What is amazing during this election is how GOP candidates are using Dem talking points against each other and Dem candidate (notice no ‘s’) is using GOP talking points against his opponent. I am not surprised at the “disappointeds”. They’ve been dismissing all progress in a fever of ideology like their idols Snowden and Greenwald. Its the GOP that has me blinking in disbelief. Since the time of Reagan’s propaganda it was absolute heresy to not go along with whatever the talking points of the day were that got distributed. GOP never ever went after each other. Voters lined up in allegiance to whoever was the annointed one. Dems were the cats unable to be herded. Now we have Berniebros behaving like Taliban with their purity fixations and demonization of anyone that doesn’t rate, getting more violating in their words toward the other candidate as time goes on. We at the same time have Trump initiated Rachel Maddow like criticisms being fired off at GOP debates. The robo stuff on Rubio is right off the left leaning blogs.

Greenwald and Snowden are not Democrats. And that says a lot about the people who worship them….

Their egos won’t let them believe that they aren’t deserving of the office of POTUS. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be 10 (incld Fiorina and Gilmore) still in the race.

Their desperation to appease their egos has them contradicting themselves from one moment to the next…they probably don’t believe half of what they say. Their purpose is to play on the emotions and baser instincts of those who are easy to manipulate and agitate.

Honestly though, Christie didn’t have a lot of room to talk. In previous debates, his answers always included a noun, a verb, and Hillary Clinton.

Only reason it probably didn’t this time was that he was so focused on attacking Rubio.

        February 7, 2025 at 8:41 am

The only thought he puts into what he says is to remember his #25secondspeeches and deciding which one to use.

He shows that he can’t think on his feet. Can you imagine if it were a one-on-one debate like the one HRC and BS had last week? He really would have self destructed then!

          February 7, 2025 at 8:58 am

Yep, Sw, and it does show how desperate the GOP is to think Rubio is their savior. His third place Iowa win was supposed to be his great launching pad to the presidency. Looks like the launch just fizzled out.

Hi, Chips. Have been under the weather the last few days, so must have missed the update on your rescue dog. How’s it going?

      • February 7, 2025 at 7:55 am

Ah Jackie, sorry to hear that, hope you’re doing better today??

I gave an epically long update the other day, here it is!

A VERY long story, but I did all the usual to try and find his owner, contacted lots of places, put his photo on lost dog websites, etc. There was no sign of anyone looking for him and, as I feared, when I took him to the vet he wasn’t chipped.

I really, really wanted to keep him, but he and Danny were *very* aggressive towards each other, and while I wondered if they might get used to each other, the vet worried that they wouldn’t – she figured Danny was too used to being the only dog in the house and that the arrival of another male adult wouldn’t go down too well.

So while I was standing there agonising over what to do, in walks a woman.

The Vet knew her well, she’s a regular there with her own three dogs and often brings in dogs she rescues and then re-homes.

So, she asked about my fella’s story and while we were chatting he went up to her and gave her his paw. She nearly dissolved – the vet and myself nearly did too, it was like a scene from Love Story :-)

It was just amazing how they bonded. I don’t even want to think about what has happened him, he’s terrified, but you could see he just had complete trust in her – and she was so loving and kind to him.

So, next thing she says: ‘I’m taking him home!’

At this point I’m like, ‘what the hell am I going to do?’

When she went out to take a phone call, I asked the Vet about her, and she said the dog literally could not go to a better home, that her three dogs are all rescues that had been treated badly and that now they’re the happiest, most secure dogs on earth.

But then I wondered what we’d do if the owner came forward. The Vet said that quite honestly she’d prefer if the dog wasn’t returned to its owner, it obviously had not been treated well – and it looked like the owner was making no effort to find it. The fact that the dog wasn’t chipped didn’t say much for the owner either.

When the woman came back in we talked about it, and she said if the owner came forward she would return the dog if s/he had a good explanation for why it’s so terrified – e.g. if it had been missing for a long time and there’s proof they’d made an effort to find it.

So, she looked at the dog and said, ‘you’re coming home with me, Adam!’

        Adam?

She has a little girl dog called Eve!!

Then another woman came in the door with a small dog and Adam started wagging his tail and playing with it, which made his new owner reckon he’d adore Eve!

So, we swapped numbers and she took him home.

And last night she texted me photos of him looking like he’d lived there all his life. One of them was a selfie with her, he’s almost unrecognisable from the dog I found, he just looks happy! (I’ve cut her out of the pic, naturally!)

The only issue is that her two male dogs didn’t take kindly to Adam when he arrived, so she’s going to see how that works out. She’s hopeful it’ll be okay, because they were like that with each other at first and are fine now. But if there is a problem, I told her I’d take him back.

