I LOVE TO SEE THIS AND WATCHED IT LAST NIGHT…AFTER ALL THE TRASHING THAT HAS BEEN DONE TO THIS PRESIDENT…ALL THE RACISTS ARE ON MY ‘BUCKET’ LIST!…WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND!
Sue, I left a message for you on the previous thread. And I found this website that might help in your search for a back brace? http://www.braceshop.com/specialty-products/latex-free-braces/latex-free-back-braces.htm
Thanks Ms Chips & NerdyW for your great offerings today.
Ms CC, I was so pleased to read about Chubs’ happy ending & DannyO’s reprieve! I sure hope today was one of those times when you were exploring the medical options re your feet. If we are signing up for a marathon any time this year, I want to know that I won’t have to carry you at any point along the trail.
The spooky thing is, VC, as soon as I started whinging about my foot, it started to feel better. But I 100% promise, if it starts acting up again I will get myself to a doctor!
Truth is I kinda knew ‘whinge’ felt real but was just not often used, yet I was so, so disinclined to check. :D:D Would you believe I was educated under the ‘British system’? Oh well, I don’t think *education* did anything to my natural tendency to be lazy take the path of least resistance. ;)
We are sisters, vc! ‘..natural tendency to be lazy and take the path of least resistance…” describes me to a T. :D That is why I’m here instead of grading the mountain of papers I should be tackling!
At the elementary & secondary levels papers usually get graded when they absolutely have to be! :D:D In my experience it’s at the post secondary level where I wonder if the profs EVER evaluate stuff in a timely (before the end of session) manner. Ticks me off BIG time when I want to hear or see how offspring is really doing! :(:D:D
I know, I always hated having to wait a long time before getting tests or assignments back myself. And I wanted comments! I hated getting a comment free paper back. My daughter teaches French at the University of Michigan and I know their department is very conscientious about making their grading fair and fast.
She started taking it for her language requirement in high school and found out she loved it. Because of her heavy schedule she hadn’t started it until her sophomore year. In her senior year she was able to skip French 3 and got French 4 in before graduation. When she went to college, she intended to become a college band director but loved French so much that she took a double major in Music Ed. and French. (It meant that she took 21 credit hours every semester and summer classes every summer). She spent a semester abroad in Tours, with a two week detour to Burkina Faso. However, you don’t get to graduate and immediately get hired at a college; you have to pay your dues teaching middle school and high school band. After her student teaching, she realized she didn’t really want to do the public school teaching first. Six months spent being a supply teacher in Reading (England) confirmed that opinion. She realized that what she really wanted to do was to teach at the college level and it didn’t have to be band. Oddly, neither one of us considered using her French major. She took the graduate record exam, just in case, while she considered various options for graduate study. A letter came from the French department of her undergrad school offering her a place in their French MA program. It included a stipend and a year in Tours with all school expenses paid by the university. We looked at each other and thought French! Of course! Why didn’t we think of that? She did the two year program and started applying for positions without much hope - French is not exactly a growth industry!. In the spring she applied and was interviewed for a one semester position at U of M.but didn’t get it. That fall, a week before school started, they called her back and asked if she could teach part-time, two classes for one semester. She’s been there ever since - this is her third year - and just loves it. I was blessed to be able to spend three weeks with her in Tours at the end of her year there and fell in love. We would both go back there in a heartbeat! So that it is a long story - aren’t you glad you asked?? :P
Yes, I’m glad I asked. :) I am interested and impressed. The paths are a bit different here but I should probably share her experience with my offspring, who is also a music major, with a little French thrown in. Of course, he hasn’t yet decided he wants to teach, but I do wonder what else he will find to do.
Universities are cutting back in many areas. Gwyneth was very lucky to have gotten this job so quickly. She was looking all over the country. At first she was going to go for her doctorate, but now she sees PhDs doing basically the same job she does. Her job is pretty secure, and pays enough for her to live on. Even the instructors, like her, are unionized so she has medical, dental, and vision insurance at a low cost and also a pension plan. Of course it’s easier for U of M to offer health care since they have a huge medical center. It’s intriguing when offspring choose a career path that doesn’t seem to promising (French, music), but sometimes when you get into the program there are lots of opportunities that aren’t obvious from the outside. Gwyneth could have gone toward translation, international business, government work, and probably other choices with her French. She just really likes to teach. I’m glad both my children were able to pursue their interests. My son is still struggling in his area, but that’s partly because he wants to stay in Detroit. If he moved to a bigger market I think he would be okay.
Happy Birthday GGail. Haven’t been on for a couple of days and won’t actually catchup until Sunday or Maybe Monday. Heading out shortly to see my oldest Son in Northern part of the state. It’s his 50th Saturday. The nursing home & I have been coordinating his BD party. So, see you all Monday. Love you all. Have a wonderful weekend.
Do you have a title or link? I learned about her years ago when I was finding women for young girls to emulate for a girl’s math/science fair I was helping to put on. I would love to see it.
And good to see you back here at TOD. You have been missed.
CHICAGO (CBS) — With state funding cut off due to the ongoing budget impasse, Chicago State University has announced all 900 employees, including the university president, are receiving layoff notices.
CSU President Thomas Calhoun Jr. said the university has reached a point where it can’t continue to function as it has since the school year began last fall, so layoff notices have been sent to all faculty, staff, and administrators.
………………………..
Chicago State and the other eight public universities in Illinois have not received any state funding for the past eight months, as Gov. Bruce Rauner and Illinois lawmakers have yet to agree on a budget for the current fiscal year. About 30 percent of the CSU’s funding comes from the state.
CSU did not say when the layoffs would take effect, but by law, the university’s employees must receive two months’ notice of any potential layoffs.
……………………………………………//
We haven’t had a budget in IL for the better part of a year. Rauner won’t negotiate with dem Congress unless they enact his awful RW agenda that has nothing to do with the budget. State universities are not getting funding, programs all over the state. If we don’t destroy public unions, become a right to work state- Rauner’s “pro business agenda” he is willing to burn the state down.
They even split their ticket. Durbin win in a landslide. But Rainer is very unpopular. But get this: he’s infiltrating local elections, putting up candidate s as Dems who call themselves progressive but are funded by Rauner. It’s a real problem.
Just finished watching the Tribute to Ray Charles. How sad to see this is the last one. We have been so blessed these last seven years, I’m not ready to move on.

