Found the attached article which I found interesting as I and others on TOD expresses similar reactions to Ted Cruz’s face.

    Interesting read from Psychology Today

Why Ted Cruz’s Facial Expression Makes Me Uneasy
What message are the Senator’s atypical facial gestures sending?

The CNN talking head added a “but” after she related a one-liner on what the President said. Sorry I missed it - just happened to hit MUTE after the but. But nothing, idiotic talking head. Begone!

I saw a quote the other day that said, “Great spirits have always faced violent opposition from mediocre minds.”

President Obama is a great spirit. The opposition he faces every day — from Republicans/Tea Party, the media, even from those in the Democratic Party — represent the mediocre minds. PBO’s spirit rises above the mediocrity, which is why he is a great leader… one who inspires… one who is a great example… one who deserves respect.

We, in the village know what a rare jewel we have. Even those who live afar recognize the value of our President. Others will come to appreciate him after he has moved on; THEN they will have to admit…be it grudgingly, that our 44th President is an exceptional, extraordinary man.

As seen in some of the coverage about the Feb. 12 visit to Cuba: ” … the Vatican announced today that Pope Francis will meet with Russian Patriarch Kirill in Cuba, in a step towards healing the 1,000-year-old rift between East and West schism. This is an immense step forward … ”

I’m for anything that brings people together, across the globe, to heal rifts, especially the 1,000-year-old kind! <3

      February 5, 2025 at 2:29 pm

JO’B, it’s hard to imagine what could be so important that you could hold on to a “rift’ for 1000 years. One thousand years ago, the western world was deep into the dark ages and life was short and brutal. Surely we’ve evolved enough by now to set aside whatever differences seemed so important in those ancient days. It’s great that Pope Francis is making this outreach, but, my goodness, what took so long?!?!

      • 34 jacquelineoboomer
        February 5, 2025 at 2:38 pm

If we want another example, we might ask why the “rift” of Protestants with Catholics has gone on so long! My only answer is that we are all human, and we know how to hold onto beliefs! And rifts! To me - if one is a believer, and many aren’t and I respect that - it’s the same God, and our basic needs are the same. We just articulate all of it differently, because of the aforementioned human part. I’m for any push that brings us into the 21st Century, whatever that means - it differs among humans, too! :)

I spoke to the Bureau of Labor Statistics this morning asking if they have the number of jobs that been added to the Healthcare Industry since the passage of ObamaCare.

They told me to contact the Office of Occupational Statistics for that info. He said if they don’t have it already, they will be able to pull it from their data base for me.

I just emailed them the request. They say I should get confirmation of the request within 2 work days as to whether they will do it.

I am sick of the lies that ObamaCare is a jobs killer. Crossing my fingers that I get a good answer

I started donating to her campaign, after Sander’s didn’t stop whining about Iowa and complained about the coin toss, even though it had nothing to do with the delegates for the National Election. It was about county delegates, and he won 7 coin flips, that no one mentions. Plus those were the rules in place, at the time.

If Bernie Sanders can’t acknowledge the achievements of the President under whose party banner he is running, then he is unfit to be that party’s candidate. Basic loyalty, is the least we should expect from him.

Wife crashes her own funeral, horrifying her husband, who had paid to have her killed
    February 5 at 3:31 AM

Noela Rukundo describes her husband’s reaction when she appeared at her own funeral, after he hired a team of hitmen to kill her. Her husband, Balenga Kalala, is serving nine years in prison for incitement to murder. (Deirdra O’Regan/The Washington Post)

Noela Rukundo sat in a car outside her home, watching as the last few mourners filed out. They were leaving a funeral — her funeral.

Finally, she spotted the man she’d been waiting for. She stepped out of her car, and her husband put his hands on his head in horror.

“Is it my eyes?” she recalled him saying. “Is it a ghost?”

“Surprise! I’m still alive!” she replied.

Far from being elated, the man looked terrified. Five days earlier, he had ordered a team of hit men to kill Rukundo, his partner of 10 years. And they did — well, they told him they did. They even got him to pay an extra few thousand dollars for carrying out the crime.

Chips, How is your new house guest? I have been off line for a bit. So haven’t caught up yet. A friend of mine passed away yesterday. We found her in her apartment on the floor beside her bed. I still can’t get my head around it. Talked with her youngest son today and told him I would help anyway I can. She is the lady that took care of my Megan and me when I was in and out of the hospital in 2012 with my heart problems and surgery and took care of me when I had pneumonia last winter. We took care of each others animals when we were out of town. This had really hit everybody in the building hard. She was a retired RN and the go to for almost everyone in out building. We are waiting for her sons to get here from Wisconsin and one from Alaska. Her youngest son was at her place for supper the night she passed and is just beside himself. I really hurt for the boys and her grand children. That’s all. BBL.

