Good morning Ms. Chips, Danny and TOD family, I hope all is well with everyone this lovely Wednesday morning.
The greatest start of the day is when you wake-up in the morning and have all your faculties and mobility. If you don’t think so, try not waking up.
To all, I hope that you are filled with adventure, excitement, and great joy today. <3<3<3
Thank God that President Obama is still the President of The United States of America. ⭐🏆 ⭐🏆 ⭐🏆
Morning all. Congratulations on the gold, RanMan. I thought one of the most interesting comments the President made in his press conference yesterday was about the importance of knowing the names of all world leaders and understanding the history and geography of their countries. Ignorance of the world is taken as a virtue among Republican presidential candidates as if being an arrogant boor on the world stage is somehow a mark of strength. The President was telling us, in his own way, how catastrophic such ignorance would be in attaining any progress in international relations and ensuring the economic and security goals of the US. In my mind, he could not be pointing the arrow of his support more firmly at Hillary Clinton than if he had out and out shouted it. Bernie Sanders’ shallow understanding of international relations is a less obnoxious mirror of Republican know nothingness. He would be a disastrous president.
I believe the President is shaping a narrative that supports who he supports and I think that is Hillary Clinton. I go where President Obama goes and I sense his endorsement is out there just not in so many words. I trust his judgement and I know he doesn’t suffer fools or crooks so I no longer have any patience for Hillary Clinton bashing. If her policies and perspectives are not someone’s preference then so be it. That’s democracy. The heck with the demonization however. I am sure the GOP, Rove and others, think they have created a nice narrative among Democrats that she is not to be trusted. Well they can pound sand because we are not sheeple like those they have manipulated on the right.
It was Nov. 23, 1963, the night after President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. Charles Bolden was a high school senior, playing in the South Carolina state football championship game. He was mourning Kennedy’s death along with the rest of the country, but he was mourning something else as well.
“I saw my chances of going to the Naval Academy kind of evaporating,” he said in an interview with NPR’s Morning Edition, more than 50 years later.
But Bolden did make it to the Naval Academy. He went on to serve in the Marine Corps as an aviator, flying more than 100 combat missions in North and South Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia in the early 1970s. Bolden later became a NASA astronaut and traveled to orbit four times aboard the space shuttle. After his last space flight, he returned to the Marine Corps and achieved the rank of major general. Then in 2009, he was appointed the administrator of NASA, the first African-American to hold the office.
I see there was a “Feel the Bern” rally at Morehouse College last evening. The local news showed highlights. While there was a significant crowd attending, I didn’t get the impression that everyone was feeling the Bern. Many appeared to be there mainly to hear what he had to say. I saw signs and t-shirts but they seemed to be sparsely interspersed throughout the room.
What is it with Bernie seeming to feel the need to throw up a fist whenever he is at an event targeting AA’s?
Also from some of the pics I saw, the crowd was largely white, suggesting that the Sanders campaign had bused in huge numbers of supporters who were not from the area, and certainly weren’t Morehouse students.
I really can’t stand this man. I can’t bring myself to read anything about him, he tweets or anything by his followers. He is not able to run this country.

