Newbie has been reunited with his owners! They arrived this morning and the minute I opened the door he went bonkers, nearly knocked them over, and then ran to their jeep and jumped in! His name is Chubs!
They had been looking everywhere for him, but because he’s from a neighboring town and not mine our searches never matched up until their niece saw one of my ads for him.
He’s a working sheepdog, so that (apparently) explains why he had no collar - the vet had said that to me, that farmers usually don’t put collars on their dogs because it could be dangerous, they could get caught in something. But, they said they’re going to get him chipped immediately. How he made it from his farm to where I found him, I’ll never know.
I was just so relieved that he was so happy to see them, he was especially thrilled to see the woman and she gave him a bunch of hugs and kisses, so that reassured me. She seemed to be kind.
Needless to say, I’m feeling all weepy, miss him already. But he’s a working dog and just seemed so bored here most of the time, I’m just happy he’s going back to the life he knows.
But if he’s happy ….. Danny’s ecstatic - he’s king of his castle again!
Good news Chipsticks! Chubs is fortunate that you are the one that found him and did not give up on him, ultimately reuniting him with his family. And good for Danny that he has his Chipsticks all to himself again. :-D
A happy ending, swbluega :-)
So happy to read this, Chips! The fact that he was a working dog ( he was a border collie, I’m pretty sure) explains so much. No offense, but he was bored spitless at your house lounging around all day and not herding sheep….that’s why he bit Danny and got into trouble! So happy he found his rightful people:) There’s no place like home:) Hope that you and Chubs can keep in touch…. Happy Day!
Did I mention that I love you for all you did for him? You did good:)
DF, if Danny wasn’t sleeping he’d reply to your comment in a rather rude fashion :-) Thank you, you lovely person.
Exactly right DF, he WAS bored spitless! When he’d come back from his walk he’d kind of pace around the garden, like he was going nuts from not having something to do. At least now he’s back to the life he knows, and he’ll be busy!
I used to have a border collie named Jack:) High energy and would herd my kids….Smart, smart dogs:)
Ha! :-) Chubs was definitely in to herding too, I think he felt it was his job to keep me and Danny organised!
Good thing Chubs wasn’t around during your furniture or home projects. :) :)
I am so pleased he was found and was missed. You are and Danny are blessed for taking in a stranger and trying to make him feel at home.
GM Chips.
What a joyous day for Chubs!
Dogs are so fiercely loyal, no wonder we love them so.
This isn’t a new video (I’ve seen before, probably here, LOL), but dogs really are happiest when they feel like they’re pleasing their master/mistress!
😍😍😍
Oh that is the very best news Chips! Yay for Chubs!! That probably explains why he was in such poor condition having traveled a ways… did they say how long he’d been missing? And best news for DannyStix too, he’ll have a better day :) What a truly excellent thing you have done~ Bravo! You saved a life and reunited a family.
So, so, so relieved Sherijr, I didn’t want to be too much of a drama queen about it (!), but I’ve been stressed out over it, especially because I knew I couldn’t keep him because of how he was with Danny. Indescribably happy! Thank you sherijr!
I understand that completely, Chips. I’m so glad it worked out for everyone.
Congratulations, you did a kind deed that you will never forget, or Chubs or his people. And you did it at some cost to yourself. Well done, and blessings on you and Danny.
Great to hear that Newbie is reunited with his folks and that Danny is ruling his roost once again. Always nice to hear a happy ending.
Thank you PKayden!
Chips, this is such good news and the perfect ending to a long and difficult struggle. Chubs was so very lucky that you found him, nurtured him and got him strong again. Everything has now worked out as it should-Chubs is happy, Danny is happy and if you ever miss having another dog, there’s always the female or puppy route. You deserve a big round of applause for your efforts. We’ve all worried this through with you and many of us feel it’s been our adventure, too. Have a great, loving day with Danny-he deserves a special treat for all he’s endured. How’s his ear today?
Ah, thank you Jackie, it’s been quite a saga! The funniest thing was when I went to collect Danny from the vet yesterday after he had his ear patched up he was hanging out with this scruffy little girl dog - she had been abandoned and the vet was looking after her. Luckily, I think, they’d already found someone to take her, otherwise I’d probably have brought her home. I really don’t think I’m ready for a second dog just yet, I’ll stick with Danny for now!