I agree Bobfr. When you think about the rhetoric of those who have labeled themselves Progressives, but yet have a problem with the *progress* that has been made by this President, you know it comes down to the *WHO* [i.e., AA President].

What happened? Did they think it was progressive enough to just elect a Black president? Was he not supposed to actually get something done, or was it that he was supposed to get his marching orders from them? The resentment stinks.

This is a very telling moment. I think Bernie Sanders simply diminishes the President because that is how he sees the world. Everyone on the cynical Left who has wanted to erase the President’s accomplishments these seven years is drawn to Bernie Sanders. I wonder if the Obama supporters that have decided to support Sanders will be done with the candidate soon.

To all you Bernie supporters tell me how is Bernie going to pass the stuff he is talking about when he has to deal with Republicans like President Obama have dealt with for the last seven years. I just want one Bernie supporter to answer that question. Bernie is doing alot of good talking that they want to hear, but when is reality going to set in?

      • 114 maryl1
        February 5, 2025 at 7:00 pm

bella, the deep answer to that is “Bernie” is white and when the white guy gets in there the universe will be back to normal. I don’t think they realize that this is what underlies their support for him, but I don’t see anything else that explains it.

        • 115 99ts
          February 5, 2025 at 9:09 pm

GOPers cannot believe a black guy defeated them. John McCain thought he had it made when a black man & a white woman were vying to be his opponent. He obviously had similar ideas to Trump when selecting his running mate - never realising that just gave the democrats and even larger majority.

      • 118 nospin
        February 5, 2025 at 9:28 pm

bella2758 - for some (including me) it isn’t that deep. I would have loved to give my vote to O’Malley after VP Biden made the decision ot to run but that isn’t an option. I expect absolutely nothing from Bernie Sanders but he isn’t HRC so that accounts for something. I just do not want another Clinton in the WH. The woman has no integrity and no, having a vagina isn’t a qualifier to being POTUS. She has not earned my vote and I am not just going to fall off the cliff like a lemming just because she was promised a coronation. Lots of the stuff Bernie is saying is the same thing HRC said to include the stuff on TPP. She however has no problem changing her mind based on whichever way the political wind is blowing and will say anything to get a vote.

We are in this pickle because of DWS and the DNC. This was totally self inflicted. There were plenty of qualified people in the Democratic party and now we are stuck up shit’s creek with no toilet paper. I still have no idea of how after 7+ years of a successful Presidency we got here. Oh well, there is always 2020.

        just sayin’

These people are evil - yet those who vote for them have NO idea. Where is the media screaming about a congress that does not respect the constitutional administration, voted for my a majority of the American People.

I have NEVER heard of another democratically elected parliament/congress acting in this manner. Could call them racist - but this is so much worse - just evil.

The media want a Trump-Sanders race in the fall. And the GOP are drooling at the thought of a 75 year old Marxist to run against, with a history of praising Castro, the Sandinistas and other communist regimes, who kept the flag of the Soviet Union in his office as mayor. It’s become clearer to me that part of his appeal is that he boils down all our problems to “class struggle”, ignoring race and all the other complexities and inequalities gender, and so on. It’s his Marxist ideology and Bernie is an ideologue through and through. It’s “us vs. the billionaires” and if we only can take over and tax the billionaires to death and get their money out of politics then “the people” would automatically vote in pure socialism. Our system and the Dem Party operates on the premise that we are a diverse, pluralistic society where incremental changes are worked out among the various groups and interests that make up the social order. Bernie’s absolutist vision seems so simple and so appealing, and it is so fictional. Once the Ads start running about his Marxist baggage and history, the GOP would shred him to pieces and usher in a new era of undoing every good thing that has happened under Democratic rule since the New Deal and FDR. Actually, without using the term “Marxist” Greg Sargent describes in today’s blog much of what I am describing here in the difference between Hillary and Bernie. I think the party leadership are on to Bernie and realize the disaster he could bring to this country and to every Dem candidate running in the fall. So I hope someone has a good plan on what to do with this. It may be that people of color may save this country and the Dem. Party from total destruction, by keeping a Marxist from the nomination and continuing the Obama legacy. Too many white “progressives” are drinking the koolaid.

The action by the new executive director of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission is being roundly criticized by voting rights activists, who say the “secretive move” will create additional barriers for potential voters, and one of the agency’s own commissioners, who says it contradicts policy and precedent.

Under the new rule, any resident in those states who registers to vote using the federal form must show citizenship documentation — such as a birth certificate, naturalization papers or passport. In other states, no such documentation is needed to register; voters need only sign a sworn statement.

    The changes took effect immediately…