Errors in tweets are understandable (ask anyone who tweets if they’ve ever made a mistake, and I thing most everyone will say yes), but both these tweets were one-word tweets about a single subject.
Should stick to not posting anything about Trump — don’t click on anything about him — always thought he was in this for his own publicity, and am telling myself the same thing as PBO said yesterday. Trump won’t be President.
If you had not watched President Obama’s press conference yesterday, the media would lead you to believe that the only thing he said was that Trump would not be elected president.
The GOP effort to block an Obama nominee from the court isn’t about letting voters have their say, or respecting past precedent, or demonstrating strict adherence to the Constitution. In fact, it’s precisely the opposite.
This could have been a “profile in courage” moment for Sen. Grassley. This was an opportunity for our senior senator to be less of a politician and more of a statesman. It was a chance for him to be principled rather than partisan.
He could have made it clear that he favors a Senate vote on the matter — a move that still would enable Republicans to accept or reject the eventual nominee based on merit — but he chose instead to disregard his constitutional duty by rejecting a nominee who hasn’t even been named.
It’s wrong. It’s not unexpected, and it’s not a surprise, but it’s still wrong.
I just don’t get this THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE A VOICE rationale. Was Barack Obama elected by decree? I thought the American People always had their voices!
Don’t forget, aside from electing them, the GOP legislators think that the American People don’t know what they want or need. They believe they know better than we do and are saving us from ourselves.
Until Scalia died it was ALL about the constitution. Now they disagree with the constitution so its all about the American People. When they speak of abortion its all about the fetus.
Its all about the GOP’s right to rule - the court, the country and women.
The GOP is either trying the Jedi mind trick on their followers. I’m sure more than a few can be counted on to believe whatever the party line says, and they’re all in sync with this message.
The MSM could put an end to this at any time by quoting the Constitution and reminding people when the President’s term ends. The fact that they are standing back and giving this “issue” legs confirms once again that they are literally under GOP ownership.
I’ve ranted countless times about our MSM the only place busy Americans working, raising families, tending to relationships, etc. get their news — either in the form of radio while commuting (common in the LA area), TV and online peeks at CNN, TV networks), yet @CBSradionews yesterday frames PBO’s response as “defending” his SCOTUS nomination.
Drives me frigging nuts! PBO is NOT defending, he is exercising his job duty. At NO time are MSM asking GOP anti-Constitutionists to defend *their* position.
Haven’t seen much coverage of Greta’s POV (don’t have TV, don’t know what Fox News talking heads are saying):
Note: Constitution says Pres SHALL nominate…not may…hence, he must nominate and Senate can confirm or reject
“The cost of the standoff will likely run into the millions of dollars, with local and state agencies looking to the federal government - and the arrested occupiers - to shoulder the bulk of the bills.”
The state and local officials and the occupiers should own this one. Let’s not pretend that we don’t know this bullshyte could have been ended a long time ago.
That’s exactly the kind of example I was talking about. The press is creating an issue out of nothing and trying to create the perception that PBO is ‘at it again’. They’re nothing but GOP enablers.
What’s the difference in the contributions Scarborough makes in the form of free publicity for Trump (none of the other candidates gets the level/volume of air time that Trump seems to get on Morning Joe) and the contribution that Olbermann made for which he was suspended/fired?
Seems that the first commenter is missing the point that the GOP is saying “let the people be heard” as a way of saying the current President should not do his job.
Can’t wait to see the GOP once again in a huge bind caused by their hate-based obstruction.
Toons are spot on. The Nick Anderson toon about divisiveness shows the true source… and as PBO pointed out about the GOP candidates, it’s not just Trump.
When you exhibit divisive behavior towards those who are supposed to be your allies, of course you will do the same or worse to those towards whom you have exhibited hatred.

Ironic since we seem to have no problem with our information being captured and our lives being tracked via the internet, our smart phones, etc. How often do you visit a vendor web site and then see ads constantly pop up for that vendor? People talk about what they do and where they go on sites like twitter. The GPS capability on our smart phones don’t give much privacy. Yet these are features/resources we are unwilling to do without.
In listening to the longer NPR article this morning I heard the judge’s decision concerned Apple making phones that had the ability of a backdoor access for security reasons in all future phones. It did not sound like it was just this one phone in question. My statement of what I heard is not based on my taking sides as I have not decided on this issue.