The wound on his ear looks nasty, but thankfully he hasn’t been at it, if he starts he has to wear one of those cone thingies which I think would drive him nuts. He’s on painkillers so hopefully it’ll have healed up well by the time they’re done.
Poor guy! Hope he heals up soonish!
Exceptionally good news, Chips!!! Could not be happier for Chubs, his owners, Danny and YOU!!!
WELL DONE!!!!
Thanks a million Bob, thrilled it all ended well!
This makes my day!
What an amazing ending to the saga and what an amazing person you are, Chips. Just love ya.
ohhhhhhh…What a Fantasssssstic Ending………
Oh my goodness - what a perfect ending to this story. This is the best possible outcome one could have ever hoped for! Well, Chips you deserve a medal of honor (and more) for everything you did for “Chubs” over these last several weeks. {{{{{Chips}}}}}
Well, Chubs’ owners sound eternally grateful to have their 4-legged best friend and worker back in good health, and he likewise, thrilled to be reunited with them. Meanwhile, Danny is glad to have mom and his royal space back to himself, and you Chips - weepy, thankful, relieved, emotionally drained and replenished at the same time! :) :) It’s a win-win all around!!
Glad to hear everything’s back in order.
Happy ending YAY!!!
Oh, my God, Chips! I am overjoyed!
Part of his problem, then, was being cooped up in a house and not having a “job” to do to keep his mind and body occupied. He probably could not understand why Danny wasn’t being “herded” by him.
I’ve never had a dog run away, but it is my greatest fear. I would have been a basket case, looking for my dog.
I am so, so, so, happy.
so, aliadamnewbiecharliegeorgie = Chubs?
And, you didn’t know it? tsk, tsk, tsk.
Happy for him. You otoh are gonna be miserable.
What an amazing, emotional journey this has been for you ……..sending warm and healing thoughts to you and Danny…….It sounds like Chubs will be just fine thanks to you. :)
OH WOW!! So happy to hear such a good ending to this. Chips, you’ve been an amazing keeper all this time. I hope Danny’s spirits are lifted to the sky!!
Oh thank goodness! I love a happy ending! You, Angel of Lost Dogs, deserve a proclamation from the mayor of both towns and keys to the city! Well done! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Fantastic news.
Chips - Touching story! At least you have Danny’s reassuring you with all his ecstatic ways that you did the right thing, I’m guessing! And apparently Chubs is back where he’s more comfortable, too. But sorry it was such a whirlwind for you guys!
Chips - you are a saint to have been so kind to Chubs. Danny will appreciate not being herded and nipped like a stupid sheep! Bless your heart!
That’s great news for everybody, Chipsticks!
Good Thursday, Chipsticks… TOD Family!!!
Still playing catch-up from yesterday. So hard to do with so much out there. [sigh]
Everyone, enjoy your day. :-D

So Iowa is determined to increase its child mortality rate? Are they nuts? Has the whole country gone nuts?
That’s a rhetorical question, right?
Awful truth. Can some wonderful person post this?:)

Great find DF
Thanks:)
MY PRESIDENT,,WITH NO REGRETS…AND I WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN!
All these firsts tell us that the country our President has brilliantly led for over seven years has never been worthy of his leadership.
Thanks for the link, df.
Donald Trump is a sad, sick joke who deserves to be treated with the same disrespect and contempt that he treats everyone else. There’s a site call ‘Jezebel’ that refers to him as a “talking yam” and it certainly fits. I can’t wait to see PBO and VP Biden on the campaign trail once Hillary is the nominee. Biden will have a great time skewering the yam and President Obama will slowly roast him over very hot coals.
Agreed. He’s free to jabber on now because no one pushes back on him…when he gets someone pushing back with facts and figures….toast. Sad, sick joke is right. I hope that WHCD was just a warm up for what PBO will do to him….4th qtr, baby!!
The man is basically a two year old in a bridge troll’s body.
Donald Trump has no skin. Its not thin skin, its no skin. If his money hadn’t provided a soft landing he would have been taken out long ago for the insults he wields. Well he can kiss the Mormon vote goodbye.