Any way, Danny is happy again! But I was miserable last night, really missed the little fella, but I’m thrilled he’s found a loving home. I said to the woman that it was like divine intervention that she walked in at that moment. A fella was due to call to my house to fix something so I thought I wouldn’t get to the Vets until later in the day, but then he called to say he couldn’t make it until today. If he hadn’t canceled, I wouldn’t have met that woman. “It was meant to be,” she said. :-)

Wow, Chips, that’s an amazing story and with such a happy ending-at least for Adam. Sorry you didn’t get to keep him and that Danny couldn’t adjust, but, as you say, it seems as if divine intervention has allowed the little guy to find a happy home. Hope the other male dogs settle down and accept him. So does the vet’s comment about “adult male dogs” open the door to your acquiring a female? Or a puppy?

By the way, thanks for taking the time to repost the update. I felt sure I had missed something.

          • February 7, 2025 at 8:18 am

The funniest thing, Jackie, is that both my sister and brother now say they’ll take Adam if he is returned - and I think I’d want him too, despite Danny’s rage …. so he could end up with a choice of homes!

Still undecided about the second dog idea, I think I’ll put it on the backburner for now, but will think about it again.

Adam is most fortunate, as are all of us, to have you in our lives, Chips!!!!!

              Good morning ….

              And, Good morning TOD!

              February 7, 2025 at 8:53 am

Yes, Chipsticks, “Adam” was fortunate that you found him. And it’s good that there are options for a permanent home.

I’ve heard that older dogs do better when a second, younger dog or puppy is brought into the fold. But the dog has to do the “selecting”. The companionship and the youthfulness of the younger dog helps the older dog to function and be more active. So perhaps that is something to consider when Danny gets older.

              • February 7, 2025 at 8:59 am

I was thinking exactly that way swbluega, especially because a friend of mine, whose dog is about six, just got a puppy - and she’s brought new life to the existing dog!

He was saying to me that the mistake I made was introducing Danny and Adam in Danny’s garden, that I should have done it somewhere else so Danny wouldn’t have been freaked by an unfamiliar ‘intruder’ in his kingdom. Which makes perfect sense. But I still have my doubts that they’d ever have accepted each other, I think the younger dog is the right idea, preferably female - that might be the plan for some time in the future.

                • 35 swbluega
                  February 7, 2025 at 9:19 am

“mistake I made was introducing Danny and Adam in Danny’s garden.”

That makes sense. We live in a cul-de-sac and my dog thinks her territory extends beyond our yard and includes the entire cul-de-sac.

                • 37 jackiegrumbacher
                  February 7, 2025 at 9:33 am

Chips, Sw made the point about the older dog “selecting” the new one. When my friend wanted a second dog, she brought her older female dog to the rescue shelter with her and walked her slowly among all the dogs that were there. There was only one dog that her older dog went up to and connected with. That decided my friend and when she brought that dog (also female) home, the older dog felt pleased that SHE had made the selection and the two of them became fast friends until the day the older dog died.

                  • February 7, 2025 at 9:58 am

Ah, lovely story Jackie. That’s how it worked with my pal who got a second dog recently, he brought his dog to the rescue place and it was introduced to a few dogs - the one it was most relaxed with is the one that went home with them. I couldn’t do it though, it would tear my heart apart leaving any of them behind - I’d probably end up bringing 36 home :-)

Small Government to those GOP clowns means as long as government is for them and their kind, the rich, it is just find. When it’s trying to help the poor, it’s to big. By the way if Gov. Snyder had nothing to hide why didn’t he show up in D.C.?If Hillary hadn’t showed up for that GOP Benghazi witch hunt, imagine what the GOP would have say.

Maybe the next Democratic debate being held in Flint will help to shame Snyder to do what he should do, though I suspect he will continue to be the coward that he is and throw blame as long as he is able.

Others have gone to jail for less. He, and the GOP legislature who made it possible for local governments to be seized, should be subject to REAL punishment.

On Friday, Liberty House executive director Keith Howard received a call from a Trump campaign staffer, who conveyed that Trump would like to publicly present them with a six-figure check at a Londonderry rally on Monday, right before the Granite State primary.

Liberty House is a scrappy veterans group in New Hampshire, with a small, $300,000 annual budget—one of the 22 organizations chosen to benefit from Trump’s multimillion-dollar fundraiser for vets.

The former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic presidential candidate said she would look into that if the standard was applied to everyone else.

“Let everybody who’s ever given a speech to any private group release all the speeches at the same time,” Clinton shot back quickly.

“I don’t mind being the subject in Republican debates, the subject in the Democratic primary. That kind of goes with the territory. But at some point these rules need to apply to everybody and there are a bunch of folks, including my opponent who’s given speeches to groups and people on the other side who’s given speeches to groups. If this is going to be a new standard so then it should apply to everybody and then I’ll be happy to look into it further.”

      *************************
But what Bernie Sanders does is constantly tell us is Congress is corrupt and the political system is corrupt, and he calls for a political revolution. His supporters clearly have internalized this message. And if you believe Congress is corrupt and the political system is corrupt and what we need in this country is a political revolution, why would you show any respect to the senior U.S. Senator from New Hampshire? And not only is she in the corrupt Senate, she supports the devil herself, Hillary Clinton!

Donald Trump is stoking hatred of Muslims and Latinos. Bernie Sanders is stoking hatred of members of Congress. Both forms of populism are dangerous to the future of our country.
