I can’t sleep, Nathkatun! I’m so nervous and soooo want Cam Newton to win in the face of all the haters. I know Peyton winning would be a wonderful storybook ending to an incredible career (keep In mind he played 13 years in my home town of Indianapolis) but he has already won a SuperBowl (will appear in his 4th) and secondly it isn’t going to affect his sterling legacy. Cam leading the Panthers to a win would mean so much more and be incredibly relevant socially, personally, and in ways that won’t be fully understood until it happens. I have my fingers crossed and will take all the well wishers I can get!

HF, the problem I have with MM is that he lives in Michigan and pretend to be an activist. He should have been aware of this travesty before Rachel started talking about it nationally. Now he is jumping on the bandwagon making a 7 day movie just to get attention.

‘Thanks to a combination of good doctors, decent hospital food and 2nd-term Obamacare, I’m doing much better,’ he wrote on Facebook. //

Makes it more dramatic to be in “intensive care”. Minimal visitors allowed - making a video - in his dreams.
He really doesn’t have to do this - Flint is the story - all he has to do is tell that story.

“Several U.S. cities and states are currently considering laws to regulate the small, personal-use quadcopters we’ve all agreed to call “drones,” but once those laws are in place, how do you stop drone pilots who violate them? The Dutch National Police are way ahead of us on that one: They’ve been training eagles to take down unruly drones. A video hit YouTube Monday showing an eagle trained by Dutch police and the Hague-based raptor-training firm Guard From Above as it snatches a drone from midair without suffering any damage from its spinning props. At the IEEE’s Spectrum blog, Evan Ackerman raised some concerns Monday about the safety risks of using birds as anti-drone weapons, especially in the U.S., where some eagle species are legally protected….continued”

“We’ve seen little flying drones carrying cameras and guns, shooting gorgeous video and crashing the White House lawn. But now they’re carrying spools of rope, and they’re on a mission to build. For the first time, a small flying squadron of drones has built a structure stable enough to stand on. A team of scientists at the architecture and design university ETH Zurich programmed the flying team of self-piloting drones as part of a program to use drones for construction projects. The copters start out by scanning the existing structure — the scaffolding on either side of the room was set up by human hands, and the team manually adjusted the robots’ code to account for the spacing.

“In order to be able to design tensile structures that are buildable with flying robots, a series of computational tools have been developed, specifically addressing the characteristics of the building method,” Federico Augugliaro, one of the researchers who built the drone system, wrote for the release of the video. “The design tools allow to simulate, sequence, and evaluate the structure before building.” Once they have their tasks, the copters automatically get to work maneuvering, weaving and knotting the rope bridge together using 300 feet of rope, fed to the drones via small spools on their back. As they slice through the air, fastening and threading the rope, no human interferes with their work once. Once the bridge was complete, the bridge was strong enough to carry the research team safely across. This kind of structure could be built at any height, and could be useful for emergency situations or at construction sites, where drones are already making their way into everyday use for surveying purposes….continued”

“If one thing could make Mission Impossible stunts even cooler, it’s robotic landing gear. DARPA conducted an experimental demonstration with a chopper containing four insect-like legs that make landing on uneven and moving surfaces easier and more stable. The articulated, jointed legs can fold up next to the helicopter’s fuselage while in flight. During landing, the legs use force-sensitive contact sensors to determine the right angle to land in real time. In other words, it’s basically a flying metal spider.

The experimental demonstration showed that one of the potential benefits included “landing and take-off on sloping terrain of up to 20 degrees, more than twice current limits,” according to a news piece from DARPA. Other bonuses include reduced risk of damage during hard landings and the ability to land on ships in violent sea states.”

By making “Anyone But Trump and Cruz” an organizing principle, has the GOP picked a strategy that solves its short- term problems at the expense of longer-term ones?

In one crucial sense, Rubio is right. He has landed near the sweet spot between Cruz-like extremism, Trump-like nativism, and Jeb Bush’s more principled rejection of both factions of the right. But to get there, he’s attached himself to policy proposals that are different in kind, and more extreme, than those of recent Republican nominees. Now Rubio threatens to smuggle them into the general election undetected by a press corps that has been fixated on Trump.

    • 52 swbluega
      February 6, 2025 at 12:04 pm

Over the past several months, Rubio has:

      * Introduced a tax plan that literally zeroes out investment and inheritance taxes (in addition to reducing the income-tax burden of top earners by more than 10 percent).

      * Recklessly suggested ethnically profiling Muslims through their mosques, community centers, businesses and web.

      * Professed, in what was possibly a moment of debate-stage panic, the view that abortion should be outlawed even in cases of rape, incest, or risk to the life of the mother.

      * Denied the fact that “human activity is causing these dramatic changes to our climate the way these scientists are portraying it.”

      * Promised to nominate Supreme Court justices who would rescind the constitutional right to same-sex marriage.

      * Suggested having lots of money is the key to happiness.

      * Disowned his most important legislative accomplishment.

      * Called for sending ground troops into Syria.

This kind of strategic positioning … would come to define Rubio in a race against a Democrat.

If HRC is going to lose by 10+% this is exactly what I would do! Just surprised a prominent Newspaper is explicitly calling for this :D :D :D

“Say you’re one of the thousands of New Hampshire voters who want Hillary Clinton to be the next president. You could do the straightforward thing and cast your ballot for Clinton in next week’s primary. But if you’re a registered independent, you have a better option: Infiltrate enemy lines. Vote in the Republican primary. Hand victory to Donald Trump. Welcome to Operation Chaos 2.0.

Like most states, New Hampshire doesn’t restrict GOP primaries to registered Republicans. The 43 percent of Granite State voters who aren’t registered with a specific party can choose which primary to participate in on Tuesday. While Bernie Sanders leads in polls for the Democratic contest in New Hampshire, nationally, Clinton maintains a seemingly insurmountable advantage in polls and endorsements; your vote as a New Hampshire resident won’t change that. But New Hampshirites of either party can make a difference in the Republican race. The state is poised to decide whether a renegade like Trump is a serious threat to win the nomination or whether GOP voters will wise up and support someone more electable. For unaffiliated but left-leaning voters, this is a golden opportunity to wreak havoc by helping the Republican nightmare scenario come true.”

As much as I despise the GOP, I’d never be able to vote for Trump for anything!!!

For the future of Ukraine, a future that is a participatory democracy and sustainable government, this could not be more important ….

“Highlights from the first interview with Aivaras Abromavicius, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine after his scandal resignation announcement, conducted February 5, 2025 by Natalia Nepriakhina for RBK-Ukraine.

The resignation on February 3, 2025 of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Aivaras Abromavicius and his strident accusations against Ihor Kononenko, an MP and business partner of Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko have not left the front pages of the media.

Every day new angles of the scandal are being brought up. Abromavicius has been approached by everyone, including the President, and the IMF, to withdraw his resignation.

Under what conditions and with what Prime Minister would Abromavicius agree to work; his conversation with President Poroshenko; the Kononenko/NABU affair; his own political future.”