WELLLLL..I HATED TO MISS THE SHOW…HOWEVER…MY BACK SAID NO…SO TODAY I AM STAYING HOME…SO HERE I AM TO WHINE WITH MY UNCOOPERATIVE SPINE…I REALLY DON’T LIKE STAYING IN… ESPECIALLY WHEN I AWAKE TO THE LIKES OF BEN FERGUSON…SPINNING HIS HATE AGAINST THE PREZ..HE DROOLS WITH VENOM IN EVERYTHING HE SAYS….HE’S ACCUSING THE PREZ OF SLIDING IN HIS OWN SC JUDGE…WHILE BACKS ARE TURNED AND BRIBED WITH FUDGE…I WILL BE SO GLAD TO WAVE BYE TO BEN…WHEN THE FOUR WINDS BLOW AND HE’S LOST HIS ZEN!
Great poem Sue.
I just can’t with these people….
One of Iowa’s legislative bodies has passed a bill to allow children to handle handguns.
The state’s House of Representatives voted Tuesday to pass a bill that would permit children under age 14 to use “a pistol, revolver or the ammunition” while under direct parental supervision.
The bill — which was debated among other gun proposals and is now headed to the Iowa Senate — has been a polarizing issue in the state.
“What this bill does, the bill before us, allows for 1-year-olds, 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, 4-year-olds to operate handguns,” state Rep. Kirsten Running-Marquardt (D) said earlier this week, according to CBS-affiliate KCCI.
“We do not need a militia of toddlers.”
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2016/02/24/we-do-not-need-a-militia-of-toddlers-if-iowa-law-passes-children-can-carry-handguns/?postshare=281456404662232&tid=ss_tw
If the idiots in Iowa pass this atrocity I hope parents have the good sense not to put their children at risk. No guns in the house; no play dates in the homes of those who have guns. The idea of my three year old granddaughter handling a gun makes my blood freeze. This is more evidence of a growing insanity that’s destroying this country from the inside out.
They won’t have the good sense jg. They won’t.
GOING TO TRIP BACK AND LOOK AT WHAT I MISSED…PLEASE PRAY FOR MY SPINE..I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO NEXT WEEK…PLEASE KEEP ME IN YOUR PRAYERS ALL WEEKEND…WE MUST GET THINGS DONE AND GET OUT OF THE MOLD FUMES IN THIS HOUSE………………I HAVE A LENGTHY MOVING JOURNEY AHEAD!
Sue, are you getting any kind of treatment or therapy for your spine? I hate that you have to suffer so much.
THANKS JACKIE…BUT THERE IS NO CURE FOR THIS…YOU CAN LOOK IT UP..’.AS’- SPONDYLITIS……….HERE’S THE CRUX…IF I REST TOO MUCH AND DON’T EXERCISE…THE DISEASE WILL TAKE OVER ALL OF MY RIBS AND SHUT DOWN MY LUNGS…SO YOU HAVE TO KEEP WALKING…MY LOWER SECTIONS OF MY RIBS ARE COVERED AT THIS POINT. MY SPINE IS SORE BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO PACK AND MOVE THINGS AROUND…THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE BUT PAIN PILLS AND I AM VERY CAREFUL ABOUT TAKING THOSE. WHEN MY MOTHER DIED FROM THIS DISEASE SHE WAS HOOKED ON PAINKILLERS AND I DON’T WANT TO GO THERE. I ALSO USE PAIN PATCHES. THIS IS A HORRIFIC DISEASE AND IT IS VERY PAINFULL INDEED. I WILL BE GLAD TO GET TO MY APT. WHERE THERE IS LESS WORK…THEN I WILL IF GOD IS WILLING..GO BACK TO MY HOMELESS CHILDREN ON THE STREETS AND LOVE ON THEM…BLESS YOU FOR YOUR CONCERN.
I’m so sorry, Sue. Wish there were some kind of treatment besides pain killers.
Sending healing thoughts and prayers to you Sue {{{hugs}}}
THANK YOU EVERYONE..I AM TAKING ANTI-INFLAMMATORY PILLS BUT THEY DON’T DO A GOOD JOB. BLESS YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND PRAYERS…………..