“The Constitution is pretty clear about what is supposed to happen now. When there is a vacancy on the Supreme Court, the President of the United States is to nominate someone. The Senate is to consider that nomination, and either they disapprove of that nominee or that nominee is elevated to the Supreme Court.
“Historically, this has not been viewed as a question. There’s no unwritten law that says that it can only be done on off years – that’s not in the constitutional text. I’m amused when I hear people who claim to be strict interpreters of the Constitution suddenly reading into it a whole series of provisions that are not there. There is more than enough time for the Senate to consider in a thoughtful way the record of a nominee that I present and to make a decision.”
““There’s no such thing as foreign policy,” Kerry continued when talking about those who don’t care about what’s going on in the world. “Everything we do now, I mean this world is so interconnected, and everything that we do in the State Department is geared toward creating jobs, making life better for Americans, particularly for protecting us here at home… I mean we all saw San Bernardino. We know what happened in Paris. We know what the threat of Daesh is today,” Kerry said talking about the disparaging name the White House uses for ISIS. “If we don’t do our job to the best of our ability, all the time, we are letting the American people down. And I think President Obama has made it clear that the top priority of his administration is keeping America safe.”
While Kerry says keeping the peace is important he concluded that he didn’t think even the best Secretary of State could create a ceasefire between Taylor Swift and Kanye West.”
I continue to say that Barack Obama was the right person at the right time to help the US transition into the 21st century and be able to compete/operate in the international community.
Just highlights the arrogance the world has seen pre-Obama…there are those that think we live in a bubble…that we can do and say whatever we want and there are no consequences…yet we are quick to yell “human rights’, “democracy” etc. to other countries as if we are in charge. The “do as I say not as I do” has worn thin.

Rapper Killer Mike faces flak for "uterus" comment at Sanders rally https://t.co/ub7NdpAzIb pic.twitter.com/E3FwuOFenT

Rapper Killer Mike drew attention late Tuesday after saying during a rally for Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders that a “uterus doesn’t qualify you to be president.”
Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts in 2010 decried Congress for blocking judicial nominees, calling it a “persistent problem” in his year-end report of the federal judiciary.
“Each political party has found it easy to turn on a dime from decrying to defending the blocking of judicial nominations, depending on their changing political fortunes,” he wrote at the time.
Morning, TOD. Df, saw your comment and concern. Thanks. We were back home and in bed shortly before 6:00. Hubby got a phone call around 7:30 (fellow hiker) so that woke us. We both went back to sleep, but around 8:20 I had a bad cramp in my leg so I got up. He is still in bed. They gave him a BP pill before we left. Anxious for him to get up and see what his BP is this morning.
Sorta comedy of errors: the phone call at 7:30 and right after I got up, door bell rang!!!! Geez. Our pest control company doing outside service and I had to sign.
I’ll check in throughout the day. Thanks again for your care and support.
With no reproductive rights, many Latin American women could be at the mercy of the Zika virus
Now that researchers have identified a tangible link between the Zika virus and fetal brain deformation, pregnant women and those of childbearing age in the Latin American countries hardest hit by the mosquito-borne virus will have to make tough decisions about their reproductive future. Use birth control? Abstain? Abort if there’s evidence of potentially lethal birth defects?
Or at least that’s how it ought to go.
In reality, women in many Latin American countries have almost as little control over their bodies as they do the weather. They are subject to rampant sexual violence, have received little or no sex education and may have limited access to birth control. When they do get pregnant, abortion is illegal in most countries, though some have exceptions in cases of rape, fetal impairment or danger to the life of the mother. In El Salvador the strictures are particularly harsh. There are no legal abortions, and women may go to jail for the “crime” of suffering miscarriage.
Catholic leaders have said unequivocally that Zika changes nothing about the church’s stance against birth control, let alone its ban on abortion.

Women everywhere need to be IN CONTROL OF THEIR BODIES!!!

I hope the two sides can work out an agreement. We need to know what is in that iPhone.
Agreed, GGail. The continued conflict between national security and desired individual privacy.
Unless Apple cannot unlock its own phone! What’s the delay? this is for national security!

I’ll check in throughout the day. Thanks again for your care and support.
glad to see you here with the update:) Hope that today is a better day for him:)
