Moooooooooorning GGail! I typed this epic story to update the doggy’s story, I hope you have five hours free :-)
A happy update on the lost dog - it has a new home!
A VERY long story, but I did all the usual to try and find his owner, contacted lots of places, put his photo on lost dog websites, etc. There was no sign of anyone looking for him and, as I feared, when I took him to the vet he wasn’t chipped.
I really, really wanted to keep him, but he and Danny were *very* aggressive towards each other, and while I wondered if they might get used to each other, the vet worried that they wouldn’t - she figured Danny was too used to being the only dog in the house and that the arrival of another male adult wouldn’t go down too well.
So while I was standing there agonising over what to do, in walks a woman.
The Vet knew her well, she’s a regular there with her own three dogs and often brings in dogs she rescues and then re-homes.
So, she asked about my fella’s story and while we were chatting he went up to her and gave her his paw. She nearly dissolved - the vet and myself nearly did too, it was like a scene from Love Story :-)
It was just amazing how they bonded. I don’t even want to think about what has happened him, he’s terrified, but you could see he just had complete trust in her - and she was so loving and kind to him.
So, next thing she says: ‘I’m taking him home!’
At this point I’m like, ‘what the hell am I going to do?’
When she went out to take a phone call, I asked the Vet about her, and she said the dog literally could not go to a better home, that her three dogs are all rescues that had been treated badly and that now they’re the happiest, most secure dogs on earth.
But then I wondered what we’d do if the owner came forward. The Vet said that quite honestly she’d prefer if the dog wasn’t returned to its owner, it obviously had not been treated well - and it looked like the owner was making no effort to find it. The fact that the dog wasn’t chipped didn’t say much for the owner either.
When the woman came back in we talked about it, and she said if the owner came forward she would return the dog if s/he had a good explanation for why it’s so terrified - e.g. if it had been missing for a long time and there’s proof they’d made an effort to find it.
So, she looked at the dog and said, ‘you’re coming home with me, Adam!’
Adam?
She has a little girl dog called Eve!!
Then another woman came in the door with a small dog and Adam started wagging his tail and playing with it, which made his new owner reckon he’d adore Eve!
So, we swapped numbers and she took him home.
And last night she texted me photos of him looking like he’d lived there all his life. One of them was a selfie with her, he’s almost unrecognisable from the dog I found, he just looks happy! (I’ve cut her out of the pic, naturally!)
The only issue is that her two male dogs didn’t take kindly to Adam when he arrived, so she’s going to see how that works out. She’s hopeful it’ll be okay, because they were like that with each other at first and are fine now. But if there is a problem, I told her I’d take him back.
Any way, Danny is happy again! But I was miserable last night, really missed the little fella, but I’m thrilled he’s found a loving home. I said to the woman that it was like divine intervention that she walked in at that moment. A fella was due to call to my house to fix something so I thought I wouldn’t get to the Vets until later in the day, but then he called to say he couldn’t make it until today. If he hadn’t canceled, I wouldn’t have met that woman. “It was meant to be,” she said. :-)
What a beautiful story Chips! It went well with my cup of coffee this morning.
I hope Adam will find his forever home soon. Maybe this could be the one. It sounds like the woman has a kind spirit and because of you, Adam was able to go to her without fear.
We should make this into a Christmas movie and put it on YouTube!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this story!! In my mind, not so much ‘like Divine Intervention’ it WAS/IS Divine Intervention. Just the way my little kitty Beatrix came into my life last Thanksgiving - no way MP was looking for a kitty, and there she was, and here she is beside me, resting happily. A perfect transition from being abandoned and living outside for 8 years, now she has a home. She is just fine with it! _^..^_ <3
you would have rose to the challenge Chips and so would have Danny :) but I understand your dilemma completely!
Talk about divine intervention: Many years ago, when my kids were very young, I worked for child protective services.. I also had a dog and few cats… one morning while walking out to my car to go to daycare and work… I found 12 TWELVE puppies underneath my car. True story. I hurried up and put them all in my backyard. Dropped my kids off and went to work. While trying to figure out what to do, I was lamenting to fellow co-workers about the pups and omg who to call; etc., well WELL.. my friend and co-worker immediately tells me that one of her foster mothers had her 12 puppies get loose just that morning… so what were the odds??? Sure enough she lived several blocks from my house.. and was quite happy to come and get her pups :):) It can be a very small world sometimes.
omg, I would have lost my mind! It was a lucky day, just like you had… so very glad ‘Adam’ has a new home and you & Danny get to keep your twosome going strong.
Chips! What wonderful news! That was definitely meant to be. I understand you missing him a bit, but that will get better in a few days. He is soooo lucky that you found him and helped guide him to his new family. And I’m glad to hear you and his new mom left the possibility of returning him if a (loving) former owner were found. Any chance he and Danny could have some walks/play dates in the future? They might learn to be friends in a neutral setting :-)