I’m glad everything worked out for Chubs, Chips. It seems as though Chubs has a good work ethic and is not afraid of a hard day’s work, unlike some dogs that just lounge around the house all day looking in the mirror and expecting to be entertained. Chubs know what it’s like to get up at the crack of dawn and work, and not easy work, hard work. Chub probably worked his entire life, nothing was handed to him, he had to get out there and earn a living. He kept his mouth shut, didn’t sass his boss and did what he was told to do. I salute all the Chubs of the world.
 You’re one of a kind, Don!
So glad that Chubs got home ok; so glad he had you to take care of him as otherwise he might not have made it. You’re the best.
:) :) You make me smile…
me too, smilin’ :) :)
😆😆😆
I saw that interchange on CNN and thought it was really telling. The dear brother part was excruciating after West tried to talk down to someone who disagreed with him. I think he realized his error but too late.

Pentagon officials are cautiously optimistic that the terror group is entering its death throes, even as it advances on new territory.
Here’s hoping.
For all the fellow TOD animal lovers, I’ve been watching a great, heart warming series on Netflix called “Unlikely Animal Friends” it is so sweet, wonderful stories of animals who bond with other species in friendship and love.
THERE ARE BOOKS OUT LIKE THAT..HAVE BOUGHT A FEW AND THE PHOTOGRAPHY IS AMAZING!
Thanks,I’ll look for it.
I got a little email head’s up from GGail…she thought I should share:)

WOW…I SURE MISSED A GREAT SHOW LAST NIGHT…I SEE THE LINK SHOP HILLARY…I’LL VOTE FOR HER BUT THAT’S IT……….OTHER THAN THAT…THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER PRESIDENT BUT THE ENERGIZER!..BBL…NO HOUSE FAIRY HERE..IT MUST BE ME..STAGE LEFT!
Hi Sue. If you missed last night’s performance, as of this moment, it is still up. You can watch it now. But they are probably going to take it down soon. It will be broadcast Friday, February 26, 2025 at 9:00 PM
THANK YOU JER………….BLESS YOU!
Good Morning, Everyone :)
Around the bend and over the cliff.
What really gets me with these people is that they believe that they know the constitution better than the guy that actually taught Constitutional Law in college.
Good morning TOD! Chips, SOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy Chubs is back home. You did good…….REAL good!!!!!
Wanted to bring this over “for what it’s worth.” Others may have heard it too. I posted it at the end of a thread last night.
Caught just a few minutes of Rachel. Happened to be her interview with Michael Medved. He began by saying that he was against Trump before it was fashionable to do so. LOL. Anyway, to sum up: His theory is that Trump will NOT be the nominee……there will be a brokered convention. Interestingly enough, he didn’t mention which one of the others might or would end up with the nomination–or if he did, I was spaced out during that part. (Was texting with my ill daughter.) One of his main points is the down ticket and how concerned the Party is about those. hehehe! You built this, GOP. You built this house brick by brick. Now enjoy living in it.
Yes they built it, Cookie Roberts calling President Obama “exotic” early in his administration built it. Rep. Joe Wilson calling President Obama a liar at the State of the Union Address built it. A postcard that circulated with a picture of watermelons growing on the front lawn of the White House built it. And every other slight and debasement that this President and his family had to endure built it.
since the beginning, there’s been something fishy.
sounds right out of a Grisham novel.

Scalia’s Death Gets More Intriguing
by BooMan
Wed Feb 24th, 2016 at 11:53:33 PM EST
Nothing makes people more suspicious than secret orders and secret societies. I remember reading a lot about how both George W. Bush and John Kerry had belonged to Skull & Bones at Yale. That was supposed to be proof that the game was rigged, as the Bonesmen were going to control the White House either way the 2004 election turned out. Going back a little further, I remember some people freaking out about how many Reaganites belonged to the secretive Bohemian Grove club in San Francisco.
Now, I had never heard of The International Order of St. Hubertus, which was apparently established at the 1966 summer retreat of the Bohemian Grove. Actually, that’s not quite right. The society’s U.S. chapter was launched in 1966, but the organization itself was founded in 1695 by the Habsburg Count, Franz Anton von Sporck.
