzy of disgust and indignation against all things they consider “centrist”, “establishment” and “third way”. Say the buzzwords and they go nuts.

Carly Fiorina on Wednesday urged the Republican National Committee to convince ABC News to let her into its presidential debate Saturday in New Hampshire.
The network had previously announced that it would not hold an undercard debate, effectively giving the former Hewlett-Packard CEO, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), former Pennsylvania Rick Santorum, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee the boot. All of those candidates, with the exception of Fiorina, dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses.