Thanks a million MadameSoph, I am indescribably happy he has a loving home! It would be brilliant if Danny and Adam could meet up, but I fear Danny will NEVER forgive him for pooing in his garden!
Mr. 57 had found a large American Eskimo dog once and brought him home. He was not the dog for us, although he was working it out with the others. We put him in the basement, Calliope would walk past the basement door and go “grrrr” and continue walking. Until we had him checked for worms, fleas, etc. we couldn’t have him upstairs.
Then, we had a huge rainstorm and the basement started to flood. There he was on the landing, in terror. Well, fleas or not, he was coming upstairs. It took Calliope and Pilgrim and “Snowball” about 10 minutes to work it out.
That being said, he was too big a dog for us and needed the kind of exercise that we weren’t prepared to provide. I found a beautiful person online who rescued Eskies, and she found him a home. Even though he wasn’t right for us, when Mr. 57 took him to her (a 90-mile drive), I cried and cried and cried.
She found him a home, and I just heard last year that he had lived the most wonderful life on a farm with two other Eskies. “Teddy Snowball” died 14 years after we found him, and his owners contacted me to tell me how grateful they were that we had all found each other.
Chips, when we decided to get a dog when our first dog, Rufus, was “up there” in years, the vet told us to get a puppy, because the pecking order is always clear. Calliope was the only dog we ever bought from a pet store, but it was a facility where the mentally disadvantaged worked and cared for the dogs. We knew the manager, and all of the dogs came from individual breeders in the area. She was the only dog Mr. 57 and I raised from a baby.
That being said, we have brought in males with males, females, whatever - it’s always worked out. Your heart tells you what’s right.
I’m so happy for Adam and his new family. Keep us posted.
What a gorgeous story 57, and what a beautiful life you helped create for Teddy Snowball! I’m still howling at “Calliope would walk past the basement door and go “grrrr” and continue walking”
I only had ‘Adam’ for 24 hours, so I can’t believe how attached I got to him in that time, I suppose it was his condition and his loveliness that melted my heart.
I definitely know now that if I’m ever to get a second dog the pecking order, as you said, is the key. I just had a strong feeling that Danny and Adam would never click, too close in age (the vet thought he was about 3 or 4), and too male! I think I would have to get a female puppy (I can never use the B word!), or at least one that isn’t more than two or three. Danny’s two best doggy pals are ladies, the Husky completely bosses him and he’s cool with that, never challenges her, so there’s complete peace between them. He’s never actually fought with boy dogs, but as he gets older he’s a bit more aggressive towards them, hair up on his back, a bit of growling and in Adam’s case, barking. I’m not sure how he’d be with a male puppy, but I don’t think I’d even take the chance, a girl it would have to be!
We adopted Nickelby 6 months before my beloved Pilgrim died of insulinoma. Pilgrim was my boy completely. We had lost our dear Harvey 6 months earlier. When we brought Nickelby into the house, Pilgrim said, “Thank God I’m not the only dog.” Didn’t think he even noticed!
When Nickelby saw Pilgrim have a seizure, he ran to get me. And from that moment on, he watched Pilgrim like a hawk and protected him, to the point that I would let myself sleep because I knew Nickelby would come get me.
For some reason, I started looking for another dog only 3 months after losing Pilgrim, even though my heart was completely raw. Enter Kasper. Kasper and Nickelby were at odds from Day One. In retrospect, if I had waited my usual 6 months to a year, Nickelby never would have let another dog in the house.
But I have good news for you: When we adopted Pearl, all 8 pounds of her, the house immediately went into balance. Who knew we needed three dogs?!?!
So that’s what you might have to look forward to. I’ll be blunt: I cannot be without a dog in my life, so we always have two or three. And as I said earlier, I follow my heart and my gut and we have had the most amazing dogs in our family. You did a great thing, Chips.
{{Chips}}, he’s so cute, I understand why you missed him. It’s wonderful, that you found this women to take in Adam. I hope it works out with the other dogs and she can keep him. Whatever happens, you probably have made another friend.
Lovely boy and lovely story. How I miss having a dog. He reminds me so much of my first dog. I would love to have a dog like that. Or like anything, really. I can easily believe you miss him after having him 3 days. I miss him after having seen his picture twice!
In 08, during the DNC meeting where the party bosses got together to decide if senator Obama was worthy…
Afterwards, when then senator Obama was approved by the party bosses, a lady got on tv & said God D*mn the democrats.
I wonder if that lady is a sanders supporter?
Good morning meta :-)
It will be good to see PBO with Ellen again. The studio in Burbank will be jammed packed with the lines down and around the block to get a seat.
Local news people went nuts over how cool President Obama was with the Warriors yesterday. The sports anchors were giddy. Just another way he disarms and reaches people.
Ah, didn’t even notice the dates at the links, looks like the Washington Post picked it up from the BBC (http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-35496480) whose report seems to be based on an interview she did with their World Service.