Members of the worldwide, male-only society wear dark-green robes emblazoned with a large cross and the motto “Deum Diligite Animalia Diligentes,” which means “Honoring God by honoring His creatures,” according to the group’s website. Some hold titles, such as Grand Master, Prior and Knight Grand Officer. The Order’s name is in honor of Hubert, the patron saint of hunters and fishermen.
I’m here to do my job,’ says senator who isn’t doing his job
02/25/16 08:00 AM—UPDATED 02/25/16 08:45 AM
By Steve Benen
……………………………….
The ridiculous posture leaves Grassley in the unenviable position of becoming a laughingstock for the ages. As of yesterday, however, the Republican senator said he just doesn’t care about history’s judgment.
“Do you think I spend my days wondering about how Chuck Grassley will go down in history?” he told reporters on Wednesday, according to The Des Moines Register.
“I don’t care if I ever go down in history,” added Grassley, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. “I’m here to do my job.”
Those six words – “I’m here to do my job” – may be the most interesting Grassley has uttered in quite some time, because it suggests the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee has grown confused about what his job actually is.
.
seems the beginning of a “Rev Wright” episode…i hope that she is prepared…because i’m sure the GOP along with the Sanders clan…will take a page from the BLM songbook
My 2 cents on the matter…it is not where you have been..it is where you are and the road you have traveled…but still she has to have a answer for the questions…
Exactly. Well-said, pf.
After the Benghazi interrogations, I’m confident Hillary Clinton will not only respond but devastate those who attempt a ‘Rev Wright’ attack on her.
Moreover, she has the privilege and good fortune to be able to view exactly how Pres-candidate Obama dealt with the mud-slinging - which I’m sure she will never forget the ultimate outcome.
Not only that view, but I’m sure she has him on speed-dial for any and all advice if she should ever need it and he would give it to her willingly.
BTW, check the TL of that twitter account - undoubtedly a troll. Only ? is who’s paying ….
Some witty soul should start a hashtag….SHAMING HIM!

Rubio endorser struggles to name Rubio accomplishments
By NICK GASS 02/24/16 12:01 PM EST
One of Marco Rubio’s newest congressional endorsers struggled to point to one specific thing he has seen over the course of the last year from the Florida senator that, as MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts asked, “demonstrates presidential character.” Not only that, but he also called some of the Rubio’s past actions “frustrating.”
At the end of his interview, freshman Rep. Cresent Hardy (R-Nev.) was asked the question about what he has seen from Rubio over the course of his last year in Congress. Hardy took office in January 2015, a little more than three months before Rubio announced his candidacy.
“On the Hill, I have not seen that. He’s been running for a presidential race most of this year,” Hardy said. “As far as his policies in the past, I know that he’s done some things that even have been a little frustrating for an individual like myself at times.”
Chips, so glad your Newbie and his family were reunited. Losing your pet is absolutely horrible, and I know those people suffered while he was gone. Good for you keeping up the search, and fortunate that the niece saw the notice. This is a wonderful ending to your struggle, in which you performed magnificently.
carolyn, Glad to see you here. Wanted you to know the link you shared for your pastor’s sermon did not work. However, I Googled the church and found it. First thing, the introduction/description about your church on the HOme page could SO easily be our church (UM). The part about taking the Bible seriously, but not literally-our senior pastor that passed away three years ago used that all the time and we just mentioned it Sunday night in our small group. :) Second, a local UM pastor and friend of ours preached from same scripture Sunday. It is on one of our local stations every week. We recorded it and used it Sunday night in our small group. It was mainly about how our (UM) General Conference is going to deal with same-sex marriage and homosexuality. Was a FANTASTIC message. Third, my husband and I listened to the sermon while we ate lunch yesterday. Husband was very upset at the beginning and even said he should “take off his robe” because it was too political and what he was saying was not true-voting rights and what’s happening with them was his main issue. You see, my husband is one of those that is CONVINCED that there is rampant voter fraud so he rationalizes that all these new laws are needed. He ALWAYS refers to what happened to Chicago YEARS and YEARS ago!!!!!!! I haven’t yet, but the next time this comes up, I am going to INSIST he bring me hard cold facts (numbers, stats, data) to prove without any doubt that voter fraud is rampant. Anyway, back to the sermon. Once your pastor got past that first part, my husband seemed to listen. We did get a phone call and had to pause the last 1:45 seconds and then after the call, he left so he did not hear those last couple minutes. :( Thanks for sharing.