And for the fools who say PBO did nothing for minorities - this will be the state of the country until another non white person becomes President. White privilege doesn’t see non white people.
That’s exactly it. Even when we think we see them, we don’t really. What I don’t understand, and it grows more perplexing as I get older, is why are so many people willing to to just throw away the lives of other people? Why is it that they are so blind to the benefits of having everyone participate in society on an equitable basis?
$$$ mary - in my part of the world too many are equally abusive. Pre 1970 single Moms had to give up their babes or depend on family - little other choice. No government support, no childcare, nothing. We voted for the government that changed this - yet today too many treat them as the worst people on the planet. Government also keeps cutting back & back on the support.
I was surprised my alternate life style daughter wasn’t a Bernie fan - she asked my was he really capable of achieving anything - cause it all sounded too good to be true.
Yes
Like I said, and we all know: they all wanna be PBO so bad!
MightyP!
At your service, m’dear! <3
Congratulations, MP! That photo is pure delight!
I missed this! Am so bummed :(

I don’t’ have cable tv and I can’t get PBS. Is there a place where I can see the whole evening online?
Hi folks!
Thanks Ms Chips & NerdyW for your great offerings today.

If we are signing up for a marathon any time this year, I want to know that I won’t have to carry you at any point along the trail.
BTW, CC, are you going to be around tomorrow? I have two questions to ask you, but am saving them til tomorrow when we are both awake…hopefully.
:-) I will indeed VC - I’ll be here in the morning and in and out all day.
Okay, I’ll make a morning appointment. :D
The spooky thing is, VC, as soon as I started whinging about my foot, it started to feel better. But I 100% promise, if it starts acting up again I will get myself to a doctor!
Or whinge daily. :D [Is whinge a word?]
Seriously, you should probably get it checked while it’s behaving.
I don’t want my dancing skills impaired - - so I will get it fixed.
:D :D You are a real dote.
Whinge is definitely a word, VC.
;) Maybe I’ve been just too lazy to add the ‘g’.
I didn’t learn to add the ‘g’ until I moved DownUnda!
I’ve heard it more from British people, but it definitely is a word and I think describes the action quite well!
Hi, Maryl; happy Saturday to you.

They would really rather burn the house down than allow those unionists and others to live in it. People voted for this guy???

Never forget the contents of these two tweets (posted one at a time so that they are dumped in spam):
They both should be RT’d 10s of 1000s of times a week from now until 8 Nov 2016.
Good night TOD ….
“…. so that they are NOT dumped into spam.”
And, they weren’t ….
Absolutely ….
now, good night
Just finished watching the Tribute to Ray Charles. How sad to see this is the last one. We have been so blessed these last seven years, I’m not ready to move on.
The end is near…..will Bernie & Co realize it or try to cause problems?
Whoa! Dude ain’t playin’! I really, really like this young man!
bleary-eyed and quiet, here I go out the side door, heading for bed
Too quiet! Never even heard ya leave. (Hope all is well with your mother.) Goodnight.

Something real to think about!
I voted for the bill because I’m a NRA supporting hack…..even if there was no AWB in the bill….smh
says it all
kinda sucks I was so down with Killer Mike back in ATL Dungeon Family days…..Outkast was 10 years ahead of the game when they tossed his ass to curb.
So he wanted to be disowned?
I was surprised my alternate life style daughter wasn’t a Bernie fan - she asked my was he really capable of achieving anything - cause it all sounded too good to be true.
I’m out….
Did anybody see any coverage of the President’s visit to JAX on national TV? I didn’t.
THERE WAS NONE AND THERE WAS NO COVERAGE OF HIS ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE STATE DEPT…THEY HAVE BEEN TRUMP…ING THE NEWS WITH THE HITLER WITH THE BAD HAIR!
Yes, I noticed that last part - Ugh!
Looks like Dannystix has some competition :-D
ICYMI, #NeverTrump is trending worldwide on twitter, and has about 140K tweets, so far. Wonder if an election can be won on social media.
Sounds good to me!
You have GOT to be kidding. There are no liberal media sources now, I think.
Goodnight, TODville, and all the ships at sea! Happy weekend to y’all!
Nite JOB! :-)
Needed something awesome to wash the GOP and MSNBC ick out of my head before I fall off to sleep. Enjoy!
Damn! I have friends who work there!
Hello Dudette
That year has flown!
and might I add - the energy of a 3 year old is something I shall never regain. Exhausted grandparents X 2
