Hi.
FTR my mother came home from the hospital yesterday. The tests were all “okay” and she’s looking refreshed - IMO from her restful stay. From the instructions she was given going forward, I’ve inferred that they believe her brief loss of consciousness had more to do with her diabetes & use of medication than anything else. They will also be following up with a home assessment by a therapist to see how she handles the stairs.
Thanks to everyone for verbal &/ silent support - all was much appreciated!
Hi vc, I saw that your mother was in the hospital the same time mine was. I glad your mom is back home and recuperating. My mom fell out of the bath tub standing on one foot washing it while her hand and other foot was soapy. She fell head first and was in ICU for three days to make sure she did not have a stroke. She had her 2nd PT session today with three more. She uses a walker and a tub bench to sit while she takes a shower. She’s still afraid to take a shower with no one in the house so I have to come by in the evenings so she’s not afraid of falling. Once they fall at any age it can be very frightening to them. I think it will take her six months to a year to get back to her independent self if ever. Hope your mom stops self medicating and leave it to the doctors. I can see myself being like your mom one day.
Ah, Jo-jo, sorry to hear your mom also has been having medical issues. Good to hear she’s making progress though. Honestly, I shudder a bit when I see/hear of some of the choices our *older* moms make! And no, you don’t want to be like my mother - she adjusts the amount of medication prescribed and even alternates days all on her own whim!!!! Grrrrr.
My mom used to do that too. Whenever she wanted to drink alcohol she would stop taking her high blood pressure pills. My aunt used to buy the prescription medication then wouldn’t take it, when I asked why she said so she could tell her doctor she did get the medication but wouldn’t tell him she wasn’t taking it….I don’t get it.
Jo-jo, the truth is I can’t say I don’t get it because I do have some of that in me, only I just didn’t bother filling the prescriptions most of the time. The difference for me was that I wasn’t doing so with major conditions (at least, I didn’t think I was); I hate taking medications, particularly pills/tables/capsules, and I’ve told my doctor that. My mother is on several medications that she’s supposed to take daily and what she has apparently often done is take them on alternate days, without knowing that a couple of them work together. After this scare though I don’t think she’ll be doing this any more.
BP is so important. People who used to die in their 50s now can live another 30 years due to the reduction of their BP. Tis the one medication my Doctor stresses as critical to survival.
:D It’s also the only prescription that I take (regularly), and only because the doctor put me on a 24hour BP monitor once to show me the visual evidence. Which is not to say that I haven’t asked her, at least twice since, if I can’t stop taking it now that things have been under control for a while now.
My doc also told me - once your on it - tis for the rest of your life. Even with weight loss and diet changes - near impossible to come off b.p. medication. I was very unimpressed. In many instances it’s hereditary - although my mother disproved that theory but the rest of our family & my mother’s parents had the problem.
I saw that last night. Can’t recall a more fervent full-throated defense of POTUS from a “TV pundit” in like forever. I half expected fireworks to come out! It was glorious!
He does this on his radio show as well. He gets these black Bernie supporters that call in talking about how blacks are no better off than they were when PBO took office and he takes them to task with facts!!!
I don’t recall a time that the Rev. Al hasn’t supported the President during his tenure in the White House - and I am so very glad he’s still telling the truth about him!
Mike Yard was doing what so many have done when it comes to President Obama’s accomplishments…focusing on what didn’t happen and basing it on outdated “facts”. Every time Rev. Al pointed out an accomplishment or an improvement to the black community, Mike Yard came back with a “but”. What I resent most is acting as if President Obama was able to operate under the same conditions that every preceding President did…but we know that was not the case, and not giving credit for the accomplishments in spite of the obstruction is disingenuous.
WALKING IS PAINFUL MY DEAR..PROGRESSIVE SPINE DISEASE IS PROGRESSING………………PRAYING I HOLD UP TILL AFTER WE MOVE…HAVE TO GET AWAY FROM THE MOLD IN THIS HOUSE!
Oh dear Sue. So sorry to hear you’re in pain. Please take good care of yourself. Do whatever you need to ease the pain. Sending you love and warm wishes.
Calling all TOD medical experts! I’m allergic to doctors, so tend never to go near them. But, I’ve had a sore foot for six-ish months and it’s been getting sorer the last couple of weeks. It can’t be broken/fractured, I wouldn’t be able to walk on it, so give me your theories! A ligamenty thingie?
NEVER MESS WITH YOUR FEET OR IGNORE THEM…SYMPTOMS CAN BE DIABETES OR HEART…ANY NUMBER OF THINGS…ARTHRITIS….I HAVE A BAND IN MY LEFT FOOT THAT GETS TO BE PAINFUL…IS PART OF MY DISEASE…HAVE IT CHECKED PLEASE!