I know there are a number of UM churches very like ours, in fact, some people who’ve moved from other cities who were UM have joined our church because the UM churches in OKC are not like this. That is why I’ve said that I feel Hillary letting her inner Methodist free in this campaign…..that is a compliment. Our pastor is a loving, compassionate, humorous person. He is always challenging us. Also, our Associate pastor is a young woman who pushes us all! The Far Right powers that be in OKC truly hate our pastor.
Hi, carolyn. How are you doing?
Hi57. I’m doing okay. Thanks for asking. Today is seven months since I lost my sweetheart. I’m fortunate with the wonderful friends I have around me, and my son and family are coming this weekend. One thing that helps is remembering how sick he was, and for how long, and that he was 84 years old. He was so ready to go. He was at peace and very tired of this world.
I am SO looking forward to seeing TODers this June! You all have been a tremendous support to me, as I have seen us be to other people. this is a wonderful place.
There is no way to fill that hole in your heart, but the love and care of others brings light and joy to your days. You were so blessed to have shared your life with such a wonderful man. He is truly at peace, and he knew and treasured the love you shared.
{{{{{{{carolyn}}}}}}} We are so blessed with our TOD family. You are loved, my friend.
Not joking …
Bob, it’s the State Dept. who isn’t releasing the emails. She has said that she has no objection. This is their vetting process, NOT a bad faith move on Hillary’s part.
The emails I’m referencing are very much in the ‘public domain,’ 57. I’m not referring to the few that remain classified, but the bulk of the emails.
To wit:
https://foia.state.gov/Search/Results.aspx?collection=Clinton_Email_January_29_Release
Ah! Thanks for the clarification, Bobfr. And yes, release them already. There was a post a week or so ago about what a great picture of Hillary you get from the emails.
Take it to the bank, as they say ….
Have a good day everyone … bbl …
Just sayin’
That should be ” Amercia”…. :)
Wowie
Je’refuse. You will not tempt me with cuddly teddy VP. No! Away with you! [averting my eyes] 🙁😣😝

Harvard University in the US is going to remove the word “master” from academic titles, after protests from students who claimed the title had echoes of slavery.
House masters, in charge of residential halls at the university, will become known as “faculty deans”.
Harvard Law School is also deciding whether to change its official seal, because of links to slavery.
US campuses have faced a series of protests over allegations of racism.
Harvard has not accepted that the use of “master” was a link to slavery, but it has responded to a campaign for a name change.
It will mean a change in job title for 24 members of staff - but will not affect other uses of “master”, such as a master’s level degree.
Student campaigners are also calling for a change in the official seal of Harvard Law School, with a sit-in being held this week.
http://www.bbc.com/news/education-35659685
Oh, please. “Master” means the best in your field.
A “masterpiece” was originally a piece of art or craft (like a clock) that was made to prove your skills to become “master”.
Totally agree. Some folks carry things too far. Morning TOD :-)
nonsense
<3
ty meta for this info…will be glad to tweet it
Thanks so much, pf.
Just called and left messages for both McConnell and Grassley. Surprised I got through as another time when I called Boehner I was asked for my zip code and due to not being his constituent they would not leave a message. Those were in the days of trying to get PPACA through. Guess I can call each week and leave a message. I do not think they jot down caller ID or anything.
Actually, it must have been something other than ACA cuz Boehner was not the majority house leader on that issue. There have been so many calls, emails etcetera that I forgot when and what issue the zip code involved, but know it was Boehner.
Thank you, OG.
Senate Republicans Lose Their Minds on a Supreme Court Seat
By THE EDITORIAL BOARD
FEB. 24, 2016
Following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia, Senate Republicans apparently believe they can profit by creating a political crisis that the nation has never seen before. On Tuesday, the leadership doubled down on its refusal to take any action on any nominee from President Obama to replace Justice Scalia.
Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the majority leader who seems to have lost touch with reality and the Constitution, accused Mr. Obama of plunging the nation into a “bitter and avoidable struggle” should he name anyone to the court.
Forget an up-or-down vote on the Senate floor. Top Republicans are pledging not to hold hearings or even to meet with a nominee.