Will never understand why someone with an abusive partner keeps having children - there is NO problem getting birth control in Australia. She will be getting large amounts of government assistance - I don’t see the need to be living off the story.

1st!
Congrats!
Don!
Congrats Don on your first place.
Congrats, Don! :-D
Congrats on first Don.
Congrats Don on First :-)
It’s been a while since you’ve made it up there. The women conspired to keep you out, eh? :D
Chips, so what happened with the puppy at the vets? Did they find a chip in him?
Don’t leave us hanging…
Moooooooooorning GGail! I typed this epic story to update the doggy’s story, I hope you have five hours free :-)

Good Morning BFF. You and this lady are such a blessing. Wishing the best to you all.
Ah {{JER}}, thank you - forever more I will regard that woman as an angel!!!
LOVE this story!!!!!!!! Thanks for the update. I’ve even included my husband in this “sage.” :) Now I can share this good news with him.
:-) A Pleasure, tnmtngirl! Danny’s greatest fear is that the final chapter will be Adam coming to live with him!
Wow, what a perfect ending. He’s so cute!
I enjoy Adam’s story. Glad to know that he is in a good home.
Thanks No Child, thrilled too that he’s starting a new and hopefully happy life.

Yeah, I might hold a grudge if I were he :-)
What a great story. So happy it’s working out for this doggie who has some sweet angels in his corner now.
Ah, thank you Edwina, I have a feeling Adam is now living a life of loving luxury!! :-)

I’ve been so stupid today sjterrid, kept half-hoping she’d text me and ask me to take Adam back :-)
I’m really struggling with the name ‘Adam’, by the way!!!
Lovely boy and lovely story. How I miss having a dog. He reminds me so much of my first dog. I would love to have a dog like that. Or like anything, really. I can easily believe you miss him after having him 3 days. I miss him after having seen his picture twice!
I only had him for 24 hours Mary, but fell in love in that time. Jeez, I never fell in love with a human man that quick!! :-)
There are reasons for that. Good reasons. :D
In 08, during the DNC meeting where the party bosses got together to decide if senator Obama was worthy…

While in Cali next week, POTUS is going to do a guest appearance on Ellen’s show, his first sine 2007.
Ah brilliant, LOVE his chats (and dancing) with Ellen!
And she loves him back!
Good morning meta :-)
It will be good to see PBO with Ellen again. The studio in Burbank will be jammed packed with the lines down and around the block to get a seat.
Good morning, GGail! Hope you have a pleasant Friday and a great weekend.
People will definitely be lining up for POTUS. He’s not likely to appear again before leaving office.
Thanks meta and you too <3 We in Cali will have beautiful weather this whole weekend!!
I know! It’s gorgeous here right now. Those who were worried about rain for the Super Bowl needn’t. Great weather report for the weekend.
And the rest is history!
Brilliant, energy, vision, transformational. Gorgeous. What karma that he is here now.
BLESSED!
Local news people went nuts over how cool President Obama was with the Warriors yesterday. The sports anchors were giddy. Just another way he disarms and reaches people.
Be sure to stay to the end:
Nice! I hope this airs during the SB!
This is great, Meta! Thanks for sharing.
Excellent!
This is when POTUS go to California for a fundraiser and he go stay for the week-end, play alittle golf and FLOTUS and the girls go skiing.
And the right wing idiots have a dam fit about the Obamas wasting taxpayers money with their vacations.
Yes! let’s tweet & facebook this all over America
Believe I just heard the President will be giving a speech on the economy … will be covered on CNN, next.
I think. This may be old news to ya’ll. Good mornin’!
12:30 PM EST: President Obama Delivers a Statement on the Economy
Talk about click bait - and the story is months old - the guy was jailed December 2015, the story started the previous February.
Ah, didn’t even notice the dates at the links, looks like the Washington Post picked it up from the BBC (http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-35496480) whose report seems to be based on an interview she did with their World Service.
Few others picked it up also. Think I was slightly turned off by the number of children. Will never understand why someone with an abusive partner keeps having children - there is NO problem getting birth control in Australia. She will be getting large amounts of government assistance - I don’t see the need to be living off the story.
Heads up