Is there swelling, redness, could it have been a bite? Could it be Plantar Fasciitis? One day I woke up and could barely walk then after a few steps my feet felt ok. I have flat feet and need a orthotic but have a tendency to walk barefoot at home in the house which does not help matters. Go to the Dr. Chips and find out once and for all….
OMG, you people are all so knowledgeable - I totally didn’t have to Google ‘Plantar Fasciitis’ (she lies). Doesn’t sound like that, JoJo, the pain started at the side of my foot and is now in the center, just below my toes - rather than my heel. But it started exactly as you described, really sore when I got up in the morning and then walked on it, or if I was sitting for a while, and then walked on it. And then the pain would go away as soon as I was up and about. But lately, it just keeps on hurting when I’m walking. Okay, the doctor it is! Thank you JoJo.
It probably is planters faciiatis (sp?). Go see a podiatrist. I did and he took a cast of my foot and then I came back a week later to get my orthotics that I put in each pair of shoes before I put them on. I originally waited so long to see the doctor that by the time I went to him I could barely walk, and it took almost a year for my foot to stop hurting, even with the orthotics, especially if I had to stand for any length of time. I had to ice my foot each night and try to stay off my feet as much as possible. And mine all started with a pain in my foot in the fleshy part below the toes. I thought it was a stone bruise. It’s such a simple fix, if that is what is wrong with your foot. No shots, no operation, no meds to take, etc. Go as soon as you can get an appointment.
Ha, thanks Donna - I can’t believe I am asking TOD to diagnose my dodgy foot :-) Just a little bit of swelling the last week near the toes, but nothing major. I suspect it might just be down to me repeatedly tripping over stuff in the fields when I’m out with Danny
Bruising of the foot with a broken bone is also common. Sprains can also cause bad pain, swelling, and bruising, so it is usually not possible to tell if a foot is broken or sprained just by looking at it.
lol. When my friend got it I was like damn, I thought only old people got that. So I take it back Chips. As as a young 28 year old in the prime of your life you COULD NOT have gout.
I have a close friend in his late 30s who thought he had a torn tendon or fracture or something because it would bother him on and off, mostly on. After months of wrong diagnosis he went to a doctor who told him it was gout and that all the alcohol he managed to consume wasn’t helping. :) So he’s cut back (a bit) and I’m not sure if he took any prescription drugs for it but now it only flares up when his diet is out of whack.
#CancelingPlansToHaveAGlassOfWineDuringTheConcert Confession: I don’t know a thing about gout, I just thought it was something characters in, say, Charles Dickens’ novels got. If it is gout, I will (a) cry and (b) pay you $100 for your diagnosis, Forus.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking there can’t be a broken bone in there. People can walk on feet with broken bones. Could be a stress fracture or whatever. But to echo others, see the doctor. People ignore their feet too often.
Japa! Mighty lovely to see ya! Yeah, I’m being an idiot not having it checked out, will do. The pain kind of spreads around the foot, different spots each week, so that makes me think it’s not broken/fractured, I’d guess the point of pain would be the same if that was what happened. Thank you kind sir, I will get the thing fixed!
” so that makes me think it’s not broken/fractured”. See that’s the problem. You are trying to think this through. Pain does not respond to thinking. See the damn doctor.
If it’s the bottom of the foot, worse when you first stand up, could be plantar fasciitis. If it is top of the foot or more diffuse could be arthritis. Gout typically will give you warmth, swelling, localized around a joint. Generally, a podiatrist will help you sort out the cause of the pain and how to treat it.
My foot pain related to walking on my feet all wrong over many many years. Doc sent me to the foot doctor who sorted all that out. Can’t wear high heels any more - which was good for the feet but bad for the vanity.
I would see the doctor just as a precaution, Chips. The recent increase in pain could also be from the added stress of the Newbie dog and all the associated hassles.
seriously Chips, I hate doctors too, one nearly killed me- so I tend to avoid them also… but I also know when I must go- and it truly sounds like you.must.go. So do as TOD advises and get thee to the physician asap. And hopefully its something wee and healable.

There is nothing, NOTHING, that can go wrong with that. It’s good to begin one’s exercise of one’s Second Amendment at an early age.

Oh, that’s great, vc. So glad she’s home and safe. Sending her very best wishes for continued healing and good health.

WONDERFUL TO HEAR THE NEWS ABOUT YOUR MOTHER VC…………PRAYERS FOR HER HEALING AND COMFORT FROM HERE!
So glad to hear this, dear VC - must be quite the relief to you and, of course, your mother! <3
It is JO’B. I also hope my mother learned something, as she tends to like to self-medicate.

glad everything is ok with your mom
Well, Pf, it will/should be okay IF she follows instructions. She does seem more somber and more aware, so ……
It’s a worry! <3
Thanks vc for sharing this positive update with us! Glad to hear that your mother is back home and doing well. :)

meant to say “by another tv pundit” - Rev has been a true blue POTUS supporter from day one.
